Israel is willing to see regional instability.....

The war with Iran has been a strategic disaster for the US, leaving President Donald Trump in a weaker position at home and damaging American credibility, Quincy Institute co-founder Trita Parsi has told RT. He added that the conflict, which he said Israel had pushed for, had not unfolded as Washington expected.

The war, which began with the US-Israeli bombing campaign on Iran on February 28 under the pretext of dismantling Tehran’s nuclear program, has dragged on far longer than Trump’s initial prediction of “two to three weeks.” The attacks have killed dozens of senior officials, including Iran’s longtime supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, as well as more than 1,300 civilians. Iran has responded by striking US bases in Gulf states, saying the strikes are an exercise of its right to self-defense. The crisis has resulted in the de facto closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint handling roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply, triggering an energy crunch.

In an interview on Wednesday, Parsi said Trump is addicted to the “optics of winning rather than actually making sure the deal [with Iran] is secured.” He added that coercive measures such as the US naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz “will only backfire and is really jeopardizing the diplomacy at this stage.”

“This has been a disaster for the United States,” Parsi said. “They have lost a tremendous amount of credibility. The president himself is in a much weaker position at home now.” He added that much of Trump’s base has “turned away and turned off” as the US has become involved in another war clearly under Israeli influence.

US bases in the Gulf have become “a source of insecurity” for host nations rather than providing deterrence, he told RT. Parsi also stated the US and Israel “never had the same goals,” with Israel willing to see regional instability and the US suffered defeats as long as Iran was bombed. Trump believed the war would be over in four days, Parsi said, but had he listened to advisers urging caution, “he would probably not have gone down this path.”

Massive Russian Landing Ship Crosses Caspian Sea - Here's What Drove Off

 

On April 22nd, 2026, a Russian military landing ship crossed the Caspian Sea and docked at Iran's Bandar Anzali port. The Ivan Gren, a Project 11711 amphibious assault vessel designed to deliver heavy armored vehicles onto hostile shores, arrived at 9:18 AM after a 68-hour voyage from Makhachkala.

This was the largest single Russian delivery to Iran since the war began 53 days ago. Satellite imagery captured the ship's bow ramp lowering onto the dock. And over the next four hours, complete military vehicles drove directly off the vessel onto Iranian soil.

Six 2S19 Msta 152mm self-propelled howitzers with 24-kilometer range. This represents complete battalion-level equipment valued at 60 to 80 million dollars. Russia did not send spare parts. Russia sent combat-ready military units.

Up until yesterday, every Russian Caspian Sea delivery consisted of components and ammunition—tank parts on April 17th, communication systems on April 19th. The Ivan Gren changed that calculation. Landing ships deploy heavy vehicles rapidly without port infrastructure. Russia just used that capability to deliver an entire armored battalion.

Iran's existing tank fleet consists primarily of older T-72 variants. The T-90 is a generational improvement. Combined with BMP-3s and artillery, Iran just received the core equipment for combined arms operations. The Caspian Sea is landlocked, bordered by Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan. No Western naval forces operate there.

This is a supply corridor beyond American reach. This follows Chinese container ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, multiple Russian cargo deliveries, Pakistani weapons shipments, and sustained resupply by three nuclear-armed powers. Both sides are being sustained. But Russia is delivering durable assets—tanks operational for years—while the United States burns through consumable interceptors exhausted in days.

Oil is at 112 dollars per barrel. American carriers are in their twelfth week at sea. Public support has collapsed to 22 percent. And a Russian landing ship just delivered an entire armored battalion while America's ability to stop it remains zero.
