in the meat grinder......

The greatest show on Earth is now a circus of double-dealing and sleight of hand applied to geopolicy. In the West, so-called experts are announcing a Ukraine counteroffensive as if it were an upcoming sports contest. Conversely, in the trenches of Ukraine, Wagner Group’s leader Yevgeny Prigozhin is running interference for a counter-counter offensive Russia has planned. Fox News’s Tucker Carlson is fired for telling the world how American media really works, and Ukraine Nazis assassinate Russian media persons with real bombs.

BY Phil Butler

No one in America can read, hear, or view Russian news channels, and all the Russians witness is a level of hatred and lousy sportsmanship from Western media/analysis. Meanwhile, NATO blows its bugle and wakes up every soldier in Europe. No kidding, the military presence is drastically ramped up on Greece’s biggest island, Crete. It’s as if the Greeks expect Russian warships offshore any minute. Craziness. We should be used to it by now, but the censorship and propaganda only get worse, even when we believe it’s as bad as it can get.

Foreign Policy Magazine SPAMs me daily, the most recent email headline being “You’re Invited: Ukraine’s Spring Counteroffensive.” I half expect Rocky Balboa and Ivan Drago to square off in the middle of the ruins of Bakhmut, instead of what’s happening. Isn’t it obvious what the Russians want with this nowhere town? Those pesky Russians have taken a page out of Washington’s playbook of BS to trap more combatants within a civilian-free zone. Let me explain.

Foreign Policy is broadcasting some stock enhancing misdirect through the “expert” advice of Rand Corporation’s Dara Massicot and FPs Ravi Agrawal. Massicot, a Russian military strategy expert at the U.S. DoD, now curls up at her keyboard to discuss things like the pre-nuclear phase of conflicts. Like all positions at Rand, her role is to ensure that the U.S. military-industrial complex and its investors make piles of cash.

Before the Biden Administration promised Patriot Missile Systems to Zelensky, Massicot wrote “Ukraine Needs Help Surviving Airstrikes, Not Just Killing Tanks,” for Defense One in January 2022. Some months later, the missile defense systems were being made ready to be sent to Ukraine. This venerable surface-to-air missile (SAM) system is manufactured by U.S. defense contractors Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing. The reader should note that Raytheon stocks gained $20 per share in the period just before the announcement of the Patriots to Ukraine and after the stories broke in late December 2022. Lockheed Martin’s shares gained almost $100 per share in the same period, and Boeing gained about $70 per share.

The money being made across the board because of the Western war on Russia is the only factual truth citizens of any nation can trust. Everything else is known as “manufactured consent,” for what many experts believe will be the shooting phase of WWIII. But, of course, Vladimir Putin has already said the U.S. and its allies have engaged Russia in a real war. All everyone seems to be waiting for is the part where nuclear missiles fly. But before then, Putin and his colleagues are playing the game in an exciting way.

The Russian forces arrayed on three sides of Ukraine are sufficient to crush whatever remains of Zelensky’s war-making capability. Ukraine has already lost between 300 and 500 thousand troops and about 40,000 civilian casualties. A million civilians would probably have died had Russia gone in hard, and Ukraine’s cities would be rubble. Tucker Carlson, the revered Colonel Douglass Magregor, and a dozen other truth-tellers can still voice their opinions, and the news has pointed out Putin’s “soft invasion” many times. However, the mainstream media in the West can still manufacture the ridiculous.

Take the importance of the little city of Bakhmut. Besides being a key transportation hub, the town has no strategic importance. Western media has harped on this to take jabs at the Russian military strategy, but the analysts at these outlets are not very smart. What makes Bakhmut so important and interesting from a new warfare perspective is the tens of thousands of soldiers President Zelensky and his advisors in Washington have wasted there. Wagner and the Russians lured them in, and President Putin’s plan to demilitarize Ukraine with the fewest civilian losses possible is being carried out. The Russians have blown to bits a relatively unimportant city in the middle of nowhere, with very minimal collateral civilian casualties. Most of the 40,000 civilians killed in this conflict were slain in places like Mariupol, where Ukraine Nazis used them as human shields.

