irritating irritations....

Two rival peace proposals for Ukraine have emerged – one from the US, echoing long-standing Russian demands, and another from Europe. Kyiv has rejected the US plan as written, insisting its sovereignty cannot be bargained away.

A flurry of recent diplomatic activity has seen two competing peace plans for Ukraine emerge.

The first, widely touted as a US plan, was apparently  hashed out between Kremlin insider Kirill Dmitriev and Steve Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s Russia point-man.

How Trump tried to sell Ukraine a diplomatic debacle

[GUSNOTE: THIS ARTICLE IS FULL OF "WESTERN" MISUNDERSTANDINGS. IT SHOULD NEVER BEEN PUBLISHED BY JOHN MENADUE'S PEARLS AND IRRITATIONS — UNLESS ONE IS, YET AGAIN, FULL-BLOWN RUSSOPHOBIC WITHOUT CAUSE...]

The  second, hurriedly drafted by the United Kingdom, France and Germany, is based on the 28 points in the US plan, but with key modifications and deletions.

Following the release of the US plan, Trump accused Ukraine of showing “ zero gratitude” for US assistance in the war effort, and demanded Kyiv accept the terms by  Thanksgiving in the United States – 27 November – or face being cut off from US intelligence sharing and military aid.

Unlike the US plan, the  European counter-proposal places the blame for the war squarely at Russia’s feet [AS STATED MANY TIMES ON THIS SITE, WITH CLEAR INSIGHT AND DOCUMENTATION, THE CONFLICT WAS PROVOKED BY THE WEST]. It proposes freezing Russian assets until reparations are made by Moscow. It also seeks to freeze the conflict in place, leaving the question of which party retains which part of Ukraine contingent on subsequent negotiations. [SO?]

Speaking about the peace proposals, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen [THIS WOMAN IS A RUSSOPHOBIC BITCH WHO TWISTS HISTORY AROUND HER FASCIST FINGER] made it clear the European Union was committed to several key positions: that Ukraine’s borders cannot be altered by force [THE KIEV REGIME HAS LOST THE WAR. THE DONBASS REGION, FORMERLY RUSSIAN AND MOSTLY POPULATED BY RUSSIANS HAVE VOTED TO RETURN TO THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION]; that there cannot be limitations on Ukraine’s armed forces that would leave it vulnerable [50,000 TROOPS AT MOST WOULD BE SUFFICIENT]; and the EU needed to have a seat at the table in any agreement [EUROPE HAS NEVER TRIED FOR PEACE AND HAS HELPED FORCE RUSSIA TO CARRY ON THE FIGHTING AFTER AN AGREEMENT WAS NEARLY SIGNED IN APRIL 2022].

Comparing the two plans, it is clear Russia and Europe remain as far apart as ever on Ukraine’s future. That much is unsurprising. [SO?]

What should be more shocking to Western observers is just how much the US plan echoed Russian demands that have remained largely unaltered since President Vladimir Putin’s full-scale [LIMITED] invasion [PROVOKED BY THE WEST] of Ukraine in early 2022. [RUSSIA WAS FORCED INTO THE MILITARY OPERATION AS THE NAZI KIEV REGIME WAS ABOUT TO ATTACK THE AUTONOMOUS REGIONS OF THE DONBASS. IN APRIL 2022, THE RUSSIANS DEMANDS WERE FAVOURABLE TO UKRAINE, BY HAVING THE KIEV REGIME ADHERE TO THE MINSK AGREEMENTS IN WHICH THE AUTONOMOUS REGIONS STAYED IN UKRAINE. THIS NEARLY-SIGNED AGREEMENT WAS SCUTTLED BY BORIS JOHNSON, ON BEHALF OF THE UK/USA/EU, AS HE ENCOURAGED THE NAZI KIEV REGIME TO FIGHT ON WITH WEAPONS SUPPLIED BY THE EU/UK/USA... FOLLOW THE CASH]

Put simply, the  US plan would have had as much credibility if it had been written in crayon.[WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?]

For starters, it has wording that appears to make more sense in Russian than English (or perhaps AI-translated English). [MOST LIKELY THE PLAN WAS RECEIVED IN UKRAINIAN (*) AND TRANSLATED INTO ENGLISH, BUT TOO MANY CAUSES ARE TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE TO RUSSIA'S DEMANDS.]

