how the system works... leadership from the nag's mouth...

leadership...

g2

Here, in his book, LEADERSHIP, (published 2002) Rudolph W Giuliani exposes the flaws of the system, without knowing it. If he could foresee what happened after this, would his choice be different, including switch to the other side? Al Gore? Or have these choices nothing to do with "ability", "policies", "understanding" and all to do with "populism", "connections" and "partisanship"?

This a turning moment in which the question is "which back am I going to scratch, to get the most out of?" Subconsciously, the choice is done from a single point of view and an apparent LACK OF KNOWLEDGE (often deliberate ignorance). Which is the most pressing urgency at the time? Economic fluff, war with whomever (as desired by both McCain and Bush) or global warming? Protect coal/oil/gas and destroy the planet eventually or bite the bullet and spend time with real scientists to study the incoming onslaught, and manage a better policy?

Most leaders, like Giuliani, hover in their little club of mates and will make choices not so much on what is best for the people but on which side their bread is buttered on. Now Rudolph, obviously an intelligent person, works for Donald Trump, though sometimes he appears to work against him.

But this contradiction is the important part of the Trump hamburger. Layers of hot and cold stuff, including salty beef and sweet buns. It's confused. But you have a bit of salad with a dressing full of preservatives. How can one make "leadership" out of this? Trump wants to get closer to the Russians and distrust — as he should — the US "intelligence agencies". They write bullshit most of the time. Presently through Russia-gate, the bullshit is also directed against him, so he has to know it's bullshit, but the other side is like a pack of dogs fighting for a bone. So Trump does other crazy things. Trump did not like John McCain, but now he's using John Bolton to do some dirty work with sabre rattling, and promises of war. This is not leadership. This is preparing for organised murder.

Giuliani got a break with 9/11... He shined and did the best possible job than one could. A donkey could have done as well. All one had to do was to point the finger or place a hoof in the right direction and the system would get in motion. The only thing that were badly handled was fire-people going inside the building and some fire-people telling the residents to stay inside the damage building. Bugger this. The situation was critical. It's everybody GET OUT. THERE WAS NO WAY THAT FIRE-PEOPLE could get to "where the fires were" and the buildings were not SAFE. Then the clean up had to handled with care... Too much toxicity in the air.

But Giuliani got away with looking busy like a fly in a jar while most people were doing THE job.

That's what some leaders do best: nothing much except massage the news and praise the courage of those who did the job and those who lost their life so bravely. Back to back-scratching...

to take the money or not...

One can understand the dilemma of leadership: be part of the conspiratorial trick or not? As well his office got some ANTHRAX received on a smeared video cassette sent from Tom Brokaw's office at NBC. And he had quite a few funerals to attend, after going to watch Yankee games in their 6 and 7th games of the "world series"... and he also had to start the New York Marathon as well... And he had to show support to Israel by traveling to Jerusalem in December with Mayor-elect Bloomberg to meet his friends Sharon and Olmert, after Israel had a few suicide bombings...

Here despite what "the Prince" said in his press release, Giuliani recognised that this, 9/11, was not about the Palestinian fight but about what the USA stood for. So he rejected the donation. From there they developed a snazzy campaign:

" The New York Miracle. Be a Part of It"

This is how one creates legends while not having all the facts in hand... From then on, Bush, his choice for the presidentur, went on to attack Afghanistan and invade Iraq under false pretences. We know that the Anthrax came from the USA, but this was used to demonise Saddam. We knew Saddam did not have WMDs, but the "intelligence agencies fabricated a story"...

trump ditched white house statement lauding mccain...

President Trump and recently-deceased five-term Republican Senator from Arizona John S. McCain had been at loggerheads long before the former's presidential inauguration, and it seems like the status-quo has not changed even after McCain's death.

According to the Washington Post, this Sunday Trump rejected a statement made by White House staffers which aimed to praise McCain as a “hero” and give him credit for his military service. The final statement was edited by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, chief of staff John Kelly and other White House aides over the weekend.

Trump declined to release the statement, saying that he preferred to tweet his condolences. The US president’s tweet following McCain’s death on Saturday, in which he did not offer many kind words for the Republican maverick. "My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain," Trump tweeted after reports confirmed that McCain had died. "Our hearts and prayers are with you!"

325 million opinionated vociferous individuals...

Yes John (last post from John McCain)...

“I owe it to America to be connected to America’s causes: liberty, equal justice, respect for the dignity of all people — brings happiness more sublime than life’s fleeting pleasures. Our identities and sense of worth are not circumscribed but are enlarged by serving good causes bigger than ourselves. Fellow Americans: that association has meant more to me than any other,”

...

“We are 325 million opinionated vociferous individuals. We argue and compete and sometimes even vilify each other in our raucous public debates. But we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement,” the letter continued. “If only we remember that and give each other the benefit of the presumption that we all love our country, we will get through these challenging times.”

