‘If Pelosi ever goes beyond complaining that Cheney is impugning her “patriotism” – while Cheney counters that he is only questioning her “judgment” – she might point out that it is the Bush administration that has “validated” al-Qaeda’s 9/11 strategy over the past five years.

Captured al-Qaeda documents reveal that Osama bin Laden’s principal goal in the 9/11attacks was to lure the United States into a clumsy counterattack in the Middle East that would alienate Muslims, help al-Qaeda recruit more jihadists and bog down the American military in a no-win war.

Though bin Laden was mistaken in believing that Afghanistan would become the central front, he was right in pretty much every other part of his plan. At the time of 9/11, al-Qaeda was a fringe player in the Muslim world, with its leaders driven into exile and holed up in the mountains of Afghanistan.’

Does Cheney 'Validate' al-Qaeda?

Presidential hopefuls have been forced to take a back seat, Michael Gawenda writes in Washington.

Pretty little angel eyes

Pretty little angel, pretty

Pretty little angel eyes.

ANN COULTER, dressed in black pants, black top and a sleeveless brown leather vest, her reddish blonde hair falling around her shoulders, a large silver cross on a silver chain around her neck, does not have angel eyes.

In fact the best-selling author's eyes are narrow and hawkish. In the vast basement ballroom of a Washington hotel where, for three days, more than 5000 conservative activists have assembled to restore their faith in themselves and connect with the spirit of Ronald Reagan, the incongruity of the song - a 1960s paean to teenage infatuation - was beside the point.
...
Conservatives know who the villains are - Clinton and Obama and Gore and the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi - but who their heroes are is far from clear. Except that George Bush is no longer one of them.

Gus: that unfunny viper does not get it... Sure a few facile quips about Hillary and Obama, but that's the problem... nothing substantial behind that, apart from stuffing up the world some more, and faster — with the same ratty right wing aggressive stuff.

Venom gives me the peptide!...

Talk about venom (see above) and GM crops crop up again... Someone after funding to keep his lab opened for research?:

Spider venom could help repel insects, researcher says

A University of Queensland researcher says spider venom could help genetically modify crops to make them resistant to insects.

Professor Glenn King says spider venom has components that specifically target insects without affecting other animals.

Professor King says the technology could be available within 10 years.

"These things are genetically-encoded peptides," he said.

"There's no reason why you couldn't engineer plants to make them.

"They're very, very safe - they have no activity against vertebrates.

"They're natural compounds as well. They're little tiny proteins so they don't hold any ecological consequences in terms of breakdown in the environment."

He says venom could also have commercial value as an insecticide.

Professor King says it is hoped that technology will be commercially available in about four years and it will have many uses.

"Everything from trying to control ecto-parasites on livestock, controlling ecto-parasites on companion animals like cats and dogs to controlling really nasty pests on crops like the cotton bowl worm to controlling, say, mosquitoes in the public health arena," he said.

gus: if this technology could get rid of dung-beetles in the media, I might not argue too much... But even though, what would I do if there were no more of the silly crap-pushers in the gutter press? As my mother used to say, "we need a bit of everything to make the world", and she meant good and bad, "as long as you make sure you are good in your heart..."

But she did not mean for humans to modify nature en mass with more venom, like fabricating GM crops — most likely to change the course of "natural" crops (many already bred selectively and grown in souped-up fields of super-phosphate) on a larger scale leading to the elimination of a lot of everything, including human ageing by dying quicker (see previous blog on GM crop research in Italy), just for profits.

Why not genetically-encoded peptides fields of spaghetti ready to be "cartonboxed" on site? A bit o' rain and serve instant noodles!

"They're little tiny proteins so they don't hold any ecological consequences in terms of breakdown in the environment." What a crock!!! Spiders do not exist in the same quantity as a ripened corn field! The crop-peptide could become more like a tide of ill-will, venom like to the environment, by the shear amount of it.

hum..., but that would be a good research grant... ten years. Do the world a favour: go, get the money, research for ten years and find it does not work...