And it seems more focused on bringing about a new era of friendly Russia-US economic cooperation than a serious attempt to resolve Europe’s biggest land war since the Second World War. [THE USA HAS BEEN TRYING TO DESTROY RUSSIA SINCE 1917. THE UK SINCE BEFORE NAPOLEON AND THE GERMANS SINCE HITLER INVADED RUSSIA. HAVING BETTER RELATIONS WITH THE USA ISN'T ESSENTIAL AT THIS STAGE FOR RUSSIA, BUT FOR AMERICA THAT STILL WANTS TO SECRETLY CONTROL RUSSIA. THIS PLAN LOOKS MORE LIKE A US TROJAN HORSE THAN A RUSSIAN CRAYOLA EFFORT.

Typical of Trumpian robber-baron foreign policy, the document foresaw large cash grabs for the US, amounting to little more than attempts at extortion. [MAKE UP YOUR MIND: EITHER IT'S TRUMPIAN FOR CASH OR IT'S A RUSSIAN DOCUMENT!]

In return, Ukraine was offered a murky NATO-style security guarantee that could be reneged upon under flimsy pretexts. [NATO IS THE FASCIST CULPRIT IN THIS WHOE AFFAIR. BILL CLINTON BROKE THE PROMISES MADE BY REAGAN TO GORBACHEV ON THE "NON-EXPANSION OF NATO"...]

The plan also demanded large territorial concessions from Kyiv, a limited army, a pledge enshrined in Ukraine’s constitution that it would never to join NATO, and a promise to hold elections in 100 days. [THE TERRITORY OF "UKRAINE" — THE DONBASS REGION, FORMERLY RUSSIAN AND MOSTLY POPULATED BY RUSSIANS, INCLUDING CRIMEA — HAVE BEEN LOST TO RUSSIA AND RUSSIA WILL NOT GIVE THESE BACK IN A "MILLION" YEARS.]

And while it expected Ukraine to strategically emasculate itself, the document made only vague suggestions about what Russia is “expected” to do, with no means of enforcement. [RUSSIA IS FAR MORE HONOURABLE THAN THE WEST. REMEMBER THE AUSTRIAN NEUTRALITY AGREEMENT AFTER WW2]

No multinational force was put forward to monitor the peace. And Ukraine was required to give up key defensive positions by ceding the territory it still controls in the Donbas region to Russia. That would leave the centre of the country defenceless against future Russian attacks. [THERE WOULD NOT BE FUTURE RUSSIA ATTACK... THE HISTORY OF UKRAINE SHOWS THAT KIEV HAS BEEN POPULATED BY RABID NATIONALISTS WHO BECAME NAZIS AND JOINED HITLER TO MASSACRE JEWS. POLES AND THEIR OWN "RUSSIAN" POPULATION... RUSSIA DOES NOT WANT TO ATTACK THESE NAZI NUTSOES, BUT TO PREVENT THEM TO BE USED AGAIN BY THE WEST TO ATTACK RUSSIA. NO NATO IN UKRAINE AND THAT'S THAT.]

Accepting those terms, as originally written, would be politically suicidal for Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky. This was obvious in his sombre message that the plan forced Ukraine to choose between its dignity and continued US support. [WESTERN BULLSHIT (PROBABLY SCRIPTED BY MI6) DELIVERED BY AGENT ZELENSKY]

Zelensky: We are facing one of the most dangerous periods in Ukrainian history, a choice between losing our dignity and freedom and losing US support. We choose dignity. My answer is my oath of office. I did not betray Ukraine in Feb 2022 and we won’t betray in now. pic.twitter.com/68P7ls7B6G

A closer look at just a selection of its key points illustrates just how bizarre the plan is [PEACE TREATIES THROUGHOUT THE AGES HAVE SEEN FAR MORE BIZARRE CLAUSES THAN THE FOLLOWING ONES — WHICH ARE BADLY INTERPRETED BY THE WRITER OF THE ARTICLE.]

