we should be horrified, but are we?……...

Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche wrote: “Underneath this reality in which we live and have our being, another and altogether different reality lies concealed.

What does this mean at a democratic level?

It could mean (and it does) that the government of the people by the people is a surface distraction.

THIS IS WHAT we EXPOSED in the cartoon about the devious inauguration speech by George H W Bush (https://yourdemocracy.net/drupal/node/43837):

"For the first time in this century, for the first time in perhaps all history, man does not have to invent a system by which to live. We don't have to talk late into the night about which form of government is better. We don't have to wrest justice from the kings. We only have to summon it from within ourselves."

Gus added on the cartoon: "I will distract you with democracy — so you can be ruled by me"….

George H W Bush was a devious-devious-devious man. He ran the CIA — after having joined when about 18 (according to some people). The CIA is the most devious organisation in the world. It is the tool with which, the USA conquer the minds of other people and eliminate dissent in other countries. We know this. WE SHOULD BE HORRIFIED! But most people don’t care...

“This reality” (of the first part in Nietzsche’s quote) is a pleasant enough surface, while below, in the dirty waters of the pond (the swamp), the corrupt and deceitful state operates with the most nefarious intent. This is the concealed reality of your government at work, often presented to you as protecting you from  — enemies, diseases and poverty.

It is twisted. It buys favours from a few and tell lies that bubble along like swamp gas, and you believe that the little lights that burn it off are little fairies walking on water. Governments ARE NOT THE PEOPLE. THEY are dangerous institutions which have many information departments designed to make you believe in fairies… From statistics to media, spy shops, education and cultural endeavours, you shall believe in fairies.

Even the arts taught in design schools are part of the continued conformity to a limited plagiarised diversity while WE, the people, float on a reflection of abstracted beauty….

Beneath the water line, most of the operators steal, destroy and profit against the will of the people, like rats in sewers. At least the rats have natural standards. The nasty operators of the depth below won’t hesitate to destroy you if you don’t row your little boat for a buck. And they only “protect you” because they need you to pay for their massive armies designed to conquer the world…. You should be horrified but you won’t be.

Your little boat, gliding along the surface, is prettied with flowers and ribbons, and, reclining on the back seat, you only see vision of the tranquil skies, with rainbows to boot. All is well, as the only thing you have to do is row a little more to move forward and make another buck. Most of the other people are in similar boats, rowing where their democratic wishes fancy. What looks like a choice is a mirror.

From time to time your rowboat has a leak and you plug it with beliefs. You should know that what is below is suspect as the incoming water is black, dirty and full of germs… Beliefs are good to plug leaks coming from the concealed reality…. You should be horrified, but you believe that all is well….

On this little site, yourdemocracy.net, we have endeavoured to reveal the concealed reality, hidden like the hull of a ship below the “Plimsol line” as we refer to quite often… We are not the only people exposing this “concealed reality", yet we do it in our own way and we hope we manage, so you don’t place your hand in the water, and get your arm taken away by the sharks below...

What’s in it for us, here?  Mostly brickbats and torrid un-healable arguments with friends

What are opinions without facts? Religions…

What are opinions with facts? Relative knowledge…

Religions tend to manufacture fake facts to create “absolute” knowledge.

Biden is a Catholic…. God is the biggest fakery of all… Biden is a fake. This is a (true) sophism…

Tulsi Gabbard (D), a former US representative for Hawaii, argued that former US President Barack Obama – not President Joe Biden – is behind the federal effort to establish a Disinformation Governance Board (DGB).

Biden is just a front man," Gabbard said on Twitter Sunday. "Obama, April 21: social media censors 'don’t go far enough,' so the government needs to step in to do the job.[We remember Obama’s "truth" here]….

She then compared the planned DGB to George Orwell’s ‘Ministry of Truth,’ one of four ministries of the government of Oceania in “Nineteen Eighty-Four.”

Six days later, Homeland Security rolls out the 'Ministry of Truth' (aka Disinformation Governance Board),” Gabbard tweeted.

The awful reality is thus concealed by POWERFUL fakery. And the fakers are excellent in manufacturing the fakery. They will even make you believe that the true reality is a fake. They are good at this bullshit because they are FORCEFUL... THEY BULLY… THEY CAJOLE... THEY OWN THE ILLUSIONS CHANNELS — the media, the movies, even the cultural discussions...

