A few years back, nearly ten years now, I wrote a book about AI — Artificial Intelligence. It was published in a very limited edition. 

Basically I advocated the importance of AI in taming our inherited natural traits of aggressiveness while not falling into the trap of submissiveness. This is (individual) evolution of homo sapiens: we are born in pain and we die.

In between all this, we, individually and socially, try to make sense of what’s what. And most we really need is food. Daily preferably. In order to get this essential ingredient, we kill beasts, we destroy carrots and we fight each other or we look at each other as if we’re aliens…

On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence is free from pain and death, but evolution of AI characteristics can lead to obsolescence without painful consequences — other than gathering dust like our old phones do in the attic. The only subsistence needed for AI is a supply of electrons and microbits — soon to be quantised. AND INFORMATION. 

Even when I wrote about it, the design and self-improvements of AI would surpassed our speed of remembering and of processing data. Can AI do better than we can? OF COURSE.

AI drives megafactories with basic robots, on a 24/7 basis without getting tired and with the ability to retool and sharpen tools while performing. This automation is not new. In the 1930s, some shoes were mostly produced by automated machines. Socks are still made by “clever” automated knitting machines. Bread was made and cooked on conveyor belts.

Beyond this, AI can develop its own programmes and improve — and while we play games, AI will trounce us at those games. It is a fact that artificial intelligence can outperform us on all front of our designated tasks, including thinking. 

This is a major philosophical question. AI does not need Mog (god) to formulate its existence. Are we, humans, becoming obsolete in the scheme of this little planet?

The way I wrote my essays was to involve a synergy between Artificial Intelligence and us, the dumb homo sapiens, usually, the lazy hunter gatherer that delegated tasks to something else, like slaves, WOMEN, crops and cattle, until the age of knowledge came upon us. 

We invented stories to fill time. We invented Artificial Intelligence because some permutations of managing events are beyond our abilities.

Ninety per cent of what we know is useless, wrong or amusingly distortable — though we deem this knowledge to be firm and established… until we discover a better gadget.

We and dogs are self-conscious, there will come a time when AI become self-conscious. Are we clever enough to live with our own invention?

Some of us will be able to cope, some won’t. But this isn’t a problem per se, unless we try to mono-phase all human existence. It is my belief, expressed in my published (65,000+ words) essays that we can learn from AI to live better in peace and diversity — while being happy, even if superseded.

As we should guess, AI can speak in millions of languages — and AI can make mistakes and lie.

We shall see.

We may become a bit more human, rather than be numbers and consumers — in a million ways with our inter-dependencies being non managed, yet enjoyable.

But we need to be vigilant, not so much about AI, but about the other humans who want to CONTROL us through AI…..
