corruption and "we hate this deal"....

In this episode of RT’s ‘Sanchez Effect’, Rick is joined by Independent geopolitical analyst, author and correspondent with 40 years of experience – Pepe Escobar, to discuss the peace deal proposed by Donald Trump. Despite the proposal being portrayed by the West as ‘pro-Russian’, Pepe trashed it point by point, saying that the whole paper is unacceptable to Moscow.

Sanchez Effect | Pepe Escobar: 'They have to re-write 80% of the deal to make it work'

Like for example, Russia rejoining the G8! Russia doesn’t care about the G8, Pepe argues, as it has BRICS that now works to bypass all the Western financial mechanisms. Mr. Escobar believes the Kremlin can no longer make any concessions, knowing that the U.S. and the West can’t be trusted. Rick and Pepe also discussed the corruption scandal in Ukraine, along with the role of Brussels and Washington in it. The senior correspondent has no doubt that the EU elites have also been getting their hands on some of the money they have been sending to the Kiev regime. For more – go to RT International.

Host Rick Sanchez and Escobar also discussed the major graft scandal that erupted in Ukraine this month after the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) announced a probe into what it called a “high-level criminal organization” allegedly led by Zelensky’s longtime associate Timur Mindich. NABU has said the group siphoned around $100 million in kickbacks from the state-owned nuclear operator Energoatom, which relies heavily on foreign aid.

Escobar pointed to a lack of coverage of the scandal in the EU, saying, “You don’t read a single line in European mainstream media about the NABU investigation… total silence,” and claimed this was because officials feared the probe could “track back eventually to Brussels and to the European Commission.”

Ukraine War: EU Makes 8 Key Changes to US Peace Proposal

The European leaders together with US officials have discussed yesterday in Geneva the US “28 points peace plan”. The EU leaders wanted to voice their concerns with specific points of the plan and present their own vision. After the talks have been concluded, the EU leaders have published the full text of their proposed changes. Donald Tusk has stated that it’s important to know who has authored the initial peace plan.

The speaker argues that Western leaders—especially in Europe—are acting on false assumptions about the war in Ukraine. On one day, U.S. officials claim historic progress toward a peace deal, and the next day Zelensky publicly rejects key elements of the proposed plan, aligning instead with hardline European positions (“our way or the highway”). Russia interprets this as the West choosing escalation, and Moscow is prepared to continue the war with its large reserves of personnel and equipment.

A central theme is that many in the West believe Russia is a “paper tiger,” but the speaker says battlefield reality contradicts this. Russia’s advances may be slow, yet they consistently destroy Ukrainian forces, which the speaker argues is Russia’s true objective—not rapid territorial gains. He lists a series of battles where Ukrainian troops suffered heavy losses, while Ukrainian victories since 2022 have been minimal.

The speaker also criticizes Western military leadership and NATO for failing to understand modern warfare—especially the decisive role of drones. A recent BBC-reported training exercise showed Ukrainian troops using small drones to instantly detect and “destroy” Czech NATO troops in a simulation, while Western trainers had failed to incorporate drones into the scenario at all. This, the speaker says, reveals shocking tactical incompetence: four years into the war, NATO training does not reflect battlefield conditions dominated by drones.

He argues that Russia and Ukraine adapted to drone warfare quickly, but NATO forces remain stuck in outdated doctrine. This raises questions about Europe’s ability to defend itself while its political, diplomatic, and military systems appear “dysfunctional.”

The speaker concludes that while Western leaders talk confidently about Ukraine winning and Russia collapsing, their misunderstanding of modern warfare and Russia’s changing tactics suggests the opposite. Russia is adapting, preserving its troops, and grinding down Ukrainian forces—while the West continues training and planning for a type of war that no longer exists.
