Nazi Germany’s defeat in 1945 has proven to be only a pause in a longer historical struggle against fascism. We are seeing that struggle playing out in Ukraine, and with Washington’s madcap psychopathic aggression toward Russia.

This week marked the 78th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in May 1945. While the evil Third Reich was vanquished, a deeper monster had not been slain. Nazi Germany was only one version of Western imperialist fascism, a force that reemerged postwar in full strength in the form of the United States of America and its various Western clients.

It is not hyperbole to describe Washington and its Western satellites as the Fourth Reich.

The ad hoc wartime alliance between the Soviet Union, the United States, Britain and other Western allies would promptly give way to the Cold War, even as the ashes of the most destructive war in history were still smoldering. It is staggering to contemplate the deviousness here.

This reconfiguring of Western militarism explains why the United Nations established in 1945 was immediately made a mockery of by the U.S.-led Western powers and the NATO axis formed in 1949 with countless foreign wars of aggression, from the Korean War (1950s) right up to the present war in Ukraine.

The origins of the Cold War in 1945 and of today’s confrontation in Ukraine can be traced to the secret relations between the Americans and British and the Nazi Reich at World War Two’s end.

Redeploying Nazi War Machine

Declassified American archives, among other sources, attest to the recruitment of tens of thousands of Nazis, SS officers and their murderous collaborators by the United States and Britain. The largely unspoken objective was to redeploy the remnants of the Third Reich’s war machine against the Soviet Union.

Ukrainian fascists who had actively participated in the Nazi Final Solution killing millions of Slavic people were recruited by the Western powers to fight a proxy war behind Soviet lines. Mass murderers like Stepan Bandera and Mykola Lebedwere protected by the American and British intelligence agencies to continue their nefarious work. Former Nazi spy chief Major General Reinhard Gehlen was assigned to coordinate Ukrainian and Baltic Nazi guerrillas to wage a covert war against the Soviet Union. These are but a few names in a whole clandestine army of agents and paramilitaries deployed by the West across Europe in the decades following World War Two. Many of them were trained in the United States for their commando, terrorist missions to sabotage Soviet societies.

American intelligence chiefs in the wartime Office of Strategic Services (OSS), such as Allen Dulles and James Jesus Angleton, knowingly recruited Nazis in Europe to pursue the anticipated next war against the Soviet Union. Ratlines were created to ensure that Nazi war criminals would evade prosecution and the Western intelligence services not only redeployed thousands of Nazi personnel, they secured lucrative gold and other loot that the Third Reich had amassed during its reign of terror. This dark money would fund covert operations carried out by the U.S. around the world for decades to come, as David Talbot documented in his book, The Devil’s Chessboard. Here is a merely sample list of CIA coups and subterfuges around the world that connect to the World War Two treachery with Nazis: Italy (1948), Syria (1949), Iran (1953), Guatemala (1954), Congo (1960), Cuba (1961), Dominican Republic (1961), Brazil (1964), Indonesia (1965), and Chile (1973). These are not isolated events or dates. They are a sequence in an American imperialist tapestry of worldwide aggression. And one can continue adding to the list up to Ukraine today.

Wartime Alliance Expedient for Ridding Nazi Rival

A good question is why the Western powers even bothered to form a wartime alliance with the Soviet Union to defeat the Hitler regime? After all, the U.S. and British ruling class and financial elite had been instrumental in building up the Nazi war machine during the 1930s for the purpose of defeating the Soviet Union and communism generally. No doubt, the wartime pact was an expedient arrangement for the West to get rid of the German Reich which had mutated to become an awkward imperial rival. There were also some Western leaders such as President Franklin D Roosevelt who were genuinely opposed to fascism, and who indeed was in danger of being toppled by domestic fascist factions within the establishment.

The postwar treachery of the Western wartime allies went far beyond the recruitment of Nazi personnel. Factions within the Western ruling establishment were actively considering the use of the newly developed atomic bomb against the Soviet Union. General Leslie Groves who oversaw the Manhattan Project openly told Pentagon scientists that the real target of the bomb was Moscow, not Nazi Germany as earlier advertised. There were also actual drawn-up plans such as Operation Unthinkable and Operation Drop Shot for preemptively striking the Soviet Union before it developed its own atomic weapon.

Thus, despite Western media and academic distortions and Hollywood glamorizing, the Cold War can be rightly seen as the continuation of the Second World War. The stealth plans to preemptively hit Moscow with nuclear weapons went hand in hand with on-the-ground deployment of Nazi foot-soldiers across Europe. The Soviet Union which lost at least 27 million people in what it calls the Great Patriotic War was of course aware of the impending Western treachery. Moscow saw how so-called wartime allies were cutting deals with Nazis and violating agreements to hand over war criminals. The Cold War was perhaps the greatest betrayal by the Western powers and an indelible sign of their depth of duplicity and relentless belligerence.

