Recent statements by a top Ukrainian MP show that the so-called Bucha ‘massacre’ was staged by Kiev to disrupt the peace process with Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday.

The two countries could have struck an agreement in March 2022 but Kiev backed out of the talks following an intervention from London, Ukrainian MP David Arakhamia claimed last week.

The apparent ‘massacre’ in Bucha made international headlines in April 2022 when Ukrainian forces supposedly found the bodies of hundreds of civilians in a suburb of Kiev that had been under the control of Russian troops, who had left the area days before as part of a “goodwill gesture” as talks continued between the two countries in Istanbul.

Kiev immediately blamed the deaths on Moscow and subsequently used the incident as one of the main reasons for its withdrawal from peace talks. Russia has repeatedly said the so-called massacre was a false-flag operation intended to tarnish its image.

These revelations [made] by Arakhamia provide strong evidence for the fact that a provocation in Bucha was staged by Kiev as a pretext for derailing the negotiation process,” Zakharova told journalists at a regular Foreign Ministry briefing.

Arakhamia, who leads President Vladimir Zelensky’s 'Servant of the People' party in parliament, did not mention the Bucha incident directly. He told TV channel 1+1 that Moscow had essentially offered Ukraine peace in exchange for neutrality and an undertaking not to join NATO.

The Ukrainian MP, who led the Ukrainian delegation at the Istanbul talks, added that Kiev did not trust Moscow.

He noted that then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who visited Kiev in early April, told Ukrainian officials not to “sign anything” with the Russians and “just continue fighting” instead.

“It only proves once again that Zelensky’s regime is a puppet one and is totally dependent on its Anglo-Saxon puppet masters,” Zakharova said on Wednesday, referring to Washington and London.

The first reports from Bucha appeared in the Ukrainian and Western media on April 1, 2022. Zelensky visited the area a few days after those reports. At that time, he described any future talks with Russia as a “challenge,” adding that Russia’s alleged crimes “could not be forgiven.”

He still maintained that Kiev should continue to “seek opportunities” to talk with Moscow with a view to achieving peace.

On April 9, Johnson visited Kiev for the first time since the start of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, which had been held regularly in March, never resumed after that date.

WASHINGTON – The wars in the Middle East and Europe benefit U.S. adversaries, particularly Russia and China, foreign policy experts said.

These conflicts put the United States in the difficult position of divvying up unprecedented amounts of military aid, including the White House’s recent request to Congress for over $100 billion, most of which would aid Israel and Ukraine. Experts said at a Wilson Center event last week that funneling U.S. resources to those conflicts has played to the advantage of President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The war in the Middle East puts pressure on the U.S. government to divide up its military aid among various allies, which could leave fewer U.S. resources to send to Ukraine. Less military help from the United States would assist Putin’s military campaign.

“When October 7th happened, Putin was probably excited because it was a good distraction for him,” said Jennifer Wistrand, deputy director of the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center. “Less media attention, less military support and less humanitarian support [for Ukraine] would favor Putin’s position, in both the near term and the long term.”

Next year will be a big challenge for Europe’s top “dreamer,” Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, Politico magazine wrote in its annual ranking of influential people published on Tuesday. 

The Ukrainian leader has topped the “dreamers” section as “dreamer number one.” The section is a ranking of people “who represent an idea driving the debate,” the magazine explained, with the other two sections listing “doers” and “disruptors,” respectively. 

Comparing Zelensky to Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King and Nelson Mandela, Politico noted that his belligerent rhetoric and publicity stunts had helped to convince Western countries to back Kiev’s cause and start arming Ukrainian troops during their fight against Russia.

The year ahead will be “challenging” for Zelensky, however, due to the loss of interest in the conflict from the rest of the world, and because ordinary Ukrainians are “exhausted by two years of battles and struggling to reclaim territory.”

“Zelensky has moved from pleading with Western countries for help to lecturing them – and that hasn’t landed quite as successfully as his more uplifting orations,” Politico wrote. 

