Okay. I am biased. I don’t take both side and don’t blame them equally.  It’s in my nature not to be a fence-sitter. Most journalists are fence sitters. It’s called objectivity. it’s part of the craft of accepting that the dog crossed in front of the bus and of not knowing if the bus driver reacted soon enough. It’s reporting a flipping grey area. It’s crap. THERE IS NEVER (rarely) TWO SIDES TO A STORY EXCEPT FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO HIDE THE INCONVENIENT TRUTH — even with good intentions. Especially good intentions.....

 

People can’t believe that if the US does something naughty the US did not mean to do it without good intentions. Sorry: too many negatives here and I lost the plot… 

 

Good intentions are good — EXCEPT THEY OFTEN HAVE BAD RESULTS because ONE good intention amongst a good pushy lot hides a Trojan horse of a million bad intentions, like anti-personal landmines. We’re sneaky because we can use a daft way of obtaining the car keys by deceit. "Yes dad, we will fill up the tank with our pocket money…”. No we won’t and dad knows. We did promise the same caper last week…

 

It is in the nature of being primed since childhood to believe in redemption. We are the good side. The other side isn’t, but in order to show I’m a good samaritan, and that I’m impartial and objective, I will go half way and sit on a (the) fence. I hurts. Sorry, Gus won’t. I’ve seen too many American “good intentions” go to shit and the US Empire is the main sponsor of shit. When one digs below the fields of poppies, one finds that the bad intentions were there from the beginning. THE US EMPIRE WANTS TO CONQUER THE WORLD. A bite at a time. Or a bit more.

 

Let’s stop and ask is this a good or a bad intent? In the mind of the conqueror it is a good intent to teach pagans the word of the good lord as demanded by the Catholic bible. The bible was invented by the Catholics in the third century AD, even before the Jews were happy with their version of godly events by the 10th century AD or so. Meanwhile the other Abrahamic idiots decided on the Koran by the sixth century AD. 

 

Since then some unholy alliances have been made to conquer the world one way or the other — because it’s a big world, with the non-Abrahamic Chinese and other primitive people who may resist the good word. We know this and we fight for supremacy. There were the English, the Spanish, the Portuguese, the French and the Germans plundering the planet, under the same Christian cross… while the Turks were doing it for the other guy. Now, The US Anglo/Saxons have the biggest hardware to achieve this uncouth plunder with the biggest amount of deceit in their intent. But the ordinary subjects of the Empire do not subscribe to this concept of deceit. We believe we are honest and beautiful. Beauty is important in defining our state of mind. How can we have good intentions if we look ugly?… We only accept the fact that we are superior and exceptional — and can’t do anything wrong because “god bless America” is beautiful. It’s in the DNA. No it’s not. It’s in the system of self-deception designed to ignore the possible guilt of stealing some other people’s goodies with the assumption of protecting them with good intentions, blowing up their islands to test the defences of our good intentions of the future, glorifying our glory and/or “finder’s keepers” with improving the thatch huts with skyscrapers… It’s called progress and exceptionalism, in which the spirit of invention itself is patented.

 

So what is the premise?

 

Putin invades Ukraine. He must be a bad man. We knew that because beyond the Russophobia that we have cultivated since 1917 in various intensities — with some exception when we needed them Ruskies to win WW2 — we now have Putinophobia. It’s bigger than Ben Hur in Hollywood’s Top Gun Lunatic. Even FIFA is up in arms and promises PUNISHMENT for an entire stadium of Turks singing “Vladimir Putin la-la-la-la” when their losing teams were playing an unpleasant Ukrainian outfit. According to FIFA we can chant “Death to Putin” but we’re not allowed to glorify this little guy who at his grand old age of 70 looks not one year older than 49 and would floor a 20 year-old beef-burger heavyweight from Freedomland, in an intellectual and physical contest. Please, tell us what’s wrong with you, FIFA (F..k It F..k chinA) boffins who think that presenting your arse to a CIA f..king convention is de rigeur, in order to get finance? 

 

So the Western thinking is that Putin should not have done what he did. He should have let little shit Zelenskyy ransacked the Donbass at his pleasure — and that of his good intended backers, the US Empire and its EU lackeys. Say a couple of hundred thousand people would have been killed in a flash, but what’s a country’s integrity worth when you don’t have any integrity. People are expandable. The US Empire has shown this time and time again, while oil and territory surfaces are “essential”. 

