MOSCOW, (Sputnik) - Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that due to the active military actions of the Russian army in the Kramatorsk, Kupyansk and Toretsk directions, a difficult situation has developed for the Ukrainian forces, the most difficult for Kiev is in the Krasnoarmeysk sector (Ukrainian name Pokrovs'ke).

"Today I spoke with the Commander-in-Chief. The Pokrovsk direction faces the highest number of assaults. The situation is also difficult in the Kramatorsk, Toretsk, Kupyansk directions. Nearly two hundred battles are baing fought daily along the entire front," Zelenskyy said in a video message on Telegram.

On August 21, retired SBU Col. Oleg Starikov stated that a tactical crisis had already occurred for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions, which could develop into an operational one.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky previously stated that the situation along the entire front line was difficult. According to Syrsky, the Russian army has an advantage in the air, missiles, and artillery ammunition.

Last week, the General Staff of the Ukrainian troops reported a tense situation in the Kupyansk and Seversk directions.

Earlier, the head of the Russian administration of the Kharkov region, Vitaly Ganchev, said that the Russian Armed Forces were liberating the road connecting Kupyansk and Svatovo, and several villages along it had already come under the control of Russian troops. According to Ganchev, the Russian Armed Forces are slowly but surely advancing toward Kupyansk.

On Friday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Yug ("West") group of forces had liberated the settlements of Stelmakhovka in the LPR and Sinkovka in the Kharkiv region. On Saturday, August 31, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Yug group of forces had defeated units of four Ukrainian brigades and repelled a counterattack, with the enemy losing up to 780 servicemen.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has initiated an apparent purge of senior officials, sacking the deputy head of his office on Tuesday and accepting resignation letters from three ministers, as well as the country’s deputy prime minister.

Zelensky’s deputy head of office, Rostislav Shurma, was fired on Tuesday, according to a decree posted on the office’s website. No reason was given for his dismissal.

Writing on Facebook shortly afterwards, the speaker of Ukraine’s parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, said that Vice Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina, Minister for Strategic Industries Aleksandr Kamyshin, Minister of Justice Denis Maliuski, and Minister of Environmental Protection Ruslan Strilets had all handed in resignation letters.

Zelensky is also considering firing Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and multiple other officials, Ukrainian media reported, citing anonymous sources.

Since the conflict with Russia began in 2022, Zelensky has periodically purged senior military and political officials. The former commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny, was fired earlier this year after Ukraine lost – according to Russia – roughly 160,000 men in last summer’s disastrous counteroffensive.

Last September, Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov was sacked over his alleged role in major corruption scandals that was believed to have hindered the offensive.

In a more recent round of firings, Zelensky sacked several senior officials described by the Washington Post as “reformists…who appeared especially close to Washington.”

Typically, these purges have been preceded by harsh losses on the battlefield. In the weeks leading up to Tuesday’s firings, Ukraine’s cross-border offensive into Russia’s Kursk Region ground to a halt with the loss of more than 9,300 troops and nearly 750 armored vehicles, according to the latest figures from the Russian Defense Ministry. 

With Ukraine’s most battle-hardened troops diverted to shore up the flagging Kursk offensive, Russian forces have made rapid gains in Donbass, with the key logistics hub of Pokrovsk now within reach of Moscow’s troops.

According to a report by the Financial Times last week, Zelensky’s own own soldiers, lawmakers, and military analysts blame him for the rapidly deteriorating situation in Donbass.

In the Russian missile attack on the communications training center in Poltava, Ukraine, many Swedish and Danish instructors were killed. They belong to the company manufacturing AWACS and SAAB Globaleye drones.

According to information gathered from intelligence circles, Sweden has reportedly lost ALL of SAAB's top management of Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) systems.

The Russian attack was so fierce that 15 trucks evacuated dead NATO soldiers and foreign officers: more than 600 dead/injured.

Yesterday, in my first report on this incident, I reported more than 700 deaths (article here). This figure is now confirmed by a Ukrainian in Poltava:

A local Ukrainian blogger says there are 760 dead Ukrainian soldiers so far from the Poltava attack.

Swedish Foreign Minister Billström resigned after Russian Iskander missiles hit Poltava, and Sweden suffered war losses just months after joining NATO, at the request of the former Foreign Minister. Ukrainian units are being withdrawn from the Dnipropetrovsk region, Krivoy Rog region, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions and are being transferred to Pokrovsk, Mirnograd and Selidovo to try to defend Poltava and that region. ALL of these new troops are currently being bombarded with air bombs (FAB) by the Russian Air Force.

