maybe it is, and canadians just don't realize it?,,,,,,,President-elect Trump reportedly joked about annexing Canada during last week’s talks with Justin Trudeau, citing the looming impact of a potential trade war on Canada’s economy. Why isn’t Canada already the 51st state, anyway? Or maybe it is, and Canadians just don't realize it? The 8,891 km US-Canadian border, long hailed as the “longest peaceful border” in the world, hasn’t always been so peaceful, with the US invading twice – in 1775 and 1812.
The first invasion targeted Quebec, seeking to seize the mostly French-speaking province 16 years after its 1759 British conquest from France. The invasion failed due to poor organization, illnesses among troops, and a surprise decision by local residents and Native tribesmen to side with the British.
The second invasion was launched in 1812, with the Americans trying to take advantage of a Britain busy with a war against Napoleon in Europe. The invasion similarly faltered, with the Royal Navy blockading the east coast, capturing Washington and burning down the White House in 1814. The war was declared a draw. The US didn’t give up on its plans, however. In 1845, an influential US columnist coined the term “Manifest destiny” – envisioning the US conquest of all of North America. All the way up to the start of the Second World War, the Pentagon had a plan, known as ‘War Plan Red’, to invade Canada as part of a broader conflict with the British Empire. Canada had its own plan - ‘Defense Scheme No. 1’, to repulse such an attack.
Political Machinations Besides armed invasions, numerous scenarios have been floated by anti-Loyalist forces looking to break off from Canada and join the US.
In 1980, the Unionist Party was formed to advocate for British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba joining the US. The party was dissolved soon after after being denied official party status.
In 1989, Parti 51, hailing from Quebec and seeking a similar result, took part in provincial elections, but got less than 4,000 votes.
Oil-rich Alberta has experienced its own strong pro-independence and pro-US sentiments in recent years, linked to Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s 2015 election victory and his "woke" agenda, but perhaps more importantly, resentment over the province’s status as a donor to the federal budget that receives little in return from Confederation.
In 2020, a poll found that 41% of Albertans supported independence, with 50% opposed. How many would support joining the US is unclear, however. Living Next to US ‘Like Sleeping With an Elephant’: Is Canada Already the 51st State? Some observers fear Canada is already a “51st state” of sorts, given the US’s immense political, economic and security influence on the country, going back to the first half of the 20th century. From the 1950s through the 1970s, Prime Ministers John Diefenbaker and Pierre Trudeau (Justin’s father, ironically) attempted to weaken American control of Canada, with Trudeau, who once described living next to the US like “sleeping with an elephant,” even partially pulling troops out of the NATO contingent in Europe, and warming ties with the USSR and China. Such policies are long gone, however. From the 1990s onward, Canada fully embraced its economic dependence on the US via the NAFTA trade pact, opened the floodgates to US cultural domination, and cheerled NATO warmongering and regime-change operations around the world – from Yugoslavia and Afghanistan to Ukraine. Symbolically, even Canada’s famous Molson-brand beer and its iconic Tim Hortons coffeehouse chain are now US owned – a truly sad state of affairs for the True North Strong and Free. https://sputnikglobe.com/20241203/why-isnt-canada-the-51st-state-or-is-it-1121082447.html

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will step down as leader of the ruling Liberals as soon as the party chooses a replacement.
Trudeau, who has been in power for nine years, said parliament would be suspended until March 24 to help facilitate a new government and to allow time for a new Liberal leader to be elected ahead of the next election.
“I intend to resign as party leader as prime minister after the party selects its next leader through a robust, nationwide competitive process,” Trudeau told a press conference.
“This country deserves a real choice in the next election, and it has become clear to me that if I’m having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election.”
Trudeau defended his decision to suspend parliament rather than call an election immediately. Parliament had been due to resume on January 27.
The prime minister – who has become deeply unpopular over a range of issues, including the soaring cost of food and housing – had faced growing calls to resign in recent months.
However, his position had become more and more untenable. All three opposition parties had declared they would support a vote to topple Trudeau’s minority government, while members of his own party had started to rebel, making his situation increasingly tenuous.
That pressure rose further in December when Trudeau tried to demote Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, one of his closest cabinet allies, after she pushed back against his proposals for more spending.
Freeland quit instead and penned a letter accusing Trudeau of “political gimmicks” rather than focusing on what was best for the country.

trump goes for the throat....
Trump signs tariff orders for Canada, Mexico and China
The White House has now confirmed President Trump is implementing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% additional tariff on imports from China.
"Today’s tariff announcement is necessary to hold China, Mexico, and Canada accountable for their promises to halt the flood of poisonous drugs into the United States," the White House says on X.
The order makes an exception for energy resources from Canada, which will have a lower 10% tariff.

