the answer is a big book with blank pages...

biden

“Bigger than life" is a double-meaning expression. There has been giants in many cultures, from Big Foot, the Yeti, and other monsters that looked vaguely human. In America, the BIG political beasts are getting a bit old and look like dinosaurs with small heads, on the way to become fossilized. Politics are becoming like embalming fluid, especially in this coronavirulent-epoch… The Democratic party has diced its young hopeful people in favour of a half-dead absent-minded thrice-reheated BIG soufflé, the wrinkles of which have been smoothed by scrapping the skin off. The Republican party still has an active lunatic doing his best to appear like a loose cannon trying to escape a volcano in a straightjacket.

We the people of the world, are dozing off in our isolation… The already half-fossilized oldies, us, are trying to laugh while having no clue about what went past us in the last 100 years (bugger, was it that long ago we had the roaring 20s? The Charleston?), while the young people are now wondering what lifffffffe is really about — after having been told it was about the future, while hanging on to their iPhone on the edge of a Netflix cliff.

Boy, do we need to be entertained away from the news! The grim reaper looks more like Scott Morrison or Donald Trump with each reportage and press conference — or is it the reverse? I wish for a while that they would stop showing leadership… We don’t need leadership! We’d prefer our democracy to be lead by wimps or inefficient public servants who could say without an ounce of satire:

"We don’t know what we’re doing…” This would be closer to the truth.

We need to escape into other worlds, in other stories of BIG well-meaning giants who could tell us in our imagination how to live… We can invent new stories, but Hollywood and the Marvels are always trying to place guns and malevolent intent in the hands of dangerous aliens. F-OFF says Gus… We DO NOT NEED MORE FEAR! We need feasts and sausages the size of clouds, and fill our tummies from fountains of wine and beer, while not being ashamed of farting in the direction of the gods.

In France, this concept was exploited in the 16th century by Rabelais who wrote bawdy romping satires to amuse the people during the Renaissance. His best known works are Gargantua and Pantagruel — stories about giants having a good time, like we deserve, don’t we?... These stories were bordering on science fiction.

In the mid 18th century, Voltaire — what would humanity be without this guy’s satire? — tackled the concept of life with a massive (smallish) science fiction work, Micromégas, which seems to have been under-sung by the English hegemony. We could suspect this forgetfulness was possibly due because they had had their own normal human-sized giant in Lilliput and Blefuscu, the two fictional island nations in the 1726 novel Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift, on which the inhabitants were like ants…

In Micromégas, the upscale is that other planets in the universe are inhabited by beings that could visit planet earth like aliens… No warfare and no conquest intended, just curiosity...

Wikipedia explains without an ounce of sarcasm:

Micromégas (small/large) is an inhabitant of one of the planets that orbits Sirius. His home world is 21.6 million times greater in circumference than Earth. Micromégas stands 120,000 feet (37 km) tall. When he is almost 450 years old, approaching the end of his infancy, Micromégas writes a scientific book examining the insects on his planet, which at 100 feet (30 m) are too small to be detected by ordinary microscopes. This book is considered heresy, and after a 200-year trial, he is banished [by] the court for a term of 800 years. Micromégas takes this as an incentive to travel around the Universe in a quest to develop his intellect and his spirit.

After extensive celestial travels he arrives on Saturn, where he befriends the secretary of the Academy of Saturn, a man less than a twentieth of his size (a "dwarf" standing only 6,000 feet (1.8 km) tall). They discuss the differences between their planets. The Saturnian has 72 senses while the Sirian has 1,000. The Saturnian lives for 15,000 Earth years while the Sirian lives for 10.5 million years; Micromégas reports that he has visited worlds where people live much longer than this, but still consider their lifespans too short. At the end of their conversation, they decide to take a philosophical journey together.

Eventually, they arrive on Earth and circumnavigate it in 36 hours, with the Saturnian only getting his lower legs wet in the deepest ocean and the Sirian barely wetting his ankles. They decide that the planet must be devoid of life, since it is too small for them to see with the naked eye. In the Baltic Sea, the Saturnian happens to spot a tiny speck swimming about, and he picks it up to discover that it is a whale. As they examine it, a boatful of philosophers
[would we like to see one of these boats!] returning from an Arctic voyage happens to run aground nearby.

