the next battle -- gus makes a wild prediction...

presidencypresidency

Note: since writing this article, Trump has strengthened his grip on the 2020 election and he won't be impeached. Thus this has displace the prediction above to 2024... Who knows...

More note: the Ukrainian/Trump affair is yet another distraction in the gamut of weapons the Dems have against him. Some of his GOP colleagues do not understand the game being played. Meanwhile, no documents from the White House, no impeachment possible on this issue. The White House can tell the Impeachment inquiry to go and suck eggs till the sky falls off...

More more note: As the selective DNC process is likely to pick dithering Biden as Presidential candidate and possibly Hillary as VP, these wild predictions are BACK ON THE TABLE.

More more more note: Biden is the DNC candidate and Senator Kamala Harris of California as his running mate...

Ivanka Trump is a smart cookie. She is possibly smarter than her mad loose-pants dad. She has been groomed and is grooming herself for better things to come. Some bad souls would suggest she is a dumb kid who got lucky.

Most people could buy this since we’re dumber -- and not as lucky as she is. In Australia, it is customary (and de rigour) to denigrate achievers, especially those with rich fathers. Young tall poppies give us the shits. So we don’t pay attention to the details and denigrate. This makes us feel democratic and equalitarian. All young kids should be as dumb as we were when we were... How old is Ivanka now? Sixteen? Thirty-three. Blimey... How time passes... She is married, has three kids, speaks a few languages including Czech, has become a Jew and is a successful business woman. She used to be the assistant to her dad in “The Apprentice” series and she can talk quietly under water. She is the sort of woman who can attract the “millennials” and ambitious young people. She is a Princess without a kingdom, but rules over a small business empire.

Some nasty stores decided to stop stocking her clothe lines when her dad got the gig as President, “not as a protest, but her clothes stopped selling”. After a bit of a public blarney, her clothes were soon selling better than ever before. No Goop here. All high end stuff including perfume and shoes. This is what makes America great: opportunity and seizing the moment. Carpe diem. Now Ivanka is employed as an advisor to her dad’s gig which is to steer the world towards uncharted waters and darker muck. She is not an apprentice, but a heir in waiting with a sharper mind than daddy, from whom she learnt the tricks of the trade but uses lipstick instead of pouted tweets.

On the other side of the ledger, the other woman could be THAT old woman again or her daughter. That old woman will be older but not wiser than she was previously.

The trend is simple: it’s the glorification of opportunity into opportunism. The number of people who come to this church of cash is increasing, soon toppling the number of those who struggle with no hope. Democracy is becoming the opportunocracy -- with a bit of charitable care or bombs (depending on your creed), like throwing crumbs to pigeons to manage the malcontent of the educated principled honest environmentalistic few.

Here the battle is about personality. Ivanka can run rings around Hillary or her daughter, Chelsea. The Democrats, other glorifiers of opportunism with more crumbs to throw out of their straw hearts but with less savviness and more cunning, will lose again -- unless they have a trump card up their sleeve... And this is the case of our next instalment: the rise of Artificial Intelligence or Bart versus Bender... (the battle after that -- gus makes another wild prediction...)

Democrats scrambled to regroup on Wednesday after a disappointing special election defeat in Georgia, with lawmakers, activists and labor leaders speaking out in public and private to demand a more forceful economic message heading into the 2018 elections.

Among Democrats in Washington, the setback in Georgia revived or deepened a host of existing grievances about the party, accentuating tensions between moderate lawmakers and liberal activists and prompting some Democrats to question the leadership and political strategy of Nancy Pelosi, the House minority leader.

But the overarching theme among Democrats was a sense of sharp urgency about crafting a positive agenda around kitchen-table issues. Congressional Democrats have already been meeting in private to shape a core list of economic policies, but their work did not reach any conclusive point during a long season of special elections.

“The Democratic caucus is united in our view that our message, heading into 2018, should be aggressively focused on job creation and economic growth,” Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York, a member of the Democratic leadership team, said on Wednesday morning.

rubio goes for a failed hug with the next president...

Ivanka Trump’s ramrod posture and the ungainly movements of a Republican senator were all it took to distract the public from a government meeting on Wednesday about paid family leave.

The Florida senator Marco Rubio appeared to fail in an attempt to hug the president’s daughter before the meeting, creating an awkward image that adds to Rubio’s enduring collection of physical gaffes. He has also accidentally hit a child with a football and clumsily drunk water in a live speech broadcast to the nation.

Those moments required significant clean-up from Rubio’s press team, but he had an ally on Wednesday as he and Trump laughed off the awkward incident in nine tweets following the incident.

In the tweets, they exchanged banter about the hug being investigated by the Senate intelligence committee, which is expected to meet with Trump’s husband, Jared Kushner, this month as Congress investigates her father’s administration’s ties to Russia.

A special election in Atlanta, Georgia is the latest election victory for President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

Mr Trump promised he would win so much, his side would be sick of it — but after the latest win, he was quick to rub his opponents' noses in the smell of defeat.

The loss came despite Democrats spending $US30 million ($39.6 million) — the GOP also spent big — trying to take advantage of the Trump administration's rocky start to steal the traditionally Republican seat.