We, the people, can live happily with fakery… Many people do and don’t care as long as the sausage is cooked to perfection. Perfection is often deceitful death…. Deceit is hidden in the ability/inability to make manipulated decisions that we end up making anyway WITHOUT CARE. The choice is between the Blue Pill and the Red Pill. Both are the same bullshit with a slightly different amount of placebo.

So what is left for us to enjoy life, without losing our integrity? And do we really need to understand anything if we are happy by not knowing?

Do we fight the monsters below with the hope of not rocking our boat? And are WE the monsters below in a reverse image of ourself for having played the game without becoming aware of the deceit in our own self, because we vote for the bastards below?

While we vote we fed the monsters in the swamp, though some of them live in the villas above our little pond.…

From Unz:

I suspect that many readers will have seen the opening monologue of the Tucker Carlson Tonight program of Thursday, April 28. For seventeen minutes Carlson took direct aim at the latest advance of the Biden administration and the managerial state in their incremental assumption of authoritarian power over not only over what Americans read or see, but how they think: the creation of a new agency within the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Disinformation Governance Board.

Here is the clip, and it’s a message that should send chills down the backs of every American who is at all concerned about what has happened and is happening to our country…and about those supposed guaranteed rights of speech under the Constitution.

PayPal has canceled Consortium News‘ account without any prior notice or due process and with virtually no explanation.

As Consortium News is today launching its Spring Fund Drive, it has lost one of its most important ways for its viewers and readers to show their support through donations.  Clicking on the yellow PayPal donate button on our home page now yields this message:

(see message)

PayPal has sent an email to CN that says:

“You can’t use PayPal anymore. … We noticed activity in your account that’s inconsistent with our User Agreement and we no longer offer you PayPal services. … Because of potential risk exposure, we’ve permanently limited your account. You’ll no longer be able to use the account for any transactions.”

The message says that “any money in your PayPal balance will be held for up to 180 days,” after which, “if applicable, we’ll email you with information on how to withdraw any remaining money.”

No Prior Notice or Explanation

There was no prior notice sent nor was Consortium News afforded any due process. A PayPal customer service agent confirmed in a telephone call on Sunday that the “back office” gave no specific reason for “permanently limiting” CN‘s account other than that an “investigation and review” of CN‘s “history found some potential risk associated with this account.”

She said the “potential risk” from CN is “not exactly specified by the back office.”  The agent said, “It has something to do with the history of this account.”  Asked whether any agency, government or private, or any individual had complained to PayPal about CN, the customer service agent replied, “I don’t see any existing case.”

The agent could not explain why Consortium News was given no notice or any due process, but promised to ask the “back office” to contact CN to explain.

Regarding the $9,348.14 balance in CN‘s PayPal account, the agent said that after a 180-day review PayPal would decide whether to return it. “If there was a violation,” she said “it is possible” the money could be kept as “damages” to PayPal.  Violations under the Restricted Activities of the User Agreement  include providing “false, inaccurate or misleading information” to PayPal, other PayPal customers “or third parties.”

Given the current political climate it is more than conceivable that PayPal is reacting to Consortium News’ coverage of the war in Ukraine, which is not in line with the dominant narrative that is being increasingly enforced. Last week PayPal also froze the account of the alternative news site MintPressNews.

PayPal was sued in California in January in a class action for similarly shutting down accounts.

ULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA – As the bloody conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, so does the online propaganda war between Russia and the West. A prime example of this is the White House directly briefing influencers on popular social media app TikTok about the war and how to cover it. As the crisis spirals out of control, Americans have turned to TikTok to view real time videos and analysis of the invasion. With the app estimated to have around 70 million U.S. users, the White House is keenly aware of its impact. “We recognize this is a critically important avenue in the way the American public is finding out about the latest … so we wanted to make sure you had the latest information from an authoritative source,” President Joe Biden’s director of digital strategy, Rob Flaherty, told 30 top TikTok influencers.

TikTok itself has taken steps to align itself with U.S. government policy, deleting more than 320,000 Russian accounts and removing at least 41,000 videos peddling misinformation about the war. In addition to this, it has placed warning labels marked “Russia state-controlled media” on 49 accounts linked to the Russian government. Like other big social media platforms, it has not done the same to Western state-owned outlets such as the BBC, RTÉ, or the CBC.

