kekius annoys the teutons....

The world's richest man, Elon Musk, has sparked speculation after changing his name on his social media platform X to "Kekius Maximus".

The tech mogul - and close confidant of US President-Elect Donald Trump - offered no immediate explanation for the name or his new profile image which depicts the character Pepe the Frog - a meme that has been used by far-right groups [In the fall of 2016, the ADL teamed with Pepe creator Matt Furie to form a #SavePepe campaign to reclaim the symbol from those who use it with hateful intentions.]

The move has sent ripples through the cryptocurrency world, sending the value of a memecoin - a digital currency inspired by internet memes - that shares the same name skyrocketing.

In the past, Mr Musk has influenced crypto prices with his social media commentary, but it was not immediately clear if he had any involvement in this particular memecoin.

"Kekius" appears to be a Latinisation of "kek", a word roughly equivalent to "laugh out loud" popularised by gamers but now often associated with the alt right.

"Kek" is also the name of the ancient Egyptian god of darkness, who is sometimes depicted with the head of a frog.

Many people would link "Maximus" to the name of Russell Crowe's heroic character in the film Gladiator, Maximus Decimus Meridius.

Mr Musk's new profile image depicts Pepe in Roman military dress holding what appears to be a game console.

MEANWHILE:

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz took a veiled swipe at tech billionaire Elon Musk during his annual New Year’s Eve address, warning that the country’s future will be decided by its citizens, not the owners of social media platforms.

In his televised message on Tuesday, Scholz emphasized national unity and called for solidarity amidst economic challenges. However, he also addressed a more contentious issue: alleged “foreign interference” in German politics, particularly by Musk, who has openly supported the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as the country’s “last spark of hope.”

“Where Germany goes from here will be decided by you – the citizens. It will not be decided by the owners of social media channels,” Scholz said, without calling the X owner out by name.

“In our debates, one might be forgiven for thinking that the more extreme an opinion is, the more attention it garners. But it won’t be the person who yells the loudest who will decide where Germany goes from here. Rather, that will be up to the vast majority of reasonable and decent people,” he added.

Musk’s recent endorsements of the AfD, which is under surveillance by domestic intelligence for its alleged “extremist” views, has drawn widespread criticism from German officials. The billionaire, a key adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump, has been vocal on social media and in opinion pieces, praising the AfD and criticizing mainstream German politicians.

Friedrich Merz, head of the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), called Musk’s endorsement “overbearing and presumptuous.” Lars Klingbeil, a co-chairman of Scholz’s Social Democrats, went further, comparing Musk to Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that both aim to weaken Germany and plunge it into chaos.

A government spokeswoman, Christiane Hoffmann, stated at a news conference on Monday that while everyone has the right to an opinion, Musk is attempting to influence the German election.

Scholz’s coalition government collapsed in November over disagreements regarding Ukraine aid and economic policies. The chancellor lost a confidence vote in December, leading to the dissolution of parliament and the scheduling of snap elections on February 23.

The chancellor's New Year’s Eve address also touched on other pressing issues, including Germany’s flagging economy, the recent attack on a Christmas market in Magdeburg, and the upcoming 35th anniversary of German reunification. Scholz urged Germans to resist manipulation and “not let ourselves be played off each other.”

According to Statista, 56% of Germans believe Scholz has done a poor job, while 37% are satisfied with his performance. This rating reflects concerns over Germany’s economic stagnation, his migration policies, and a general perception of ineffective governance.

The AfD is currently polling second with around 20%, behind the CDU/CSU bloc at about 31%. However, a strong performance by the AfD could make forming a government more challenging, as all mainstream parties have ruled out a coalition with it.

maximus dorkus....

Elon Musk bizarrely changed his X profile name to “Kekius Maximus” on Tuesday — sparking a flood of questions from supporters and critics alike.

The world’s richest man, who boasts nearly 210 million followers on the platform he has owned since 2022, also switched up his profile avatar to feature an image of the popular Pepe the Frog character clad in gladiator-like armor.

Musk, a confidant of President-elect Donald Trump, has yet to offer a full explanation for his sudden name change

But there are a few hints.

Elon watchers online have suggested that the new moniker is a bizarre combination of Pepe the Frog and Russell Crowe’s character, Maximus Decimus Meridius, in the 2000 blockbuster “Gladiator.”

