every new day in this genocide brings with it pain and brutality equal to all the previous days combined....

The Israeli occupation continues the genocide in Gaza in a frenzied manner, with the pace of assaults increasing daily. For 450 days, the occupation has persisted in killing civilians, displacing them, and attacking hospitals and civilian institutions protected by all international laws and regulations. Every new day in this genocide brings with it pain and brutality equal to all the previous days combined. Every moment in this inferno in Gaza is a stain on the false humanity that never acts when Israel is the aggressor.

450 Days of Genocide: Israeli Occupation Burns Hospitals, Cold Ravages the Displaced     By Refaat Ibrahim

In the last days of 2024, Israeli occupation assaults in northern Gaza have escalated, particularly targeting Kamal Adwan Hospital and the patients and displaced people there. Following a series of brutal and violent bombings on the hospital facilities and its surroundings, many civilians seeking refuge in the hospital were killed. Israeli occupation forces stormed Kamal Adwan Hospital, arresting 300 members of the medical staff, including the hospital’s director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyya, and took them to an unknown location. The occupation forces also arrested the director of civil defense in northern Gaza and a group of journalists from within the hospital.

The war crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in northern Gaza did not stop there. The Israeli occupation forced the displaced people in the hospital to leave, arrested the men, tortured them, and executed some of them in front of their families. Occupation forces also attacked people, forcing them to remove their hijabs and clothing by force. Initial testimonies are horrifying, detailing sexual violence perpetrated by Israeli occupation soldiers against nurses, female patients, and their companions at Kamal Adwan Hospital.

The testimonies included shocking details of degrading assaults, with soldiers forcing women to remove their clothes under threat and humiliation. “One testimony mentioned a soldier forcing a nurse to take off her trousers, touching her, and when she tried to stop him, he hit her hard on her face, causing her nose to bleed. Another testimony stated that the soldiers threatened women, saying, ‘Take it off, or we’ll remove it by force.’ When one woman refused to remove her hijab, a soldier assaulted her by tearing her abaya, exposing part of her body.”One victim spoke of being pulled by a soldier to his chest as he told her, ‘Take it off now,’ directing obscene words at her. Other girls faced similar assaults, as soldiers violently grabbed their hair and tore it at the entrance to one of the hospital halls, using degrading gestures and words.”

The Nazi-like crimes committed by Israeli occupation forces in northern Gaza continue. After arresting doctors, displacing patients and the displaced, and sexually assaulting women, the criminal Israeli occupation completely burned down Kamal Adwan Hospital and destroyed all its facilities with utmost savagery. These Israeli attacks on the hospital and other hospitals and medical sectors in Gaza are akin to a death certificate for all the false laws the world has often glorified. However, Israel has disregarded all these laws and ignored all moral obligations toward patients, medical staff, and civilians in conflicts and medical institutions. It has attacked all these entities in a blatant, savage, and inhumane manner while the entire world remains silent, as if giving the Israeli occupation a nod of approval for all this.

Winter Adds Salt to the Wound

With the onset of winter, the suffering of civilians in Gaza, who are subjected to continuous torture by the Israeli occupation, has increased. They are forced to repeatedly flee, are stripped and searched naked, and are subjected to brutal bombings, especially in northern Gaza. Since the war began, the Israeli occupation has repeatedly forced citizens to flee, reduced the size of the Gaza Strip, and forced citizens to gather in the western strip of Gaza, along the Mediterranean coast, under the pretext that these areas are safe.

When citizens who managed to escape the hell of Israeli warplanes and their devastating missiles arrived, the intense cold in the western part of the Strip began to gnaw at their bodies, exacerbating their suffering. In the face of severe resource shortages and the Israeli occupation’s closure of all Gaza crossings, preventing aid from entering, Gazans live in places unfit for human habitation. They sleep in severely worn-out and fragile tents along the roaring beach, enduring the harsh winter winds, intense cold, and rain.

Within a single week, four newborns lost their lives due to freezing in the severe cold in the areas where citizens are gathered in Gaza. Thousands more have fallen ill due to the cold. The elderly also suffer greatly during winter due to the lack of heating tools, blankets, or adequate shelter. This cold-induced suffering is not the only pain afflicting the displaced in Gaza. Among those ominous clouds, aircraft continue to turn the lives of Gaza’s people into continuous hell, death, and loss.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening significantly, with the pace of Israeli assaults on civilians—subjected to systematic killing, starvation, destruction of all civilian facilities, arrests, sexual assaults, biting cold, constant fear, and anticipation of an uncertain fate—becoming increasingly frenzied. Amid this severe humanitarian crisis, citizens question the relevance and role of international and humanitarian institutions in addressing the genocide and war crimes committed against them. They find no one who acknowledges or senses their plight, no individual or entity in the world that tells Israel, “Enough!”

The question I saw on the account of one of the citizens living under genocide in Gaza:

“Where are the human rights organizations, the humanitarian agencies, the global media, and the people regarding how the army treats the women and children of Gaza at Kamal Adwan Hospital while forcing them to flee and burning the hospital?”

Remains unanswered.