Yevgeny Prigozhin is yelling, “no ammo” from the rooftops of eastern Ukraine. American, British, and EU media are going nuts reporting how “Putin’s Chef” is lashing out at Russia’s Defense Minister, Sergei Kuzhugetovich Shoigu, for failing the Wagner operatives. This morning, the yowling included allegations of Russian troops deserted.

The Russians don’t want a spearhead of a lame counteroffensive aimed at Kherson or Crimea, and they’d prefer Zelensky waste more Ukrainian blood in the middle of nowhere. Prigozhin is begging for a counteroffensive spearhead aimed at his forces. If the plan works, Zelensky will be exiled to Miami within a month, and Russia’s forces can roll up to Kyiv and occupy the entire east bank of the Dnieper. The Americans will beg for a partitioning of Ukraine, and Cold War 2 will be in full effect.

Joe Biden will have done his job. So will the experts at Rand. American investors in commodities from missiles to wheat to oil and gas will continue to rake in hundreds of billions, and the losers will be the people of every country in the world. Worse still, if the citizens of the United States fall for the complete media takeover and the deep state controlling their lives, nothing will be off the table for the people standing behind the politicians. There’s the game. And now, you assess how important Bakhmut is.

imbecilic mick.....

Ukraine was able to stall Russia's last major offensive in Bakhmut, but the current stalemate has resulted in one of the bloodiest battles since Russia invaded Ukraine more than a year ago.

By concentrating its own forces in Bakhmut, Ukraine has tied up a large proportion of the Russian military and inflicted heavy losses.

Meanwhile, fighting has continued along the eastern and southern fronts, where neither side has managed to make any real breakthrough.

Now the pressure is on for Kyiv to make sure this attritional conflict will not turn into another stalemate by reclaiming territory from Russian control, and prove it can put advanced Western military assistance to effective use.

In the meantime, Moscow is reinforcing its front lines, digging trenches and trying to make sure their positions are defensible.

Why spring?

Spring was touted as the time when the Ukrainians would likely have donated Western vehicles and weapons in place and their troops trained.

It was expected that by then, Russian forces would be depleted enough to give Kyiv a chance to punch through their fortifications.

But as weather expert and retired US military meteorologist David Helms explained, weather also plays a crucial role.

Mr Helms said weather affected everything from vehicle mobility to satellite surveillance capabilities and the effectiveness of electro-optic equipment.

"The goal there is to see the other guys before they can see you, so you can launch and hit them before they even know you're there," Mr Helms told the ABC.

Last month, Canberra-based defence company Electro Optic Systems signed a $120 million deal to export its Remote Weapons System to Ukraine.

The weapons system is fitted on top of armoured vehicles and tanks to allow troops to identify targets and fire on them without leaving the vehicle.

Other Western countries have also provided night vision equipment which can give a significant advantage in low-vision conditions such as cloudy weather or nights with low moonlight.

Knowledge of weather conditions can allow troops to employ these tools, and at the right time, to get the greatest advantage.

Mr Helm is part of a network of expert digital volunteers monitoring and sharing information that could give Ukraine the upper hand.

"In the military, all this science, all this intelligence — signals intelligence, human intelligence, environmental intelligence — that's the weather guys — they're all being brought to bear," he said.

"I'm hopeful that the Ukrainians will be able to exploit all this intelligence community data and information in formulating their plan."

But one thing that could play an even bigger role in Ukraine's counteroffensive plans is mud.

As the ground thaws out from the winter freeze, the ground usually turns to mud in early spring, making unsealed roads impassable.

The soil will begin to dry across Ukraine from the south, meaning that within a certain window, if timed correctly, Ukraine could advance while Russian tanks are still stuck in the mud.

Predicting when the mud will dry up requires a lot of intricate calculations using data from various weather surveillance technologies.

This year, April experienced unusually high rainfall, extending mud season by about a month.

Such conditions make ground operations, resupply and air support much more difficult to sustain.

Mr Helms said lighter vehicles or tracked heavier vehicles fare better in this condition.

Critical to a "mud counteroffensive strategy" is an analysis of the vehicles and weaponry available to each side.