...

“Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history. Farewell, fellow Americans. God bless you, and God bless America.

meanwhile, in new york...

Not only New York suffers from having its own Trump conservative support decadence and having its newspaper rivalry between up-market porkies against Trump and Murdoch's crass discreet support for Trump, it seems it suffers from a too polished wellness-fatigue...

But according to journalist and author Kevin Baker, New York City — that gleaming manifestation of capital — is not what it once was.

The city, he says, is dying a slow, undignified death.

Today tourist-lined streets are filled with boutique cupcake shops and Starbucks, 7-Elevens and condominiums rising from the rubble of older and more egalitarian housing; buildings with amenities like "adult tree-houses" and "ensuite parking".

For the first time in history, Baker says, New York City is boring.

Baker, who has lived there for decades, wrote an article for Harper's giving a devastating account of what he describes as the "wholesale destruction of the public city".

Affluence, he argues, has transformed the city into a kind of mausoleum, a monocultural "gated community", accessible only to the super rich.

"This is not a plea for going back to poverty of dysfunction", he says, "it's simply how, weirdly enough, affluence [has created] more of [it]".

"My neighbourhood, which has [become] increasingly affluent, [is] full of condos and co-ops that sell for over a million dollars nonetheless, about a third of the store frontage ... is empty and much of it has been for months or even years.

"It looks, in some ways, just about as poor as it was 40 years ago when I moved there. Maybe worse."

In the days of the leader of leaders, this may not have happened... In his chapter called "Underpromise and Overdeliver", Giuliani tells he had a tight rein on the city finances to avoid a blow-out in "unnecessary expenditures" to "maintain a frugal culture, even during flush times" even when "...there were occasions when it might have been to my political benefit to assume much higher revenues."

I don't know what the city budget is presently, but under mayor Giuliani, it was hovering around 40+ plus a lot of zeros behind to make it billions — and this including emptying the garbage... Since then it appears that the city has gone richer. It's also well known that too many tourists tend to destroy the place they come to see — or at least turn it into an amusement park.

hero rudy...

In Trump’s America the 17th anniversary of September 11 was under way, and a giant hurricane bearing down on the Carolina coast.

The Pussy-Grabber-in-Chief started the day with a couple of tweets that some thought not entirely in keeping with what was happening: “We have found nothing to show collusion between President Trump & Russia, absolutely zero, but every day we get more documentation showing collusion between the FBI & DOJ, the Hillary campaign, foreign spies & Russians, incredible.”

That one was straight out of Fox News rants and raves the night before.

Then there was: “Rudy Giuliani did a GREAT job as Mayor of NYC during the period of September 11th. His leadership, bravery and skill must never be forgotten. Rudy is a TRUE WARRIOR!”

Yes, Rudy is up there with the heroes who stopped United Airlines Flight 93 ploughing into the Congress or the White House and instead brought it down in a field in Pennsylvania.

When Trump and his “First” Lady arrived at the Pennsylvania memorial there was a mighty display of presidential pumped fists and thumbs-up for the astonished assembly.

There’s nothing quite like solemn anniversaries that can be turned into political bombast.

this policy is not the policy...

The US president’s personal lawyer said that the US sanctions on Iran could lead to the the overthrow of the Iranian government.

Speaking in his own capacity at a hotel in Times Square this Saturday, Giuliani noted, contrasting to the US administration official position, that the current implementation of the economic sanctions could lead to a “successful revolution” and change of the Iranian government, Reuters reported.

“I don't know when we're going to overthrow them,” he said at an Iran Uprising Summit held by the Organization of Iranian-American Communities which opposes Iran policies, “It could be in a few days, months, a couple of years. But it's going to happen.”

Giuliani also suggested that the US sanctions are proved effective, noting that “The [Iranian] currency is going to nothing… these are the kinds of conditions that lead to successful revolution,” echoing his own words to the Paris-based National Council of Resistance of Iran, where he said that Trump’s policy would “suffocate Iran's ayatollahs.”

The US State Department told Reuters that Giuliani does not speak for the administration on Iran. Earlier in August Trump's National Security Adviser John Bolton said that the US wants a massive change of Iran government’s behavior, noting, however that “regime change” in Iran was not the aim of the American policy.

More bullshit from the Yankers...:

still pushing crap...

missing the space = a hyperlink...

Rudy Giuliani blamed Twitter for his tweet calling Donald Trump a 'traitor'. Here's why he's wrong

On the surface it seems like a pretty standard attack on special counsel Robert Mueller for issuing an indictment just as Donald Trump was heading to the G20 summit in Buenos Aires.

But if you look closely, you'll see he's inadvertently enabled a hyperlink in 'G-20.In', which takes you to a site calling Donald J Trump a "traitor to our country".