Western Elites Criminalizing Victory Day

Nearly eight decades on, across Europe this week was the occasion of surreal events. Russia held its annual Victory Day parade against Nazi Germany with the traditional pomp and ceremony, while in Western states there were no major official commemorations. The European elite like European Commission President – and Nazi scion – Ursula von der Leyen prefer to celebrate the newly fashioned “Europe Day” and ignore Victory Day. Indeed, they are going further and criminalizing those who celebrate Victory Day.

How weird is that? Well, only perhaps weird given the Western mainstream falsifying accounts and omissions about World War Two. But not weird for those who understand the deeper imperial intrigues of that war and its sinister aftermath.

Indeed, several events organized by citizens in European states to commemorate Victory Day were blocked by authorities. Police in Germany, the Baltics and other European states banned citizens from displaying Soviet flags at war memorials to honor the victory of the Red Army in Berlin. Yet, in these countries, supporters of Ukrainian fascists were permitted to wave their flags and harass members of the public who wanted to pay homage to the Red Army and mark the defeat of Nazism.

Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address at the Red Square parade correctly noted that an undeclared war is being waged once again against Russia. It is truly astounding that this is happening within living memory of the horrors of WWII. To any rational, moral person this may seem shockingly depraved. But if the nature of the imperialist, fascist beast is properly understood then one can readily appreciate that the beast must be fed with blood and flesh. It is uncontrollable, until it is slain.

Ukraine Battlefield in Bigger War

The conflict in Ukraine is but a battlefield in a bigger war between the U.S.-led NATO military axis and Russia. The world, as Putin noted, is at another historic juncture of existential implications for the future of the planet and life on Earth.

This week saw yet more weapons being supplied to the Kiev regime by the NATO powers. The U.S. committed another $1.2 billion in arms (on top of an already dispatched $30-50 billion over the past year); Britain announced the supply of long-range cruise missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory; while Germany’s top military commander General Carsten Breuer inspected Ukrainian troops and gave assessments about an anticipated counteroffensive. The entire NATO axis is de facto at war against Russia. This is no longer a proxy war and it is heading inexorably to an all-out war. The danger of a nuclear conflagration has never been so perilous, comparable to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Make no mistake, the abysmal situation has been created by Washington and its Western clients from their refusal of diplomacy and dialogue on Moscow’s proposed security accords.

The odious Kiev regime, which came to power in a CIA-backed violent coup in 2014, every week honors some Nazi figure or another from the past by renaming streets in their memory. The regime was purposed in 2014 to develop as a catspaw against Russia with NATO weapons and military trainers, as NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg disclosed again this week in a media interview.

The Americans and British recruited the Third Reich remnants at the end of World War Two because within the ranks of the Western ruling establishment were numerous fascists or “exceptionalists” who believe in a divine right of American superiority and world dominance. This is a mindset that has become endemic in Washington. The American OSS which went on to become the CIA in 1947 under the orders of President Harry Truman (the atomic bomber of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) was the embodiment of American fascism along with the Pentagon’s military-industrial complex (MIC). The CIA, the MIC, Wall Street banks and the corporate elite of American capitalism represent the deep state or corporatist state that is fascism. The electoral process is but a fig leaf of “democracy”. The same can be said for most Western states and their phoney elections. The real power resides in an unelected oligarchy. In short, the Western states are inherently fascist with a veneer of democracy, like lipstick on a pig.

The CIA would use its acquired Nazi expertise along with the British to terrorize the world with assassinations, coups and wars in the subsequent decades of the Cold War. The fascist American elite even assassinated one of its own presidents, John F Kennedy, on November 22, 1963, owing to his growing peaceful intentions with the Soviet Union and his refusal to countenance a preemptive nuclear attack on Moscow, as General Curtis LeMay and other Pentagon chiefs were demanding.

Why Supposed End of Cold War Brought No Peace

This decades-long continuity in fascist history explains why the supposed end of the Cold War in 1991, more than three decades ago following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, did not lead to greater peace and security in international relations.

The fascist Western powers led primarily by the U.S. ruling elite cannot be at peace with the rest of the world because their system of capitalist imperialism is predicated on total hegemony and dominance. That fundamental condition of inequality in human relations must be underpinned by militarism, aggression, state terrorism and war.

