the art of waitering, bartending and waitressing...

waiter!...

In an interview with People magazine published on Wednesday, Mr Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, said that before moving into the White House nearly six years ago, they faced prejudice, stereotyping and had trouble catching taxis.

"There is no black male my age, who's a professional, who hasn't come out of a restaurant and is waiting for their car and somebody didn't hand them their car keys," Mr Obama told the magazine, adding that this had happened to him.

Mrs Obama recounted another incident at a gala dinner when someone asked Mr Obama, who was dressed in a tuxedo, to get him coffee.

Another unfortunate such mix up when Val Jar (a "coloured" aide to Obama — often referred to by republican websites as Mrs President because she supposedly is the one one who makes all the Presidential decisions) asked a 4-Star General for a drink at a black-tie function...

Unfortunately, Should GOD be the guest of honour at a party, she would be asked to be a servant for being black... Mistakes are being made when guests at an official piss up, whether Democratic, Republican or in Doodhaville, get well pickled or get into the spirit of joyfulness. But then sometimes an eaves dropping bartender can trump a President's decision to go to war...

Here we have stories being told about when Obama at an offical function was mistaken for a waiter... Similarly, a four-star general was mistaken for a bartender by one of Obama's aide at another piss-up. No point giving links to some of the most rabid COnservative websites on the planet...

Tuxedoes are the weaponised uniform of generals, presidents, bartenders and professional waiters... It gives bartenders the authority to mix drinks, serve cocktails with a snooty nose and plonk a plate of consommé in front of you with the discreet quiet disdain demanded by their position. They know the value of haughtiness. They know that the Countess is having her bit on the side when the Count is hunting foxes.

When I went to Spain many years ago, the dusty high class glorious restaurants had lost some of their glossy gold and the waiters tux were pretty worn out on the edges — having survived two world wars and still brushed up morning and night, never dry-cleaned — to serve under the Franco dictatorship. The greasy hair of the attendant was to stop it from falling into the tucker I believed, but it could have been possible that the waiter was a retired honoured matador who was still dreaming of his past successes against big bulls, of which he now serves "pene y bolas" as tapas, way after midnight in a seedy bar down town — moonlighting till dawn to pay for his next tuxedo...

This is where the bartender legend or reality of Johnny Prokov comes in. While polishing glasses behind the bar, Prokov heard a couple of journalists, Warren Rogers and Robert Donovan, discussing President Kennedy oncoming preparations to invade Cuba in 1963. Since no one in the Kremlin knew Kennedy's intentions, they were surprised to hear this from a Soviet spy, Anatoly Gorsky, who was told by Prokov what he had heard...

In order to confirm what he had been told by Prokov, Gorsky got an official at the Soviet Embassy to "meet" with one of the Journalists, Warren Rogers, who "confirmed the story"... Gorsky then confirmed to Moscow the intention of president Kennedy and Khrushchev, slightly pissed off, wrote a personal letter to Kennedy to "make a deal" No US invasion of Cuba and the Soviets would remove the missiles... This was the basis from which the situation was defused... As well Kennedy removed ballistic missiles parked in Europe and aimed at Russia...

See, It could be gracious for a four-star general and for Barak Obama to serve a stirred (not shaken) Martini and demand to the rest of the crowd present if they wanted one as well... They might have been able to eaves drop and hear what the true conversation was about — who was bonking whom in the room or who was about to start an accidental nuclear war, outside in the cold...

It is also possible that the "revelations" were part of a double-cross well executed...

caption contest...

If you can be bothered, please send your ideas for caption to the cartoon at top. It could be fun... NO prizes.

Special Report: The rapid expansion of America’s right-wing media began in the 1980s as the Reagan administration coordinated foreign policy initiatives with conservative media executives, including Rupert Murdoch, and then cleared away regulatory hurdles, reports Robert Parry.

By Robert Parry

The Reagan administration pulled right-wing media executives Rupert Murdoch and Richard Mellon Scaife into a CIA-organized “perception management” operation which aimed Cold War-style propaganda at the American people in the 1980s, according to declassified U.S. government records.

Although some records relating to Murdoch remain classified, several documents that have been released indicate that he and billionaire Scaife were considered sources of financial and other support for President Ronald Reagan’s hard-line Central American policies, including the CIA’s covert war in Nicaragua.

Beginning in the late 1990s with George HW Bush, the Smithsonian has collected presidential portraits for posterity. Keeping with tradition, the Obamas recently added theirs to the exhibit during a Monday reveal which also highlighted the artists, Amy Sherald and Kehinde Wiley.

While the paintings represented firsts all around, vocal netizens did not hold their tongues when questioning their aesthetic quality.

Despite both Michelle and Barack's admiration of the paintings, it was widely pointed out that Michelle's portrait does not even resemble the former first lady. In addition, many also found Barack's garden backdrop to be an odd representation of the 44th president's legacy.

These two portraits were damn awful, that one wonders if George W Bush could have done better?