Mr Giuliani had left out a space between sentences, inadvertently creating a hyperlink to an Indian-based website.

This was interpreted by Twitter as a hyperlink because it automatically recognises the letters after a full stop as representing an established top-level domain (TLD) name.

The hyperlink was quickly exploited by prankster and digital marketing director Jason Velazquez.

He told the New York Times that he spotted the link in Mr Giuliani's tweet, realised no-one owned the domain and paid $US5 to buy it.

Within 15 minutes, he had created a page that displayed a simple message "Donald J Trump is a traitor to our country".

"I wanted something … bold," Mr Velazquez told the Washington Post.

"Certainly, something that [Mr Giuliani] would not want to be linked from his tweet.".

unintended voicemail with intent...

Rudy Giuliani, personal lawyer to US President Donald Trump, has left two unintended voicemail messages on a reporter's phone, NBC News reports.

In the calls, Mr Giuliani reportedly spoke about needing money and attacked Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Mr Giuliani has not yet commented on the calls.

Lawmakers demanded documents from Mr Giuliani earlier this month as part of the presidential impeachment inquiry.

In the past he publicly admitted asking Ukrainian officials to investigate widely debunked corruption allegations against Mr Biden.

Three Democratic-led committees are currently investigating whether President Trump tried to pressure Ukraine's president into investigating Mr Biden in exchange for military aid.

What did Giuliani say?

NBC investigative reporter Rich Shapiro says he received two voicemails from Mr Giuliani in the space of a month.

He described them as the result of "what is known, in casual parlance, as a butt dial".

A "butt dial" happens when someone unknowingly calls one of their contacts by accidentally applying pressure to their phone's buttons while it is in their pocket.

Mr Shapiro missed the first call, mid-afternoon on 28 September, because he was at a child's birthday party. He had interviewed Mr Giuliani for an article the day before.

For the entirety of the ensuing three-minute voicemail, the president's personal lawyer reportedly attacked Mr Biden and his family.

"Biden has been been trading in on his public office since he was a senator," Mr Giuliani reportedly said to an unidentified man. In the conversation, he brought up the discredited allegations that Joe Biden, when vice-president, stopped an investigation in Ukraine to protect his son Hunter.

"He did the same thing in China. And he tried to do it in Kazakhstan and in Russia," Mr Giuliani reportedly added.

In the second voicemail, left on the night of 16 October, Mr Giuliani again recorded a conversation with an unknown man.

"We need a few hundred thousand," Mr Giuliani reportedly said at one point, in a conversation that Mr Shapiro says covered Bahrain and an unknown man named Robert.

Who is Rudy Giuliani?

Mr Giuliani was mayor of New York City from 1994 until 2001, and was in office during the 9/11 terror attacks.

He was one of the candidates for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, before withdrawing and backing eventual candidate John McCain.

Since April 2018, he has served as a lawyer for President Trump.

Mr Giuliani was present during Mr Trump's call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, which is the subject of the impeachment inquiry.

His own activities in Ukraine are also under investigation.

If you know how the game is played, passing the ball backwards is part of it. Hence these "unintended voicemails" are designed to gauge the loyalty of "trusted" contacts... Com'on! work with me... There is nothing new in the voicemails but the fact that they got exposed gives a clue as to what side some media people "are on". Rich Shapiro is now crossed off the list of "trusted"...

you dreamt it, love...

On Monday morning, I watched the news conferences held by Rudolph Giuliani on Sept. 11, 2001, when he was still the mayor of New York. Eighteen-plus years later, they look like dispatches from a remote and impossible universe, a place where dolphins roamed the earth and the sun shone pink.

But at the time, they couldn’t have been more real or reassuring. As impossible as it is to imagine, Rudolph Giuliani — the yowling Gollum of basic cable, President Trump’s Cain-raisingest enabler — was once one of the most steadying, reassuring men in the United States. If I hadn’t lived through it, I would have said I’d dreamed it. But you can watch the footage yourself: There he is, speaking directly and from the heart, calm as snow.

What drove me to review these news conferences was a simple question: What was Giuliani providing at a time of crisis that Donald Trump, facing a potential emergency of a similar magnitude, is not?

Part of it was sheer competence. Giuliani exuded a level of self-possession and authority that was impossible to fake. He rattled off the people he’d spoken to and what they were doing. He spoke in numbers: How many rescue workers were downtown, how many civilians had been evacuated to Liberty State Park, across the Hudson River. Over the following days he appeared frequently, providing updates, knowing that ubiquity is the key to stemming panic, and he spoke practically, about concrete things. Were the subways running? Partly. The kids? Staying in school.