Let's say that there is nothing wrong with "ties with Russia". And this is what bothers the idiots in the MSM (MMMM). These supposed "ties with Russia" do not contravene anything -- nor do they indicate that Russia interfered with the US Presidential election. It did not.

Instead of wasting energy on trying to prove The Donald's bluff, why not spend time to present better democratic universal policies? Ah I see... The Democratic Party so far has similar policies to The Donald's, with a different wrapper and possibly more war oriented than Donald's...

an earth shattering new republican policy...

The United States is the only industrialized country that does not guarantee workers paid family leave, in part because of Republican resistance to providing federal funding for such a program.

Trump has proposed addressing this with a plan to offer six weeks of mandatory paid leave for mothers and fathers, marking a possible shift in typical Republican policy.

of frocks, birthdays and picnics...

Ivanka Trump looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder floral dress at a picnic on the South Lawn of the White House Thursday.

The mom of three's frock is getting tons of reaction on social media, with some saying her shoulder baring dress was "inappropriate."The first daughter socialized with members of congress and their families but also took time to enjoy her own family by swinging and spinning 5-year-old daughter, Arabella.

“Ivanka is half naked,” said one critic.

Another commented that the dress "belongs on a date night with your husband."

But others loved the outfit, calling it “amazing” and “beautiful.”

The dress retails for $198 and it is called the “Marina Dress.” It is made by eco-friendly fashion label Reformation.

Ivanka Trump's dress is from last year's line and is no longer available in stores.

Also at the picnic was first lady Melania Trump, who wore a sleeveless dress while greeting babies at the event.

“We are enjoying it very much,” she told Fox & Friends about her new life at the White House.

She added that Barron is “all settled” and “loves it here.”

"I'm so busy and we are doing so many great stuff," she said. "So, it's really special place. I love it here."

US democrats delusions

“The Democratic establishment has vortexed the party’s narrative energy into hysteria about Russia,”he wrote, calling the rhetoric a “political dead end.”

“Despite vast resources, enormous incentives and a year of investigation, Democratic senators who have seen the classified intelligence at the CIA such as Senator Feinstein (as recently as March) are forced to admit that there is no evidence of collusion,” he wrote.

The WikiLeaks founder went on to address other issues he believes are leading to the party’s demise, including the collapse of the Democratic vote over the past eight years, which he says has occurred at all levels – city, state, congressional, and presidential.

“This short-term tactic has led to the inevitable strategic catastrophe of the white and male super majorities responding by seeing themselves as an unserviced political identity group,” he wrote, noting that Trump received the votes of 63 percent of white men and 53 percent of white women.

Assange also listed the many shortcomings of the Trump administration, including “broken promises, inequality, economy, healthcare, militarization,” saying the Democrat party can’t really address those issues, either, because“all its energy and it is entangled with many of the same groups behind Trump’s policies.”

The 45-year-old went on to say that the Democratic party has integrated itself with the “security sector and media barons,” which leads to the perception that Democrats “act on behalf of an entrenched power elite.”

“The Democratic base should move to start a new party since the party elite shows no signs that they will give up power,” he wrote.

Assange tweeted the six points from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has been holed up for the past five years.

Although Sweden dropped an investigation into Assange’s sexual assault allegations last month, he has remained in the embassy to avoid being extradited to the United States. WikiLeaks published 391,832 classified documents relating to the war in Iraq in 2010, the biggest leak of its kind in military history.

not a political animal, yet...

Seeking to justify what many consider to be undue family influence on the world’s most powerful military and economic entity, Ivanka Trump, daughter to US President Donald Trump, has asserted that she is not involved in the governing of America.

Speaking on Fox & Friends, a television talk show that is consistently sympathetic to her family, Special Assistant to the President Ivanka Trump claimed that she was making attempts to stay away from the inner workings of her father's administration, according to a report by the Guardian.

"I try to stay out of politics," she stated during the program, although many have pointed out that her continual proximity to her father and his advisors — although in an unpaid position — indicates the value that those currently in power place upon her consistent presence.

In a nod to the luck of the draw she has experienced Trump asserted that, "I feel blessed just being part of the ride from day one."

"I don't profess to be a political savant."

Her public praise for her father and his administration remained on point during the interview, however.

In gushing that President Trump's "political instincts are phenomenal," and declaring that "he did something that no one could have imagined he'd be able to accomplish," she kept on message, avoiding any direct response to claims of nepotism and undue influence in the White House.

In spite of her protestations of non-involvement, first daughter Trump is considered a trusted, although unofficial, advisor to her father, quickly moving to Washington with her husband, Jared Kushner, also one of the president's close advisers, following the January inauguration.

advice and information...

Ivanka Trump’s office: clean, white, quiet. A zone of punctual start times and promptly-offered water bottles, and a conference table at which she conducts meetings. A short, winding walk away from her father’s Oval Office downstairs.

She does not necessarily appreciate daily schedules. Neither does her father. When Ivanka needs to see the president, she stops by. When he needs to see her, he calls. When he wants her opinion, he asks for it and she gives it, but without expectation that it will be followed.

She sees her role as not to persuade, but to inform and support: That much is clear to White House staffers and friends who have observed the first daughter’s early months in the White House. Anyone who has invested in her the ability to change her father clearly doesn’t understand the dynamic that has always governed their relationship and also the dynamic of a president and his staff. After all, she works for him.