Western European leaders reach peak dystopia on Victory Day

Top EU officials showed off their revisionism skills as Russia commemorated the 78th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat

On the day that Russia was marking the victory of the Soviet Union and its Western allies over Nazi Germany, the unelected president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, thought it would be a good idea to head over to Kiev, where neo-Nazis have recently been re-emerging in Europe.

“Nazi defeat day” is an odd occasion for a Western figurehead to go praise Ukraine as “the beating heart of today’s European values”considering the country integrated neo-Nazi fighters into the military and welcomed Western countries in training and equipping them. Perhaps next year’s Paris Olympics can introduce a new event for Queen Ursula to showcase her world-class mental gymnastics skills.

Von der Leyen then praised Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky for rebranding May 9 as Europe Day, just like in the European Union where countries mark Victory Day on May 8, the date to which Zelensky also moved Victory Day this year. Suddenly, Victory Day in Ukraine wants to self-identify as Europe Day and it’s a done deal with the simple stroke of a pen.

European leaders treated Victory Day in Russia like it was the birthday of an ex who lives full-time and rent-free in their heads. Speaking at the European Parliament, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that “2,200 kilometers north-east of here, in Moscow, Putin is parading his soldiers, tanks and missiles today. Let us not be intimidated by such outward manifestations of power!”

Right, because Russian President Vladimir Putin was totally trying to scare Scholz and not at all just hosting an annual historic commemoration of the 78-year-old victory of the Red Army over fascism. Maybe if people are intimidated enough by a ceremonial parade, they’ll conveniently forget all about Nazi Germany.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron took to Twitter with a lengthy ode to Europe that mistook stated ambition for actual reality.

“During the pandemic, it was our democracies that took the necessary steps to protect our most vulnerable citizens. It was our open societies that looked to science to develop, manufacture and provide vaccines to the entire world,” Macron said, in celebration of the jabs that enabled people to catch and transmit Covid enough times for governments to stop caring, while ignoring that lockdowns, mandates, and government-mandated QR codes to access basic venues of daily life were anything but open and democratic. He also failed to mention that rather than actually just protecting the most vulnerable, everyone else was also made more vulnerable as a result of government action that controlled their basic rights of work, travel, and freedom of movement.

“We drew a line under European dependence on Russian fossil fuels,” Macron said, conveniently omitting the fact that they’ve switched out that energy security for an over-reliance on pricy American fuel – over which Macron himself has lambasted the US. Not to mention that Europe is still actually buying Russian fuel, except that it gets effectively laundered through third countries such as India which conveniently allows the EU to keep up virtue-signaling appearances.

Macron tweeted on about Europe boasting “the most ambitious climate plans.” Nothing says climate ambition like firing up coal plants as the bloc’s economic engine, Germany, did in the wake of effectively cutting itself off from cheap Russian gas. “By 2050, we will have achieved carbon neutrality,” Macron added. So be sure to mark that down on your calendar for 27 years from now so you can see if he kept his word.

“It is together as Europeans that we will preserve our ability to decide for ourselves,” said the French president. Too late. You had that chance, but decided to hitch yourselves to Uncle Sam’s regime change bandwagon and be dragged along for the ride. Chalk it up to a lack of courage when it mattered.

It’s one thing for Macron to talk a good game about strategic European autonomy, as he did recently en route back from China. Or for German Economy Minister Robert Habeck to underscore the need for Europe to carve out its own independent trade agenda, but every time such words get put to the test when it counts, European leaders fail. Instead, they end up finding refuge in their own propaganda and revisionism. Burrowing out from under their own nonsense and doing the heavy lifting to match their actions with words takes far more courage.

Macron honors French Resistance while avoiding pots and pans demonstrations

In the prison where resistance fighters Jean Moulin and Marc Bloch were detained, the French president on Monday called for unity amidst continued protests over his pension reform.

Emmanuel Macron arrived silently to Lyon on May 8 to commemorate the French Resistance to the German Occupation. A few hours earlier, the French president had driven up the Champs-Élysées in a sedan with closed windows, without the usual cheers from the crowd, for the traditional ceremony commemorating the surrender of Nazi Germany.

On the outskirts of Lyon's Montluc prison, where Jean Moulin, hero of the Army of Shadows, was imprisoned, a small handful of guests welcomed the head of state. "There are not many people but [it's] complicated," said Senator Thomas Dossus (Europe Écologie-Les Verts, France's Green Party) in front of the prison converted into a commemorative site. Macron replied that "mistakes in tone are never good in general, so these are moments of reunion when we must rise and celebrate those who allow us to be here today."