Fleeing from the frontlines, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempt attacks in the Russian rear regions with drones and unmanned boats. The Russian military responds with devastating strikes on Ukrainian hideouts throughout the country.

On the night of September 5, Russian forces repelled another attack of Ukrainian unmanned boats in the Black Sea. Usually Ukrainian boats are operating in the western waters of the Black Sea, where they attempt attacks on the Crimean peninsula and the city of Sevastopol. In particular, on September 4, four Ukrainian boats were destroyed in the area.

But last night, they were spotted in the northeastern waters of the Black Sea. The target of their attack was likely the city of Novorossiysk, which hosts a large port. As a result of the attack, two Ukrainian unmanned boats were destroyed. No damage was reported on the Russian coast.

The resumed Ukrainian operations in the Black Sea may presage another Ukrainian attempt to launch a large-scaled attack on Crimea or Krasnodar region with drones and NATO missiles.

At the same time, the scale of Ukrainian drone strikes in Russian border regions decreased. At night, only seven Ukrainian UAVs and a rocket of the Soviet-made Olkha MLRS were destroyed over the western Russian territories.

Ukrainian strikes resulted in no damage to the Russian military but brought new threat of escalation. Ukrainian drones reportedly crossed the Belarusian airspace. At least one Ukrainian UAV was reportedly intercepted in the Gomel area. This is the second such incident over the past weeks. The violation of the Belarusian airspace results in increasing tensions on Ukrainian border.

In their turn, Russian forces are pounding the Ukrainian military with precision strikes near the frontlines and far in the rear. A new wave of strikes began in the evening of September 4 and continued all night. After Russian massive attacks inflicted heavy damage to Ukrainian infrastructure, the recent strikes are mainly targeting Ukrainian manpower accumulated in rear regions.

The devastating strikes on Ukrainian manpower began on September 3, when Russian Iskander missiles destroyed the training center in Poltava, killing hundreds of Ukrainian servicemen specialists trained by foreign instructors in electronic warfare and operation of UAVs. On September 4, Russian missiles struck targets in the western city of Lviv. They included facilities of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex, like military airfield, and accommodations of Ukrainian officers and foreign mercenaries. In recent days, several hotels full of militants were destroyed throughout eastern Ukraine, including in Zaporozhie, Krivy Rih, Kramatorsk etc.

Last night, Pokrovsk was covered with smoke after facilities turned into military warehouses were destroyed by Russian strikes. Explosions thundered in the Odessa region. A train with Ukrainian servicemen reportedly came under attack in Novomoskovsk in the Dnepropetrovsk region.

As a result of the Russian missile attack on a training center in Poltava on September 3, about 500 military specialists were killed and wounded, including mercenaries from Europe, a high-ranking military source reported.

Ukrainian media reported on Tuesday, September 3, about two explosions in Poltava amid an air alert. Commenting on this information, Sergei Lebedev, coordinator of Nikolayev's pro-Russian underground movement, told Sputnik about an air raid on an air camp near the military airfield.

About 50 French fighters were killed as a result of the strike by Iskander tactical ballistic missile system on a foreign mercenary station in Ukraine's Konstantinovka, the statement said.

On September 4, a strike was carried out on the temporary positions of foreign mercenaries in the Ukrainian city of Krivoy Rog, the enemy lost more than 250 militants.

High-precision strikes against the positions of Ukrainian troops and mercenaries, as well as military facilities, will now become a regular occurrence, the source added.

MOSCOW, (Sputnik) - The Russian armed forces have eliminated more than 10,400 Ukrainian servicemen and 81 tanks during military operations in the border areas of the Kursk Region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.

In total, during the military operations in the Kursk direction, the enemy lost more than 10,400 servicemen, 81 tanks, 41 infantry fighting vehicles, 74 armored personnel carriers, 599 armored combat vehicles, 339 cars, the ministry said in a statement.

Over the past 24 hours, Kiev lost up to 300 servicepeople and 12 units of armored vehicles, including two armored personnel carriers and 10 armored combat vehicles, the ministry said.

Units of the Russian northern group repelled two attacks by Ukrainian troops and thwarted attempts by Ukrainian troops to attack in the Kursk Region, the ministry said, adding that Kiev has lost up to 30 servicepeople.