READ ALL (NEARLY ALL) ON THIS SITE. RUSSIAN TROOPS CONTROL 98.5 PER CENT OF BAKHMUT.... THE UKRAINIAN TROOPS HAVE BEEN DRAWN INTO BATTLE THERE SO THEY CAN BE MASSACRED.... YESTERDAY, THE UKRAINE ARMY LOST 1600 MEN. DEAD. NOT COUNTING THE INJURED. THERE WILL BE NO SUCCESSFUL COUNTERATTACK. THE RUSSIAN FIREPOWER IS NEARLY 100 TO ONE MORE MPOWERFUL (AND NUMEROUS) THAN THE LITTLE TANKS AND AUSSIE VEHICLES PROUDLY AND STUPIDLY SENT BY OUR GOVERNMENT. WHERE ARE THEY? HAVE THEY BEEN SEEN ATTACKING SUCCESSFULLY SOMEWHERE? NO....

peace please!

by Patrick Raymond

What is certain with the war in Ukraine is that at the operational level, we are being pissed off. Everything purrs like well-tuned music paper.

Falkenhayn wanted to bleed the French army white at Verdun. Make him lose twice as many men, due to the superiority of the artillery. He did not succeed, it would have required the cooperation of the French army, something he never obtained.

In Russia, in Artemovsk, on the other hand, the Russian army has captured very well this contest of the Ukrainian army, and of the government, which consists in having its own army massacred, in a meat grinder, where the Wagner group, takes all his time. Indeed, to lose 500 [UKRAINIAN] men (a minimum, probably double on the whole front) per day, it is a gift that cannot be refused, when with the material, it is always insufficient, the ammunition misses more and more .

Finally, it is the disadvantage of the media. It is necessary to give subjects of articles, reports, ramblings, without taking account of reality.

What would really entangle the Russians is having to move forward, at the risk of ending up with a guerrilla behind. As long as the assumed suicide of NATO and Ukraine takes place near its borders, it is always less logistics.

NATO equipment, on the other hand, looks more like scrap metal than something usable, or is so rare and in such small quantities that it is no longer even a sample...

As for the rest, NATO is unable to fight without having total air superiority. To face Russia - an empire cemetery, too - it's not won. Historically, Russian anti-aircraft defense has always been very strong, and is constantly advancing, outpacing advances in aviation.

As a reminder, the few tens, or even the hundreds of planes that the collective west could provide, are nothing.

During Viet Nam, largely Soviet anti-aircraft defense destroyed thousands of aircraft. To the point of bringing the USAF to the breaking point, which led it to engage the so imperfect Starfighters, nicknamed "the widowmaker" (in times of peace…), which were kept warm at the national guard , just to not have to use it, and in the assholes of allies.

The Vietnamese speak of “Aerial Dien Bien Phu. »

12.500 planes, helicopters and drones of the USA and its allies were lost, 1500 to 1700 for the opposing camp. It is clear that from now on, the USA would no longer even have the possibility of aligning so many of them, nor even of committing its planes stored in its deserts.

In Vietnam, the Americans have never succeeded in even diminishing the flow of supplies to the republic of North Vietnam, nor even in diminishing the North Vietnamese military force.

In Ukraine, it is clear that the flow of Russian armaments and ammunition is not drying up, but that it is that of NATO that is suffering, and we can only be satisfied with clearly insufficient and non-replaceable endowments.

The air arm of the collective west is like the rest, outnumbered, outmoded for the most part, and hopeless of improvement. Except for career generals on LCI [FRENCH TV CHANNEL].

pommy missiles.....

London’s decision to supply Kiev with long-range cruise missiles is another step towards a “serious escalation” of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday. The ministry branded the move as “a very unfriendly step” on the UK’s part, which proves London’s “unprecedented level of involvement”in the conflict.

“Carried away with geopolitical games … the UK is apparently ready to cross any red lines and bring the conflict towards a totally new level when it comes to destruction and casualties,” the ministry’s statement read.

Russia “reserves the right to take any measures deemed necessary to neutralize a threat that may arise from Ukraine’s use of the British cruise missiles,” the ministry said, adding that those behind this “reckless step” and London’s “destructive activities” in general would be to blame for the consequences.

On Thursday, the UK confirmed it was handing several of its Storm Shadow cruise missiles over to Ukraine. The weapons can hit targets over 250km (155 miles) away. British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace claimed it was a “calibrated and proportionate response” by London to the situation in Ukraine.
