On the anniversary of Baron Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen's death (September 1923), the horrible man, and on the present killing of nearly 10,000 children by the IDF (Israeli Defence Force) and on the grooming of (millions of?) kids as exposed by the movie Sound of Freedom, we should ask what is wrong with the world... The answer is simple: us.

The Massacre (or Slaughter) of the Innocents is an incident in the Nativity narrative of the Gospel of Matthew (2:16–18) in which Herod the Great, king of Judea, orders the execution of all male children who are two years old and under in the vicinity of Bethlehem. Christians venerate the Holy Innocents as the first Christian martyrs,[2] but a majority of Herod biographers, and "probably a majority of current biblical scholars" consider the story fabricated or unhistorical.[3]

This somewhat profound statement apparently comes from a French raunchy novel, Lord Lyllian, by Baron Jacques d’Adelswärd-Fersen (born 1879) — a French poet and novelist. Aristocrat and dandy, he is known for having created Akademos, the first French homosexual magazine. He eventually killed himself (suicide?, accidental overdose? in 1923) by drinking champagne laced with cocaine…

Lord Lyllian, which was only translated and published in English in 2005, was first published in 1905. It is one of Baron Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen's more important novels, satirising the scandal of having compromised young boys around himself in Paris (1903), using touches of the Oscar Wilde affair for good measure. The hero (VILLAIN), Lord Lyllian, departs on a wild odyssey of sexual debauchery, is seduced by a character who seems awfully similar to Oscar Wilde, falls in love with girls and boys, and is finally killed by a kid (REDEMPTION? JUSTICE? TRAUMATISED KID FOR LIFE?).

The public outcry, about the supposed Black Masses related in Akademos, is also caricatured. The work is an audacious mix of fact and fiction, that includes four characters who are d’Adelswärd's alter egos.

Jacques d'Adelswärd-Fersen was very familiar with homosexual luminaries of the late 19th century: Oscar Wilde, Lord Alfred Douglas, John Gray, Jean Lorrain, Joséphin Péladan, Achille Essebac, Robert de Montesquiou, Friedrich Krupp — as well as their muses the actresses Ellen Terry and Sarah Bernhard. 

Lord Lyllian’s fictitious characters have become iconic in some circles, and many of its readers admire the way Adelswärd-Fersen portrays them with very camp dialogues that Wilde would not have denied — and in perfectly melodramatic set-ups.

Della Robbia, Jean d'Alsace, the big Herserange, the Prince himself held back a sigh of admiration and amazement.

Lord Lyllian was naked, young and handsome like Ganymede — and he began to dance, to mime rather (the music lent itself to this) a sort of lascivious step, throwing back his head, rolling his eyes. His fingers ran over the gypsy woman's face, who was already in ecstasy. A necklace, unique — a necklace of opals and star rubies sparkled on his chest. Two bracelets, one Hindu, of chiseled gold, the other all gleaming with gems, adorned his slender girlish wrists. And, with each step, two pink pearls caressed his sex like a final and disturbing jewel.

The stunned guests (what a nerve… What a nerve! drooled Herserange) — except Alsace who appreciated it — did not dare say anything as not to wake up Feanès [her “husband”].

But, as Lord Lyllian now stooped to wrap the gypsy's head with his tingling thighs, the woman thirsty for love, violence and rut, forgetting everything, the place and the time, grabbed the tempter [by the balls] to make him scream…

At this cry, Feanès opened his eyes.

— Mother of G...! he roared. And, as pale as death, his temples buzzing, Feanès suddenly grabbed a sharp knife from the flagstone paving, and threw himself at Lord Lyllian. But Lord Lyllian had somewhat anticipated this. Two Neapolitans, on his order, blocked the way and held the man back.

— Leave it to me, so that I can kill him! shouted Feanès.

— Open the window... there. On the canal, Renold commanded.

— Lyllian, what are you going to do? Someone asked.

¬— Throw him out the window.

— But you’re drunk!

— Sure… Do I care?

And, before della Robbia could intervene, the Neapolitans seized the terrified Feanès, threw him into the void, and, like at the end of those amusing Italian comedy, the “husband” was heard falling into the water.

— Go and fish him out now; and if I don't look good enough to him, I accept the challenge… after I have washed him clean!... taunted Lord Lyllian with a smile.

Then, as the helping slaveys were leaving, Renold, who had put his coat back on, approached the now trembling female, and with a kiss, bit her lips.

Raunchy…. 1905! but as mentioned, the most challenging quote from this novel could be:

You will not make the majority, which is made up of imbeciles, accept theories which are not made up of prejudices.