The space travellers examine the boat and, upon discovering the lifeforms inside it, they conclude that the tiny beings are too small to be of any intelligence or spirit. Yet they gradually realize the beings are speaking to each other, and they devise a hearing tube with the clippings of their fingernails in order to hear the tiny voices. After listening for a while, they learn the human language and begin a conversation, wherein they are shocked to discover the breadth of the human intellect.

The final chapter sees the humans testing the philosophies of Aristotle, Descartes, Malebranche, Leibniz and Locke against the travellers' wisdom. When the travellers hear the theory of Aquinas that the universe was made uniquely for mankind, they fall into an enormous fit of laughter.

Taking pity on the humans, the Sirian decides to write them a book that will explain the point of everything to them. When the volume is presented to the French Academy of Sciences, the secretary opens the book only to find blank pages.

Here, the Voltaire magic hits between the eyes. As a Lilliputian nasty alien in the form of a coronavirus invades our little world, we need to reflect on this caper...

the old drawing board...

And Joe Biden? He’s a symbol that people as old as the Baby Boomers—or, in fact, a few years older—can still dominate national politics, especially in the Democratic Party. Though the 77-year-old Biden is a year younger than Bernie Sanders, he was the old man of the Democratic race in two senses that count for more than his birthday. First, Biden, not Sanders, was the candidate of experience, the one who made his pitch based most of all on his biography, not his plans and policy dreams; Sanders was the candidate of the dream, despite his own decades-long tenure in public life. Second, Sanders was the candidate that young voters preferred; Biden needed not only African-Americans but older Americans in order to become the party’s presumptive nominee. The problem for Democrats here is not necessarily what happens in November 2020, but rather how cohesive the party will be even if Biden can win. Does a Democratic Party led by a 78-year-old President Biden and an 80-year-old Speaker Pelosi have any future in a post-Boomer America?

Democrats have long taken for granted the advantage they expect to gain from America’s generational ethnic transformation: as whites become a smaller majority, and in more and more places are reduced to an electoral plurality, the minority voting blocs that have proved loyal to the Democrats should provide them with permanent power. Yet this is no longer a safe bet if the Democratic Party splinters ideologically, and the ability of leaders like Biden and Pelosi to appeal to the young leftists of all races who supported Bernie Sanders is very much open to doubt. To win elections with one set of voters, while a completely different set of voters holds the future of your party, is apt to be a Pyrrhic, and most temporary, victory.

another wicked choice for the US voters...

In the worst-case scenario, there is a risk that 77-year-old Joe Biden won't be able to construct whole or meaningful sentences or even maintain the activities of daily living, Norwegian psychiatrist Fred Heggen has mused.

Having analysed the public appearances of US President hopeful Joe Biden, Norwegian psychiatrist Fred Heggen has noted an obvious congitive failure in his mental health, which may be a sign of worsening dementia.

What began as minor episodes when Biden started his election campaign to become the Democratic presidential candidate – “forgetfulness, mischief, confusions, gaffes, and aggression” – has worsened “at galloping speed”, Heggen noted in an opinion piece published by Nettavisen.

In the piece called “Why Democrats are rallying behind a possibly demented candidate?” Heggen pointed out that Biden is now largely screened from contact with the media and the public. When he appears, the speech lasts a maximum of 10 minutes. Biden is either instructed via an earpiece or reads the text on a teleprompter. No questions from the press are allowed.

The few times Biden took part in an actual debate, he struggled with impaired concentration, memory loss, and sudden blocks of thought, he said.

“Of course I may still judge him wrongly, but in my eyes he appears as a person who is already very affected by dementia. And the presidential election is still far ahead. What if his condition worsens further over the next two-three months?” Heggen asked rhetorically.

In the worst-case scenario, Heggen mused, there is a risk that Biden won't be able to construct whole or meaningful sentences or even maintain the activities of daily living (ADL).

“This is not scare propaganda on my part. Everyone who has had experience with people with dementia knows that a deterioration can come quickly and have a particularly dramatic course”, Heggen wrote, warning of the potential dangers associated with a potential dementia sufferer as a president hopeful.

“This man is who the Democrats and the other globalists of the world trust. This is the man who will sit in the White House with his finger on the nuclear button. We are no longer talking about rational politics. We are talking about the madness put into the system”, Heggen concluded.

Fred Heggen is a medical director at the Lovisenberg Diaconal Hospital's psychiatric clinic in Oslo and a columnist at the online newspaper Nettavisen.