Trump’s First Victim: Justin Trudeau
Simon Westwood
Previously, Trump served as the 45th U.S. President as well. He is and will always be remembered as the most controversial as well as the most influential president the U.S. has ever seen. His most important personality trait is his bold and bald rhetoric skills. During his first campaign against the Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton, Trump made very serious promises including erecting the border wall at the U.S.-Mexico border. And after assuming office, Trump started building the wall; however, he couldn’t complete it during his tenure.
Though, during his second presidential campaign, Trump was serving as the U.S. President, yet he was still defeated by the Democrat nominee Joe Biden. During his third presidential campaign, Trump defeated the democrat nominee and the then U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. Using his fiery speech style, Trump made unusual claims and promises, especially regarding America’s northern neighbour i.e., Canada. It is to be remembered here that Canada and the U.S. are members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and share common foreign and security policy choices.
Trump’s Bicker vis-à-vis Canada
Trump claimed without any evidence that the majority of the Canadian people wants to join the U.S. and becoming the 51st state of America. Trump said that “Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State.” He continued that “They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” Moreover, Trump said that he considers Trudeau as his Governor of Canada. A claim that has no foundation of any evidence.
Trump made serious allegations that Canada has been helping illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. through its borders. Trump also said that he would impose 25 percent tariffs on all the goods being imported from Canada. Pundits claim that as soon as February 1, 2025, the tariffs could be imposed.
The Future of North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
With Trump’s threats of imposing tariffs, it is vital to think about the future of NAFTA. The NAFTA was mutually agreed by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico in 1994. Before NAFTA, the U.S. and Canada mutually singed the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement in 1988.
By the virtue of these bilateral and multilateral agreements, the U.S. and Canada were to do trade without tariffs and to facilitate the trade and investment. However, with Trump’s tariff plan could hit Canada very hard. The CNN reported that if Trump imposessuch tariffs, it could “send the Canadian and Mexican economies into recession”
Why Justin Trudeau is the First Victim of Trump?
On December 11, 2024, Canada’s Finance Minister Ms. Chrystia Freeland resigned from office citing her differences with the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The main reason for her resignation was differences with the Prime Minister over the coming tariffs from Trump. Trudeau and Freeland had serious differences over the “two-month sales tax holiday and 250 Canadian dollar.”
Ms. Chrystia said that “Our country is facing a grave challenge… That means keeping our fiscal powder dry today, so we have the reserves we may need for a coming tariff war.” Canada’s Finance Minister Ms. Chrystia Freeland’s resignation remarks reveal the serious cracks within the West and its leaders. Canada’s domestic leaders are embracing for a Trade War with its Southern neighbor i.e., America.
On January 6, 2025, the Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau announced his resignation from the Liberal Party as well as the Premiership of Canada. It is important to understand that why Justin Trudeau is the first victim of Donald Trump’s presidency
Analysis and Conclusions
The West has started to break apart from within. It is worthy to note that the majority of Western leaders unnecessarily opted to support Ukraine against Russia, and did put their economies to dangerous risks, which in turn attracted the criticism from the opposition political parties. The Western nations including Canada made a wrong choice over Ukraine and now its domestic politics are putting the incumbent government to risk.
It is important to note here that Canada exports almost 75 percent of its total manufacturing output to the U.S. This means that Canadian manufacturing industry heavily relies on the U.S. on its financial and economic survival. It is also worthy to note here that “Canada is America’s second largest trading partner, but number one export market.” Canadian exports to the U.S. amounts to almost 170 billion USD. In such a situation, if President Trump imposes further tariffs on Canada, then the Canadian economy would completely collapse and its manufacturing industry could lose its capacity.
The Canadian people must stand up to the illegal and immoral claims made by President Trump. The Canadian people must also revisit Canada’s position regarding Russia’s Special Military Operation in Ukraine and an independent inquiry must be launched to inquire the funding provided to Ukraine to wreak havoc against the Russian people.
There is little doubt that Justin Trudeau is the first victim of Donald Trump, and there could be more victims to Trump’s future trade wars. It is also evident that Prime Minister Trudeau’s policies are backfiring and have brought Canada to the brink of domestic turmoil and a potential civil unrest. It is very disturbing that the Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre who is also serving as the main opposition leader in Canada, has called for an early federal election. Such a demand could put the Canadian politics off-balance in the foreseeable future.
