MADRID, June 28 (Reuters) - As they waited for the arrival of U.S. President Joe Biden and other world leaders in the high-security NATO summit venue on the outskirts of Madrid on Tuesday, international officials and journalists were bemused to find "Russian Salad" on the top of the in-house restaurant menu.

The melange of peas, potatoes, carrots and mayonnaise is a staple on Spanish restaurant menus but ahead of a summit at which Russia is expected to be labelled as a security threat in the alliance's new strategic concept over its invasion of Ukraine, its presence on the menu caused consternation.

Fighting against Russia with Western help is the only way forward for Ukraine, NATO members have told President Volodymyr Zelensky, according to Belgian prime minister Alexander De Croo.

“We make it very clear that this war can only be won on the battlefield and we should continue to support President Zelensky and the Ukrainian population as much as possible to be able to win the war on the battlefield,” he told journalists on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Madrid, on Wednesday.

He said he had the chance to personally interact with and encourage Zelensky and pointed out that his country was among the first to offer military support to Kiev and will continue sending arms to Kiev, he assured.

“NATO support in the broad sense has been there from the start, and will continue to be there,” he added.

NATO admits it’s been preparing for conflict with Russia since 2014Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that increases in deployments and military spending were done with Russia in mind

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters on Wednesday that increases in military spending and rising numbers of troop deployments in Eastern Europe since 2014 were carried out in anticipation of a conflict with Russia.

Speaking after a meeting of NATO members and partner states in Madrid, Stoltenberg accused Russia of “using force in the eastern Donbass since 2014,” despite the fact that Kiev’s forces have shelled cities in the region ever since the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics declared independence from Ukraine that year.

Nevertheless, Stoltenberg said that the US-led military bloc decided in 2014 to start beefing up its forces in Eastern Europe.

“The reality is also that we have been preparing for this since 2014,” he stated. “That is the reason that we have increased our presence in the eastern part of the alliance, why NATO allies have started to invest more in defense, and why we have increased [our] readiness.”

MEANWHILE, as the Galicians get wiped out, the Russian/Ukrainian in the Donbass will survive in PEACE, under the Russian fatherdom, unless NATO unleashes WW3....

War in Ukraine: in Kherson, life in Russian time

The southern Ukrainian city fell quickly and without a fight to the Russians. Moscow accelerates the Russification of the region while resistance is organised.

The letter sat in the kitchen next to a plate of pancakes, on the fifth floor of a quiet apartment building. “Svieta, my daughter. Eat pancakes, it's very good with cheese. I'm sick of the pain, I can't take it anymore. Goodbye. Your father. The father could no longer find anything to heal himself, he jumped out of the window.
"Here, the lack of medicine kills more people than weapons," said a doctor at Tropin Hospital in Kherson, southern Ukraine, over the phone. First big city conquered, a few days after the Russian invasion, Kherson does not easily let guess its particular situation. From the outside, it seems almost intact, a seaside and port city between two seas – the Black and that of Azov –, a postcard beauty. Here, there is no massive destruction like in Mariupol nor mass graves discovered like in Boutcha.

Kherson, however, has been living under the occupation of Moscow for four months, nothing more arrives there from Ukraine, neither food nor pensions. The roads are blocked, without even a humanitarian corridor: the only access remains through Crimea, the neighbouring peninsula, already annexed by Moscow in 2014. Cut off from the world, the city of Kherson, like the oblast of the same name, is today missing today: the only testimonies come from refugees or residents, contacted by telephone. “We are here forever, kyiv has let you down”, hammer the occupants, who have just completed a third line of defence. But, for the first time, on June 22, the official Russian agency TASS acknowledged that a car bomb attack had targeted a pro-Russian collaborator, while several actions had been kept under wraps. Behind closed doors in the conquered region, another battle has just begun.

"The Russians had prepared their invasion, not only militarily, but with hidden agents in the heart of Ukrainian power", Oleg Dunda, Ukrainian MP

The story of Kherson, its capture and occupation begins with a mystery: how could the city have fallen without a fight – or almost – when the resistance elsewhere in Ukraine has stunned the world? "I would like to know it, like all citizens", indignant, in kyiv, Iryna Vereshchuk, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the occupied territories. She remembers the early days of the invasion, when the national military committee wondered: why aren't the bridges blowing up? Why aren't our troops fighting on the border? These were the orders in case of aggression. Treason ? The word circulates, of course.

Could it be that the population of Kherson is mostly RUSSIAN? The Ukraine government HAD BETRAYED THE RUSSIANS IN UKRAINE... So what else can people do? Stop speaking Russian as decreed by little shit Zelenskyyy-i? Burn their Russian books and not listen to Rachmaninov?