Previously, numerous news outlets, such as Consortium News, CounterPunch and Politico, have speculated about Joe Biden having dementia. Several politicians and pundits, including Trump's lawyer and former New York Mayor Rudi Giuliani and conservative author and columnist Ann Coulter, also suggested that 77-year-old Biden has senile dementia.

biden is a liar...

WASHINGTON — Former Vice President Joe Biden and former FBI Director James Comey are among the top officials who tried to “unmask” Michael Flynn’s identity during the Russia probe, according to a report by acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell.

The bombshell letter, first reported by Fox News on Wednesday afternoon, was sent to Republican senators by Grenell as they seek to investigate the origins of the FBI’s malign probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Intelligence chiefs John Brennan and James Clapper are also included on the list of 23 named Obama-era officials who allegedly tried to reveal the identity of Flynn during the presidential transition period, as are Obama chief of staff Dennis McDonough and former US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power.

Nine names were redacted for apparent national security purposes.

Biden’s name emerged in connection to the Flynn unmasking just a day after he denied any knowledge of the Flynn probe.

“What did you know about those moves to investigate Michael Flynn, and was there anything improper done?” “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos asked him Tuesday.

“I know nothing about those moves to investigate Michael Flynn,” Biden said.

Asked about Biden and the others named in the letter, President Trump told reporters at the White House Wednesday, “The unmasking is a massive thing. I just got a list, who can believe a thing like this?

“And I watched Biden yesterday on ‘Good Morning America’ … and he said he knew nothing about anything. He has no idea, he knows nothing about anything. Nothing at all,” Trump said.

“And then it gets released today that he was a big unmasker. So how do you know nothing if you’re one of the unmaskers?” Trump called Flynn “a great, great gentleman and a real fighter,” but would not say if he was considering a pardon.

President Trump’s campaign also issued a scathing statement ripping Biden.

“Joe Biden’s limp claim that he doesn’t know anything about the railroading of Gen. Michael Flynn just got even more unbelievable. Biden is listed among the Obama administration officials who requested the unmasking of Flynn,” the campaign said.

“We already knew Biden was briefed on the Flynn case before President Trump took office and now we know that he wanted Flynn unmasked. Americans have a right to know the depth of Biden’s involvement in the setup of Gen. Flynn to further the Russia collusion hoax.”

The document sent to the senators Wednesday and obtained by Fox included a memo from National Security Agency Director Paul Nakasone, who provided the list.

“Per your email request of 3 May 2020, I am providing a revised list of identities of any officials who submitted requests to the National Security Agency at any point between 8 November 2016 and 31 January 2017 to unmask the identity of former National Security Advisor, Lieutenant General Michael T. Flynn (USA-Ret),” Nakasone wrote.

The list, he said, includes officials “who may have received Lt. Gen Flynn’s identity in response to a request processed between 8 November 2016 and 31 January 2017 to unmask an identity that had been generically referred to in an NSA foreign intelligence report.”

Please note that the list was known a long time ago, but politics demand that "revelations" be done slowly in order to cook the goose for longer... Biden was happy that he was leading the polls... then boom... 3 points less... Biden is a liar... has been and always will be...

biden's deplorables...

“I shouldn’t have been such a wise guy,” Mr Biden said on a subsequent call with the US Black Chambers Inc, an African-American business group.

“I shouldn’t have been so cavalier.”

Mr Biden, who served eight years as No.2 to former US president Barack Obama, added he has never taken black voters for granted and that no one should have to vote for somebody.

During the radio interview, recorded on Thursday, the popular host had challenged Mr Biden over his long history on race issues.

As Charlamagne pressed Mr Biden about whether he would select an African-American woman as vice president, a campaign aide could be heard trying to end the interview.

“You can’t do that to black media!” the radio host said.

Mr Biden responded: “I do that to white media and black media because my wife has to go on at six o’clock.”

Charlamagne invited Mr Biden back to the show, saying he had more questions ahead of the election.

“You’ve got more questions?” Mr Biden replied. “Well, I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.”

Mr Biden called his record on racial issues “second to none”.

He and Charlamagne agreed he would come back on the show another time.

US Senator Tim Scott, who is black, said Mr Biden’s comments were “arrogant and demeaning” and “negative race-baiting rhetoric”.

Mr Biden adviser Symone Sanders said in a tweet the remarks were made in jest.

