return what russia wants and the world will be much safer....

GUS: GREGORY, RUSSIA IS TREATING UKRAINE CAREFULLY, RATHER THAN WEAKLY... :

There must be a negotiated end to the Ukraine War. The alternative is nuclear armageddon.

The Russian demands are more negotiable than realised. Following the US-backed Maidan coup of 2014, and the subsequent 2014-5 Minsk accords, Russia gained the promise of autonomy for the two Russian-speaking provinces (oblasts) of Lugansk and Donetsk in Donbas, Ukraine.

A solution in Ukraine?   By Gregory Clark

But it did nothing to protect that autonomy, which was quickly violated by Ukrainian extremists.

Moscow has since upped its claim to demand independence for Lugansk and Donetsk and also for adjoining Zaporizhzhia and Kherson provinces where, as in most of Ukraine, Russian was the lingua franca until the Ukraine extremists gained control in 2014.

But in 2-½ years of fighting since 2022, Russia has only just managed to recover Lugansk and only controls about half of Donetsk plus a small strip of Zaporizhzhia. It occupied, but then withdrew from, Kherson city.

In short, Russia’s present demand for all four provinces is weak. A fair result would be for it to drop the claims to Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in exchange for gaining all of Lugansk and Donetsk. Alternatively, it could ask for some form of autonomy for all or part of the four provinces.

Ideally this would also remove the NATO nuclear threat to Moscow, especially if combined with a demand for Ukraine’s neutrality.

But if autonomy is to be part of the solution, Moscow must not repeat the mistakes of Minsk. It must, as in the case of South Ossetia in Georgia, retain the right to station military or place guard-posts to prevent any attempted violation of the autonomy by extremists – something it neglected to do in Donbas.

In Donbas, far from aggressing, Vladimir Putin seemed to think he could rely on diplomatic skills gained form his German-speaking spy days to persuade the Western powers, Germany especially, to behave. Instead, they just laughed at him.

As his critics in Russia have pointed out, Putin wasted eight years fussing around with remodelling the original Minsk agreement (Normandy format etc.), giving the extremists time to shell and kill 18,000 Donbas inhabitants, steal territory, and guarantee that when he did finally move he would be accused of unprovoked aggression – something they could not say in the case of South Ossetia (though they tried).

Incidentally, Putin, on returning from the recent Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, complained how he had to spend much time explaining to participants Russia’s reasons for invading Ukraine. If the participants did not know, how does he expect the rest of the world to know? Moscow’s PR is weak.

GUSNOTE: THE ADDITION OF TERRITORIES TO YUCKRAINE WAS CONDITIONAL TO UKRAINE BEING "A GOOD COMMUNIST COUNTRY" AND FRIENDLY WITH RUSSIA..........................

NATO is wrong...

The more weapons, technology, and assistance provided to Ukraine and the faster it is done, the more successful Ukraine’s outlook will be in defeating Russia. Success for Ukraine is difficult but by no means impossible. Failure is not an option.

Putin declared in mid-June that any negotiations would have to be based on Ukraine’s surrender of huge swaths of territory beyond those parts occupied by Russia, neutrality, substantial demilitarization, and a change in government. In other words: submission. So much for Western accommodationists who have advocated for negotiations to end the war.

RUSSIA WON'T ALLOW THE NAZI KIEV REGIME TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND DEFEAT RUSSIA — WITH THE HELP OF NATO OR NOT. CAPICE? SO WHATEVER NATO DOES IS ONLY GOING TO ASSURE A GREATER DEFEAT OF UKRAINE...

BUT WE KNOW THAT THE UKRAINE CONFLICT IS ONLY A SIDE-SHOW TO THE GREATER GAME OF THE AMERICAN EMPIRE IN ITS DESIRE TO DESTROY RUSSIA — AND CHINA... IN THIS GAME OF CAT (THE EMPIRE) AND "MOUSES", THE MICE ARE BIGGER THAN ELEPHANTS AND THE DEVIOUS CAT (AND ITS LACKEYS) IS GETTING TOO SMART FOR ITS OLD BOOTS... THE EMPIRE WILL FAIL.

SO, THE EMPIRE'S SUCCESS OR NOT, WILL BE DECIDED BY NUCLEAR WAR. AND NO-ONE WILL CLAIM VICTORY.

IT'S TIME FOR SOME PHILOSOPHICAL RESTRAINT THAN STUPID WARMONGERING IN THE TOILET BOWLS OF THE PENTAGON...

The Gloves Come Off – Russian Payback for Kursk Begins

Seth Ferris

For some time, it has been an open secret that NATO has been, as the military says, “Effing around” in Ukraine, particularly in the form of on-site training, as well as involvement in operational planning.

