what kind of extremist will you be?An Open Letter To Cindy Sheehan, Crawford, TexasBy Ralph NaderMay You Prevail Where Others Have Failed ‘From your grief over the loss of your son, Casey, in Iraq has come the courage to spotlight nationally the cowardly character trait of a President who refuses to meet with anyone or any group critical of his illegal, fabricated, deceptive war and occupation of that ravaged country. As a messianic militarist, Mr. Bush turned aside his own father's major advisers who warned him of the terroristic, political, and diplomatic perils to the United States from an invasion of Iraq. He refused to listen. Thirteen organizations in early 2003 separately wrote their President requesting a meeting to have him hear them out as to why they opposed his drumbeating, on-the-road-to war policies. These groups represented millions of Americans. They included church leaders, veterans, business, labor, retired intelligence officials, students, women and others. They are among those Americans who are not allowed through the carefully screened public audiences that are bused to arenas around the country to hear his repetitive slogans for carrying on this draining, boomeranging war. They each wrote President Bush but he never bothered even to acknowledge their letters simply to say no to the requested meetings. Not even the courtesy of a reply came from their White House.’

Bush ranch protest attracts hostility
Tuesday 16 August 2005, 23:38 Makka Time, 20:38 GMT [extract]
Hostility has grown against opponents of the Iraq war encamped outside US President George Bush's ranch after a driver mowed down white crosses planted along a road bearing the names of dead US soldiers.
In the latest act against the activists, a group of Crawford residents petitioned a court on Tuesday to restrict parking in the area around the encampment outside Bush's ranch, police said. The driver of a sports utility truck drove onto the grass verge of the road in the dark late on Monday to knock down the crosses which had been placed by activists supporting Cindy Sheehan, whose campaign against the Iraq war in Crawford has drawn widespread publicity.
On Tuesday morning, some of the crosses were still flattened or broken in the grass. The activists said the driver was detained by police and could face charges.
By last weekend, several hundred others had joined her protests, drawing heavy media coverage and jamming the roads of this normally languorous town of 750 in the central Texas plain. White House officials point out that the protestors' numbers have dropped to only around 50 since the weekend.
the tide of public opinion .....
A more positive & interesting ‘spin’ on the Cindy Sheehan phenomena Gus.
‘Cindy Sheehan has done much more than galvanize the anti-war movement; she signals a political tidal wave soon to crash down on the President's foreign policy.’

Cindy Sheehan. Fox News Supports OurTroops, Only if Their Parents Support Bush
I was just thinking about the post I made earlier today (August 8, 2005) about Tom DeLay's appearance on Your World . I was thinking about how Cavuto protected that crook and devoted eight minutes to his segment, but not one second of Cavuto's show was devoted to Cindy Sheehan. Cindy Sheehan is the mother of a 24 year old Army specialist who was killed in Iraq. She's camped out near Bush's Crawford, Texas ranch, waiting to ask Bush what her son fought and died for.
I decided to do a Google search of news (not the web) about Cindy Sheehan. I got 611 hits. One was an article at Fox News.com dated August 7 (the most recent article there). It began,
The mother of a fallen U.S. soldier who is holding a roadside peace vigil near President Bush's ranch shares the same grief as relatives mourning the deaths of Ohio Marines, yet their views about the war differ.
Comment: "Differ?" Those who "differ" with Sheehan are the blessed. They believe Bush. They don't question Bush. Read the article. As Fox has it, the Ohio relatives are far more patriotic than Cindy Sheehan. Sheehan is a troublemaker. So much for Fox's "support our troops" mantra. Dead is dead. I say, dying for your country is dying for your country, no matter what your parents believe. Support our troops. Each and every one of them.
