visitors...

With a series of Western leaders visiting Kiev in recent weeks, the Biden administration is considering dispatching a top-level official to the Ukrainian capital, Politico reported on Wednesday. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have traveled as far as Poland, but have not visited Ukraine.

Among the names being considered are Secretary of State Tony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Politico reported, citing “two US officials.” The officials said that regardless of who is chosen, the trip likely won’t be announced in advance for security reasons.

Blinken visited Kiev in January, and has toured Europe extensively since Russia launched its military offensive on Ukraine in February, in a bid to rally the US’ NATO allies against Moscow. Austin also met with NATO allies prior to the outbreak of conflict, and on two separate trips to Europe since. Austin was joined by Blinken on his most recent trip in late March, during which the Polish government petitioned the two US officials to support direct intervention in Ukraine.

In 1988, then-US Senator Joe Biden was dangerously close to death, as revealed in a new book about his wife "Jill: A Biography of the First Lady".

It turns out that Dr Jill Biden once had to turn away a priest who'd come to read her husband his last rites, the FLOTUS' biography reveals, as cited by The Daily Mail.

"Get out! Get out! My husband is not going to die!" she screamed at the medics as a priest was trying to perform the sacrament for Biden, a devout Catholic.

The incident occurred in 1988, when the president-to-be had an aneurysm that medics deemed to be life-threatening enough to offer him Commendation of the Dying. However, as soon as a furious Jill stormed into the room, the priest immediately left and Biden, 45 at the time, was taken to surgery.

He lived to be the oldest serving US president; he is currently 79 years old.

But at the time, Biden was dealing with the intense pressure of his first presidential campaign, and thought that severe headaches he had been suffering from were caused by the hectic campaigning routine. That campaign failed because Biden was accused of plagiarising his speeches.

Jill, meanwhile, also thought that her husband's headaches were connected to the aftermath of the failure. But it turned out that the future president had in fact "ignored his health for months", only to faint one day and then feel unable to even carry his briefcase. When he flew to Delaware, his brother insisted that he see a doctor, which is when Biden was rushed to Saint Francis Hospital in Wilmington.

During his surgery, it turned out that he had an aneurysm that could have killed him if he'd waited any longer. He had to have two surgeries and undergo a rigorous process of recovery.

Later, Biden himself admitted that he was on the brink of death in 1988, calling his fortunate surgery "a second chance in life".

flying nigh…..

YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan – The world’s largest production transport airplane, painted in Ukrainian blue and yellow, touched down at the home of U.S. Forces Japan in western Tokyo early Wednesday.

The chartered AN-124 Antonov, also called a Ruslan, carried oversized equipment for a new heat and power plant at Yokota from Dallas, according to an email April 7 from 374th Airlift Wing spokesman 1st Lt. Danny Rangel. The statement was embargoed until the plane touched down.

The Antonov dwarfed Air Force C-130J Super Hercules cargo planes and CV-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft as it taxied onto a ramp beside Yokota’s cargo terminal. It was the same spot where airmen on March 16 loaded a 38-ton shipment of Ukraine-bound nonlethal military supplies onto a C-17 Globemaster III.

The supplies, which included helmets and bulletproof vests donated by Japan, were sent on their way while reporters watched and listened to speeches by U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel, Japanese Vice Minister of Defense Oniki Makoto and Ukrainian Embassy deputy chief of mission Oleksandr Semeniuk.

The Ruslan is a heavy strategic military transport that can carry 150 tons of cargo, according to the Ukraine-based Antonov company’s website.

“It is the world’s largest production transport airplane,” the website states.

By comparison, the Air Force’s largest aircraft — the C-5 Galaxy — can carry 140 tons, according to the service’s official website.

Antonov did not immediately respond to emailed questions about the aircraft on Wednesday.

The AN-124 was the world’s second biggest cargo plane until recently, when Russian forces destroyed a larger AN-225 Mriya aircraft, also built by Antonov, according to the Ukrainian government.

Radio Free Europe posted a video April 3 showing damage to Hostomel Airport, north of the Ukrainian capital, including the battered hulk of the Mriya inside a hangar.