  • Point 4 calls for “dialogue” between Russia and NATO, mediated by the US. That’s odd, since the US is a member of NATO.
  • Point 7 requires NATO to include a provision in its statutes that Ukraine will not be admitted. But the main purpose of NATO is that membership is open to all.
  • Point 9 says “European fighter jets” will be stationed in Poland, but doesn’t mention the American F-35s currently there.
  • Point 10 states that if Ukraine launches a missile “without cause” at St Petersburg or Moscow (strangely implying it’s fine to hit Smolensk or Voronezh, for instance) – then Kyiv loses its US security guarantee.
  • Point 13 says Russia will be invited to rejoin the G8 (the group now known as the G7 after Russia was expelled in 2014). But it says nothing about whether the other six members would agree to that.
  • Point 16 requires Russia to enshrine in law a policy of non-aggression towards Ukraine. However, it had already done so several times in the past, yet still invaded Ukraine in 2022.
  • Point 22 foresees a demilitarised zone in parts of Donetsk that Russian troops will not be able to enter. How to enforce that is left unspecified.
  • Point 26 gives everyone involved in the conflict full amnesty for their actions, including numerous alleged war criminals.
  • Point 27 establishes a “Peace Council” that would be overseen by Trump, similar to the “ Board of Peace” envisioned in the Gaza peace plan, also headed by Trump. This gives him the ability to determine whether the agreement is being violated (and, crucially, by whom).

Ukrainians have been sold a diplomatic lemon before. In 1994, Ukraine signed the  Budapest Memorandum, in which Kyiv agreed to give up the nuclear weapons it still held from the Soviet era, in return for commitments by Russia and the US that its sovereignty and borders would be respected. [THIS AGREEMENT PREVENTED UKRAINE HOLDING ON TO PRIMARILY RUSSIAN NUKES STATIONED ON UKRAINIAN SOIL. AT THE TIME THE RUSSIAN POPULATION OF UKRAINE STILL HAD AN INFLUENCE ON AGREEMENTS AND UKRAINE GENERALLY WAS LEANING TOWARDS RUSSIA. FOR THE NEXT 18 YEARS, THE USA CULTIVATED THE NAZI ELEMENTS IN UKRAINE TO OVERTHROW THE ELECTED GOVERNMENT IN 2014. THE RUSSIAN POPULATIONS OF UKRAINE DID NOT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE NAZI KIEV REGIME.

Just as the current US plan has been rebuffed by Kyiv, there is no hope of the European alternative being endorsed by the Putin regime. Indeed, it has already been rejected by one of Putin’s senior advisers. [THE EU PLAN IS A NAZI PLAN THAT STIPULATED THE LOSER OF THE CONFLICT SHALL BE DECLARED THE WINNER. THIS IS A STUPID PLAN...]

Where does this leave the peace process? US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has already walked back the US plan from a concrete set of demands to a “ living, breathing document”, and hinted at great progress in negotiations with Ukraine.

European and Ukrainian stakeholders have also made approving noises, knowing that if the White House loses interest, securing peace will be much harder. [NO. AGREE TO RUSSIA'S DEMANDS AND ALL WILL BE SWEET. SIMPLE]

Yet it’s below the surface that the real soul-searching will be happening, in Ukraine, as well as the broader West. Once again, the Trump administration has proven it is more interested in long-term deals with autocrats than achieving just and lasting resolutions to security crises. [THE AUTOCRATS ARE IN KIEV AND BRUSSELS, NOT IN MOSCOW].

That alone should give US allies pause, and not just in Europe. For those nations, it’s one thing to doubt Putin’s motives. But it’s another thing entirely to now have to doubt America’s as well. [TRUMP FOR ALL HIS BLUSTER, WHICH NEITHER THE EU NOR RUSSIA TRUST, IS TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE WHILE CASHING IN AND THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE].

WE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME BS FROM THE AMERICANS WHEN THEY ATTACKED IRAQ IN 2003.....

IN ANY OTHER GAME, ONE WOULD COUNT ONE'S LOSSES AND RUN. BUT THE EU WANTS MORE PUNISHMENT BECAUSE THE EU BOFFINS HAVE SUPPORTED A NAZI CORRUPT REGIME AND HATE THIS REALITY OF HAVING "SUNK A LOT OF CASH", WHICH THEY DON'T MENTION, AS WELL.... sturm und drang....

Will Trump cave to Zelensky and sink his own peace deal?
Moscow is serious about the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine – and the longer it takes the West to grasp this, the longer the war will last

By Larry Johnson, political analyst and commentator, former CIA analyst and member of the US State Department's Office for Counterterrorism

From the start of its military operation in February 2022, Russia has been unequivocal in its objectives: demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. The US and its NATO allies, however, apparently do not believe that Russia is serious about this. If the reports about US President Donald Trump’s peace plan are accurate, then it will be rejected by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. There is no room for negotiation on these two points.

Western media reports, citing senior officials following talks in Geneva, claim that Ukraine agrees to limit the number of its armed forces to 800,000 soldiers. That is a non-starter for Russia because it would require Moscow to accept Ukraine having a larger military than it had at the start of the conflict.

