by this time he stinketh .....

by this time he stinketh .....

Howard government minister Mal Brough has won Liberal National Party preselection to run for parliamentary Speaker Peter Slipper’s seat of Fisher at the next election.

Mr Brough won the ballot for one of Queensland’s safest conservative federal seats on Sunday afternoon.

He beat seven other contenders, including LNP official and strategist James McGrath, who enjoyed public backing from federal Liberals including Malcolm Turnbull, Jamie Briggs and Simon Birmingham.

Other nominees were Mr Slipper’s former media adviser Richard Bruinsma, Andrew Wallace, Peta Simpson, Graeme Mickelberg, Daniel Purdie and Stephen Ainscough.

Mr Brough has succeeded in his political comeback despite his involvement in the sexual harassment case against Mr Slipper, stood aside as speaker.

He allegedly had extensive contact with the speaker’s then staffer James Ashby before Mr Ashby lodged a sexual harassment case against Mr Slipper.

He was also accused of interfering with a local government election on the Sunshine Coast but has since been cleared by the Queensland’s anti-corruption watchdog and police.Mr Brough lost his seat of Longman in 2007.

Mal Brough Wins Fisher Pre-selection

little “rattus”, johnnie howard, was once dubbed “Lazarus with a triple by-pass” by Paul Keating.

It would seem that Mal Brough is now planning a return from the wilderness, which, of course, explains his efforts to destroy the credibility of sitting member, Peter Slipper.

With faux apologies to “rattus” & Paul Keating, I think the reference to Lazarus sits well with Mal …. to quote Martha, Lazarus’ sister (John 11:39): “Lord, by this time he stinketh …"

mal brough is a liar...

Mr Brough allegedly had extensive contact with Mr Ashby before he brought the case against Mr Slipper.
Mr Brough, a former Howard government minister, spent much of yesterday defending his role in helping formulate the case of sexual harassment and Cabcharge rorting that was lodged against Mr Slipper by Mr Ashby.
Originally, Mr Brough described his knowledge of the case against Mr Slipper as nonsense.

Then he admitted to having three meetings to advise Mr Ashby and subsequently, court documents detail at least another two text messages, two emails and two phone calls.

Memo to Queenslanders: why would you vote for a fellow who has admitted he lied on a very important case? You're idiots if you do... Mal Brough should be send to jail for interfering with the truth about his involvement against a political opponent.

mal brough lied...

FORMER minister Mal Brough, now Liberal National candidate for Fisher, has no regrets about his conduct in the James Ashby affair, saying that if he had his time over, he would do the same again.
Speaking before the ABC's 7.30 went to air with allegations against Mr Ashby, Mr Brough insisted all that he had done was speak to a person — Mr Ashby — who claimed to have been sexually harassed by the Speaker, Peter Slipper.
It would have been "totally improper" for him to turn Mr Ashby away — it "would have been a poor reflection on my values as a human being".

----------------------------------

This morning on the Fran Kelly Liberal breakfast show (ABC RN — used to be Radio National, RIP), Fram and Michelle (who wrote the article above) discussed the affair... One of them said that it made things more complicated for both political parties, in reference to the new allegations of sexual misconduct by Ashby... Well not really... It shows that little Ashby could be more dubious than the angel the Liberals (conservative) painted him.... Both seemed to be sympathetic to Mal Brough's predicament... But when one looks at the detail both women failed to say that Mal fudged his involvement in the case... First by denying he had anything to do with it... They went around the pot to avoid telling us Mal Brough LIED.  He lied... And his involvement is far more than helping someone in trouble... He knows that in politics there are things that one does not do... In his position as Peter Slipper political opposition, he should have passed on this hot potato straight away to someone else (may be he did — to Pyne?)... The conflict of interest is too big not to be ignored. "A poor reflection on his values as a human being?"... Smoke screen of "charitable piety" to hide the fact that he fudged and lied.... and was salivating at the prospect of tumbling Slipper...

Meanwhile at the crooked ballot box:

Peas in a pod

Mal Brough is confident the voters will send him to Canberra (''Brough on road back to Canberra'', July 30). I am confident the people who continually voted for Slipper can vote for Brough.

mal brough is a fraud... the abc is a fraud...

This whole affair does not look good for Mal Brough and may affect his political prospects — or maybe not. If we cast our minds back to 2006, Mr Brough was caught up in a similar caper but miraculously made it through; but not on his own — he had help from the ABC.

In 2006, when Mal Brough was Minister for Indigenous Affairs in the Howard Government, he went on Lateline on May 16th and made the brazen claim that paedophilia was rife in Aboriginal communities and that

Everybody in those communities knows who runs the paedophile rings.

Consequently, the accusation caused a stir and Brough was challenged to provide evidence to back up the statement — which he never did. Five weeks later after Lateline apparently receiving many calls and tip offs that supported Brough’s claim, they pursued the story further and landed an exclusive interview with a former “youth worker” who witnessed such crimes in an Aboriginal community. Later it was found out the so-called “youth worker”, who’s name and identity was concealed in the interview, was actually Gregory Andrews, a senior bureaucrat in then Minister Brough’s own Department.

The shocking revelation was uncovered through leaked documentation from the Department that found it’s way to the National Indigenous Times. The Editor, Chris Graham, ran hard on the story and hounded Lateline over its sloppy journalism and stubbornness in admitting its story was a fraud.
