what could go wrong when second-fiddling idiots are in charge on planet A.....Western countries should allow Kiev to issue an ultimatum to Moscow and allow long-range missile strikes deep into Russian territory if the Kremlin fails to comply with it, German MP Friedrich Merz told Stern magazine in an interview published over the weekend. The politician leads Germany’s biggest opposition party – the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) – and will be its chancellor candidate at the next parliamentary elections. Germany is potentially heading into a snap vote early next year after the three-party government coalition collapsed last week. According to multiple news media outlets, the elections could take place as early as February 23, if Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s now-minority cabinet loses a confidence vote in mid-December. Asked by Stern whether he would supply Kiev with Taurus missiles if he gets to lead Germany’s next government, Merz said that “Germany must do everything” to ensure Ukraine can “successfully” fight against Russia, except for entering the conflict itself. The politician then went on to say that he keeps the possibility of sending the missiles “open” and suggested what some German media have described as an “ultimatum” plan. Merz proposed “giving the government in Kiev a right to say: if the bombing of civilian population does not stop within 24 hours, the range limitations on the use of … weapons will be lifted jointly” by Ukraine’s Western backers. If that is not enough, Taurus will be delivered a week later,”the politician added. Kiev has long urged Berlin to provide it with long-range Taurus cruise missiles. The German-made weapons have a range of about 500 kilometers (300 miles). The Ukrainian government is also seeking permission from its backers to strike deep inside Russian territory, using Western-supplied weapons – a request that has so far not been granted. Moscow has repeatedly warned that the West’s ever-increasing involvement in the conflict risks a direct clash between Russia and NATO. Previously, President Vladimir Putin ordered changes to the nation’s nuclear doctrine to allow the deployment of nuclear weapons if Kiev were to use Western-supplied conventional long-range missiles to strike Russian territory. Scholz has been reluctant to satisfy Kiev’s demands for Taurus missiles, pointing to a potential escalation. Last month, he said that he did not “deem this the right supply.” When asked whether his proposal amounts to “precisely the kind of escalation that many Germans fear,” Merz responded by saying that Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky had previously told him that Berlin was “not doing enough now.” “Next year we will have to ask ourselves: do we really want to give up on Ukraine?” the politician added. Germany is the second-biggest donor of military aid to Ukraine, totaling over €10 billion ($11.19 billion) between January 2022 and June 2024, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev commented on Merz’s statements on Tuesday, saying that the MP was basically “inviting war to their territory.” https://www.rt.com/news/607548-germany-ukraine-russia-ultimatum/

losing WW2 was not enough....
Poland’s Chief of General Staff, General Wieslaw Kukula, has called for heightened military and civilian readiness against what he describes as a “real threat” from Russia.
In an interview with Rzeczpospolita published on Tuesday, Kukula told the newspaper that Warsaw must be fully prepared to defend the nation, emphasizing that a well-prepared nation, with strong defensive capabilities and a resilient society, would present a “huge risk” for any attacker.
“This is a real threat,” the general stated firmly, stressing that the possibility of a conflict should not be underestimated.
Kukula’s comments reflect a tradition among Polish leaders to adopt a hawkish stance toward Russia, given the countries’ historically turbulent relationship. According to him, Moscow’s military potential remains considerable, with strong demographic and raw-material resources, as well as a functional defense industry capable of sustaining and expanding military capacity.
“Russia’s intentions are clearly conveyed by President [Vladimir] Putin and Foreign Minister [Sergey] Lavrov,” the general noted, suggesting that the Kremlin’s military ambitions remain largely unchanged since late 2021.
Highlighting his concerns, Kukula argued that Poland must be vigilant against strategic vulnerabilities. He claimed that Russia might exploit scenarios like a divided NATO or US involvement in a Pacific conflict to increase its “military actions.” “Our goal is to make the most likely scenario one in which we effectively dissuade Russia from aggression,” he explained, noting that Polish defense measures should be paired with a strong public display of determination to protect national sovereignty.
Moscow has consistently denied any intention to attack NATO, with President Putin recently describing warnings about Russian aggression toward Western Europe as “nonsense” aimed at alarming citizens and raising defense budgets in the West. During an interview earlier this year, he insisted “What they say about the fact that we are going to attack Europe after Ukraine is complete nonsense… it’s solely intimidation to extract money from their people.”
Kukula, however, insists that deterrence requires a combination of military investment and public resolve. “It is not enough to simply report on our rapidly developing defense potential,” he concluded. “It is equally important to demonstrate our determination to protect ourselves.”

and boris....
The UK cannot let Ukraine suffer a defeat in its ongoing conflict with Russia, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told GB News in an interview published on Tuesday. London could go as far as sending in troops if Kiev “goes down,” he warned.
According to Johnson, Russia’s success in Ukraine would spark a security crisis for the US and its allies on a multitude of fronts. “It’ll be the Baltic states. It’ll be in Georgia. You’ll see the impact of a Ukrainian defeat in the Pacific theater. You’ll see it in the South China Sea,” the politician said, without specifying what exactly could happen in those regions.
He also described military and financial assistance to Kiev as a “sensible investment” and a “good” way to spend public funds, arguing that the UK would supposedly have to pay much more otherwise because “our collective security will be really degraded by a resurgent Russia threatening all sorts of parts of Europe.”
The former prime minister also pointed to the prospect of the US cutting aid to Kiev as a potential risk, claiming some people with “wrong” views on the issue were in president-elect Donald Trump’s inner circle.
“Donald Trump has lots of different voices in his ears and there’s a front of the Republican Party, quite a lot of them actually, who take the wrong line on Ukraine,” he said.
If aid to Ukraine is reduced and Kiev starts losing, London could be forced to deploy troops to the region, Johnson claimed. “We will then have to pay to send British troops to help defend Ukraine,” the politician stated.
Russia has repeatedly stated that it had no plans to attack NATO or any of its members. At the same time, Moscow has also warned on multiple occasions that by providing military aid to Kiev, the bloc increases the risk of a direct clash, specifying that it would treat the provision of long-range missiles for Ukrainian attacks deep inside Russian territory as a direct assault by the countries which had supplied the weapons.
Earlier, Putin ordered changes to the nation’s nuclear doctrine that listed attacks by a non-nuclear state supported by a nuclear power as a reason for a nuclear response on Russia’s part, among other things.
READ MORE: Ex-UK PM responds to claims he scuttled the Ukraine peace dealLast week, The Telegraph reported that the UK, together with France, could push for further escalation of the Ukraine conflict by attempting to convince Washington to allow Kiev strike targets deep inside Russia with Western weapons, including Storm Shadow/Scalp cruise missiles.
Johnson himself was accused of being instrumental in disrupting the peace talks between Moscow and Kiev back in spring of 2022. Talks in Istanbul had produced a text that was agreed by Russian and Ukrainian negotiators at that time. The head of the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, MP David Arakhamia, later admitted that Kiev pulled out of that deal after Johnson urged it to “just fight” Russia, during a visit to the Ukrainian capital.