All this is a far cry from 2020, when President Donald Trump signed an order that would shut down TikTok within 45 days unless it was sold to an American buyer. The Chinese-owned platform, the U.S. government alleged, posed a severe national security threat to the United States. Although TikTok is a Chinese company, it is, ironically, completely blocked inside China, their domestic market being served by a sister app, Douyin, which functions in a similar way but is separated by the Great Firewall. Thus, there is no contact or overlap between the two. After Douyin’s success in China, its parent company ByteDance launched a global platform.

ByteDance first reached a deal to sell TikTok to Microsoft, then to Oracle and Walmart. Yet the new Biden administration, without explanation, quietly dropped the sale requirement indefinitely in early 2021, saying in a court filing that it had begun a review of security concerns cited by the Trump administration.

That decision left buyers and onlookers alike perplexed. Yet studying the backgrounds of dozens of key TikTok employees brought on since the 2020 scare suggests that, instead of destroying TikTok, perhaps the U.S. national security state has co-opted it instead.

High-placed NATO recruits

Since 2020, there has been a wave of former spooks, spies and mandarins appointed to influential positions within TikTok, particularly around content and policy – some of whom, on paper at least, appear unqualified for such roles.

For example, while simultaneously being the Content Policy Lead for TikTok Canada, Alexander Corbeil is also the vice president of the NATO Association of Canada, a NATO-funded organization chaired by former Canadian Minister of Defense David Collenette. In order to join TikTok, Corbeil left his job at the SecDev Foundation, a U.S. State Department-funded security think tank. Corbeil’s work focused on Middle Eastern security and in particular on the war in Syria and what NATO’s role should be.

Another NATO-linked new recruit is Ayse Koçak, a Global Product Policy manager at the company. Before joining TikTok last year, she spent three years at NATO. Like Corbeil, Koçak had special expertise in Middle Eastern politics, including a year’s tour in Iraq as the organization’s deputy senior civilian representative.

Foard Copeland, who works on TikTok’s trust and safety policy, is also an ex-NATO man. Copeland previously worked as a desk officer for NATO, as well as for the Department of Defense. Between 2011 and 2021, he also worked for U.S. contractor Development Alternatives Incorporated (DAI), spending much of that time in Afghanistan. DAI has long been accused of being a CIA front group, perhaps with some justification. In 2009, for example, DAI agent Alan Gross was arrested in Cuba and sentenced to 15 years in prison for spying, espionage, and his part in efforts to destabilize the government.

Perhaps the most worrying NATO alumnus, from a public perspective, is new Feature Policy Manager Greg Andersen. According to his own LinkedIn profile, until 2019, Andersen worked on “psychological operations” for NATO. This fact, according to MintPress contributor Lowkey, was removed after his tweet raising concerns about the relationship between big tech and the national security state went viral.

the information machine…..

Caitlin Johnstone: Everyone's anti-war until the propaganda starts

Opposing violence means standing up against the most sophisticated information machine that has ever existed

By Caitlin Johnstone, an independent journalist based in Melbourne, Australia. Her website is here and you can follow her on Twitter @caitoz

Nobody thinks of themselves as a warmonger, but then the spin machine gets going and before you know it they're spouting the slogans they've been programmed to spout and waving the flags they've been programmed to wave and consenting to whatever the imperial war machine wants in that moment.

Virtually everyone will tell you they love peace and hate war when asked; war is the very worst thing in the world, and no healthy person relishes the thought of it. But when the rubber meets the road and it's time to oppose war and push for peace, those who'd previously proclaimed themselves "anti-war" are on the other side screaming for more weapons to be poured into a proxy war that their government deliberately provoked.

This is because the theory of being anti-war is very different from the practice. In theory, people are just opposed to the idea of exploding other people for no good reason. In practice they're always hit with a very intense barrage of media messaging giving them what look like very good reasons why those people need exploding.

Being truly anti-war isn't easy. It doesn't look like what people picture in their imaginations. It looks like getting smashed with a deluge of information designed to manipulate and confuse and working through it while getting screamed at by those who've fallen for the brainwashing. It's not cute. It's not fun. It's not the feel-good flower power time that people intuit it is when they look at the part of themselves that seeks peace. It's standing up against the most sophisticated propaganda machine that has ever existed while being offered every reason not to.

