Comments
on Page 53

One such area of land that is presently under-utilised is
that located north of Oakdale Ave.

This space is presently in the form of an undeveloped reserve that is
located centrally in

the suburb and within the desired walking distance of households to
the south that are

presently not well served by local or   neighbourhood
parks.”

“Potential may exist for the disposal of a portion of this land, the
proceeds of which may in

 turn could be redirected towards
the development of the reserve with appropriate

 plantings and facilities such as
children’s play equipment. Such a project should

however only be undertaken following the establishment of a clear
council

policy on reserve rationalisation and extensive community consultation.”

Note: Under the Development
Plan
a "local" park is defined as an area up to

2.5 hectares with a
variety of recreational facilities suitable for a cross section of

the local community and available within 300 to 500 metres of
every home.

An Unsustainable Precedent

Any decision to sell Open Space to develop a
smaller park is unsustainable in the long term.

However each decision means that pressure to sell more open space
is created.

What else could be sold or privatised? What
has been mentioned in other reports and plans?
