10%

percent

We are often reminded that we use only 10 % of our mental potentials... People will liberally quote Einstein on this belief... But is it true, did Einstein play a trick on us or did he really say that? ...

My view for what it's worth is that Einstein might have been using 10 per cent of his mind to create his most important theories while we need about 200 per cent of our brain power to understand these... People are different.

The most baffling concept here that often the people peddling this ten per cent figure — a bit like the clubs peddling a fictitious 40 per cent reduction of profits due to the incoming implementation of responsible gambling — are some loopy believers in a joker called rhubarb — otherwise known as Ron Hubbard.

Yes the scientologists have highjacked the grand master of the relative universe, Albert Einstein himself, to promote their own wares. They love to align themselves with this genius whose work, really, very few people understand. And who would not like to rub shoulders with an Einstein or a Steve Jobs, as if we were part of their masterminded circle...

Only real scientists (and the nerds who create "The Big Bang Theory" comedy), who have worked the maths and the physics around quantum mechanics would have a full grasp of Einstein's complex work. But in the same vein as Einstein was good at promoting his own worth, the dianetics (sounds like a laxative, does it not?) people are good at selling the idea that we're not using all our brain power and that we should read their good book to use a bit more. Thus they can help us out of our miserable ratio, for a commitment to their little green men and some (usually lots of) money — preferably for life.

In fact, I believe (so it's not a real fact but I believe it is — so there) that dianetics was (is) a form of intelligent design before the words were fully combined by labelling machines to describe the next level of creationists.

If my understanding is correct and I might be wrong, the scientologists used special brain-washing techniques to "free" the "spirit" and the mind. They are not the only ones doing so. The catholics have used confession as a way to temporary dispel guilt (after having injected it since childhood like drugs in our our veins), while the technique of scientologic "conversion" can be used to eliminate the mind blocks and unnecessary inhibitors from guilt... "Conversion" is a way to transfer one's annoying inhibitors or sins onto someone else, without even mentioning any of them, except by sharing — in a particular way which I think I know —a space and time with that someone else, in a reciprocated meditative trance, in which the someone else will figuratively throw your annoying psychological nutty bits in the bin... A service you can render in return if you have climbed enough echelons in this church of mind-bending and money syphoning.

As if nothing can't be done on our own, of course (see N-R D or NR-D— Non-Reactive Defocusing), but there is an extra value here in the sharing of the moment with someone else. Sharing can be empowering by belonging, but bringing in mysticism into the equation tends to devalue the process, though. Sharing can actually distract from the body's own "independent" performance... In most (all) church, sharing is actually designed so we become dependent of the belonging while believing to be free... And with the idea of faith attached to it, the whole lot becomes an enlightened blancmange of confusion which, of course takes a ritualised lifetime to process by achieving twenty sumpthin' levels to the top, or in the case of catholics climb stairways to heaven's pearly gates... or become the pope.

While, of course, if you do process the crap in your own mind on your own it can take twenty minutes of your time a day should you be seriously hampered by mind blocks — or 0.5 seconds of swearing if you know how to link a dirty word with empowerment... This is the difference between being self-enlightened and that of following a faith or a cult — both of which are the same thing, except in the numbers of counted followers and also in its level of tax evasion secrecy. The brainwashing techniques from muslim to rhubarb are more or less the same, except in some indoctrinating techniques the carrot is bigger that the stick, or the reverse... For the muslims, for example, the stick of physical revengeful punishment is a whip, a tonne of stones or a decapitating sword, etc....

One of the drawback of "solving our mysticism" (eradicating it to become a full rabid atheist like me) on our own is that we do not belong to a supporting group to which we'd pledge to give our life in a suicide bombing gift — or belong to a structured arcane group that empowers us to believe we can bring in money into this church that works like a giant spiritual ponzi scheme or a tupperware selling party — called "soul healing" for quality control and training purposes...

The underlying trickery here is to reinforce that we are more than a mind and a body. The iffy spiritual element is added by faith like Santa Claus and his reindeer are added to presents during saturnalia festivities. If we believe we shall receive... Or be tested in our "resolve", notwithstanding that faith tends (is designed to) to take us away from our natural origins — we could not be evolved monkeys, could we? No... In most instances the bigots wants us to believe that our close genetic relation with the chimps is only a way for god to test our faith. So we don't believe in global warming because it's not written in the good books... In short, we don't believe in reality... We are secretly afraid of reality.