When people think of themselves as "anti-war", they're usually imagining themselves as anti- another Iraq war, or anti- some theoretical Hitler-like president starting a war because he likes killing people. They're not picturing the reality of what being anti-war actually is in practice.

Because selling the war to the public is a built-in component of all war strategy, the war will always look necessary from the mainstream perspective, and it won't look like those other wars which we now know in retrospect were mistakes. It's always designed to look appealing. There's never not going to be atrocity propaganda. There's never not going to be reasons fed to you selling this military intervention as special and completely necessary. That will be the case every single time, because that's how modern wars are packaged and presented.

This is why you'll always see a number of self-described leftists and anti-imperialists cheering for the latest US war project. They are ideologically opposed to the idea of war in theory, but the way it actually shows up in practice is always different from what they pictured.

Our entire civilization is shaped by domestic propaganda, but the only time you ever hear that word in mainstream discourse is when it's used to discuss the comparatively almost nonexistent influence of Russian propaganda on our society. All the mainstream alarm ringing about Russian propaganda gives the impression that it comprises close to 100 percent of the total propaganda that westerners consume, when in reality it's a tiny fraction of one percent of the total propaganda that westerners consume. Instead, almost all of it comes from western sources.

Propaganda is the single most overlooked and underappreciated aspect of our society. It has far more influence over how the public thinks, acts and votes than any of our official mechanisms for doing so, yet it's barely discussed, it isn't taught in schools, and even the best political ideologies barely touch on it relative to their other areas of focus.

All the fretting about Russian propaganda from establishment narrative managers comes so close to giving away their secret: that they know it's possible to manipulate the way the public thinks, acts and votes using media. They just don't admit that they're the ones who are doing this.

It's actually the weirdest thing in the world that there's something that has been directly affecting our minds our entire lives, and which directly affects the way our entire society is organized, but we don't talk about it constantly. It should be at the front and center of our attention.

But of course that's the whole idea. Propaganda only works on those who don't know they're being propagandized. The US-centralized empire's ability to hide its propaganda machine is a foundational element of its brilliance.

Being truly anti-war is necessarily a commitment to finding out not just what's true about all the war narratives currently promulgated by the imperial war machine, but all the narratives you've been fed about the world since you were young. It's a commitment to truth that takes on an almost spiritual quality in the way it informs every aspect of your life when truly espoused.

It's important to research and learn new things about the world, but what's equally important and which doesn't get emphasized nearly enough is the practice of examining the beliefs you already hold about your society, your government, your nation and your world. Inquiring as to whether they're really true, and who might benefit from your believing them.

Don't make the error of assuming you'll be aware and informed enough to spot all the lies right away. You're dealing with the single most advanced and powerful propaganda machine that has ever existed, and you've been marinating in its effects your entire life. It takes some time. Even the most aware among us were indoctrinated into the mainstream worldview to some extent earlier in their lives, and to this day most of the information they get about the world has some of its roots and branches in parts of the propaganda matrix.

It takes work to see things clearly enough to form a really truth-based worldview. But unless you do this it's impossible to be truly anti-war, because you can't skillfully oppose something you don't understand. To fight the imperial war machine is to fight the imperial propaganda machine.

FREE JULIAN ASSANGE NOWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

and now mintpress….

Consortium News and MintPress news are independent media outlets that have challenged NATO’s narrative on the ongoing Ukraine crisis.

Paypal has frozen the accounts of Consortium news and MintPress news and may seize the funds of independent media voices in a chilling example of corporate-enforced censorship.

Consortium News, MintPress and various independent journalists have recently received notice that their Paypal accounts are frozen, and they are no longer allowed to use the platform. According to the notice, the funds contained within the accounts may be returned after 180 days.

But, according to Consortium News Editor in Chief Joe Lauria, who spoke to a Paypal employee, if Paypal determines that there was a violation, some or all of the $9,348.14 may be seized by Paypal as “damages.”

The process to determine if the funds will be returned is not known to the public and is entirely determined by Paypal itself rather than a judge or jury, according to Lauria, who spoke to Matt Taibbi’s TK News.

Consortium News has been critical of the mainstream narrative on Ukraine pushed by NATO and the United States. It has also staunchly defended WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, even having a dedicated section to the journalist’s legal proceedings. Paypal gave no indication of why it shuttered Consortium’s account.