Sorry love, dear Jennifer (you look like a young kid — please note that "love" is an endearing word used by Aussies to anyone who's buying/selling something, including compliments), we've run out of superlaxatives — er I mean superlatives — but you've dreamt that Guiliani was a superstar of solutions for everything...

Two things. The coronavirus is only a small cog in our general shit-feeling. Trump shoots from the hip and tells us, don't panic — a bit like a flustered Jack Jones, the butcher, in Dad's Army... Fear is fear. We should fear fear. The media is in overdrive about Trump incompetence on this virusthingy, but what's new? He could not make any difference to the infection, even if he was Jesus Christ... Trump delegated the gig to Pence, who should (and possibly will) delegate to a real doctor in charge. So there... Guiliani? well, read from top... We had similar panics during the HIV epidemic (probably from Africa), the SARs epidemic (from China) and we still don't fully catalogue the thousands of people who died in the USA from the ordinary global/spanish/piggy flu, last month.

Yes, we need to take precautions. The tourist industry (and globalisation) has been a breeding ground for diseases apart from being a major consumer of fossil fuels (creating global warming).

When was the last time you saw a friend who's just come back from "overseas" and who did not cough his/her lungs out, did not have a cold, the flu or something nasty lurking on his/her skin or in his/her pants? And who told you they bought a more expensive ticket because it was carbon neutral?

Imagine many old folks on luxury cruising ships becoming sick with Norovirus outbreaks, leading to prolonged vomiting and diarrhea. Already hampered in this department, the oldies need to know where the nearest pitstop is. Such outbreaks also happen during winter in crowded places such as schools, shopping centes, hospitals, prisons, etc... They are highly contagious and affect the stomach and large intestines — often referred to as a “stomach flu.

There is no treatment for norovirus infections:

Limit physical contact as much as possible.

Wash your hands often with hot water and soap, especially before eating and after using the bathroom.

Drink a lot of water — soft drinks will make you fat... Wine is allowed to drown your sorrows...

The same goes for the new whatzivirus... And sure, Trump isn't the brightest star under the earthly sun... Blame the Colleges that breed an inferior class of presidential candidates...

the commies are under his bed...

US President-elect Joe Biden has scoffed at the claims made by Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, in a bizarre – and sweaty media conference.,

Mr Giuliani, who appeared to struggle with the head in the small, crowded room, made far-fetched claims of a “communist” plot to rig voting and berated journalists in an astonishing rant.

“What I’m describing to you is a massive fraud,” he said, as he sweated so profusely that what appeared to be hair dye dripped down both his cheeks.

“It isn’t a little teeny one.”

Mr Giuliani’s appearance on Thursday (US time) came as he and Mr Trump make increasingly desperate allegations of election fraud and the outgoing president continues to maintain his legal team has “a very clear and viable path to victory” in the November election.

Among one of Mr Giuliani’s targets was the hand recount in Georgia, which he said would be illegitimate because officials were simply recounting fraudulent ballots. Just hours later, the official recount was finalised, leaving Mr Biden in front on a vote barely changed from the original count.

A bemused Mr Biden was scornful of the Trump campaign’s latest wild claims.

“He (Mr Trump) will go down as being one of the most irresponsible presidents in American history,” he said.

“It’s just out of the … it’s not even within the norm at all.”

A spokesman for Mr Biden’s campaign, Michael Gwin, also gave Mr Giuliani’s performance a solid thumbs down.

“Yet another Rudy Giuliani spectacle exposes, as his appearances always do, the absurdity of Donald Trump’s thoroughly discredited claims of voter fraud,” he said within hours of the bizarre announcement.

“Numerous courts, election officials from both parties, and even officials within Trump’s own administration, have all reaffirmed that claims of widespread voter fraud are categorically false.”

On Thursday, Mr Giuliani also claimed it was impossible for Mr Biden to have won key battleground states such as Michigan and Pennsylvania when he was initially trailing on election night.

But Mr Gwin said Trump campaign lawyers had admitted in their various court actions against the election result that there was no widespread fraught or errant voting.

“No matter how hard Trump and the flailing Giuliani try, they cannot overturn the will of the American people, who resoundingly picked Joe Biden to be the next President of the United States,” he said.

Mr Giuliani’s performance also drew criticism from Chris Krebs, who was fire by Mr Trump this week as head of the US Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Mr Krebs, who learned he had lost his job when he read a tweet from Mr Trump, responded through the same medium on Thursday.

“That press conference was the most dangerous 1hr 45 minutes of television in American history,” he said.

“And possibly the craziest. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re lucky.”

At the briefing, Mr Giuliani also performed an impersonation from what he said was his favourite law movie, My Cousin Vinny, to underscore his unfounded arguments about widespread cheating.

It was the latest bizarre outing from the former New York City mayor, who was once praised as a widely respected top federal prosecutor and for his handling of the devastating September 11 terror attacks on his city.