Sometimes Donald Trump portrays his election rival, Joe Biden, as a sleepy geriatric who should be in a care home because “he doesn’t know he’s alive”. At others, the president speaks of Biden as a wily manipulator who conspired with the deep state and China.

But in this scattergun approach, the US president has been uncharacteristically reluctant to use what, in normal times, would seem standard political ammunition: an allegation of sexual assault.

It took more than a month after Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer, alleged on a podcast that Biden sexually assaulted her in a Capitol Hill basement in 1993, for Trump to publicly address the matter.

Even then, the US president’s comments on 30 April were unusually milquetoast. “I don’t know anything about it,” Trump said. “I don’t know exactly – I think he should respond. You know, it could be false accusations. I know all about false accusations. I’ve been falsely charged numerous times. And there is such a thing.”

Then, speaking on Fox News’s Fox & Friends, usually a comfort zone, he again declined to go for Biden’s jugular. “Look, he’s got to fight that battle,” he said. “I’ve had battles, too, where I’ve had false accusations, many times. I’ve had many false accusations made, I can tell you that. Many. And maybe it is a false accusation. Frankly, I hope it is, for his sake.”

The first and most obvious explanation for the president’s reticence is that he himself has been accused of assault and unwanted touching by a long list of women, some far more recently than Reade’s account. He also denies the allegations. On the other hand, Trump has never allowed perceived double standards to get in the way of his scorched earth tactics in the past.

Monika McDermott, a political science professor at Fordham University in New York, said: “It’s surprising in a way because usually Trump doesn’t pull back on things even when they do seem hypocritical or ironic or choose your adjective. Yet he is in this particular instance. I don’t know if he’s waiting for something to happen or whether he’s waiting to see how it plays out before he does anything. He seems to be finding what seem to him more fruitful attack routes against Obama and other things and people than against Biden right now.”

In 2016 Trump’s campaign was rocked by the release of an Access Hollywood tape in which he could heard bragging about using his fame to grab women’s private parts. Instead of quitting, he went on the offensive against his rival Hillary Clinton by highlighting sexual assault allegations against her husband, former president Bill Clinton, and even inviting those accusers to a press conference before a presidential debate.

But this November will witness the first presidential election since the rise of the #MeToo movement, which has encouraged women to come forward with allegations of sexual assault against prominent men in politics, show business and other industries.

joe biden — the backwards ill-wind..

From OffGuardian
Every week (or, rather, most weeks, since the coronavirus torpedoed our schedule), we like to highlight three or four stories that go full-Guardian, but don’t require an entire article of refutation. We encourage reader-participation here, so if you come across something you feel should be included in the next edition either post a link below, or send us an e-mail.

JOES BIDEN: SOCIAL REVOLUTIONARY

Whatever the cause of the Black Lives Matter protests, however many of the street-level voices are sincere, there’s no denying anymore they are at least being leveraged politically – if not fully coordinated.

The latest sign of that is the fast-forward reform of Joe Biden into a liberal hero. In this piece we’re told Biden is “seizing the moment” with a “radical reform agenda”.

Elsewhere, Simon Tisdall suggests Biden could be the man to lead the “post Covid revolution”, which is alarming, because most people who’ve been paying attention wouldn’t trust Joe to lead a conga line (although, at least if he’s at the front he can’t inappropriately fondle anyone).

There’s a real pro-Biden surge right now. Whether that’s on the back of the moves to remove Trump “by any means necessary”, or a genuine push for the election is too early to say. The real discussion is who’s going to be his Vice President nominee.

Kamala Harris is being re-shaped into a “progressive voice” and the right choice for VP, despite her dreadful record as a prosecutor and total failure of her campaign. Other names being suggested are Elizabeth Warren…and even Michelle Obama. It’s definitely going to be a woman, and likely a “woman of colour”. The campaign will be incredibly tiresome.

Whoever is named VP, should Biden win (or be installed), will almost certainly be President, because Creepy Uncle Joe is a barely there.

It’s quite rare a Presidential candidate has fewer functioning brain cells than photos of them making little girls uncomfortable

JOHN BOLTON CONFIRMS TRUMP’S WICKEDNESS – BUT STILL HE DESERVES AMERICANS’ SCORN

Jonathan Freedland is angry at John Bolton. Not for being a war-criminal neocon psycho, or threatening the families of UN officials or even for his terrible mustache.

No, it’s because he didn’t overthrow the elected president.

