reflects Labor's 'bad week' ….. 

A Federal Labor frontbencher, Lindsay
Tanner, says the Australian public has sent a message to the Opposition, after
an opinion poll that suggests a loss of support.

The Newspoll published in The Australian newspaper shows Labor is 6 per cent
behind the Coalition on a two-party preferred basis and approval for the
Opposition Leader, Kim Beazley, has slipped to a new low. 

Eighteen per cent of the 1,143
voters surveyed on the weekend said they would prefer Mr Beazley as prime
minister, down from 27 per cent in late February.
It is Mr Beazley's worst result in the preferred prime minister category since
1996.
He says the poll reflects the internal squabbling of the party after bitter pre-selections
battles last week. 

Mr Tanner says Labor needs to
concentrate on the Government and not on internal matters.

"This poll reflects a
short-term judgement on a very bad week for Labor, when we spent far too much
time talking about ourselves," he said. 

"The Australian people's
message is clear."

Beazley dips further in polls
Opinion polls published in The Australian newspaper today indicate the federal Labor leader Kim Beazley's popularity is deteriorating.
According to Newspoll, the electorate still considers Mr Beazley more trustworthy than the Prime Minister, John Howard.
But the Labor leader has suffered a four-point drop in the category, to 59 per cent, while Mr Howard's popularity has improved.
The poll of 1,152 voters was taken during the period of the Cole inquiry into kickbacks paid to Saddam Hussein's former Iraqi regime.
And Mr Howard is now comfortably ahead of Mr Beazley in the category 'understands the major issues'.
It is the second day of poor polling results for Mr Beazley and Labor.
Yesterday's Newspoll showed Labor had lost its slender lead over the Government.
It also showed Mr Beazley had dissatisfaction levels similar to the worst results of former leader, Simon Crean.
And in the categories of 'Caring for People' and 'Managing the Economy', Mr Beazley's support has also declined, but he still has a lead over the Prime Minister in the 'caring' and 'likeable' categories.

Gus gambles:
With the way Labor drives, the Libs do not need the essential ingredients that seem to have propelled Bonsai to the presidency — electronic voting easily tampered with, funny confusing voting cards and goofed electoral roles...

I hope I.m wrong or that the "Greens" will fill the void ... Unless Kim's blabberatorium disease and Simon's "notthefoggiestideaium" syndrome are fully cured by a replacement... Rudd for rudder I say... stufff the factions...

Beazley brave-faced after dismal polls
The Federal Opposition Leader Kim Beazley is looking for a silver lining out of the party's disastrous performance in recent polls.

Two Newspolls published this week showed falls in popularity for Mr Beazley; 18 per cent of voters surveyed said they preferred him as prime minister, which is down from 27 per cent in February.

The latest poll showed voters still thought he was more trustworthy than John Howard, but his performance in that category had deteriorated, while Mr Howard's improved.

Mr Beazley says many people in the party have learned some very hard lessons about the perils of speaking out about internal divisions.

He has held discussions with a number of disgruntled frontbenchers in recent days, including Simon Crean and Julia Gillard, but he has told the Macquarie network he does not think a team meeting is warranted.

"Do you know the worst way to get unity in your team? Talk about unity," he said.

"Politics is not necessarily like sports - to get a team united in politics, talk about other people, you talk about what they need to be doing for the country.

"You only get unity in politics by thinking outside yourself."