“The people are different. The decisions are different and the office is different,” Ivanka, an assistant to the president, said in a recent extended interview in her office, one of the few she’s granted. “But he is the same person and I am the same person. And we interact in the same way as we always have.”

is gus sowing bad ideas?...

US President Donald Trump has defended his daughter, White House adviser Ivanka Trump, after she raised some eyebrows over the weekend by taking his place at a table with world leaders at a G20 meeting.

Key points:
  • Trump says Hillary Clinton would have been cheered had she done the same
  • Chelsea Clinton said her parents would never have asked such a favour, asked if Trump was giving away America
  • Observers differ over significance of move

Ms Trump briefly sat in her father's chair at the global gathering in Hamburg during a closed-door session on African development as the World Bank president spoke.

Her appearance prompted a string of criticisms and reactions on Twitter and caught the attention of the international media.

Early on Monday, President Trump called the arrangement "very standard" in a tweet where he also noted that German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was hosting the G20 summit, agreed.

"When I left Conference Room for short meetings with Japan and other countries, I asked Ivanka to hold seat. Very standard. Angela M agrees!" he wrote.

In a follow-up tweet, he singled out former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and her daughter Chelsea, alleging the media would have cheered had Mrs Clinton done the same.

"If Chelsea Clinton were asked to hold the seat for her mother, as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!""

Chelsea Clinton was quick to respond to the tweet, saying that her parents would never have asked while wondering why Mr Trump suggested anyone was "giving the country away".

Sanders was viewed much more favorably among respondents than Trump and easily squashed establishment politicians — including Paul Ryan, Nancy Pelosi, and Mitch McConnell — who all ranked lower than Trump in terms of net favorability.

BALTIMORE — African-American activists have a message for Democrats: If you want to win back the White House, strongly consider a black person on the ticket.

the good looks...

A New York plastic surgeon says that since the 2016 Republican primaries, he has seen a deluge of patients who want to look like Ivanka Trump.

Dr. Norman Rowe says that since last summer, up to 50 clients have asked him to give them the Ivanka look — which he describes as widened cheekbones, a slender nose and large eyes.

Dr. Rowe says that patients can spend between $30-40,000 to achieve the look with temporary fillers and Botox, or $45-50,000 for what he calls the “Permanent Ivanka” — a version achieved with cheek implants and rhinoplasty. “I never saw [anyone drawing inspiration from Ivanka’s face] before the primary,” said Rowe, “since the summer of ’16 . . . [it’s been] maybe four a month; one a week.”

Rowe says that Donald Trump’s oldest daughter now rivals Kylie Jenner as the most sought-after celebrity face.

“Maybe they just like the look, but also that [Ivanka’s] a powerful woman, self-confident, part of the first family. Do they want to be her? Yes, deep down, maybe.”

The cosmetic surgeon says that New Yorkers’ left-leaning tendencies don’t seem to put them off.

I have anticipated the move... In my toon at top, you will notice that Chelsea Clinton looks like Ivanka with bucked teeth...

we've known for quite a while...

The publication on Wednesday of excerpts from a new book on the Trump administration, first by the Guardian and then by New York magazine, brought to light a host of explosive reports of internecine fighting and organisational chaos at the heart of the US presidency.

Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, by the former Guardian columnist and Rupert Murdoch biographer Michael Wolff, will be published in full next Tuesday. In December he told the Guardian that in his approach to researching the book he had been “not particularly hostile”.

“That allowed me to get them to be relatively open,” he said.

Here are some other highlights:

The president’s daughter and son-in-law, Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, reportedly made a deal about which of them would one day run for president. Wolff writes: “The first woman president, Ivanka entertained, would not be Hillary Clinton; it would be Ivanka Trump.”

smarter than her genius daddy...

While I would love to think that Ivanka’s future might consist of Volvos and orange jumpsuits rather than Air Force One and the White House, I’m not so sure that will be the case. Indeed, I think the First Daughter is probably right: if there is going to be a female president of the US anytime soon, it will be Ivanka Trump. One could even argue that Ivanka is already the first female president of America. Since entering the White House in a capacity no one seems to really understand, Ivanka has made herself a fixture on the world stage. She sat in at the G20, for example, discussing African migration with the Chinese, Russian and Turkish presidents, German chancellor and Theresa May. She travelled to India to co-host a Global Entrepreneurship Summit alongside Indian prime minister Narendra Modi. She launched a fund for female entrepreneurs with the World Bank. She is basically a part-time president and now she seems to be vying for the full-time gig.

Ivanka may project a saccharine-sweet image –the doting daughter, nurturing mother, and loving wife – but she has proved herself to be more than a little ruthless when it comes to furthering her ambitions and ensuring that her brand is not tarnished by her father’s actions. Wolff’s book reports that Steve Bannon accused Ivanka, who he nicknamed “the queen of leaks”, of routinely leaking information from the White House to make herself and Jared look good. This would certainly seem to be the case. Every time Trump does something which might hurt his daughter’s reputation among the New York liberals from her social set, reports in the media from mysterious sources suddenly appear, detailing how Ivanka and Jared are valiantly working day and night to make things right. It was widely reported last year, for example, that Javanka were instrumental in stopping Trump from overturning an Obama-era order that protected LGBT rights in the workplace.