So, all of you the dianetics, the muslims, the buddhists, the catholics the abrahamists and the rest of the faithful gentle or dangerous loopies, it is not for me to stop you believing in afterlife, gods and other worlds, but it is for me to tell you to stop fucking up this planet.

And I used this word in a direct manner to let you know that I am angry. Especially angry at Tony Abbott for being such a petty little tony abbott. The science of global warming is quite relatively simple compared to Einstein's relativity. The signs are there to tell us that we, humans. are mucking up the place big time... It's up to us to observe, and if the observed changes we've made to this planet in the last 80 years don't frighten the pants off you, you're more nuts that I though you were....

Despite faith blinding your understandings, please, start using at least 2.5 percent of your mental potentials...

calamitous peril

A 1939 letter from Albert Einstein warning of the "calamitous peril" to Jews posed by the Nazis has been sold at auction for nearly $14,000 (£9,000).

The Nobel-winning physicist's letter to a New York businessman, Hyman Zinn, sold for double its estimate at auction in the US state of California.

In the typed letter, Einstein praises Zinn for his work in helping Jews flee persecution in Adolf Hitler's Germany.

Einstein himself fled Germany for the US when Hitler came to power in 1933.

"It must be a source of deep gratification to you to be making so important a contribution toward rescuing our persecuted fellow-Jews from their calamitous peril and leading them toward a better future," he wrote.

at brain central...

For those who still think that we're only using only 10 per cent of our mental potential, I have news. It's bollocks. Einstein was pulling our leg... We first need to define "mental potential"...

Our brain controls and processes an enormous amount of stuff... From storing information, managing information — incoming and from within — to inducing reactions to perceptions and organising actions from the processing of what has to be done in a particular situation. Furthermore, the brain has to process cognitive incoming information such as that coming through sight, control the skills of the hands and manage the natural instincts  at best within the confines of a socially-styled set of dictum.

In short, daily, we use an enormous of brain power, and it does not take much to stuff this up — such as with the use of legal and illegal behaviour-modifying substances we call drugs, even then we use far more than 10 per cent of our mental potential...

Most of our "mental potential" lies in our ability to be adventurous in uncertainty. What churches do, including scientology, is to channel this (our) uncertainty into structured rituals that suits the bulk of our comfort and habits. We are mostly creatures of habits. Very few people like to venture outside the known parameters of our own mind. Only pure thinkers, real artists and grand masterminds challenge these comforts, which can be very disturbing and distressing at times. It's quite scary to let out mind be on its own walking on a tight rope several hundred metres in the air. Thus churches provide a safety net and a balancing stick, then cultivate an environment where we never walk on a wire again. But we must pay for the service.

Many (all) of us use our mental potential way beyond the "10 per cent" ability. Einstein was being facetious to stir the imaginary possum. Even when we sleep our "mental" potential creates fatasms and dreams that sometimes — should we pay attention — could be at the core (or at the opposite) of our next imagined invention and greater understanding.

As Einstein rightly said "imagination is more important than knowledge" but as Gus has pointed out many times before (on this site too) "There is no imagination without knowledge" (memorised and catalogued cognition) ...

or she might poison you...

A second study also reported in MSNBC, reveals that harsh criticism can actually be more effective than positive feedback. According to new research appearing in the Journal of Consumer Research, experts may only respond to strong words (i.e. “It stinks!”), which suggests that negative words can bring about positive change. If you apply this lesson to Aunt Ginny’s special green bean casserole, you should tell her straight up that the casserole is revolting. It may be the only way that your complaints about the cream of mushroom soup and french fried onions will register. If she doesn’t throw the casserole at you, your feedback may inspire Aunt Ginny to update her recipe.

Or aunt Ginny might fill her mushroom soup with rat poison... Beware... Some people don't take kindly to being told their cooking stinks... See Abbott for example. His political recipes would be a disaster for this country... But he still plods on with his boots full of his own ego... Tell him so Mr Murdoch... Lace your poisonous papers with bile against Tonicchio for a change.......