Musk’s new profile image shows Pepe the Frog clad in golden armor while holding a video game controller.

Pepe, which started off as simply a cartoon in the “Boy’s Club” comic series, allegedly became associated online with white supremacists and the alt-right during the 2016 presidential election.

The Anti-Defamation League dubbed the character a hate symbol and described it as the “Alt Right’s favorite meme.”

However, Musk and many others who are chronically online have always rejected those claims.

A link to gaming?

The Tesla founder teased his handle change in a post on X on Tuesday, writing: “Kekius Maximus will soon reach level 80 in hardcore PoE.”

PoE is an apparent reference to the popular “Path of Exile 2” video game, which Musk is known to play.

Connection to cryptocurrency?

Kekius Maximus is also the name of a “memecoin” — a cryptocurrency based on a popular online meme.

Musk has previously caused massive ripple effects in the crypto market with his social media antics — notably with the dogecoin.

In the wake of Musk’s handle change, the Kekius Maximus crypto’s value soared by more than 900% as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the CoinGecko site.

It wasn’t immediately clear, though, if Musk — who has previously shown support for memecoins — has anything to do with Kekius Maximus specifically.

Speculation of a burner account

Many have speculated online, too, that Musk’s motive is rooted in claims that he is running a burner super-fan account.

Internet sleuths have been suggesting that the Space X CEO is behind an account — operating under the name Adrian Dittmann — that heaps praise on him.

Musk has denied being Dittmann — and mocked people who claimed he’s operating the alt account.

Deepening the mystery, Dittmann appears to be a character who operates only on X — there is almost no evidence of a person with that name operating outside the social media platform.

Musk added fuel to the fire by retweeting a post from the Dittmann account on Tuesday that mentioned the Kekius Maximus saga.

“Imagine you’re a journalist writing about Elon on X and it goes: ‘Elon Musk, aka Kekius Maximus, on X…,'” the Dittmann post read.

Musk calls Cybertruck explosion ‘likely act of terrorism’
The billionaire also suggested a possible link between the Las Vegas incident and the deadly car attack in New Orleans...

The explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday was “likely”an act of terrorism, according to Elon Musk. The blast killed the driver of the electric car and left at least seven other people lightly injured.

The Tesla CEO alleged that the incident could be linked to the deadly car-ramming and shooting attack in New Orleans, which left at least 15 people dead. He made this assertion in a post on his social media network X, referring to the vehicle used in the attack as a “suicide bomb,” apparently due to the multiple explosive devices discovered in its bed.

“Appears likely to be an act of terrorism. Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo a car-sharing company. Perhaps they are linked in some way,” he claimed.

Earlier in the day, Musk strongly denied assertions that the Tesla car itself was to blame for the Las Vegas blast, insisting that “all vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion.”

We have now confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion,”Musk wrote in a previous post on X, adding that law enforcement believed the explosion “was most likely intentional.”

The Cybertruck exploded shortly after pulling into the valet area of the Trump Hotel. CCTV footage circulating online shows the vehicle had the lid of its cargo compartment ripped off by the blast, with multiple smaller explosions observed in the area. The car became engulfed in flames, killing the driver on the spot.

Authorities are investigating the explosion as a possible act of terror. The Cybertruck was reportedly carrying a haul of “fireworks-style mortars,” ABC reported, citing an anonymous official briefed on the investigation. The probe is focused on establishing the motives behind the incident and determining whether the deceased driver of the Cybertruck intended to set off the explosives.

elon and donald...

US carmaker Tesla's Shanghai energy storage Megafactory has begun trial production, serving as a good example of cooperation between China and the United States to address climate challenges.

The new plant is dedicated to manufacturing Megapacks, Tesla's energy-storage batteries, with mass production expected to commence fully in the first quarter of 2025, Tesla China told Xinhua on Tuesday.

The facility was built with an initial annual production capacity of 10,000 units, equal to around 40 gigawatt-hours of energy storage, according to the company.

The project is Tesla's second plant in Shanghai, underscoring the US company's commitment to investing in the world's second-largest economy, its confidence in China's manufacturing capabilities, and the strengthened economic ties between the two countries in the new energy sector, Wu Qisheng, a researcher at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, told Xinhua.