 

Putin should not have demanded that NATO be an honest outfit. This demand was uncouth. NATO made some solid promises and flaunted these within a few years, under the auspices of the US Empire, but really you cannot expect the USA and NATO to being honest, do you? One cannot conquer the world honestly.

 

So demanding that Ukraine not join NATO is outrageous isn’t it? Even if NATO had promised not to move one inch east, one cannot expect a handshake to be a handshake with those Russians.

 

This is competition: may the best win and the worst loose. We know who is the worse and there is no need to play. The US Empire wins because we say so. We morally are 120 per cent committed to Jesus and we fine the Hamish for treating their horses humanely.

 

Meanwhile, beauty comes to rest on the cover of Time, time and time again. This time is to show us that Ukraine is beautiful. It is designed by the “independent CIA” PR department.

Is Russia Expanding Its Goals in Ukraine?

On July 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia’s war aims had been altered and that Russia might have to push further west. "Now the geography is different," he said, "it’s far from being just the DPR and LPR [Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics], it’s also "Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions and a number of other territories."

Is Russia expanding its war goals? Are Lavrov’s comments "confessing dreams to grab more Ukrainian land," as Ukraine’s foreign minister said?

Western commentators confidently declare that Lavrov’s comments reveal war aims larger than those declared at the start of the war. Reuters’ headline announces that "Russia declares expanded war goals," and The New York Times’ headline declares that "Russia Signals That It May Want a Bigger Chunk of Ukraine." That’s not surprising, though, the Times continues, because "Western officials have always scoffed at Moscow’s claims that its invasion is anything less than an act of expansion."

Their interpretations display a confidence that ignores that they do not know what is going on in Putin’s mind. One reasonable component of interpreting Lavrov’s and Putin’s words would be to listen to what they have actually said.

Though the Times repeats the accepted Western accusation that Putin has ambitions to expand Russia and recreate the Soviet Union, there is no evidence, John Mearsheimer, has argued to support that accusation. 

Though western commentators often quote Putin’s 2005 line that "Whoever does not miss the Soviet Union has no heart," they frequently amputate it from the line that follows: "Whoever wants it back has no brain."

Though we cannot know Putin’s thoughts, we might at least consider and analyze his words. And he seems never to have expressed a goal of conquering or absorbing Ukraine. "There is no evidence in the public record," Mearsheimer argues, "that Putin was contemplating, much less intending to put an end to Ukraine as an independent state and make it part of greater Russia when he sent his troops into Ukraine on February 24th." 

Instead, when Putin announced Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Mearshemeir reminds, he said, "It is not our plan to occupy Ukrainian territory." Then, seemingly articulating his goals, he added, "Russia cannot feel safe, develop, and exist while facing a permanent threat from the territory of today’s Ukraine."

Putin listed a number of goals at the start of the invasion, including the protection of ethnic Russians in the Donbas. The primary goal that he demanded repeatedly was that Ukraine neither became a member of NATO nor a base for NATO "weapons systems that threaten us in close vicinity to Russian territory.”

The military focus on the Donbas region was sufficient to keep NATO from Russia’s border and to keep weapons out of the vicinity from which they could threaten Russian territory. But that changed when the US sent Ukraine long range High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) that carry missiles with a range of 50 miles and have the capacity to strike Russian territory. 

Western reports of Lavrov’s July 20 announcement omit his crucial line that "If Ukraine receives long-range weapons from Western countries, then the geographical tasks of the special operation of the Russian troops will change." Lavrov did not say there was a change or expansion in Russia’s goals: he said the same task remains: "The President said very clearly, as you quoted him – denazification, demilitarization in the sense that there are no threats to our security, military threats from the territory of Ukraine , this task remains." 

The task is the same. The geography has changed because, with the US insertion of long range HIMARS into Ukrainian territory, the Donbas is no longer wide enough to ensure that there are no "weapons systems that threaten us in close vicinity to Russian territory.”

Lavrov’s message is not new. In early June, Lavrov warned that "the longer the range of weapons you supply, the farther away the line from where [Ukraine] could threaten the Russian Federation will be pushed." Lavrov’s July message reiterated the same point. Russia’s war aims may have to extent west "Because we cannot allow the part of Ukraine that Zelensky will control or whoever replaces him to have weapons that will pose a direct threat to our territory. . . ."

