killer aussie choppers go for the chop......Australia is moving forward with plans to scrap dozens of military helicopters which Ukraine and its supporters believe should be donated to Kiev, ABC News reported on Sunday. The Australian Department of Defense retired the MRH-90 Taipan fleet last September, after an incident claimed the lives of four service members. The choppers were decommissioned 14 months ahead of schedule, with 38 remaining in service at the time. In December, the Ukrainian government made an official request to donate them for its war effort against Russia, according to the report, but Canberra is nevertheless moving forwards with its plans. The Defense Department “will dispose of the remaining airframes and systems in an environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner,” the news outlet quoted a spokesperson as saying. The Ukrainian ambassador in Australia, Vasily Miroshnichenko, told ABC News he was “hoping that there’s still a possibility” that the remaining MRH-90s would be given to his nation, since he had not received an official response. The Australian government highlighted its military assistance to Ukraine when asked about Kiev’s request for the helicopters. “Already we’ve devoted AUD 910 million [US$608 million] worth of expenditure. About AUD 730 million of that is on military equipment,”acting Defense Minister Matt Thistlethwaite told journalists earlier this month. “It includes 120 Bushmasters [armored vehicles], it includes a wedgetail aircraft, it includes many artillery vehicles, it includes artillery and howitzers.” Officials in Kiev have complained that a shortage of Western-donated arms and equipment have undermined its war effort. Ukraine has also asked for more advanced weapons, such as longer-range missiles and F-16 fighter jets. London Mayor Sadiq Khan was strong-armed last month into giving civilian vehicles to Kiev instead of scrapping them as required by the British capital’s environmental rules. Meanwhile, Argentina reportedly offered Ukraine two Russian-produced Mil Mi171E rescue helicopters, which it had difficulties flying on its own. Moscow has said that the continued arming of Ukraine will only prolong the conflict, but will not alter the outcome. Western donors are seeking to damage Russia with no regard for Ukrainian lives, Russian officials have claimed. https://www.rt.com/news/590654-australia-scraps-helicopters-ukraine/

7,800 metres....
The Russian 9M133 Kornet is a highly advanced, shoulder-launched anti-tank guided missile system. The armament is one of the most lethal anti-tank weapons in the world. Its high-resolution thermal imaging sight and digital control system provide exceptional accuracy and target acquisition, making it a formidable asset for ground forces.
Armed with top-notch technology, Russian paratroopers have triumphantly destroyed a Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) using the "Kornet" (ATGM) man-portable anti-tank guided missile system outside Artemovsk (Bakhkmut) from a record distance of 7,800 meters, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Unleashing precise fire with a Kornet anti-tank guided missile executed from cover at a record distance to the target, which at the time of the guided missile's launch was 7,800 meters, the Kostroma paratroopers destroyed an infantry fighting vehicle belonging to Ukrainian formations with the crew inside. The second IFV was subsequently hit by the artillery crews of the airborne troops," the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that after the combat operations were over, the units immediately changed positions and continued to carry out their combat mission.
"We've been supplied with thermal imaging cameras on them, so we are able, depending on the missiles, to engage targets at a range of up to 10 kilometers. Thanks to the introduction of the thermal imaging cameras, we are now operating around the clock, that is, both day and night. <...> I have never seen anything better. Previously, I worked with other anti-tank systems, but compared to them this is the best," the deputy commander of the anti-tank platoon said.

crash trash....
A senior Ukrainian Air Force official had brushed off Australian fighter-bombers as rubbish Canberra wanted to get rid of, Australian Financial Review (AFR) revealed on Tuesday. When Kiev changed its mind and asked for the planes months later, the aircraft were already scrapped.
The idea of giving over 41 of the Royal Australian Air Force’s retired F/A-18 Hornet jets was first floated last March. Two months later at the G7 summit in Japan, US President Joe Biden gave the green light to his Western allies to send US-manufactured fourth-generation jets to Ukraine.
Yet, when Kiev was encouraged to lodge a formal request for the fighter-bombers, an unnamed Ukrainian Air Force official called them scrap that Australia was eager to offload, AFR wrote, quoting a defense contractor who was present during the talks.
“He called them ‘flying trash’,” the defense contractor said. “That basically killed the F/A-18 deal. Had he not done it they would have been flying over Ukraine now.”

stockpile.....
The US is working on creating military stockpiles across the region, including potentially in Taiwan itself

The US created a new stockpile of military equipment during drills in Australia last summer to prepare for a future war with China over Taiwan, Reutersreported on Wednesday.
The stockpile was left behind after the Talisman Sabre exercises, which ran from July 22 to August 4 and were billed as the largest-ever iteration of the drill, demonstrating US focus on preparing for a future conflict in the Asia Pacific.
The Reuters report said the equipment left behind includes 330 vehicles and trailers and 130 containers in a warehouse in Bandiana, a suburb of Wodonga, a city in southeastern Australia.
The supplies are enough to supply three logistics companies that would focus on getting equipment to US troops who are fighting a war elsewhere in the region. “We’re looking to do this more and more,” said Gen. Charles Flynn, the top Army commander in the Pacific. “There’s a number of other countries in the region where we already have agreements to do that.”
The US is working to establish stockpiles in the Philippines, Japan, and other countries in the region. Congress is also looking to establish a weapons stockpile in Taiwan itself, something that might not be publicized due to the risk of provoking China.
US Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said last year that the Army’s role in a future war with China would be to establish “staging bases for the Navy, for the Marines, for the Air Force” and to “provide intra-theater sustainment” using the weapons stockpiles and watercraft.
Wormuth said the Army would also have a role to play in the homeland since a full-blown US-China war would likely spread around the globe. “If we got into a major war with China, the United States homeland would be at risk as well, with both kinetic attacks and non-kinetic attacks,” she said.
US military officials are preparing for a direct war with China despite the obvious risk of it quickly turning nuclear. They say they’re trying to “deter” a war, but the military buildup in the Asia Pacific and the new levels of US support for Taiwan make a conflict more likely.
