There is “no way in hell” that Russia will suffer defeat in its conflict with Ukraine, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has said.

Musk, one of the world’s richest men, made the comment on Monday during a discussion about a Senate bill aimed at providing additional US aid to Kiev on X Spaces – part of his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter).

He was joined by a number of other people opposed to further funding for Ukraine, including Republican lawmakers Ron Johnson, JD Vance and Mike Lee, former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, and entrepreneur David Sacks.

”This spending doesn’t help Ukraine. Prolonging the war doesn’t help Ukraine,” the Tesla and SpaceX chief said, as quoted by Bloomberg.

The White House has condemned a report compiled by US special counsel Robert Hur, who investigated allegations that President Joe Biden mishandled classified documents. A top legal staffer said the prosecutor went beyond his mandate in describing Biden as having “diminished faculties in advancing age.”

The spokesman for the White House’s Office of the General Counsel, Ian Sams, went on the offensive against Hur’s report during a rare Friday press briefing. Though the report ultimately recommended no charges for Biden, Sams questioned why Hur discussed the president’s age at all.

“When the inevitable conclusion is that the facts and the evidence don’t support any charges, you’re left to wonder why this report spends time making gratuitous and inappropriate criticisms of the president,” he added.

Pilots at Network Aviation (NA) have voted down three attempts at a new Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. NA pilots are the worst paid in the Qantas group; at present, 70% of NA pilots are paid below award levels, according to the union. Qantas’ says they want a 50% pay rise, but that would only take them up to award levels.

After the last rejection, Qantas went to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) seeking a finding of ‘Intractable Bargaining‘, a last resort Industrial Relations tool to break the impasse of stalled negotiations. If successful, this would see the FWC settle the dispute. NA pilots voted Thursday to continue rolling strikes, and another two-day action planned for next week was announced by AFAP on Friday..

What should have been cause for celebration for Democrats quickly turned into horror as Hurr’s reasoning for not bringing charges spread across the internet. Hur noted Biden’s cooperation with investigators and the nature of the documents as reasons not to bring charges, but also noted Biden’s failing mental capabilities as a reason they would have difficulty convincing a jury that there was intent behind Biden’s removal of the documents, saying his defense would present him as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”