Until recently, the Russians have shown remarkable restraint in targeting these “helpful people”, though it appears that strikes on Ukrainian command centers have accounted for some, with “mysterious” deaths occurring from time to time, like that of Maj. Gen. William F Mullen III, who was “found dead” in building 1651 of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twenty-nine Palms, California on Saturday 29th June, and was recently reviewing military training in Ukraine with a view to improving it. His death, however, comes suspiciously close to a Russian missile strike that devastated the Ukrainian Southern Command bunker on May 1st.

However, it seems that the Russian warnings of retaliation for the western planned and supported invasion of Kursk by Ukrainian troops are fast coming to fruition. Of particular note is the admission that the US and UK provided satellite imagery that was instrumental in the planning and execution of the invasion.

Russia seldom reacts in haste, one of the hallmarks of both Russian political and military action is taking your time and acting with deliberation, rather than the more usual knee-jerk reaction we see from the US and NATO.

Therefore, we can be sure that the strike on Poltava on 3rdSeptember, at the Military Institute of Communications, also known as the 179th Joint Training Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was quite deliberate and that it was intended to send a very strong message.

The attack, made by two Iskander-M ballistic missiles, was swift and deadly, with survivors reporting that the sirens had barely begun to sound before the missiles hit. Casualty estimates range from 200 killed and wounded to over 500, and it is believed that a number of foreign instructors were among those killed and seriously wounded. One possible cause of the excessively high casualties is that it was reported that that strike targeted a military ceremony, possibly a graduation or passing out parade.

Video footage of grievously wounded survivors shoes the incredible power of the strike, and the wounds shown imply the majority of casualties will be total combat losses, with those surviving highly unlikely to return to service.

Of interest are the reports of the deaths of a number of Swedish instructors, who were apparently at the center to train future crews of the latest ASC 890 airborne early warning aircraft.

Also of note, was the unexpected resignation of the Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström, a virulent Russophobe and major supporter of the provision of Swedish weapons to Ukraine. His shock announcement on Wednesday 4th September 2024 may not be linked to the Russian strike on Poltava, but it certainly looks like it could be. It is also interesting to note that Poltava holds a special place in the history of conflict between Sweden and Russia, being the place, on 8th July 1709, that a Russian army under Tsar Peter the Great, defeated the Swedish army led by Carl Gustaf Rehnskiöld, which forever put an end to Swedish imperial expansion and their status as a great power.

Coincidence? I suspect not. The Russian government is definitely sending a message to NATO in general, and Sweden in particular.

A further suspicious death that may be related to the strike is that of Lt. Col. Joshua Camara, who was officially stationed at Camp Kościuszko, home of V Corps’ forward headquarters in the city of Poznan, who was reported to have died on the same day as the Russian strike on Poltava. It goes without saying that US investigators have ruled out “foul play” but the timing is suspicious to say the least.

Needless to say, the Ukrainians tried to spin the strike, claiming that the Russians targeted “an Educational facility and hospital” ignoring the fact that it was a military educational facility, and therefore a legitimate target, and completely failing to provide any evidence of a hospital being hit.

Part of this deliberate falsehood was to allow for a handwringing plea for more air defences. At the Ukraine Defense Contact Group held at USAF base Ramstein in Germany on 6th September 2024, Zelensky both begged for additional air defense systems, and also complained that not all previously promised systems were delivered by his allies in Europe:

“I will not speak openly now about the number of systems they have received — thank you so much again — but the number of air defense systems that have not yet been delivered is significant,” Zelensky said.

“This is what was agreed upon, and this is what has not been fully implemented. The world has enough air defense systems to ensure that Russian terror does not have results, and I urge you to be more active in this war with us in air defense.”

It looks like Zelensky would like to strip the rest of the world of its defenses, just so the Russians can bomb them in Ukraine too. It’s basically the definition of insanity, repeating the same  actions and expecting a different result. But only to be expected from the Narcofuhrer of Ukraine, not to mention his increasingly desperate backers.

At the same meeting, Zelensky also begged for the lifting of restrictions on the use of long-range weapons against targets in Russia. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin swiftly squashed any hope of such permission from the US, although it has been received from such military giants as the Baltic republics, Finland, and Holland. Austin pointed out that any such deep strikes would not be a “game changer” as the Russians already base the aircraft responsible for launching cruise missiles and the deadly glide bombs well outside the range of US supplied weapons.

Austin, seemingly more realistic than previously, also commented “There’s no one capability that will in and of itself be decisive in this campaign”

Instead, the US announced another US$250,000,000 weapons package, which will only further deplete US weapons stocks as Israel moves further and further into dragging the Americans into a war in the Middle East.

Once could almost feel sorry for Zelensky, as he threw away a very beneficial peace agreement in 2022 under the illusion that western support would help him win the war. Now, with his elite forces bogged down (and dying in droves) in Kursk, and not expected to remain there more than a couple of months, the rest of his army in Donbass crumbling rapidly, his country facing a bleak winter without power, and his allies running out of weapons, money, or both, it seems the writing is on the wall for his regime.

