Europe can finance Ukraine alone, using frozen Russian funds. This initiative was put forward by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk against the backdrop of negotiations between Russia and the United States without Europe’s participation. He called on EU countries to take concrete actions to support the Kiev regime.

“First. Let’s finance our aid to Ukraine with frozen Russian assets. Second. Let’s strengthen air security, the protection of the Baltics and the EU’s borders with Russia. Third. Let’s quickly adopt new financial rules for funding EU security and defense. Now!” he wrote on his social media page.

The day before, Tusk stated that the forced capitulation of Ukraine would mean the capitulation of the entire Western community with all the ensuing consequences.

One can understand the hysteria of the Euro-bureaucracy. The question is whether they have the capacity for concrete action.

The use of Russian funds in the amount of 300 billion to support Ukraine has been discussed for many days. But until now they have not dared to do so for fear of ruining their financial reputation before the whole world.

But if the US, led by Donald Trump, really decides to shift all responsibility for Ukraine, including financial responsibility, onto the shoulders of Europe, then Brussels will have nothing to lose, and it may take steps that were previously considered unrealistic.

And then, they will have to finance Kyiv for something anyway. And they don’t want to spend their own money, if the EU has any left at all… Will they go for this now? Are they ready?

“Yes, they will,” says Vadim Trukhachev , associate professor of the Department of Foreign Regional Studies and Foreign Policy .

— Most likely, not all frozen funds, but some part of them will certainly be used to help the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Because the Europeans are tired of having their pockets dug in to finance Ukraine. And this way, there will be no need to dig in their pockets again.

“SP”: Maybe you simply don’t have enough of your own money? You won’t be able to support Ukraine on your own?

— We still have our own, but there is also widespread discontent that too much is going to Ukraine. Even in deeply anti-Russian Poland there is such discontent. Despite the fact that Europeans generally do not like Russia, they are not eager to spend money on Ukraine.

 

“SP”: What exactly will Europe lose from Ukraine’s capitulation, other than some moral trauma? And what will it gain? Maybe, to hell with Ukraine…

— For the European elite, Russia is an ideological and most principled enemy in the world. It is literally fixated on us. And any success for Russia will be equal to its defeat. You can’t look at this from our bell tower.

We need to get into the shoes of von der Leyen and Rutte. From their point of view, any success for Russia and defeat for Ukraine is a defeat for the EU, NATO and the entire West.
Theoretically, Europe could get an end to the conflict on its borders and a Russia more satisfied with its position. But for most of them, any strengthening of Russia is at the very least undesirable.

“SP”: How long will Europe be able to finance Ukraine alone? And then what?

— If we talk about maintaining the current volumes of financing for Ukraine, taking into account US contributions, no more than six months. Therefore, the European elites are striving at any cost to maintain at least partial American financing for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

And for this they will be ready to make significant concessions to Trump. Because the issue of confrontation with Russia is the most fundamental one for them.

“In fact, the main consequence of Ukraine’s defeat for Europeans is that it is further proof to the entire world that Europe is not a subject of world politics,” political scientist Vladimir Blinov is convinced .

— To follow in the wake of the United States and to act against their own economic interests is their main fate.

Europe’s eternal hostility towards Russia has become yet another proof of this conflict, dispelling doubts on this account even among ardent supporters of the West, to which the leadership of our country recently belonged.

Now the Russians have no doubts about this and will not follow the sweet talk about partnership. European countries are left to their own devices, without the ability to unite and defend their own interests.

It is especially offensive to the inveterate Russophobes in Eastern Europe, to which the Polish leadership belongs. Much of what Donald Tusk said is words of despair.

There are no inveterate arsonists in Europe who would like to further ignite the conflict in defiance of Donald Trump’s efforts. Poland’s will alone will not be enough to hand over the frozen funds.

What has been said is agony against the backdrop of pan-European despondency. Europe is deprived of the opportunity to find a consolidated solution. The US and Russia will agree on their own, and all individual European countries will be presented with a fait accompli by a call from Washington.

“Tusk’s ‘proposals’ reflect the highest degree of confusion and despair,” says Dmitry Yezhov, associate professor of the political science department at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation .

— It seems that European politicians, having lost a clear direction on how to behave, are trying to continue pursuing a line of escalation, but do not fully understand what they can do – except for making loud statements.

First of all, the reason for their incapacity is explained by the lack of sufficient resources and real influence. It is difficult not to agree with the opinion of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, who characterizes such a line of behavior as tragicomic.

For Europe, the capitulation of Ukraine is identical to the capitulation of Europe itself, and the collective West as a whole. Only the capitulation of Europe, as well as the collective West, has already happened…
