when peace is dirty word to the europeans.....A high-level EU foreign affairs summit scheduled for August will be moved from Hungary to Brussels, the bloc’ top diplomat, Josep Borrell, confirmed on Monday. Speaking at a press conference in the Belgian capital, Borrell said the bloc must “send a signal, even if it is a symbolic signal,” to punish Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his Ukraine “peace mission,” which brought him to Moscow, Kiev and Beijing. EU officials have condemned Orban's initiative as contrary to the bloc’s policies. Hungary currently holds the rotating EU presidency, and the bloc’s foreign and defense ministers were due to gather in Budapest late next month. Politico earlier reported that EU officials were planning to boycott the meeting in the Hungarian capital. The snub to Budapest comes after numerous Western officials condemned Orban over his visit to Russia to hold talks with President Vladimir Putin on the Ukraine conflict. After concluding his tour, Orban accused the EU of pursuing a “pro-war policy.” Borrell said on Monday that the bloc’s members strongly rejected Orban’s claim, “with only a single exception,”referring to Hungary’s neighbor, Slovakia. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has expressed support for his Hungarian counterpart. Borrell insisted on “formal consequences” for Orban's actions and it was therefore decided “to call for the next [informal] Foreign and Defense Council meeting in Brussels.” Earlier this month, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen canceled a planned visit of EU commissioners to Hungary in protest over Orban’s actions. She also lowered the level of the commission’s representation at informal meetings during Hungary’ six-month EU presidency. EU leaders sux....
Russian senator Alexei Pushkov explains in an interview with the “Franco-Russian Dialogue” association that the Ukrainian crisis has taken on an almost global character and has politically crossed a red line, but militarily, this line has not yet been crossed and it is necessary to avoid this.
Pushkov agrees with Sergei Lavrov who emphasizes that the United States was mistaken in considering the possibility of a conflict between Europe and Russia without their participation. He also warned that if the Europeans crossed this red line, the United States would find itself in an impossible situation, as it would either have to consider a response to Russia under NATO Article 5 or tell the Europeans that it's their business. In the latter case, it would mean the end of NATO.
The Russian senator also said that the main task today is to find a response to the Ukrainian crisis that would allow the West and Russia not to cross this military line. He added that he saw no reason why the West would wage war against Russia over Ukraine, as he saw no gain or rationality from that perspective.
Finally, Pushkov emphasized that Russia had no claims towards some countries or territories that belong to NATO and that there was no objective basis for military conflict. He also thanked journalist Irina Dubois for emphasizing that reason no longer exists for certain experts and alternative media in France who observe the difficult birth of the multipolar world.
