feminism vs feminism...

From Annabel Crabb:

...

Tony Abbott, re-entering the chamber at 2.40pm after a 24-hour suspension, blew a lavish kiss to a surprised Jenny Macklin, Minister for Families.

Wilson Tuckey continued his one-man commentary on women in the workplace, a loose series of mutterings tentatively entitled: ''They Just Want a Job on the Weekends When Dad's Home to Look After the Kids.''

To be fair on the Libs, they have been trying.

Malcolm Turnbull launched the ''Engaging Women'' campaign to reach out to Liberal-minded ladies, although this enterprise had an early setback; the chap retained to handle the PR had to be sacked in June after ''engaging women'' rather too directly at the Press Gallery Ball by means of a liquored-up, indiscriminate funbag-grabbing spree.

chick trouble...

THE Liberal Party is having woman trouble.

It all started yesterday morning with the Herald's report that Coalition chicks were not getting their fair share of questions at Question Time.

The Government, with its rash of senior sheilas, made preparations to administer some high-level taunting. And Opposition MPs went to the barricades to defend their feminist record.

They don't let women ask questions...

Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young says yesterday's debate over the role of women in politics might discourage women from considering a parliamentary career.

The Government used yesterday's Question Time to taunt the Opposition for not allowing more Coalition women to ask questions in Parliament.

A Coalition bid to silence Housing Minister Tanya Plibersek backfired, giving her new ammunition to attack the Opposition, who she said were failing to give female MPs a prominent role.

"They don't let women ask questions - its seems now we're not allowed to answer them, either," Ms Plibersek said.

Three of the Government's female Ministers used Question Time to call the Opposition out of touch on women's issues.