The following section appeared in an interview with the Ukrainian president published on Saturday. By Sunday it had been removed with no explanation. After discussing a trove of recently leaked Pentagon documents, which revealed – among other things – that the US monitors Zelensky’s communications, the newspaper presented him with a fresh allegation that has not yet been reported in the US media.

Note that Evgeny Prigozhin is the founder and head of the Wagner Group, a Russian private military company currently fighting in the Donetsk People’s Republic.

WaPo: The documents indicate that GUR, your intelligence directorate, has back-channel contact with Evgeny Prigozhin that you were aware of, including meeting with Evgeny Prigozhin and GUR officers. Is that true?

Zelensky: This is a matter of [military] intelligence. Do you want me to be convicted of state treason? And so, it’s very interesting, if someone is saying that you have documents, or if someone from our government is speaking about the activities of our intelligence, I would also like to ask you a question: With which sources from Ukraine do you have contact? Who is talking about the activities of our intelligence? Because this is the most severe felony in our country. Which Ukrainians are you talking to?

WaPo: I talked to officials in government, but these documents are not from Ukraine, they are from…

Zelensky: It doesn’t matter where the documents are from. The question is with which Ukrainian official did you talk? Because if they say something about our intelligence, that’s treason. If they say something about a specific offensive plan of one general or another, this is also treason. That’s why I asked you, which Ukrainians are you talking to?

WaPo: About these specific documents? You are the first person I am talking to about them.

Zelensky: Okay.

WaPo: And I can read you what information exactly there is about Prigozhin and the GUR. On February 13, Kirill Budanov, chief of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence, informed you about a Russian plan to destabilize Moldova with two former Wagner associates. Budanov informed you that he viewed the Russian scheme as a way to incriminate Prigozhin because “we have dealings” with him. You instructed Budanov to inform Moldovan President Maia Sandu, and Budanov told you that the GUR had informed Prigozhin that he would be labeled a traitor who has been working with Ukraine. The document also says that Budanov expected the Russians to use details of Prigozhin’s secret talks with the GUR and meetings with GUR officers in Africa…

Zelensky: Listen, to be honest, well, you just read something, you say something. I just don’t understand where you get it, whom you talk to and so on. You talk about how I met with Budanov. This suggests that you – how do you put it? It looks like you have people who have some records or you have some evidence or you have something, because that’s what it looks like. You are again doing, I apologize, what you were doing before. You are releasing some sort of information that does not help our state to attack and does not help us to defend our state. So, I don’t quite understand what you are talking about. I don’t quite understand your goal. Is your goal to help Russia? I mean, that means we have different goals. If I’m not sitting at the same table with them, I don’t quite understand what we’re talking about. Each of these inquiries simply demotivates Ukraine, demotivates certain partners to help Ukraine. Well, one way or another, I just don’t understand your goal.

WaPo: Our goal is not to help Russia.

Zelensky: Well, it looks different.

WaPo: No one gave us this information personally. These were in the leaked documents, which do indicate, as I said earlier, that the United States is listening in on you.

Zelensky: And if you have classified documents, it means someone gave them to you. If you have access to documents, someone gave them to you. Today, in the world of modern technology, when you have access, it’s not necessarily someone gave it to you. You have access. You are now quoting some documents as originals, without understanding the responsibility for this, you are just talking about some information. For me, this is incomprehensible information, but in this, in our dialogue, I want to understand why you are doing this. I told you at the beginning of our conversation that I believe that the TV show that was launched, launched in the information field, helps – I don’t know who, but it helps Russia, it definitely doesn’t help Ukraine. You are engaged in continuing this story. And so, I ask you if it’s your choice and if you think that the Russian Federation needs to be helped in a variety of spheres – that they were expecting a Ukrainian counteroffensive in whichever direction, so that they know when we are coming, so that they know our powerful forces and what we are planning, what our intelligence is doing? Well, if that’s the case, then...

WaPo: I would say that these documents were leaked, not by us, and they were on the internet in a chatroom for weeks.

Zelensky: They were not on the internet, they were a part of something. We, the normal society, couldn’t access all of this. We couldn’t. And then, I think, information began to come out that we would partially publish everything else. I think it’s yours – or your editorial board, or whoever. I don’t want to offend anyone, I don’t know. That’s why you are releasing this information one by one today. You publish information about a counteroffensive in Ukraine, about this or that. I told you that I believe that this is, how to put it? – someone heard something somewhere, someone published something somewhere, but the information is compiled, and it is different, and it definitely does not work in Ukraine’s favor. That’s all. And now you want to take the bull by the horns. You need to substantiate or not substantiate this information, and then there will be a certain weight to your information, because the president of Ukraine reacts to it. Do you understand?
