sunk so low .....The Editor, Sydney Morning Herald. August 29, 2008. The pervasive stench of the Howard government’s corruption lingers stubbornly through the AFP’s deceitful announcement that “there is insufficient evidence to institute proceedings against Dr Haneef for any criminal offence" (‘AFP drops probe into Haneef’, Herald, August 29). In issuing this cowardly & dishonest statement, the AFP corruptly seeks to perpetuate a lingering suspicion in the publics’ mind about Haneef, notwithstanding that not one jot of evidence has been tabled against him & the nation’s intelligence service, ASIO, has cleared him. That the Rudd government refuses to terminate the services of the wholly discredited & incompetent AFP Commissioner, Mick Keelty, & hold a Royal Commission into this sordid affair, simply confirms its status as a willing & venal accomplice.John Richardson

Australian Federal Police (AFP) Commissioner Mick Keelty will give evidence at the inquiry into the bungled terrorism case against Gold Coast doctor Mohamed Haneef on Monday.
The AFP only officially dropped its investigation into Dr Haneef late last month.
Evidence at the inquiry is given in private and transcripts will not be released publicly.
