not happy china.....BEIJING -- China deplores and firmly opposes the US passing and signing into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, which contains negative content concerning China, a foreign ministry spokesperson said Saturday in a press release. China has made serious demarches to the United States, the spokesperson said. This Act, in total disregard of facts, hypes up the "China threat" narrative, blatantly interferes in China's internal affairs, and attacks and discredits the Communist Party of China (CPC), said the spokesperson, adding that this is a serious political provocation against China. The spokesperson said that the leadership of the CPC is the choice of history and the people. The Chinese people are clear-eyed about the US ill intention of suppressing and containing China's development and thwarting the Chinese nation's rejuvenation. "Attempts to drive a wedge between the Chinese people and the CPC will not succeed." This Act also contains a large number of negative provisions on Taiwan which seriously violate the one-China principle and the stipulations in the three China-US Joint Communiques. This sends a gravely wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and severely affects peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, according to the spokesperson. "Taiwan is China's Taiwan. No external interference in China's internal affairs will be tolerated," said the spokesperson, stressing that the United States needs to stop seeking to use Taiwan to contain China, stop fudging, distorting and hollowing out the one-China principle, and stop moving even further down the wrong and dangerous path. "We urge the United States to earnestly follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two presidents in Bali, abandon the Cold-War and zero-sum mentality and ideological bias, adopt an objective and rational view of China's development and China-US relations, and not to implement the negative China-related sections in the Act," said the spokesperson, adding that China will take strong and resolute measures to firmly safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.

salami tactics....
Washington must drop its “old trick of unilateral bullying” that it hands out to Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The two top diplomats had a phone call at Washington's request, Beijing said in a statement.
“It must be pointed out that the United States should not pursue dialogue and cooperation while containing and stabbing China in the back,” Wang told Blinken, according to the readout of the call circulated by the Chinese Foreign Ministry. “In effect, it is still the old trick of unilateral bullying. It has not worked with China in the past, nor will it work in the future.”
Wang added that Washington “must take seriously China's legitimate concerns, stop containing and suppressing China's development, and particularly stop using salami tactics to constantly challenge China's red line,” referring to the negotiation practice of repeatedly securing small, incremental concessions.
Washington and Beijing should build on the “common understandings” reached by the US and Chinese presidents during their recent meeting in Indonesia, Wang stressed. “The zero-sum mentality will only lead the two major countries to mutual attrition and head-on collision. And it cannot be more obvious who is in the right and who is in the wrong,” he stated.
According to the Chinese side, Blinken reiterated Washington’s respect towards the One-China policy and said it “does not support Taiwan’s ‘independence.’”
“The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue. Wang Yi stressed that China always stands for peace,” the ministry added.
The US Department of State released a tight-lipped readout of the talks as well, stating only that Blinken had “discussed the need to maintain open lines of communication and responsibly manage” the bilateral relationship. The US also said its top diplomat“raised concerns about Russia’s war against Ukraine and the threats it poses to global security and economic stability” during the phone call.
Over the past few years, China-US relations have been plagued by multiple issues, with the Taiwan problem remaining the main one. While formally following the One-China policy and recognizing Beijing’s sovereignty over the island, Washington has been actively cooperating with Taipei.
Visits of senior US officials to Taiwan, as well as booming military cooperation between Taipei and Washington, have repeatedly raised objections from Beijing, which sees such activities as meddling in its internal affairs.
Taiwan has been de-facto independent since 1949 when the losing side in the Chinese Civil war relocated to the island and established its own administration there. China considers the island an inalienable part of its territory.

one china policy......
Washington intentionally hypes up the “China threat” as an excuse to boost its military spending, all in an effort to maintain its global dominance, the Chinese Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday, after President Joe Biden signed the 2023 US National Defense Authorization Act into law.
“Facts have proved more than once that the US is the direct threat to the international order and the culprit of the regional turbulence,” said the ministry’s spokesman, Colonel Tan Kefei.
The statement went on to claim that, in pursuit of its own interests, the US on multiple occasions has “either waged wars against other countries or created conflicts, causing massive casualties and displacement of innocent civilians.”
The $858-billion US military budget for fiscal year 2023, which authorized $10 billion in security assistance and fast-tracked weapons procurement for Taiwan, is yet another in a series of provocative moves that “seriously jeopardize the peace and stability in Taiwan Strait and increase the risk of China-US military confrontation.”
The Chinese People's Liberation Army further vowed to “resolutely safeguard national reunification and territorial integrity of the country,” warning that Washington has no other choice but to “respect China’s core interests and major concerns.”
The island of Taiwan has been self-governed since 1949, but never officially declared independence from Beijing, while China views it as part of its One-China territory. Tensions between Beijing and Taipei have been high since the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in August.
Washington must drop its “old trick of unilateral bullying” that it plays with Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a phone call earlier this week. “It has not worked with China in the past, nor will it work in the future.”
