The European Parliament on May 20, 2021 froze the ratification of the EU-China Investment Agreement, concluded in December by the European Commission after seven years of negotiations. The resolution was approved by an overwhelming majority with 599 votes for, 30 against and 58 abstentions [1]. 1] Formally, it is motivated as a retaliation to Chinese sanctions against members of the European Parliament, decided by Beijing after its officials were subjected to sanctions on the accusation, rejected by China, of human rights violations, especially of Uighurs. EU lawmakers argue that while the Chinese sanctions are illegal because they violate international law, the EU sanctions are legal because they are based on the UN’s defense of human rights.

What is the real motive behind the cloak of "defending human rights in China"? The strategy, launched and led by Washington, to recruit European countries into the coalition against Russia and China. The fundamental lever of this operation is the fact that 21 of the 27 countries of the European Union are members of NATO under US command. In the forefront against China, as well as against Russia, are the Eastern European countries, which are also members of NATO and the EU, and which, being more closely linked to Washington than to Brussels, increase the US influence on the EU’s foreign policy. This policy substantially follows that of the United States, especially through NATO. But not all allies are on the same level: Germany and France agree with the United States on the basis of mutual convenience, while Italy obeys and keeps quiet to the detriment of its own interests. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was able to declare after his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on May 21: "We will support the rules-based international order against the authoritarian push of countries like Russia and China.

China, which Nato has previously put on the back burner as a "threat" by focusing its energy on the strategy against Russia, is now being placed on the same level. This is happening in the wake of what is being done in Washington. Where the strategy against China is about to become law. In the United States Senate, the Strategic Competition with China Act, S. 1169, was introduced on April 15 on the bi-partisan initiative of Democrat Bob Menendez and Republican James Risch. The motivation for the legislation leaves no doubt that it is an all-out confrontation: "The People’s Republic of China is leveraging its political, diplomatic, economic, military, technological, and ideological power to become a strategic global competitor, almost on par, with the United States. The policies increasingly pursued by the PRC in these areas are contrary to the interests and values of the United States, its partners and much of the rest of the world." On this basis, the law stipulates political, economic, technological, media, military and other measures against China, aimed at striking and isolating it. A true declaration of war, not in the figurative sense.

Admiral Philip S. Davidson, who heads the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, has asked Congress for $27 billion to build a curtain of missile bases and satellite systems around China, including a constellation of space-based radar platforms. Meanwhile, US military pressure on China is increasing: missile units of the Seventh Fleet are cruising in the South China Sea, US Air Force strategic bombers have been deployed to the island of Guam in the western Pacific, while US Navy Triton drones have been moved closer to China from Guam to Japan. In the wake of the United States, NATO is also extending its strategy to East Asia and the Pacific [2], where - as Stoltenberg said - "we need to strengthen our military capabilities with close partners such as Australia and Japan".

So the European Parliament has not simply taken another step in the "sanctions war" against China. It has taken another step to bring Europe to war.

 Back from 10 Mar, 2020  The State Department’s special envoy for Syria has just admitted that the US aims to defend jihadist militants in Idlib against ‘Russian aggression,’ proving once again that the swamp in Foggy Bottom is alive and well.  

Russia and the Syrian government “are out to get a military victory in all of Syria,” Ambassador James Jeffrey told reporters on a conference call out of Brussels on Tuesday.

 

Our goal is to make it very difficult for them to do that by a variety of diplomatic, military, and other actions.

 

To illustrate these methods, Jeffrey cited the US threat to respond “in a very savage military way” against any chemical attacks, which he described as “a favorite tactic of the Syrian regime in making advances.”This is factually untrue, since the alleged attacks always happen after Syrian Army victories, as a pretext for US intervention. 

Jeffrey also noted that there are US and coalition troops in parts of Syria – officially there to fight Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), but in actuality “guarding” the oil fields. He tellingly described their presence as “a complication” for the Syrian government.

This won’t be the last time the imperialist media warns us that UFOs on the radar are a sign of a frightening gap in technology that leaves the US defenseless against Russia and China. They’ve been priming us for it for years...  

The New York Times has published an article on the contents of the hotly anticipated US government report on UFOs, as per usual based on statements of anonymous officials, and as per usual promoting narratives that are convenient for imperialists and war profiteers.

Together with one voice, the anonymous US officials and the “paper of record” that is supposed to scrutinize US officials assure us definitively that the mysterious aerial phenomena that have reportedly been witnessed by military personnel are certainly not any kind of secret US technology, but could totally be aliens and could definitely be a sign the Russians or Chinese have severely lapped America’s lagging military development.