On February 22, 2022 – right before the start of Russia’s operation – Ukraine’s military was undergoing reforms to modernize and expand its forces, but it remained smaller and less equipped than Russia’s. Data from authoritative sources such as the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), the Military Balance 2022, and contemporary reports, estimated Ukraine’s core standing army, including ground, air, naval, and support units, to be 196,000 in February 2022; The Ukrainian defense minister later referenced 261,000 as the baseline at the start of the military operation. Ukraine also had 900,000 reservists, which included former conscripts and territorial defense volunteers.

During their negotiations in Istanbul in March 2022, Russia and Ukraine agreed to cap Ukraine’s military at 85,000. Given that Russia is now successfully attacking Ukrainian positions along eight separate axes, Moscow has zero incentive to agree to a plan that would effectively leave Ukraine with the same size military force that it had at the start of the conflict.

The issue of the size of Ukraine’s military is not the only obstacle to a diplomatic settlement of the war. Points concerning territories and security guarantees for Ukraine remain unresolved. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was quite clear about Russia’s position in comments to reporters on Tuesday in Moscow. He said Moscow was expecting to see Washington’s interim version of the deal following input from Vladimir Zelensky and the EU, but implied Russia would remain firm on the goals Putin laid out during his meeting with Trump in Alaska.

“Because if the spirit and letter of the Anchorage agreement are erased, based on the key understandings contained therein, then, of course, we’ll be in a fundamentally different situation,” Lavrov said.

One of those key elements concerns the status of Crimea, Zaporozhye, Kherson, Donetsk, and Lugansk. Under the Russian Constitution, as amended and updated in 2022, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, and Kherson are formally recognized as federal subjects (constituents) of the Russian Federation. This status was established through a series of legal steps in September–October 2022, integrating these territories (referred to as the Donetsk People’s Republic, Lugansk People’s Republic, Zaporozhye Oblast, and Kherson Oblast) into Russia’s constitutional framework. Residents are considered Russian citizens from September 30, 2022, onward. Putin does not have the legal authority to unilaterally reverse that decision. He made it clear to Trump that those territories must be recognized as permanently part of the Russian Federation.

Then there is the issue of denazification. This means the removal of the “neo-Nazi regime” that seized power in Kiev in 2014, which persecutes Russian speakers and threatens Russia. The Kremlin points to far-right groups (Azov Battalion, Right Sector, Svoboda party), Holocaust-denial incidents, and the glorification of WWII collaborators (Stepan Bandera, Roman Shukhevich, the UPA) as proof that Ukraine is ruled or heavily influenced by Nazis.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it is reasonable to assume that the bird is a duck. The same logic applies to the term ‘Nazi’. In other words, denazification means the removal of those who defend Nazi views and the prohibition of Nazi ideology on the territory of Ukraine. Zelensky and his crew will refuse to accept this condition, but Russia will not relent. The memory of the Great Patriotic War and the murder of 27 million Russians by Nazi forces has left a permanent scar on the Russian soul. As far as Putin is concerned, this is not an idle political slogan.

Achieving this diplomatically means that Ukraine must hold new, internationally supervised elections, and the participants in those elections must have no affiliation with neo-Nazi groups or ideology. While the Russians would like to achieve this through diplomatic measures and negotiation, I believe that President Putin and the Russian General Staff understand that the only practical way to satisfy this objective will be through the use of military force and the total defeat of the Zelensky government.

The Ukrainians and EU leaders still believe that they can compel Trump to reject Russia’s conditions regarding the Ukrainian military and the need to denazify Ukraine. Zelensky stated that he is ready to meet with Trump, but wanted the Europeans to be there, too. “I am ready to meet with President Trump – there are delicate issues to discuss. But European partners must be present with me at the negotiations,” he told reporters on Tuesday.

I will take that as a benchmark for judging whether or not President Trump is serious about securing a peace deal that is acceptable to Russia. If he caves to Zelensky and allows the Europeans to participate in the negotiations, then the peace plan is dead. Personally, I believe all the Sturm und Drang surrounding the peace plan is just a distraction cooked up by a White House desperate to avoid the military defeat of Ukraine and, by extension, NATO. It is a futile and feckless exercise. While the talks go on, Russian forces continue to advance all along the line of contact. Ukraine’s defeat is inevitable – it is merely a question of how many more Ukrainian soldiers will die before the reality of that defeat is grasped by Trump and his NATO allies.
