an emerging “battle for the Arctic"....

Demand for survival supplies and long-lasting food products has soared in Greenland’s capital city of Nuuk, CNN reported on Monday, citing local retailers. The surge comes amid growing concerns over possible US interference on the Arctic island.

In recent weeks, US President Donald Trump has intensified his push to bring Greenland under Washington’s control, which he has pursued since his first term. He argues the move is vital for US national security to counter Chinese and Russian influence in the Arctic – a claim rejected by both Beijing and Moscow.

Tensions escalated further last week after Trump vowed to impose an additional 10% tariff in February on US trading partners in Europe that refuse to back his push to acquire the Arctic island. He also said the tariffs would rise to 25% in June and remain in place until a “complete and total purchase.”

On Sunday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the US sees Greenland as vital to its defense in an emerging “battle for the Arctic,” adding that European partners will ultimately “come around” to the idea of handing the island to Washington.

Shopkeepers in Nuuk told CNN that residents are increasingly buying camping stoves, long-shelf-life food, and freeze-dried meals.

Meanwhile, locals interviewed by Reuters on Sunday said they strongly oppose any US takeover of Greenland, describing Trump’s remarks as irrational and threatening. Greenlanders stressed they are not intimidated, expressing confidence the plan would fail and pointing to political and military support from European allies as they seek to defend the island’s sovereignty.

Last week, several European states, including Germany, France, Sweden, Norway and the UK, sent between one and 15 personnel to Greenland for a Danish-led military exercise. German personnel have already withdrawn from the island.

In response to Trump’s tariff threats, the EU has vowed to defend its economic interests with countermeasures, including a possible revival of a suspended €93 billion ($108 billion) retaliatory tariff package. Brussels is also considering the use of the Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI), designed to punish economic coercion with measures such as restricting market access, investment, and intellectual property rights.

US President Donald Trump has shared what he claimed was a private message from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.

The text, posted to Trump’s Truth Social account, showed the French leader expressing confusion over US objectives regarding Greenland, offering to host a G7 meeting in Paris with participation by Ukraine, Denmark, Syria, and Russia, and requesting a dinner with the US president.

“I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland,” the note read. “Let us have a dinner together in Paris together [sic] on thursday before you go back to the us,” it added.

The disclosure follows a public clash between Trump and Macron over the US-proposed ‘Gaza Board of Peace’, which France declined to join. The panel, to be chaired by Trump, is intended to oversee the transition in the war-torn Palestinian enclave. Paris said it refused because the board’s charter “extends beyond Gaza and therefore exceeds the scope of the peace plan endorsed by the United Nations.”

Trump responded by saying “nobody wants” Macron on the council because his presidential term is ending soon and suggested France could be coerced into joining with trade tariffs. The board is set to be formally launched with a charter-signing ceremony on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos later this week.

The annual gathering of global elites is expected to be dominated by the ongoing dispute between the US and Western European nations resisting Trump’s push to acquire Greenland from Denmark. Trump has announced fresh tariffs on eight European NATO countries and suggested they should focus more on the Ukraine conflict instead.

Trump ‘Plants the Flag’ on Greenland as EU Leaders Scramble

Donald Trump has reportedly sent a letter to the Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Store expressing his discontent with the Nobel Peace Prize not being awarded to him. He has also questioned why Denmark should be the one controlling Greenland. President Trump has also posted an image on his social media platform depicting him as planting the US flag in Greenland in 2026. The EU leaders want to approach Trump in Davos in an attempt to get him to de-escalate his claims on Greenland. Russia and China have both confirmed receiving an invitation to join Trump’s “Board of Peace”.

SKYD AF!!!

A Danish member of the European Parliament launched a profanity-laced attack on US President Donald Trump during a debate on Greenland on Tuesday, accusing the EU of failing to stand up to Washington’s renewed claims over the self-governing Arctic island.

Anders Vistisen, a member of the Danish People’s Party, opened his latest speech by saying: “Let me put this in words you might understand. Mr. President, f**k off.” He previously used the same phrase in the chamber shortly after Trump was sworn in for a second term in January 2025.

Trump has long sought American control over Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory with a population of about 56,000 people, claiming the island is critical for opposing the supposed threat posed by Russia and China. Both Moscow and Beijing have dismissed such notions, while Russia has condemned NATO’s accelerated militarization of the Arctic.

His renewed push in recent weeks has caused friction with European NATO partners, who have rejected any change in Greenland’s status and warned that such pressure would violate international law. Denmark has insisted the island’s status is non-negotiable.

According to Vistisen, “the only language Trump understands is direct language and the only rebuttal that Trump understands is a strong word from the EU.” He claimed that instead of sending a firm message, “the EU has given in,” and said he hopes that the bloc would “finally wake up and take action.”

Denmark has deployed troops to Greenland as part of the Arctic Endurance drill launched in response to Trump’s threats, while European politicians have warned that a US attack on a fellow NATO member would destroy the bloc.

Trump previously said he may have to acquire Greenland “the hard way,” and has refused to rule out the use of force. He has also announced 10% tariffs on eight European NATO states for opposing his bid to acquire the island and for sending small military contingents to take part in a Danish-led exercise there.

On Tuesday, Trump posted AI-edited images on his platform Truth Social, one showing an expanded US map that included Canada, Venezuela and Greenland and another depicting him planting an American flag on Greenland, labeled “US territory.”
