The secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) says the Liberals' backflip on Australian Workplace Agreements (AWAs) means very little. The Coalition had said that WorkChoices was dead, but it would fight to keep AWAs in place. But deputy Liberal leader Julie Bishop said today the Opposition party room meeting had decided it would no longer push to keep AWAs, and instead would support Labor's plan for individual contracts. "Labor's new individual contract, coupled with its new no disadvantage test, will meet the needs of business and employees," Ms Bishop said.