"She invited us to stop over," Johnnie Moore, an evangelical public relations professional who plays a major role in leading evangelical engagement with the Trump administration, said of Ivanka in an interview with The Christian Post Friday.

US President Donald Trump has called for comedian Samantha Bee to be fired after she made a crude remark about his daughter Ivanka Trump on her television show.

Key points:
  • Samantha Bee has since apologised for the comment
  • She made the comment while discussing controversial immigration policies
  • Ivanka Trump has also recently come under fire for tweeting an affectionate family photo as news circulated US immigration agents were separating families

Mr Trump tweeted that it was a "total double standard" that US television station TBS had not cancelled Bee's show, Full Frontal, after the comedian said Ms Trump was a "feckless c***" on controversial immigration policies.

Ms Trump herself caused a stir last week when she tweeted a picture cuddling her young son in the wake of widespread reports US immigration agents were separating children from their parents.

The President appeared to be referring to a decision by ABC America to cancel Roseanne Barr's show, a favourite among conservatives, after Barr jokingly compared a former White House aide in the Obama administration who is African-American to an ape.

not so full-frontal...

Samantha Bee apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c–t” on her show “Full Frontal” Wednesday night — while adding that everyone should “worry a little bit more about the niceness of our actions.”

“A lot of people were offended and angry I used an epithet to describe the president’s daughter and adviser last week,” Bee said on her first show since the controversy.

“It is a word I have used on the show many times, hoping to reclaim it. This time I used it as an insult. I crossed the line, I regret it and I do apologize for that.”

Bee continued to explain that while she has tried “reclaim” the word many women have heard the word at the “worst moments of their lives.”

“A lot of them don’t want that word reclaimed. They want it gone. And, I don’t blame them,” she said. “I don’t want to inflict more pain on them.”

The comedian said she regretted that she allowed the discussion to center around her obscene word instead of the immigration policy she was attempting to highlight.

“I would do anything to help those kids. I hate that this distracted from them,” Bee said. “So, to them I am also sorry.”

Bee concluded her statement by trying to shift the debate over words toward a more substantive debate about people’s behavior.

“I’m really sorry that I said that word. But, you know what? Civility is just nice words, may we should all worry little bit more about the niceness of our actions,” she said.

Ousted Trump aide Omarosa Manigault Newman claims that she recorded a conversation with first daughter Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner, both of whom are top advisers to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Politico reported that Manigault Newman, a former contestant on Trump’s “Apprentice” reality show, told friends that she had taped a call she received from the Jewish power couple after her firing by Chief of Staff John Kelly late last year in which they wished her well and denied knowing that she was slated for termination.

According to Politico, the call may show that Kushner and Trump are out of the loop on personnel issues, possibly indicating waning influence in the West Wing. In February, Kushner had his security clearance downgraded from top secret to secret. He was among a number of White House staffers lacking permanent security clearance to have their status downgraded.

The trump camp would have known about all this crap (at least suspect it) and may have let Omarosa spy on their caper for fun... In the end, the shoe fits. Manigault's "breach of secrecy" actually devalues the effort of "employing black people" in the White House... In the long run, she would have made far more damage to "black Lives Matter" than Trump could do by "allegedly" use the N word... But she won't see that.

Ivanka Trump doing the Hoovering is not a sight one sees every day. However, if you happen to be in Washington DC this month, you can watch a lookalike of the first daughter cleaning, in stilettos, for two hours every night at the Flashpoint gallery.

Ivanka Vacuuming, a new performance art piece by Jennifer Rubell, invites visitors to “throw crumbs on to the carpet, watching as Ivanka elegantly vacuums up the mess, her smile never wavering”.

It seems likely a few smiles wavered inside the White House when the Trump family learned about Rubell’s work. On Tuesday morning, Ivanka tweeted a link to an article about the performance piece and said: “Women can choose to knock each other down or build each other up. I choose the latter.” Donald Trump Jr, meanwhile, chose to respond to Ivanka Vacuming with more acerbic language. “Sad, but not surprising to watch self professed ‘feminists’ launching sexist attacks against @IvankaTrump,” he tweeted. “In their crazed world, sexism is OK if hurts their political enemies [sic].”

grooming ivanka — beauty and the beast...

I got my dates wrong. Trump is running for 2020. So it's only in 2024 that Ivanka will be in the race for the US presidency. She is being groomed — she is intelligent. She appears in many of the Donald's events — see the picture in :

Meanwhile:

US President Donald Trump has been widely criticised for feeding the political ambitions of his daughter Ivanka; the former businesswoman and current presidential adviser has been increasingly involved in the country's policy-making.

Donald Trump has once again demonstrated his fondness for nicknames, by comparing his beloved daughter Ivanka and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to characters from the well-known fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast".

"Mike, come up here Mike. And you know who else we have here? Has anyone ever heard of Ivanka? Alright come up Ivanka. Come on. She's going to steal the show. What a beautiful couple — Mike — Beauty and the Beast", he said as he introduced them while addressing a gathering of Air Force personnel at Osan Air Base in Pyeongtaek, South Korea.

