the BBC goons.......Twitter CEO Elon Musk has ignited a feud with the BBC by labeling the British broadcaster a “government funded media” organization. The BBC denies taking state money and its defenders claim that being funded by the British government differs from being funded by the British public. Twitter applied the label to the BBC’s main account earlier this week, after slapping US broadcaster NPR with a similar tag describing it as “US state-affiliated media.” While Twitter previously reserved such labels for foreign media outlets – like RT and China’s CGTN, Musk said that applying it to NPR “seems accurate.” NPR’s tag was changed to read “government-funded media” after an outcry from US liberals. The BBC bristled at receiving the tag. “We are speaking to Twitter to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” the broadcaster said in a statement on Sunday. “The BBC is, and always has been, independent. We are funded by the British public through the licence fee.” READ MORE: US broadcaster gets ‘state’ tag on TwitterOn Twitter, the BBC’s defenders pointed to the license fee as proof of the network’s independence. The BBC, Deadline reporter Jake Kanter argued, “is funded by the British public through a system known as the licence fee. The BBC’s operations and editorial decision-making are entirely independent of the government.” However, commenters pointed out that the license fee “is a government tax in all but name.” Set by the government, the fee is an annual payment of £159 ($197) owed by any household with a television or device capable of receiving television broadcasts. The BBC hires contractors to visit the homes of suspected evaders, and those who refuse to pay can be prosecuted by the broadcaster. Around 45,000 people per year are prosecuted for failing to pay the license, the Telegraph reported last month. The UK’s Office for National Statistics classifies the fee as a tax, and the BBC as part of the “central government sector” of the UK economy. In addition to determining the cost of a TV license, the government directly funds the BBC World Service and finances the BBC’s ‘Media Action’ department. This department, which is also funded by the governments of the US, Canada, Norway, Sweden, the EU, the UN, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, supplies two dozen developing countries with “information they can trust,” per the BBC’s website. While the BBC stated that it is editorially independent, internal communications published by the Guardian last month showed that its editors asked reporters to avoid using the term “lockdown”when talking about the government’s response to the Coviid-19 pandemic, under direct order from the government. Furthermore, journalists were instructed to be more critical of the opposition Labour Party due to complaints from the government.

harry who?
"Who is Harry Bolz?" is the most searched thing on the internet right now.
-------
Twitter CEO Elon Musk has jokingly rebranded his company “titter” and himself as “Harry Bolz,” in his latest potty-mouthed prank since his takeover of the social media platform.
A photo posted on Twitter last week apparently showed that someone had papered over the ‘w’ on the sign outside the company’s San Francisco headquarters. While some Twitter users assumed the image had been photoshopped, Musk confirmed on Sunday that he had since ordered the letter to be painted over, changing the sign to read “Titter.”
Musk said that as San Francisco law forbade him from removing the letter entirely, he simply had it changed to the same color as the sign’s background. “Problem solved!” he exclaimed.
The world’s second-richest man evidently wasn’t done with the toilet humor, and on Monday Musk changed his Twitter user name to “Harry Bolz,” for no apparent reason save for the obvious innuendo.
Within minutes of the name change, Twitter users noticed that someone had created a “Harry Bolz”cryptocurrency.
Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion last October, and immediately set about rolling back some of the platform’s more odious speech restrictions while cutting its workforce by three quarters in a bid to right its finances. Along the way, the billionaire has injected his own irreverent sense of humor into proceedings, most recently when he announced last month that all inquiries from journalists to Twitter’s press email address would receive a poo emoji as an automated reply.
Musk’s penchant for pranks is apparently turning off advertisers, however. According to a report last week by online news source Semafor, some of America’s top marketing executives are nervous about appearing beside “Harry Bolz” at a trade conference in Miami later this month.
In one email cited by Semafor, McDonald’s chief marketing officer Tariq Hassan accused Musk of “perpetuating racism” by lifting Twitter’s speech restrictions. When Forbes magazine contacted Twitter for comment on Thursday, it received “a poop emoji” in response.

'Exposing the Hypocrisy'
Elon Musk’s “truth telling” policy is “exposing the hypocrisy” of the West, said Chris Garaffa, weighing in on the outcry from massive and well-funded Western media platforms, like PBS, NPR, CBC over the Twitter designation.
Establishment figures may be "shouting at the top of their lungs" about PBS and NPR being labeled as government funded media, yet they are quite happy to see Russian outlets, for example, labeled as state affiliated media on Twitter, said the technologist and cohost of CovertAction Magazine podcast.
“The hypocrisy that we're seeing is that it should only apply to the, quote, enemies of the United States, but not to the agencies. And, you know, in the United States, like NPR, which is technically independent, but the math has been done. It does get government funding. It really is exposing the hypocrisy of a lot of these commentators who are saying that Twitter shouldn't be doing this or Elon Musk shouldn't be doing that.”
As far as NPR, or PBS are concerned, they've both said that they were not going to use Twitter anymore, but they already have a “pretty high profile,” Garaffa pointed out.
“I think we can certainly learn from the lessons that that that are being that are being shown here. And I think we're learning in real time what people actually think about so-called free speech and the role that corporations are playing, unfortunately, in censorship,” Chris Garaffa summarized.

While Western state media 'hate to be outed', they are currently being branded 'government funded' on Twitter. This measure, which has so far only been applied to Russian and Chinese media, makes them "furious", according to former French MEP Florian Philippot.
If previously the label "government funded" had only been applied on Twitter for Russian and Chinese media, it now no longer spares Western public media. According to former French MEP Florian Philippot, this makes them "furious".
"They moan when it's just normal! They hate being unmasked! Cheer !" exclaimed the leader of the Patriot movement on this social network.
Targeted mediaThe Canadian company CBC Broadcasting Corporation suspended its activities on Twitter on April 18 today after the appearance of the label "Government Funded Media" ("funded by the government") on one of the company's accounts.
CBC insisted that it was funded less than 70% by the government. Twitter owner Elon Musk later warned in a post that the label CBC had been changed to the following: “media funded 69% by the government”.
Pan-Africanist activist Nathalie Yamb also welcomed the introduction of the “publicly funded” label for French channels RFI et France 24.
However, she insists that it would be fair to label them as "government funded" channels, since Radio France receives, among other things, subsidies from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The parent company of both outlets is public, France Médias Monde, Yamb said, citing media monitoring The Media Ownership Monitor Cambodia.

blue ticked.....
Some Twitter accounts with more than one million followers have had their blue tick badges re-instated by Twitter without paying to subscribe.
Beyoncé, Harry Kane, Richard Osman and Victoria Beckham are among those to have their blue tick back.
The BBC News Twitter account also has its gold badge again, but has not paid for it.
Before the platform was bought by Elon Musk, the blue tick was a badge of verification given for free by Twitter.

chair-less BBC .....
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Chairman of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Richard Sharp has resigned amid a scandal over ex-UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson's alleged involvement in his appointment the BBC chairman, the broadcaster said on Friday.
In January, Sharp asked the BBC board to investigate his appointment as the BBC chairman amid reports of Johnson's alleged involvement in the process in exchange for helping the country's ex-leader secure a loan.