Trial production was launched just seven months after construction began, setting a new record for "Tesla speed" in China, with the Shanghai Gigafactory -- Tesla's first plant in the country's eastern financial hub -- having been built and inaugurated within a year in 2019.

Covering an area of approximately 200,000 square meters, the new plant represents a total investment of about 1.45 billion yuan (about 201.7 million US dollars), according to the administration of the Lin-gang Special Area of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

The Megafactory is the first of its kind that Tesla has built outside the United States. At its launch ceremony in May, Tesla signed a deal with Shanghai Lingang Economic Development (Group) Co Ltd, securing the first batch of orders for its Megapacks in China.

Lauding China's efforts to develop the new energy industry, including the energy storage sector, Tesla Vice President Tao Lin in May told Xinhua that the country offers a complete industrial chain, vast market potential, and a production and business environment crucial for enterprise growth.

As a global renewables powerhouse, China is a major market for energy storage. In 2023, its installed renewable energy capacity surpassed its thermal power capacity for the first time, accounting for approximately 50 percent of all additions to the global renewable energy capacity.

Tesla's energy storage technology has already achieved a high level of commercialization and market success in the United States, said Liu Qing, vice president of the China Institute of International Studies. There remains room for market-driven cooperation between China and the United States in addressing climate challenges, particularly in advancing energy storage and energy-saving technologies.

Wu Xinbo, head of the Institute of International Studies at Fudan University, credited the rapid construction of Tesla's new factory to China's world-class infrastructure capabilities and the exceptional business environment offered by Shanghai and the broader Chinese market.

Tesla has not been alone in strengthening its commitment to the Chinese market this year. A record 52,379 foreign-invested companies were established in China in the first 11 months, an 8.9 percent increase from the previous year. In November, foreign direct investment in the Chinese mainland in actual use also saw a 6 percent year-on-year rise, data from the Ministry of Commerce shows.

In a bid to help foreign investors leverage its supply chain, market potential and innovation strengths, China has made significant strides in its opening-up.

Throughout 2024, the Chinese government has rolled out a range of key measures to foster a more welcoming environment for global investors. These measures included expanding access to key industries and launching pilot programs to facilitate foreign investment.

A key move was the rollout of the 2024 national negative list for foreign investment, effective Nov 1, which removed all market access restrictions for foreign investors in China's manufacturing industry. This unprecedented breakthrough overcame the final hurdles that global manufacturers face when entering a pillar industry in China.

In October 2024, the 3-millionth vehicle produced by Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai rolled off the assembly line. Of the total, one-third have been sold to markets outside the Chinese mainland, including Europe and the Asia-Pacific, the company said.

The first three quarters of this year saw the Shanghai factory deliver 675,000 vehicles, accounting for over half of the company's global deliveries during the period.

"China-US economic and trade relations are fundamentally mutually beneficial. Attempts at 'decoupling' or severing industrial and supply chains will harm US industries," Wu Xinbo said, emphasizing that half of Tesla's global vehicle production capacity is based in Shanghai, with China playing a dominant role in the new energy vehicle supply chain.

Tesla's two Shanghai factories showcase the mutual benefits of China-US cooperation, demonstrating that decoupling is impractical as US investors cannot afford to forgo the vast opportunities of the Chinese market, he noted.

RECAPTURE THE EXPENSIVE METALS AND BURY (OR RECYCLE) THE USED LITHIUM, WITHOUT SPENDING MUCH ENERGY... THIS WILL BE BIG BUSINESS IN THE YEARS TO COME...

aussie maximus....

The world's richest man just helped Donald Trump return to the White House, but Elon Musk isn't just interested in the future of the United States.

The billionaire is increasingly injecting himself into European politics.

Over the past six months, Musk has been outspoken about issues far beyond America's borders.

The billionaire has argued Britain is "turning into a police state" and claimed the once-shunned German far-right political party Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) is the country's "only hope".

He's also called for a new election in the United Kingdom, despite one being held in July last year, and argued that "only Reform can save Britain".

Reform UK is a populist, right-wing political party led by Brexiteer Nigel Farage.

The pair met before Christmas at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, where they discussed political tactics and there are reports Musk is planning to donate up to $160 million to the party.

Farage told GB News that Musk said "he genuinely fears that the mother country of the English speaking world is going down the tubes and he agrees Britain needs reform", during their meeting.