President Ivanka? Sure. Not in 2020, but in 2024... Unless...

they are afraid she might succeed in 2024...

Freshman US Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took aim at the White House advisor over a viral video of POTUS's daughter mingling among the world leaders at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan. The 29-year-old Democrat suggested she was out of place rubbing shoulders with people in power there.

Although the former White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, left her post a couple of days ago, she does not seem ready to part with her habits. Guarding the interests of the US President and his Administration, Sanders weighed in on the uproar over Ivanka Trump’s participating in the G20 summit. She lambasted one of the most vocal critics, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who blasted the US president for taking his daughter to the grand gathering and called Ivanka Trump’s qualifications into question.

The former White House representative accused Ocasio-Cortez of destroying jobs in New York, in a not to her pushback on the e-commerce and entertainment giant Amazon’s plans to build part of its headquarters there over claims that the company’s public input was insufficient and the deal was too secretive.

“Donald Trump and Ivanka Trump actually created millions of new jobs and continue to make the US stronger on the global stage but thank you for reminding Americans every day why they elected Trump,” Sanders noted.

Although Ivanka Trump and her father’s decision to take her to the G20 summit in Japan made headlines late last week, critics tore into them in particular due to a now-viral video, which was originally released by the French Presidential palace and featured her attempting to mingle at the G20 meeting and join a conversation between the UK’s outgoing premier Theresa May, French President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and IMF head Christine Lagarde.

The four can be seen actively taking part in a lively discussion during a break and seem to snub her while Ivanka is trying to offer her opinions. Lagarde was caught flashing a chilly glance that caused ridicule from the public.

The congresswoman commented on the footage on Twitter, saying “It hurts our diplomatic standing when the President phones it in and the world moves on.”

“The US needs our President working the G20. Bringing a qualified diplomat couldn’t hurt either,” the New York congresswoman tweeted.

Her rant left the netizens split, prompting debates on her own background. British TV star Piers Morgan was among those who challenged AOC on Twitter over her being fit for the job, noting that she jumped to the US congresswoman’s chair from behind the bar.

“Could be worse... Ivanka could have been a bartender 18 months ago,” he noted sarcastically.

Ivanka, the daughter as wife substitute, travels the world talking about the empowerment of women. I think this means earrings. That her fembot ways enable her father to embolden those who will strip women of their rights is disarming, but not new. Thuggish men have always used women to soften their images. Asma al-Assad, anyone? What Ivanka does for the Trump regime is branding. Product placement. She is both product and placement and no one knows quite how to deal with it. World leaders may look awkward when she is placed in the middle of photographs, but they are complicit in allowing this to happen.

Indeed, many of them understand only too well how all this works. Narendra Modi, Vladimir Putin and the Saudis especially.

apologies for telling the truth...

Britain has expressed regret over the leak of confidential memos in which its ambassador described US President Donald Trump's administration as "dysfunctional" and "inept".

Key points:
  • The British Government has expressed regret over leaked diplomatic memos
  • The memos date from 2017 to the present, and allege White House dysfunction
  • Trade Minister Liam Fox, who is visiting Washington, will apologise to Ivanka Trump

Trade Minister Liam Fox, who is visiting Washington, told BBC radio he would apologise to Mr Trump's daughter Ivanka, whom he is due to meet.

"I will be apologising for the fact that either our civil service or elements of our political class have not lived up to the expectations that either we have or the United States has about their behaviour, which in this particular case has lapsed in a most extraordinary and unacceptable way," he said.

"Malicious leaks of this nature ... can actually lead to a damage to that relationship, which can therefore affect our wider security interest."

The memos from Sir Kim Darroch, ambassador to Washington, were divulged to a Sunday newspaper, annoying Mr Trump and embarrassing London.

"Contact has been made with the Trump administration, setting out our view that we believe the leak is unacceptable," Prime Minister Theresa May's spokesman told reporters.

send him to australia to do the same job...

“The scandal surrounding the reporting from British ambassador Kim Darroch in Washington is not that he was sending home his unvarnished analysis,” Peter Ricketts, a former British ambassador to France, observed in The Guardian. “It’s that someone inside the British system deliberately amassed a stash of his assessments, then chose the moment of maximum impact to leak it. This was not a spontaneous decision to make public a single document: it required premeditation and therefore an agenda.”

Speculation as to what that agenda might have been was fueled by the fact that the collection of confidential memos from Darroch to senior officials in London was turned over to Isabel Oakeshott, a pro-Brexit journalist who is known to be close to Nigel Farage and his most important financial backer, Arron Banks.

London has said there is no evidence that a foreign state was behind the recent leaks from its embassy in Washington, but this hasn’t stopped British officials from quietly feeding tabloid narratives blaming Russia for the affair.

The UK government is in full damage-control mode after a series of memos penned by the UK ambassador to Washington, Sir Kim Darroch, were leaked to the press. The diplomatic cables described US President Donald Trump as “incompetent.”

While British officials appear to believe that the embarrassing leaks were carried out by an “unpatriotic”insider, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt didn’t seem to mind playing along with tabloid speculation that Russia is somehow at fault.