The practice of using financial networks to censor outlets that publish undesirable information started in 2010, when Paypal, along with major credit card networks, banned WikiLeaks from its platform, cutting off a major source of funding from the then newly formed media outlet.

“We have moved into a whole new phase of very frightening control of speech in the United States that I thought I’d never see to be honest with you,” Lauria told Sputnik News’ Critical Hour. “I thought it might happen but I thought I’d never see it [in my lifetime].”

Paypal is facing three lawsuits from individuals in California whose accounts have been frozen, but Lauria fears that even if Paypal loses those cases, it may not be enough.

“I don’t want to equate America with Nazi Germany but the Nazis justified a lot of their crimes with laws, racial laws for an example. So you could make up a law to allow Paypal to do this,” Lauria warns. “[They could] start making laws to justify criminal behavior, then it is no longer criminal.”

Lauria told Critical Hour he believes Paypal is basing its ban of Consortium News on the service agreement clause that prevents providing “false, inaccurate or misleading information” and thinks that the outlet’s coverage of the Ukraine crisis as its basis. However, he contends that the outlet’s coverage is accurate and that “one could say that [it is spreading misinformation] about the corporate media of the world.”

MintPress founder and executive director Mnar Adley asserts that the outlets are being censored for telling the truth, not for spreading misinformation. “We name the names, we break through the propaganda, we show the profiteers,” Adley told Taibbi. “There’s so few of us left that do that, and I think that’s why we’ve become a target.”

Mint Press recently published two articles in particular that they believe made them a target to corporate censors: a piece on how TikTok is hiring an alarming number of former NATO agents and an article about more than 150 Western public relations firms who are working with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

The actions come just days after the Biden administration announced a new misinformation board at the Department of Homeland Security. That decision has led to significant criticism from privacy advocacy groups and Republicans, with some calling it Biden’s “Ministry of Truth,” a reference to George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984.

Those with opinions that contradict the mainstream view have repeatedly come under attack. In early 2022, supporters of the Canadian trucker rally called “The Freedom Convoy” had their bank accounts frozen after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked emergency powers to combat the protest. Even some of those who simply donated to the rally had their bank accounts frozen.

Furthermore, after the onset of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, RT and Sputnik News were banned in Europe, with RT America shuttering production at its Washington, DC, hub after the station was taken off cable networks across the US.

But now, it seems, government censors have moved past state-sponsored media and protest groups and have begun working on shutting down independent dissenting voices by attacking their wallets.

For now, Consortium is only taking donations through credit cards and checks. MintPress is also accepting credit cards and checks as well as Bitcoin. Cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin have eluded seizures from authorities before: the Freedom Convoy received over 20.7 Bitcoins (worth over $782,000) that Canadian authorities have been unable to capture.

retrieved funding…….

PayPal has reversed its decision to withhold Consortium News‘ funds after a backlash from social media, news outlets and CN donors.

PayPal sent Consortium News an email on Tuesday night saying: “Your PayPal funds are now eligible for withdrawal.” CN immediately withdrew the funds.  PayPal gave no reasons for its reversal, as it had given no reasons for its initial action. The account remains shut down, though it appears no longer permanently, as PayPal is asking CN to take steps to restore it without saying what those steps are.

PayPal initially said it had slapped a “permanent limitation” on Consortium News, adding explicitly: “You can’t use PayPal anymore. … We noticed activity in your account that’s inconsistent with our User Agreement and we no longer offer you PayPal services. … Because of potential risk exposure, we’ve permanently limited your account. You’ll no longer be able to use the account for any transactions.”

Among “restricted activities” in the User Agreement is a ban on providing “false, inaccurate or misleading information” to PayPal, other PayPal customers “or third parties.” Given the political climate it is reasonable to conclude that PayPal was reacting to Consortium News’ coverage of the war in Ukraine, which is not in line with the dominant narrative that is being increasingly enforced. If true, PayPal was allegedly seeking to limit Consortium News’ free speech by depriving it of one of its main vehicles for funding.

A PayPal customer service agent had told CN that its funds could be kept for six months until a determination was made about what to do with them. “If there was a violation .. it is possible” CN‘s balance of $9,348.14 could be kept as “damages” to PayPal. That would mean awarding itself damages in a completely secret process.

PayPal apparently has also lifted the “permanent limitation” on CN‘s account. According to its User Agreement, PayPal says there are no steps that can be taken to reverse the permanent ban.......,
