The press office of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) has published an article suggesting that Russia and Washington should fight "Eurofascism" together, identifying France and Britain as its main ideologues. This is quite a contrast to the statements the service made a year ago. Call for a 'new united effort'

The publication "Eurofascism, like 80 years ago - the common enemy of Moscow and Washington" was published on the SVR website the day before, on April 16. It reports that Europe is "historically predisposed" to various forms of totalitarianism, sometimes leading to global conflicts. Citing unnamed experts and "conservative expert circles in the United States," France and Britain are accused of "particular atrocities" and "a propensity to commit the most serious crimes against humanity.

It is London that the publication assigns a "leading destructive role" in the war in Ukraine. "The British encourage in every possible way the Kyiv regime, which praises the punishers who fought on the side of Hitler, the Bandera executioners, and today itself commits numerous crimes against humanity," the text says.

According to the SVR, the disagreement between the EU and the United States contributes to the latter's "situational rapprochement" with Russia. The authors of the text recall that before the countries have "repeatedly become partners in countering London and Paris". They are presented in the publication as heirs of the Third Reich.

The publication draws direct parallels between the events of World War II, when the US and the USSR united to fight Nazi Germany. The similarities are underscored by the cartoon illustrating the article, in which Russian and American bayonets on both sides smash a beast-like swastika into the face of the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. This is apparently a reference to a 1944 Soviet poster showing American, Soviet, and British bayonets aimed at a German soldier.
