mythmaking .....
‘It should be small comfort that the
security establishments of the UK and the USA - and the "terrorism
experts" who inform them and wheedle billions of dollars out of them for
bomb puffers and face recognition gizmos and remote gait analyzers and similar
hi-tech phrenology gear - have bought the Hollywood binary liquid explosive
myth, and have even acted upon it. We've given extraordinary credit to a collection of
jihadist wannabes with an exceptionally poor grasp of the mechanics of attacking
a plane, whose only hope of success would have been a pure accident. They would
have had to succeed in spite of their own ignorance and incompetence, and in
spite of being under police surveillance for a year. But the Hollywood myth of binary liquid explosives now
moves governments and drives public policy. We have reacted to a movie plot.
Liquids are now banned in aircraft cabins (while crystalline white powders
would be banned instead, if anyone in charge were serious about security).
Nearly everything must now go into the hold, where adequate amounts of
explosives can easily be detonated from the cabin with cell phones, which are
generally not banned.’ Mass
Murder In The Skies: Was The Plot Feasible? and, whilst on the subject of mythmaking ….. ‘If the alleged plot to attack airliners flying from London is true – remember the lies that led to the invasion of Iraq, and to the raid on a "terrorist cell" in east London – then one person ultimately is to blame, as he was on July 7 last year. They were Blair's bombs then; who doesn't believe that 52 Londoners would be alive today had the prime minister refused to join Bush in his piratical attack on Iraq? A parliamentary committee has said as much, as have MI5, the Foreign Office, Chatham House, and the polls. A senior Metropolitan Police officer, Paul Stephenson, claims the Heathrow plot "was intended to be mass murder on an unimaginable scale." The most reliable independent surveys put civilian deaths in Iraq, as a result of the invasion by Bush and Blair, above 100,000. The difference between the Heathrow scare and Iraq is that mass murder on an unimaginable scale has actually happened in Iraq. By any measure of international law, from Nuremberg to the Geneva accords, Blair is a major prima facie war criminal. The charges against him grow. The latest is his collusion with the Israeli state in its deliberate, criminal attacks on civilians. While Lebanese children were being buried beneath Israeli bombs, he refused to condemn their killers or even to call on them to desist. That a cease-fire was negotiated owed nothing to him, except its disgraceful delay.’
crying wolf .....‘Lieutenant-Colonel (ret.) Nigel Wylde, a former senior British Army Intelligence Officer, has suggested that the police and government story about the "terror plot" revealed on 10th August was part of a "pattern of lies and deceit. British and American government officials have described the operation which resulting in the arrest of 24 mostly British Muslim suspects, as a resounding success. Thirteen of the suspects have been charged, and two released without charges. According to security sources, the terror suspects were planning to board up to ten civilian airliners and detonate highly volatile liquid explosives on the planes in a spectacular terrorist operation. The liquid explosives - either TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide), DADP (diacetone diperoxide) or the less sensitive HMTD (hexamethylene triperoxide diamine) - were reportedly to be made on board the planes by mixing sports drinks with a peroxide-based household gel and then be detonated using an MP3 player or mobile phone. But Lt. Col. Wylde, who was awarded the Queen's Gallantry Medal for his command of the Belfast Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit in 1974, described this scenario as a "fiction." Creating liquid explosives is a "highly dangerous and sophisticated task," he states, one that requires not only significant chemical expertise but also appropriate equipment.’ August Terror Plot Is A 'fiction' Underscoring Police Failures

masterminds .....
‘The Briton alleged to be the ‘mastermind’ behind the airline terror plot could be innocent of any significant involvement, sources close to the investigation claim.
Rashid Rauf, whose detention in Pakistan was the trigger for the arrest of 23 suspects in Britain, has been accused of taking orders from Al Qaeda’s ‘No3’ in Afghanistan and sending money back to the UK to allow the alleged bombers to buy plane tickets.
But after two weeks of interrogation, an inch-by-inch search of his house and analysis of his home computer, officials are now saying that his extradition is ‘a way down the track’ if it happens at all.
It comes amid wider suspicions that the plot may not have been as serious, or as far advanced, as the authorities initially claimed.
Analysts suspect Pakistani authorities exaggerated Rauf’s role to appear ‘tough on terrorism’ and impress Britain and America.
A spokesman for Pakistan’s Interior Ministry last night admitted that ‘extradition at this time is not under consideration’.