“The report determines that a vast majority of more than 120 incidents over the past two decades did not originate from any American military or other advanced US government technology,” the NYT was reportedly told by the officials. “That determination would appear to eliminate the possibility that Navy pilots who reported seeing unexplained aircraft might have encountered programs the government meant to keep secret.”

Oh, well. If the US government has ruled out secret US government weaponry programs – hot damn, that’s good enough for me. Great journalism, you guys.

“Intelligence officials believe at least some of the aerial phenomena could have been experimental technology from a rival power, most likely Russia or China,” the Times reports. “One senior official briefed on the intelligence said without hesitation that US officials knew it was not American technology. He said there was worry among intelligence and military officials that China or Russia could be experimenting with hypersonic technology.”

“Russia has been investing heavily in hypersonics, believing the technology offers it the ability to evade American missile-defense technology,” the NYT adds. “China has also developed hypersonic weaponry, and included it in military parades. If the phenomena were Chinese or Russian aircraft, officials said, that would suggest the two powers’ hypersonic research had far outpaced American military development.”

The article goes on to describe how the US military has been “unsettled” by aircraft moving and behaving in ways known technologies cannot explain. The implication of scary foreign adversaries having “outpaced American military development” to such an extent is, of course, that the US military is going to require a far bigger budget, with far more intensive weapons development.

This would be the same New York Times that has consistently supported all of the US military’s devastating acts of mass murder around the world, by the way.

 

This won’t be the last time we hear the imperialist media warning us that UFOs may be a sign of a frightening gap in technology leaving the US defenseless against far more powerful foreign foes, and they’ve already been priming us for it. Republican Rachel Maddow, aka Tucker Carlson, has been shrilly pushing this narrative for weeks now, and demanding the US government do more to address the fact that, in alleged encounters with these aircraft, “our military was completely outmatched technologically by whatever these were.”

“UFOs, it turns out, are real, and whatever else they are, they’re a prima facie challenge to the United States military,” Carlson said on a segment last month. “They’re doing things the US military does not allow, and they’re doing it with impunity. And they appear to be focused on the US military.”

“Why isn’t the Pentagon more focused on this? It seems like a threat if there ever was one,” Carlson huffed.

In another segment. Carlson had on military intelligence veteran Luis Elizondo – a leading figure in the steadily intensifying new UFO narrative that kicked off in 2017 – claiming the aforementioned Senate report on the subject would reveal “an intelligence failure on the part of the US intel community on the level of 9/11.”

“If there’s a foreign adversary that can put a nuclear warhead within moments over Washington DC, OK, that’s a problem,” Elizondo told Carlson’s Fox News audience.

All this over some completely unverifiable testimony, and a few videos being confirmed by the Pentagon that can all be explained by easily identifiable mundane phenomena.

I can’t predict the future, but I won’t be at all surprised if we begin seeing this arms-race angle become the dominant aspect of this UFO story in the coming months and years. It would certainly fit the pattern of the US war machine and the mass media promoting completely unverifiable allegations about foreign governments to justify further cold-war escalations.

In the early 60s, President John F Kennedy falsely promoted the “missile gap” narrative, telling the public the Soviet Union had surpassed the United States in nuclear weapons when he knew full well the US nuclear arsenal had always far surpassed the USSR’s in number, quality, and deployment. Kennedy used this hawkish narrative to win an election and advance the largest peacetime expansion of US military power ever, leading directly to the events that gave rise to the Cuban Missile Crisis, which came far closer to ending our world than most of us like to think about.

I have no idea what if anything is going on with these UFO phenomena, but I do know the world-threatening new cold war the US is waging against Russia and China is insane. There is no valid reason our planet’s dominant power structures cannot, at the very least, cease brandishing armageddon weapons at each other and begin collaborating toward creating a better world.

Reject the propagandists and cold warriors, no matter how elaborate or bizarre their manipulations become. Keep an eye on these bastards, and help spread awareness of what they’re about.

On Sunday, May 23 [2021], another American convoy of 86 trucks and many armored personnel carriers drove from Iraqi Kurdistan Territory to the northeastern province of Syria, Hasakah. The US vehicles passed through the US-controlled illegal border crossing of al-Walid and headed towards the Harab al-Jir military base in the Al-Yaarubiyah region of northeastern SAR.  The movements of the Americans are reported by the Syrian state agency SANA, based on local sources of information.

