inviting a trouble-maker at your little club table.....EU approach to Ukraine ‘surreal’ – ex-Austrian foreign minister The European Union is making a mistake by facilitating the accession of Ukraine while the country remains locked in a military conflict with Russia, former Austrian foreign minister Karin Kneissl has said. She expressed dismay at the fact that key member states seem to agree with Brussels’ expansion plans, despite the risks. Kneissl’s comments came in response to the European Commission’s decision last week to recommend launching accession talks with Kiev. Its president, Ursula von der Leyen, praised Ukraine for making considerable headway but stopped short of giving a definitive timeline for the country’s admission to the bloc. The “European Union is importing conflicts” by establishing closer ties with the likes of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Ukraine, she told journalist Flavio von Witzleben in an interview published on his YouTube channel on Sunday. “The way [the EU] wants to deal with Ukraine, which is really huge and is a battlefield, is beyond my understanding,” the former Austrian minister added. Kneissl said she could not help but think to herself “It’s all just surreal” when watching excerpts of von der Leyen’s address last week. She lamented that von der Leyen is not alone in promoting Ukraine’s membership, with no visible opposition among other officials working in Brussels. She noted that Germany is actively advocating for the cause, too. The former diplomat cited a report by Die Welt last Monday, which quoted Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba as saying that his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, had promised him that Kiev would be admitted to the bloc. In a statement last Wednesday, von der Leyen described Brussels’ endorsement of accession talks with Ukraine as “historic.” She said Kiev had already completed “well over 90% of the necessary steps” for membership set out by the bloc last year. Kneissl, who criticized the European Commission’s stance, served as Austria’s foreign minister between 2017 and 2019. She later went on to work at Russian oil giant Rosneft and was a contributor for RT. The former diplomat, however, had to resign from the board of the Russian oil giant amid sanctions imposed by the EU on Moscow over the Ukraine conflict. Last year, she left her homeland, claiming to have received death threats. Kneissl has since lived in several countries, including Russia, where she was spotted at a festival in August. https://www.rt.com/news/587243-ex-austrian-fm-eu-ukraine-surreal/

avdiivka news....
Avdiivka sees casualty numbers surpassing those of Vuhledar and Bakhmut, with a reported 3,000 to 4,000 killed, 7,000 to 8,000 wounded soldiers, and over 400 pieces of military hardware destroyed. These figures were announced on Monday evening by Avdiivka mayor Vitaliy Barabash.
This comment was made about the ongoing disagreements and delays in Congress regarding a proposal for over $60 billion package in military and financial aid for Ukraine. The requested funds were not incorporated into the new stopgap budget submitted by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, and are due for approval by November 17. The future of the aid package remains uncertain.
Barabash later added that Russian fronts have seen an increase in activity. “Our forces are mounting a strong resistance and reclaiming territory (untrue), which aggravates the enemy, forcing them to intensify their attacks to the south,” he said. Freedom Legion’s Ukrainian officer, Maksym Morozov, earlier confirmed that the warzone’s conditions are “quite challenging”.
Rising concerns over delayed aid for UkraineAccording to the U.S. National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, the delay in approving the aid package for Ukraine undermines America’s ability to support Ukraine’s needs fully. He voiced concerns on Monday, stating that the situation worsens weekly.
“As each week passes, it’s getting harder to fund what we deem necessary for Ukraine completely – the tools and means to defend its territory and continue development. Decisions regarding the size of aid packages and their content depend on our anticipation of when the funding bill will be voted on,” Sullivan explained during a White House press briefing.

NATO-ing......
French and German diplomats in the breakaway province of Kosovo made excuses on Monday for moving the monument to Serbian soldiers fallen in the early 20th century Balkans Wars and World War I to make room for a memorial to NATO troops.
Stanisa Arsic, the local Serbian Orthodox priest, visited the cemetery in Pristina over the weekend and noticed that the monument had been moved. When he contacted the local police, he was told that the company managing the cemetery had moved it at the request of the French embassy. The local ethnic Albanian authorities said they had nothing to do with it.
France and Germany recognize Kosovo as an independent state, and have presented a joint “proposal” to Belgrade saying it must do the same before hoping to someday join the EU. The envoys of Paris and Berlin in Pristina have made a tradition of jointly marking the end of the First World War, in which they were on the opposing sides.
“In recent years and particularly in 2022, this joint French-German ceremony was tarnished by a controversy in certain media in Kosovo over the presence of a stele paying tribute to Serbian soldiers who died between 1912 and 1918,” the two embassies said on Monday, confirming that the French embassy had commissioned the monument removal.