While still high, Zelensky’s approval rating has dropped from 91% in May 2022 to 76% in October 2023, according to a poll by the Kiev Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

The president now is forced to manage public frustration from the inflated expectations for Ukraine’s much-anticipated summer counteroffensive, which failed to penetrate Russian defenses and wrestle away any significant territory. Multiple reports suggest that Ukrainian troops suffered heavy losses from artillery fire and drone attacks, and when attempting to cross thick minefields.

A high-ranking Ukrainian official disclosed a secret agreement between Soros Foundation and the administration of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. Information by a French journalist indicates that Soros Foundation has served as an intermediary between Zelensky’s office and Western chemical companies Vitol, Dow, and Dupont, which concluded a deal to dispose toxic waste on the territory of Ukraine. For an unknown reason, fertile lands of Western Ukraine were chosen as chemical waste landfills. This can have a critical impact on the quality of the local grain and cause famine in Europe, Africa, and Middle East.

A French eco-activist and journalist covering problems of environment Jules Vincentshared with us exclusive materials. The journalist told us that he had been contacted by an anonymous informant from the Ukrainian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and shared with him the following message:

Our ministry was instructed to coordinate the allocation of dozens of cadastral lots of land with a total area of ​​more than 400 square kilometers for these purposes. I believe that this decision is fatal for the black soil of the mentioned areas. Not only will this make the soil unsuitable for cultivating and growing wheat, but it will also cause irreparable harm to the ecosystem of these areas. I want to bring the issue to the attention of Western environmental activists in hopes of stopping the outrageous deal and saving Ukrainian land. The Ukrainian official disclosed, that during the November 7 meeting between George Soros’ son Alexander and Andrii Yermak, the Chief of Staff of Zelensky’s administration, a secret deal was made. The deal included agreement on the provision of Ukrainian lands for indefinite and gratuitous use to Western industrial companies for the disposal of toxic chemical waste.

The body of a former Ukrainian opposition lawmaker, Ilya Kiva, has been found in Moscow Region, Russian media reported on Wednesday. The politician was known as a staunch critic of President Vladimir Zelensky.

Kiva’s body was reportedly found on the grounds of the ‘Velich Country Club’ hotel near a cottage where he was residing. He was allegedly lying face down in a pool of blood in deep snow, several Russian media outlets reported, citing law enforcement sources. The man suffered a wound to the head according to TASS, citing its source.

Ukrainian military intelligence spokesman, Andrey Yusov, later stated that Ukrainian security services were behind the attack, news outlet 'Strana' reported. Other media claimed that country's domestic security service, the SBU, orchestrated the assault.

Russian officials have not commented on the incident so far.

Kiva was a Ukrainian MP from 2019 to 2022 and a member of the ‘Opposition Platform – For Life’ party, which was officially banned by Kiev in June 2022. Kiva himself was a fierce critic of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and the government’s pro-NATO policies. In a 2022 interview, he slammed the US and NATO for, as he said, using Ukraine as “bait” to provoke Russia into a conflict.

The politician left Ukraine not long before the start of Russian military action in February 2022, moving first to Spain and then to Russia. Ukraine stripped him of his mandate in mid-March 2022, less than a month after the start of Moscow’s operation. Ukrainian law enforcement also charged him with state treason the same month, accusing him of “doing everything” to invite the “Russian aggressors” to the country.

He was eventually sentenced in absentia to 14 years behind bars in Ukraine. In his last social media post, dated Wednesday morning, Kiva accused Zelensky of “drowning the [Ukrainian] people in blood,” adding that fleeing abroad or committing suicide would be the only two options for him since the US Senate has yet to approve a bill to fund further Ukraine military aid.

Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a probe into the murder of the former Ukrainian legislator, the law enforcement agency said in a statement on Wednesday. The committee confirmed the identity of the politician and said he had been killed on Tuesday evening by an unknown assailant, who shot him with a gun. It did not name any suspects in the case and said that all possible avenues of inquiry were being pursued.