That’s really it. This article is nothing but Freedland quoting anecdotes from Bolton’s latest book, believing them without question, and criticising Bolton for not taking part in the impeachment.

Not one word is spent discussing whether or not Bolton is a reliable source. Or whether he should be standing trial at the Hague. Or whether or not he might actually be a lunatic. Instead, the supposedly “liberal” paper gleefully reports his words as gospel, and wishes he’d “acted sooner”.

Apparently, the problem with Bolton is not the democracies he overturned in the Middle East or Latin America, but the one he didn’t overturn at home.

DO WHAT YOU’RE TOLD, BUT ROLL YOUR EYES

Special mention to Zoe Williams, who doesn’t necessarily believe all the government rules are strictly necessary, but darn it she’s going to follow them anyway. She’s just going to sardonically raise her eyebrows as she does so.

She gets points for this special kind of concern trolling, seeming to sort of give space to the idea the mask rule might not be reasonable, whilst also happening to mention that “respectable opinion is coalescing” around the fact that masks work, that the WHO recommends it and that the argument individual “virus particles” are too small to be kept out by a mask is “pedantic”.

A brilliant job of pretending to offer some kind of contrary opinion, whilst actually rigidly enforcing the orthodoxy. Classic Guardian.

BONUS II: THE ELECTION WILL BE RIGGED (MORE OBVIOUSLY THAN USUAL)

They have yet another story defending mail-in ballots, predicting “chaos” and “confusion” over the new voting systems and claiming that Trump will inevitably cry foul if he loses in November.

That’s the third story along those lines in as many weeks. It’s pretty clear they’re setting up pre-emptive defenses of what is surely to be a highly doubtful – if not flat out falsified – election result.

It is likely that, comes the "election debates", Joe Biden won't turn up... Within a few days of "his" inauguration, if he wins, he will never appear in public again. The presidential decrees will be coming from his minders and the bedpans from the nurses. The man is NOT FIT to run for president. The Donald is not much better, but at least his stupidity is his own and he has stabilised peacefully quite above the moronic status of a warring John Bolton (or even higher than a deceitful or ineffectual Obama). Biden is going loony downhill at a rate of knots... This could be the weirdest election ever... No... This is going to be the weirdest election ever... and the candidates are waiting like in a Mexican stand-off, for the other one to name their "Vice-President"... It's likely to become ugly... Hillary is still in the frame... Surprise! I do not wish ill-winds upon Joe Biden and the Americans, but they brought this upon themselves... It's going to be the useless idiot versus the dangerous senile... How did we come to this?

the old couple?...

On Thursday, presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden surged ahead of Donald Trump in battleground states crucial for a 2020 victory in 19 different polls by four pollsters, with the president’s flagging approval ratings thought to be connected to his handling of coronavirus and the protests that followed the death of George Floyd.

A Biden victory in November would be a “scary proposition” for markets and the US economy as a whole, economist and long-time Trump ally Stephen Moore has suggested.

“I think there’s another factor at play here…that has made the markets so jittery, and that is these poll numbers that are coming out with the presidential election showing Trump down by 8-10 points,” Moore said, speaking on John Catsimatidis’s radio talk show on Sunday.

“That’s a sizable lead that Joe Biden has. The irony of course is Biden hasn’t even shown his face for the last couple of months. But there is a real concern that if Joe Biden were to win this election – and by the way I still think Trump is going to win, but if Biden were to win the election you’re voting not just for Joe Biden, but for a very left-wing economic agenda that would potentially do serious harm. Those are factors that make investors very nervous right now,” Moore added.

According to the economist, Trump’s allies “have to make the case to the American people that this isn’t just about Donald Trump; it’s also about what you get if you vote against Donald Trump, and that’s a scary proposition.”For one thing, Moore argued, House Speaker Nancy “Pelosi would be the co-president if Joe Biden were elected president,” meaning higher taxes, increases in spending and welfare, etc.

Moore served an advisor to Trump on the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and was selected to serve on the Federal Reserve’s board of governors, but withdrew his name from consideration in 2019 amid “unrelenting attacks” against him by Democrats.

His comments come amid the results of well over a dozen polls by multiple pollsters which showed Biden outpolling Trump in every battleground state, including Florida and North Carolina, and even challenging him in states like Arizona, Texas and Georgia, which traditionally favour Republicans.

According to a Rasmussen Reports poll last week, Trump’s approval rating is 41.6 percent, down from a 53 percent average in January.