The US has not only inserted those weapons into Ukraine. According to the same New York Times article that says Russia has expanded its goals and wants a bigger chunk of Ukraine, "American military officials said Wednesday that they planned to send four more of the M142 HIMARS multiple-rocket launch vehicles, as well as more of the guided rockets they fire and more guided artillery ammunition."

Ukrainian officials have also suggested that those US supplied HIMARS will be used against targets in Crimea. Vadym Skibitskyi, representative of the Chief Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said on July 16 that both Crimea and Russia’s Black Sea Fleet are targets.

The huge majority of Russians and Crimeans see Crimea as Russian territory. No Russian government could tolerate an attack on Crimea or the loss of Crimea. An attack on Crimea would be seen by Putin – or by any Russian administration – as an attack on Russia. Sending Ukraine HIMARS that can reach Russia and Ukraine’s statement that they can be used to strike Crimea mean that the geography has changed and that the line from where Ukraine could threaten Russia might be moved further west. 

Former president and current Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on July 17 that if Ukraine attacks Crimea, the Ukrainian leadership "will be faced with a doomsday, very quick and tough, immediately."

Though Western commentators have insisted that Lavrov’s comments signal a change and expansion of Russia’s goals in Ukraine, it is impossible to know Putin’s thoughts. Putin’s and Lavrov’s words suggest another possible interpretation. The goal has not changed: only the geography for accomplishing the goal has changed. And that geography has been changed by the insertion by the US of long range HIMARS rocket systems into Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelensky calls for evacuation of eastern Donetsk region

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday evening called on the population to evacuate the Donetsk region in the east of the country, whose towns are the target of bombardment by Russian forces, in a video address.

"A government decision has been taken on the mandatory evacuation of the Donetsk region," the Ukrainian president said. "Please evacuate," he added. "At this stage of the war, terror is Russia's main weapon."

More than fifty members of Ukrainian forces who defended the Azovstal factory in Mariupol until the surrender to the Russian army were detained in this prison, hit by missile fire whose origin is unclear. Zelensky's elite battalion destroyed – Russia

 

Dozens of neo-Nazis have been eliminated over the last two days, including fighters from the Kraken formation, the military said. 

Russia’s armed forces destroyed an ‘elite assault battalion’ of the Ukrainian president and dozens of fighters from the notorious Kraken neo-Nazi formation, Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.

Providing an update on the progress of Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine, Konashenkov said that on July 28, at the Krasnoarmeysk railway station in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), the Russian military conducted a direct strike “with a high-precision air-based weapon” on a train transporting “an elite assault battalion of the 1st Separate Brigade of the President of Ukraine.”

“More than 140 nationalists were killed on the spot. About 250 more militants received injuries of varying severity. All military equipment that was in the echelon was disabled,” Konashenkov stated.

The next day, in the area of Bogodukhov in Kharkov Region, Iskander missiles hit the hangars of a meat processing plant where the Kraken nationalist formation had set up a temporary base, according to the military spokesman. “More than 30 Nazis and 10 units of military equipment were destroyed.”

Kraken calls itself a special reconnaissance and sabotage unit under the Ministry of Defense, operating separately from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Moscow has accused the battalion of committing several war crimes since the beginning of the conflict.

 

Also on July 29, Russian forces destroyed 30 Ukrainian servicemen, a warehouse with rockets for Grad combat vehicles, and military equipment in the settlement of Yasnobrodovka in the DPR. In the area of Artemovsk, according to Konashenkov, Ukrainian losses amounted to 50 servicemen and eight units of military equipment.

“In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the following have been destroyed: 261 aircraft, 145 helicopters, 1,644 unmanned aerial vehicles, 361 anti-aircraft missile systems, 4,190 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 772 combat vehicles of multiple launch rocket systems, 3,217 field artillery guns and mortars, as well as 4,573 units of special military vehicles,” the general said.

The Russian Defense Ministry does not provide regular updates on the numbers of Ukrainian or Russian losses. On July 4, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced that over the previous two weeks alone, Ukraine had lost almost 5,500 troops, including over 2,000 killed.

Regarding its own casualties, Moscow has not updated the numbers since March, when it reported 1,351 military personnel killed.

Kiev has not disclosed its total military losses since the beginning of the conflict but claims that the figure is several times lower than Russia’s. Moscow’s assessment of the numbers is the opposite.
