Prime Minister John Howard has announced major changes to strengthen the nation's counterterrorism laws, including the use of tracking devices to monitor the movements of terrorism suspects.
Under the new measures, the Australian Federal Police will be able to seek court orders placing strict conditions on people considered a terrorist risk.
Mr Howard says the orders would be similar to apprehended violence orders but would allow stricter conditions, including tracking devices, and restrictions on where the suspects can travel and who they can associate with.
The orders would be issued for periods of 12 months.
There will also be new laws against inciting violence in the community and against Australian forces overseas.

It's again running similarly to the last Star Wars movie plot?  Remember, when Palpatine thanks the Senate for the emergency (terrorism provoked)powers that he promised to return at the end of the emergency?

 The main difference is that John Howard is not  thinking about giving his new abilities of population control back to the population.  Why would he want to?

The word around the traps is that Johnnee will stay till he breaks the record as the longest serving PM (the worst PM as well, "proud as punch", as in Punch and Judy) and will decide to go in March next year...

... will that make Peter Costello a "March Heir" ?  He'll be madder than one if Howard stays on longer.,

It is believed that if Johnnee doesn't leave once he's broken the record he'll be booted out by his own kind...

Sunday will bring us the 4^th anniversary of 911, where 3,000 people died, & a few weeks later, we’ll re-experience the Bali tragedy that claimed the lives of 202 people, including 88 Australians. 

 

Usama bin Laden, the evil character accused of starting the whole thing, remains at large & these days is blamed for just about every evil act perpetrated by mankind around the planet.

 

Meanwhile, tens of thousands are incarcerated without trial, based on ‘suspicion’; tortured, humiliated & sometimes murdered, but all the time learning to hate & perhaps dreaming of emulating his feats: real or imagined.

 

But other, greater crimes remain unpunished.

 

The ‘leaders’ of the ‘coalition of the willing’, Bush, Blair & Howard, are directly accountable for the trashing of Iraq, including causing the deaths of 30,000 + innocent civilians & the maiming of tens of thousands more.

 

And the outcome of their criminal conspiracy has been the destruction of that secular nation & the likely installation of an Islamic fundamentalist government by the end of the year. Their illegal invasion has resulted in the creation of thousands of new terrorists, all sworn to avenge the injustices visited on them, their families & their country for the past 15 years.

 

The sociopath in the white house has blown US$300 billion & the lives of 2,000 US servicemen to smitherines in pursuing his obscene adventure thus far & now has no avenue of escape, even though the entire world can see that this little emperor has no clothes.

 

But let’s not forget that it was the citizens of Great Britain, Australia & the US who uncaringly returned these evil bastards to office - after their crimes had been revealed.

 

Surely there is a certain irony in the fact that our failure to hold these amoral liars accountable for their actions has resulted in the curtailment of our civil liberties?

You guessed exactly what I was hinting at with the dolls. The problem of terrorism is that the innocent suffer, the psychopath glow and the world is going in circle faster and faster. No one knows, no one can see properly what's what.. True expertise is replaced by "experts" motor mouth who have no clue but an illusion to sell. Proper intellectual understanding and sharp philosophical emulation of the human psyche has been replaced by door to door salesmanship...

If lunatics need to be "contained", it has to be done very quietly and unseen, without fanfare... . The way this government (and the UK and US) are going about it, is unprecedently cumbersome and stupid. It's a bit like cutting your arm off because you have a small wart on a finger...

Osama does not have to do anything forever after...

The CIA once considered producing a toy action figure of Osama bin Laden that would transform into a devil-eyed demon, hoping to persuade children abroad that he was no hero, but a scary villain.

The face of the 30-centimetre doll was painted with a heat-dissolving material designed to peel off, revealing bin Laden to be a demonic monster, with a red face, frightening green eyes and black facial markings, according to the Washington Post.

The 2005 psychological operation, dubbed "Devil Eyes", solicited expert advice from a prominent retired executive from the Hasbro toy company, Donald Levine, who looked into manufacturing the action figure in China.

Three prototypes were created, but the spy agency decided not to go ahead with the project, the CIA said.

"The action figure idea was proposed and rejected by CIA before it got past the prototype stage," spokeswoman KJ Caldwell said.

"To our knowledge, there were only three individual action figures ever created, and these were merely to show what a final product might look like."

Photos of one of the figurines show the doll with a striking resemblance to Darth Maul, the evil character in the 1999 Stars Wars film The Phantom Menace.

The dolls were never manufactured or distributed by the agency and the "CIA has no knowledge of these action figures being produced or distributed by others", she said.

The Washington Post, however, quoting an anonymous source familiar with the project, said hundreds of the action figures were made in a pre-production run in China and then shipped to the Pakistani city of Karachi in 2006.