The slow motion collapse of Ukraine is sure to have repercussions well outside the immediate conflict zone. The US, UK, and EU, through NATO, have invested immense political and military capital in a “Ukrainian victory” that exists only in western propaganda.

I said earlier that the choice of striking in Poltava may have also been intended as a reminder to the Swedes of the battle that forever destroyed their status as a great power. It may be that the strike on 3rd September will be associated with the collapse of NATO as the great power of our time.

History does not always repeat, but it sure as hell rhymes.

Rusty Tanks, Exchange Rate Hysteria, and Borrowing Like There’s No Tomorrow

Phil Butler  September 02

U.K. tabloids have begun cranking out propaganda about Russia’s ruble “being crushed” this week by the stock markets. The “news” prompted this analyst to dig deeper into where the Russian people stand in 2023 economically.

With a significant conflict blazing on their border in war-torn Ukraine, the Russian people are enjoying an economy even better than in 2013, before the Euromaidan and tons of sanctions began being used to hurt the Putin administration and the people it represents. While it’s true the U.S. Dollar gained 0.15% on the ruble as of this morning, fluctuations in these and other currencies are common and often dramatic. For instance, the dollar lost 4.90% to the ruble in January. The Western media propagandists practice “cherry-picking” the most damning news and data of the day to accomplish their goals.

A better measure of Russia’s economic situation is gleaned by looking at indicators like Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. As of late 2022 (after the special military operation), World Bank figures put this number at $15,348. This figure was almost as high as the 2013 GDP of $15,974. What’s more important is the slope of the curve in the World Bank graph here. It’s nearly complete vertical at a time the Western alliance was throwing everything they had against Russia economically. Currently, IMF figures put Russian GDP per capita at $14,400, about $1,000 lower than in 2022. Again, numbers like this can be deceiving.

Looking at Germany, nominal GDP per capita has been dramatically declining since 2021, when the government began feeling the effects of NATO’s undeclared war on Russia. By December 2022, German per capita GDP had fallen from an all-time high of over $51,000 the previous year to about $3,000 less per capita at just over $48,000. A much grimmer picture of GDP lost opportunity can be seen in the United States and the trillions spent because of the 9/11 wars. While no one has yet calculated Americans’ drop in “potential” per capita GDP, it seems fair to compare Russia, Germany, and the U.S. via a mixed situational vortex.

Let’s take Russia as the first example. The country run by Vladimir Putin’s administration was pushed into a warlike stance by the Western organizers of NATO. The Russians are firing actual missiles, losing real bullets, feeding real soldiers, and fighting economic blockades, which no nation has ever faced. The relatively slight fluctuations in Russia’s ruble and real GDP are not some indicators of a shattered economy. On the contrary. Compared to what is happening in Germany, Putin’s country is witnessing a boom.

The Germans, who sent some small billions worth of aid to Ukraine, have put more than 600 of their top businesses at risk at the whim of Washington. And the reason is not a few dozen rusty, obsolete main battle tanks sent to Ukraine. Germany’s debt and GDP problems are not happening because of a need to feed troops on the frontline. Sadly, almost all of Germany’s problems emanate from the American and British sabotaging gas pipelines and energy deliveries. We need to avoid getting into specifics. If the Germans tried to accomplish what the Russians were, no one there would have a job outside the military.

Now, if we look at the United States, the most indebted nation on the planet, plunges in dollar value since the 9/11 attacks have been propped up by borrowing a hundred of trillions from any person or government that would lend it. This Watson Institute “Costs of War” assessments show the tip of America’s warfare losses iceberg. One facet sticks out in my mind. Just the infrastructure costs Americans will have to pay for in the next thirty years make Russia’s ruble fluctuations seem like penny ante economic troubles.

“U.S. federal spending on the current wars would have led to at least 1.4 million more jobs had the money been invested instead in education, health care or green energy.”

For further clarification, there would have been 1.4 million jobs “more” than the 9/11 war economy created. The people of the U.S. are currently suffering inestimable damage because of the higher ratio of national debt to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) caused by financing our wars with debt. Interestingly, there is no indication that Mr. Putin’s operations in Ukraine are from bonds, back-channel money laundering, or oligarchs loaning their fearless leader truckloads of cash Russians will have to pay back. In fact, as of June 30, 2023, Russia’s debt was $347.7 billion, having decreased by $33.0 billion, or by 8.7%, since the end of 2022. In contrast, the American debt is almost $33 trillion and rising, which means every man, woman, and child in the country owes almost $100,000.

I’ve made the point. The fact that every new homeowner in America will pay higher interest rates throughout their loans because of America’s war folly should outweigh U.K. tabloid media harping about every downturn of the ruble. Think about what I just typed. Two-thirds of all discretionary spending by the U.S. federal government is due to post-9/11 military expenditures and Homeland Security costs.