Pressed by the Sun about whether he believed “hostile states such as Russia” may be behind the leaks, Hunt was all too happy to quietly fan the flames – even while acknowledging that there was no reason to suspect that Russia or any other country played a part in the incident.

grooming another clinton...

As an impeachment inquiry into President Trump’s actions on Ukraine begins, Hillary Clinton says that it appears "that there is evidence of abuse of power and obstruction of justice and contempt of Congress." The former secretary of state and daughter Chelsea sit down with Judy Woodruff to discuss the decision to withdraw troops from Syria, Trump's tweet attacks, and their new book, “Gutsy Women.”

Read the Full Transcript
  • Judy Woodruff:

They are a family that has captured the American political spotlight for decades.

Now former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, are out with a new book, "Gutsy Women."

We will discuss that in a moment, but when I sat down with the two earlier today in New York City, I began by asking Secretary Clinton about today's developments in the impeachment inquiry, if the Trump administration has the authority to block the American ambassador to the European Union, Gordon Sondland, from speaking with Congress.

  • Hillary Clinton:

    I don't believe they do.

I think that there's quite a bit of precedent in legal decisions that the Congress has an inherent power to seek evidence from witnesses with respect to their investigations and, most particularly, an impeachment inquiry.

I understand that the Trump administration doesn't want people talking to the Congress. But I recall, Judy, that back in the Nixon impeachment, one of the articles of impeachment against President Nixon was his contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

So I think they can slow-walk it. They can try to block it. There's already enough evidence about what former Ambassador Sondland was saying about the effort to threaten and extort the president of Ukraine through text messages and e-mails, that, certainly, the House can go on that.

But I also think that, at some point, there needs to be a reinforcement of the legal precedent that the administration must cooperate.

  • Judy Woodruff:

You have said that the impeachment process should go forward.

  • Hillary Clinton:

    Mm-hmm.

  • Judy Woodruff:

You have also said that you think what happened in that phone call, where President Trump was asking the leader of Ukraine, in effect, to investigate Joe Biden and his son, implicitly in return for receiving U.S. military aid — why not just go ahead and say whether or not you favor impeaching the president?

  • Hillary Clinton:

Well, because I served on an impeachment inquiry staff as a young lawyer back in 1974, I think it is really important to respect the process and to support the opening of the inquiry, which I do, and the gathering of evidence, and then the weighing of that evidence.

From my perspective, it appears as though what the House is doing is very much in line with the appropriate use of the impeachment power. So, I — they don't want to jump to a conclusion.

It appears to me that there is evidence of abuse of power and obstruction of justice and contempt of Congress. But we do want the House impeachment inquiry to proceed in a way that tries to build credibility with the American people and also with Republican members of the House and the Senate.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Well, can you think of a non-impeachable interpretation or a benign interpretation of what that call was about?

  • Hillary Clinton:

    No. No.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Well, I also want to ask you, because you're the former secretary of state, what about the role of Secretary Pompeo, being on that call at the time?

  • Hillary Clinton:

Well, he, first of all, didn't admit that he had been on the call. Eventually, he did.

And there were a number of people on the call. Part of the telling evidence in this case is that, immediately after the call, the people who were either listening in or listening to Trump's end of the call knew that they had problems, which is why they tried to basically conceal the call within a highly classified system.

So, Pompeo was in on it. He knew from the beginning that this was a problem. It's really a shame that he has substituted the defense of Trump for the defense of diplomacy, the defense of our country, literally doing the job that a secretary of state should do.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Former Vice President Joe Biden, clearly a part of this, his name came up during that call.

Whether he did or didn't do anything wrong — and there's no proof that he did — President Trump keeps bringing that up — is there an optical problem for Joe Biden, because his son was in a position to be making a lot of money from a company in — that was in a foreign country?

  • Hillary Clinton:

You know, Judy, this is the goal of the Trump strategy. It is to raise questions.

There is no evidence that either one of them did anything wrong. Could there be a question of judgment about his son? Well, that's fair game.

But there is absolutely no evidence, and there will not be any evidence, that Joe Biden did anything wrong. Enough with these wild, unfounded conspiracy theories, using the help of foreign governments to interfere in our elections and to undermine people who have been in the public eye for a long time.

And I hope that the American public rejects this, as they should.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Secretary Clinton, as I'm sure you know, there are plenty of Republicans and even some Democrats who are saying, despite all this, that it is crazy to be pursuing impeachment, because whatever the House does, there just are not going to be enough votes in the Senate.

  • Hillary Clinton:

I understand that argument, but I don't buy it.

And the reason I don't buy it is that the founders put impeachment into the Constitution for a purpose. It was put there for a purpose, and I think Speaker Pelosi has been very careful not to rush to that.

There were many things that came up, you know, obstruction of justice, as outlined in the Mueller report, emoluments, all of these things that were circling around.

But I think she rightly waited for something that not only was understandable by the American public, but really went to the heart of our national security, of the role of the president, to protect and defend the American people and the Constitution.

So, yes, will there be a decision? Well, that's up to the House. But I recall, back in '74, the full vote never went to the House. The House committee voted to impeach Richard Nixon.

And, at that point, after the evidence had been presented, after several Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted for the articles of impeachment, Republican senators went to Richard Nixon and said, you need to resign.

