fist fights and birdie sale.....Elon Musk is clearing house following the rebranding of Twitter last month, putting hundreds of items featuring the platform’s old logo up for sale. Heritage Global Partners auction house is selling 678 lots of memorabilia, art, and office assets from the company’s San Francisco headquarters, including a giant sign featuring the iconic blue bird logo that adorned the side of the building. Espresso machines, furniture, musical instruments, fridges, lockers and beer dispensers are also being sold off after the platform changed its name to X last month. The auction will also feature two oil paintings of well-known photos that went viral on Twitter: Ellen DeGeneres’s selfie from the 2014 Oscars with Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep and Lupita Nyong’o, and the shot of Barack Obama hugging his wife Michelle after winning the US presidential election in 2012. Some other items include an indoor barn, plenty of hashtag-related art, a vinyl collection, and a dishwasher. According to the listing, the starting offer for each lot is $25. The auction will commence at 2pm GMT on September 12 and will end on September 14. It will be the second fire sale at the platform’s headquarters since Musk’s purchase of the company. In January, he held an unprecedented auction for more than 600 office items. A Twitter bird statue that was up for sale fetched an impressive $100,000, while a neon digital sign featuring the bird logo was sold for $40,000. The previous auction was held amid financial troubles at Twitter, which were linked to an exodus of advertisers following reforms introduced by Musk on the platform. However, organizers then refuted claims that the auction’s purpose was in any way linked to Twitter’s financial status. Last month, Musk said cashflow was still negative amid a 50% decline in ad revenue and mounting debts. The upcoming auction is another sign of Musk’s determination to reimagine Twitter. After purchasing the platform last year, he said he wanted to turn it into an “everything” app, which would allow users to communicate, shop and practically live on the platform. https://www.rt.com/business/581181-elon-musk-twitter-auction/

Elon Musk is in talks with Italy’s government about hosting his proposed cage fight with Mark Zuckerberg at a historic site in the country, but the Colosseum has been ruled out as a venue. The owner of X Corp and the chief executive of Facebook-owner Meta first raised the idea of a one-on-one scrap in a series of social media posts back in June. The challenge came as Zuckerberg prepared to launch Threads, a rival microblogging site to Musk’s now rebranded Twitter platform. The Italian culture minister, Gennaro Sangiuliano, said he was discussing holding the bout “in full respect of the sites” where it might be staged, but that it would not be held in Rome. “I had a long and friendly phone conversation with Elon Musk,” he said. “We talked about the common passion for the history of ancient Rome. We are discussing how to organise a great charity and historical evocation event, in full respect of the sites. It will not be held in Rome.”

In the city that was conquered by the Wagner Group before the summer, the regular Russian army has taken over. Kyiv's forces are trying to regain ground, but they face 'highly motivated' opponents.
Hardly a day goes by without the Ukrainian mobile artillery unit to which soldier Serhiy Gnezdilov belongs being called to fire rockets at Russian forces positioned north of the town of Bakhmut. "Sometimes they send us out five times a day," said the 23-year-old from a motorized brigade, as he returned from his first outing of the day.
An hour and a half earlier, at dawn on Sunday, July 23, he and other soldiers had set off in a pick-up nicknamed the "Mobile Nightmare," with an anti-tank gun mounted on its rear. The aim of the mission was to get within 2 kilometers of enemy lines in order to fire a few rockets at a position: a group of soldiers around a heavy machine gun. It was a perilous task, given the intensity of the Russian bombardment, but one that ended in success, Gnezdilov said nonchalantly.
For the soldiers of this unit deployed in the Bakhmut sector since February, the aim of these outings is to "harass and tire out" enemy forces, explained Gnezdilov. "We're getting ready for the big battle," said the soldier, certain that his country's army will succeed in recovering the town captured by the private Wagner militia on May 20, after 10 months of fierce fighting. In fact, since the beginning of May, Ukrainian forces have been advancing and recovering chunks of territory on Bakhmut's northern and southern flanks.
"Everyone expected the counter-offensive to start from the south," explained Andryi Bloschinsky calmly. We met "Nuts" (his nom de guerre), a section commander of the Third Assault Brigade, in a café in Kostiantynivka, a town in the sector. "But this is where it all began." At dawn on May 6, he and his men were among the first to break through the Russian positions deployed on Bakhmut's southern flank with the help of a barrage of Ukrainian artillery fire.

would you not be?....
Elon Musk "isn't serious" about holding a cage fight and "it's time to move on", Mark Zuckerberg has said.
In a post on his social media site Threads, the Meta boss said he had offered Mr Musk "a real date" but the rival entrepreneur had made excuses.
Mr Musk had earlier on Sunday suggested on his own messaging site X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was willing to fight as early as Monday.
The billionaires agreed to the bout in June, sparking huge media attention.
But despite egging each other on for months, the rivals have yet to secure a date, raising doubts the fight will ever go ahead.
The war of words was complicated by the launch of Threads in July, with the rival messaging app to X attracting more than 100 million sign-ups in less than a week.
That number has fallen back, and X remains comfortably ahead with around 350 million users - but Mr Musk has threatened to sue Facebook for "unlawful misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets".
Meta denies the claims.
Last week, Mr Zuckerberg said he had proposed 26 August for the cage fight. Then in a twist on Friday, Italy's culture minister said that he had spoken to Mr Musk about hosting the showdown in the country as a charity event.
Mr Musk suggested it would have "an ancient Rome theme".
On Sunday, however, the Meta boss posted on Threads: "Elon won't confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead.
"If Elon ever gets serious about a real date and official event, he knows how to reach me. Otherwise, time to move on. I'm going to focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously."