These US trucks, heavily guarded, delivered logistical equipment and tanks for the upcoming next transport of petroleum products from Syria to Iraq. In doing so, the United States occupation troops, illegally on Syrian territory, continue to plunder Syria, removing hydrocarbons from the oil-rich northeastern provinces of the SAR, causing economic damage to the independent Syrian state and its inhabitants.

Previously, SANA has repeatedly reported to the world about trucks carrying wheat from Syria to Iraq through the Semalka crossing on the Syrian-Iraqi border. It was emphasized that such actions of the US troops and units of the “Syrian Democratic Forces” have been taking place for a long time against the background of a large-scale food crisis caused by the war in the Syrian Arab Republic. Even at a rough estimate, in recent months the Americans have moved thousands of trucks loaded with weapons and military equipment from Northern Iraq to Syria, and then returned them from Syria with stolen food and petroleum products!

Dozens of convoys with oil illegally extracted in the east of the Arab Republic have already been moved into Iraq by US Armed Forces in recent months. On March 23 alone, they transported a convoy of 300 (!) gasoline tankers.  The so-called “Syrian Democratic Forces“ (SDF) militants, supported by the United States, are stealing 140,000 barrels of crude oil every day from oil fields in the northeastern Syrian Al-Hasakah province, the governor of this province, Ghassan Halim Khalil, said in February, adding that this happens with the direct participation and support of the American occupation troops deployed in the region.

The Syrian news agency SANA has repeatedly provided the world community with exhaustive information about the export by the US military and the Syrian Democratic Forces militants under their control to northern Iraq from the occupied Syrian territory of dozens of trucks with Syrian wheat and petroleum products stolen from storage facilities.

The intensity of military cargo shipments, the movement of US-led coalition equipment in eastern Syria and outright pillaging of the Arab Republic has especially increased in recent weeks, clearly in an effort to create additional social and economic tensions in the country on the eve of presidential elections and thereby inspire additional social unrest in the country.

“The actions of the US command to build up its military presence in Zayefratye against the background of the extreme socio-economic situation created by the strangling US sanctions seriously damage the prospects for a political settlement,” said Rear Admiral Alexander Karpov, deputy head of the Russian military’s Reconciliation Center in Syria. He also expressed confidence that Syria is capable of coping with terrorist cells on its territory on its own, while the presence of military contingents of coalition countries in the country “is illegal and contradicts the norms of international law”.

Recall that Damascus authorities consider the US military presence in Syria as an illegal occupation, coupled with the looting of natural resources belonging to the Syrian people, of which Syria has already been officially notified by the UN Security Council several times.  In fact, General Raymond Thomas, head of the US Special Operations Command, also acknowledged the lack of legal grounds for the US to be in Syria, speaking at a security forum in Colorado in July 2017.

To disguise its criminal activities in Syria, Washington, through its underhanded media, regularly organizes a series of information attacks with fake accusations of official Damascus authorities and Russian representatives in that country for allegedly being responsible for the humanitarian crisis in that Arab country. In addition, fighters from the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group (banned in Russia), accompanied by the White Helmets, transported six containers, allegedly containing chlorine, to the Syrian Idlib province to prepare another provocation facilitated by the West.

The US occupation policy in Syria has been sharply condemned by numerous public figures in different countries. For instance, Irish peace activist Dr. Declan Hayes stressed that, after the failure of Washington’s covert operations for regime change in Damascus, the United States and Syria’s regional enemies are increasing economic pressure through sanctions, as well as stepping up the plundering of the country’s resources. The purpose of such actions is “to prevent the stabilization of the situation in Syria”. The West’s hostile plans for Syria are part of a broader geopolitical campaign by the US and its allies to destabilize Iran, Russia and China. Declan Hayes is a former lecturer at a British university, and during the last ten years of the war he traveled to Syria several times, where he collected evidence and documented the facts of the West’s covert terrorist aggression.

In a recent interview, Peter Ford, former UK ambassador to Syria, also condemned Western sanctions, calling them an “economic war”. He said these sanctions were as brutal as those imposed on Iraq before the Americans and British eventually went to war against that country in 2003.

Similar criminal actions by the American military in the US involving the theft of Syrian oil and grain had previously been carried out by militants of terrorist groups against which an international coalition had been formed.  Still, it is unclear why the United States is doing the same thing with impunity today, and why the UN stands idly aside, failing to stop such actions of foreign invaders in Syria.