So we don't know, sitting here today, what the outcome will be. Unfortunately, I don't know that we have Republicans with the same level of patriotism, putting country over party, that we did back in '74. But we don't want to prejudge that.

  • Judy Woodruff:

You have both through impeachment in your own family, President Clinton.

How is this time different from what President Clinton went through?

  • Hillary Clinton:

This is a much more serious set of charges than anything that was ever put forward against Bill. And I think the American people got that. This is a very different time.

And, as a former secretary of state, I just want Americans to stop and think, why are we allowing this president to, in effect, undermine our sovereignty, turning over foreign policy to foreign governments, what he just did with the Kurds, empowering Turkey and Russia against our staunchest allies in the Middle East?

Why are we sitting silently by and watching this president do Vladimir Putin's bidding? I mean, there is no happier man in the world right now than Putin.

Why are we watching this unfortunate trade battle with China now being infected with his plea that China investigate Biden? This is no longer just about the crazy stuff he says and does that everybody shrugs at or worries about. This is a direct threat to the national security of America.

And I think that's what has gotten people's attention. So, certainly among Democrats, but now increasingly among self-identified independents, and even growing numbers of Republicans are saying, wait a minute, this must go forward.

  • Judy Woodruff:

As all this is going on, President Trump continues to come after you in his speeches, in his tweets. You have been tough on him as well.

I think you called him recently a corrupt human tornado.

  • Hillary Clinton:

    Yes.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Well, he's come back at you several times.

In fact, he tweeted just this morning. And I'm going to quote.

He said: "I think that crooked Hillary Clinton should try to enter the race to try and steal it away from uber-left Elizabeth Warren. Only one condition: The crooked one must explain all of her high crimes and misdemeanors, including how and why she deleted 33,000 e-mails."

  • Hillary Clinton:

    Yes.

You know, it truly is remarkable how obsessed he remains with me. But this latest tweet is so typical of him. Nothing has been more examined and looked at than my e-mails. We all know that. So he's either lying or delusional, or both.

There was no subpoena, as he says in a tweet this morning. So maybe there does need to be a rematch. Obviously, I can beat him again.

But, just seriously, I don't understand, I don't think anybody understands what motivates him, other than personal grievance, other than seeking adulation.

I said during the campaign, there was no other Donald Trump. What you saw was what you were going to get. And I think a lot of Americans understandably thought, oh, no, come on. That can't possibly be the case. Once he's in the office, he will certainly moderate his behavior.

Well, we have seen, no, he hasn't.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Secretary Clinton, yesterday, President Trump made big news by announcing that his policy was going to be to clear the way for the Turkish government to send its troops into Syria, that the U.S. troops were going to get out of the way, so, essentially, they can go in after the Syrian Kurds, who they view as terrorists.

Of course, the Syrian Kurds have been very helpful to the United States in the conflict in that region.

What's at stake here for the United States?

  • Hillary Clinton:

Well, I thought that the announcement that President Trump made that he was ordering the withdrawal of American troops from Northern Syria and, in effect, giving a green light to the Turks under President Erdogan to go in with their military, was a betrayal, a betrayal of the strongest allies that we have in the region.

We wouldn't have defeated ISIS by this time if it had not been for the Kurds, who were our partners and allies.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Even though Turkey, longtime U.S. ally, NATO ally, you're saying the Kurd — the interests of the Kurds should be placed above the relationship with Turkey?

  • Hillary Clinton:

In this instance, the Turks have made very clear that they are going to engage in a broad-based attack on the Syrian Kurds.

It's a direct threat to our national security, to the blood, sweat, and loss that Americans have already committed to trying to beat the Islamic State.

So they are certainly a NATO ally, but they have been, you know, taking weapons from Russia. They have been using the Kurdish problem to bolster the reign of Erdogan. So it's more complicated.

And if there were to be a decision about withdrawing American troops, it should have been subjected to the kind of careful deliberation that we made in the Obama administration or that I know from prior administrations before being announced, after the president has a phone call with Erdogan.

For all we know, in that phone call, he asked the Turks to investigate Joe Biden. I mean, we can't trust anything he says. But the consequences of this decision are incredibly damaging for the United States.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Do you think he might have asked him?

  • Hillary Clinton:

I have no idea. Who knows what he says to people. He is a loose cannon now in an even more dangerous way than he was.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Let's talk about the book, "Gutsy Women."

The two of you came together. You both talked about how you had discussed, as Chelsea was growing up, strong women, gutsy women as role models, in effect.

Chelsea, I was struck by your mother, when — I think it was her comment about Abby Wambach in the book, the star American soccer player.

And you said — I'm quoting — "She's powerful, and she knows it. She doesn't apologize for it, the way women are so often taught to do."

Is this still a problem, do you think, for young women today? Do they still feel the need to apologize for being themselves?

  • Chelsea Clinton:

    I think, unfortunately, yes.

I think we know, actually, how sadly effective so much of what still exists in the zeitgeist, telling women that we need to modulate our voice, be aware of how we dress, kind of pay more attention to how we present ourselves in the world, vs. kind of the substance of what we feel compelled to say or do.

One of the reasons we felt so compelled to write "The Book of Gutsy Women" was to share stories of women who are unapologetically themselves, and then who use their stories to help propel progress for other women behind them.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Secretary Clinton, you have been advocating for women, I think, your entire career.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Did you think, at this stage of your life, you would still be having to fight this fight?

  • Hillary Clinton:

Well, I hoped not. But I agree with Chelsea that it is still a very big challenge to women of all ages, but particularly young women.

And this book truly is meant to spark a conversation about gutsy women, trying to get people to think about who are the women they know in their own lives, in their own workplaces, their education, wherever it might be, who they admire, who they think has not only stood up for herself, which is the first step, but, more importantly in our eyes, standing up for others, trying to open doors for others to come behind.

  • Chelsea Clinton:

And, Judy, I would just say, today, we have the Trump administration arguing at the Supreme Court that employers should be permitted to fire people based on who they love or their gender identity.

And the fact that they're arguing this kind of while we're in the midst of just an epidemic of violence against particularly black trans women is horrifying to me, that our government is on kind of the side of exclusion and segregation, and not on the side of kind of human rights and human dignity and, I'd argue, history is particularly troubling to me.

  • Judy Woodruff:

As you grew up, you obviously saw your mother doing this kind of advocacy.

Did you think, at this stage in your life, you would still be making these arguments?

  • Chelsea Clinton:

I wish that I could say, when I was a little girl, I was kind of projecting forward a couple of decades.

  • Chelsea Clinton:

But I don't think I was, although it was pretty shocking to me, Judy, when my dad ran in 1992, how many largely older white men attacked me for my appearance, and called me awkward or ugly, or compared me to the family dog.

And, you know, it was on the kind of conventional right and left. It was Rush Limbaugh and "Saturday Night Live."

And, thankfully, my parents and my grandparents had kind of instilled enough in me that I knew that that was bonkers. Like, why were these old men attacking a little girl?

But it did shock me, because I realized, wow, like, I'm being judged by how they're kind of perceiving my appearance. And they know nothing about me.

And I would like to say that we have moved beyond that, but we see what's happening to Greta Thunberg and other young women kind of in the public eye.

And, sadly, we haven't moved beyond that. And adults are still behaving deplorably when it comes to young women who are putting themselves out there or who have kind of been put into the public arena by choices their families have made.

And so I think, unfortunately, we still have a lot of work to do.

  • Judy Woodruff:

Chelsea Clinton, Secretary Hillary Clinton, thank you both very much.

  • Hillary Clinton:

    Thank you.

only to perseverate about what to do with her life...

Chelsea Clinton is making a move.

The question is: Toward doing what, exactly? Does she even know?

It seems doubtful. As happens every couple of years, the erstwhile first daughter re-injects herself into the public eye, only to perseverate about what to do with her life.

Now, as she conducts a joint book tour with her mother — who, quixotic and stubborn and tone-deaf as ever, continues to tease a 2020 run — the duo have sat for interviews with no shortage of outlets, with Chelsea granting her lone solo profile to New York Magazine, long sympathetic to the Clinton machine.

Chelsea, the piece solemnly declares, is “trying to figure out what her own life looks like.”

In February, Chelsea Clinton will turn 40 years old. Hamlet had a less dramatic existential crisis.

Please, please, please: Can it stop? Why does the media continue not just to cover but to coronate a woman who has contributed nothing to public life, has accomplished nothing, and who, by her own admission, has never felt truly motivated to do anything?

What, really, is the story here?

New York Magazine couldn’t crack it, despite spending about 7,000 words trying. The most revealing detail is that Chelsea Clinton has a chief of staff. Not a personal assistant, not an organizer, but a chief of staff.

Still in the race...

ivanka for president...

Melania’s former friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who recently released a memoir about her ties to FLOTUS, says it is “insane” that Donald Trump has already made others come to terms with the prospect of Ivanka assuming the top role in the Oval Office.

Donald Trump is preparing his daughter Ivanka to become the next US President and Melania Trump is “complicit” in the ambitious plans, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, who used to be one of Melania's closest friends, shared in an interview with 60 Minutes.

The author of the recently released tell-all book “Melania & Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with The First Lady” claimed the first daughter had "usurped" power from Melania.

"You have to understand who they [the Trumps] are to understand what they're trying to do - which is fleece the nation,” Wolkoff recounted, going on to say that the fact of Trump “getting Ivanka ready to become a President and already putting that in people's minds is just insane”.

Claiming that "[Melania] has succumbed" to her stepdaughter's ability “to squash her as the First Lady” in a bid  “to affect change”, the author, who published her explosive revelations last month, a very short while before the presidential polls, went on to indicate that Trump has already shown the world who he has picked for “branding” between the two ladies closest to him.

If this story is true, our prediction at the top is on the money, except for the year of grace....

as donald is coughing his lungs out...

It's time to bring Ivanka to the fore and let Ivanka become the candidate for GOP in the November elections... Meanwhile, as Biden falls into a shifting sand-trap and politically vanishes, at low tide in Delaware or New York, he should be replaced by a WOMAN with more brains and less deceitful poise. Bring back Hillary and the Nostradagus predictions will come to life... Scarry, scarry little star in the night...
