on military "intelligence"...

MI6

In his autobiography, On The Chariot Wheel, published in 1975, J C Masterman wrote about his difficult dealings with the authorities at MI5, in regard to publish his notes, now in a book form about The Double-Cross System. He started to make noises in the early 1960s, but at the time, the Profumo affair broke out and other « security lapses » had brought MI5 under a bad light. The boffins of MI5 did not want to attract further attention by a book that for all account would be fairly controversial to say the least. The Oxford Mail described J C Masterman’s revelations as « a game played with dynamite in which those who could’t play were executed… »

His frustration was explained by Masterman himself :

« Looking back over the whole episode I realized how strange it was that I, who all my life had been a supporter of the Establishment, should become, at eighty, a successful rebel. Perhaps contrary to the accepted view, the old are more restless than the young. They have little time to spare and become impatient »

A former spy, then a double agent, Dusko Popov, relates his dealing with Masterman :

«  He was not only an outstanding teacher and historian but also a Wimbledon tennis player and a member of the Olympic hockey team. Cool and calculating, he tempered my impulsiveness, and it was thanks to his guiding rein that I came through unscathed. »

All this presented here, in relation to the Skripal case of « poisoning » as sauced by MI5.

Masterman had managed to keep a manuscript of his notes about his operation of the Double-Cross System or the XX. He eventually sent the manuscript to America where the publisher made a deal with MI5, through Masterman’s lawyer, Christopher Hammer, himself  a former MI5 operative. The names of some people would remain secret but the core of the work could be published, without breaching the Secrets Act.

I have discussed on this site a few recent cases that I believe were XX, Double-Crosses. The purpose of this System is to create « false information » that are disseminated through credible sources, either agents, double agents or « pigeons » — pigeons being people who are employed for such dissemination without knowing that they have been « manipulated » including most mass media.

Either in time of war or peace, fake information, false facts are premium to make people believe in truths that are actually crap. It’s a way to control the high side of the street. Masterman’s manuscript became the textbook for deception at MI5 and MI6. He had been excellent at it. His book is far more reliable than that work of fiction, Spycatcher, by Peter Wright, who was defended against the authorities by a young lawyer named Malcolm Turnbull. Spycatcher makes no real sense, while The Double Cross System is loaded with amazing facts, facts of deception. Mostly successful deception to fool the Germans during WWII, but the principles have been used for a long time, even during peace time, like the Skripal affair…

In Master of spies : the memoirs of General Frantisek Moravec, Masterman explains his rationale in the preface:

« If the words ‘Military Intelligence’ are flung at me I respond immediately with « Valmy ». Though only a cannonade and not a battle, Valmy was a turning point in the history of Europe. The Duke of Brunswick, invading Revolutionary France, turned back — " he did not know what was on the other side of the hill. "

There is the classic example of the failure of military Intelligence — the failure to know… the function of a military service is « to know » — to know what are the intention of an enemy, to know his plans and resources, the disposition of his troops and their morale. »

To this, Masterman added his acquired profession of deceptioner. We all should know by now that the war on Saddam was not due to « intelligence failure ». This woud have led to a major catastrophe including the loss of many American soldiers, considering that the US Army did « not know » where the Weapons of Mass destruction were hidden.

So the only sane conclusion for anyone, was that the « intelligence had been designed to deceive » , to deceive mostly the ordinary punters at home who have not a clue about the grand deceitful ways wars are fought. And the greatest deception that followed here was to tell us that « the intelligence was flawed ». This was bullshit. The intelligence had been « designed » to suit war. See the trilogy.

So what is on today’s menu ? Putin. Russia. China. Putin. Russia. China. Putin. Russia. China. Putin. Russia. China.

And MI6 is still doing XX (double crosses), the latest one possibly being the Skripal’s poisoning. The full story will never come out but by now, none of the facts pushed by the UK government add up to anything plausible. In comparison to J C Masterman master-profession, the boffins at MI5 are amateurs and can be exposed as bullshitters.

We cannot trust MI5’s « revelations » any more. We never could anyway...

a Russian-intelligence asset and his handler...

The upcoming Trump/Putin summit is hampered by the crazed portrait of Russia painted by presstitutes. Jonathan Chait, Amy Knight, Max Bergmann, Yaroslav Trofimov, Roger Cohen, and the rest of the conscious or de facto CIA assets that comprise the Western presstitute media have turned Putin into a superhuman who controls election outcomes throughout the West, murders people without rhyme or reason, and has President Trump under his thumb doing Putin’s bidding. Who could imagine a more extreme conspiracy theory?

Jonathan Chait in New York magazine writes that “the dark crevices of the Russia scandal run deep,” so deep that “it would be dangerous not to consider the possibility that the summit is less a negotiation between two heads of state than a meeting between a Russian-intelligence asset and his handler.”

So here is Chait, who brands truth-tellers “conspiracy theorists” coming up with the greatest conspiracy theory of our time that President Trump has been a Kremlim asset since 1987. Chait provides a ”crazy quilt of connections” to illustrate his absurd conspiracy theory that “it’s not necessary to believe that Putin always knew he might install Trump in the Oval Office to find the following situation highly plausible: Sometime in 2015, the Russian president recognized that he had, in one of his unknown number of intelligence files, an inroad into American presidential politics.”

Chait believes that Russia is also behind the UK’s exit from the European Union. “Driving Britain out of the European Union advanced the decades-long Russian goal of splitting Western nations apart, and Russia found willing allies on the British far right.”

Chait gets even more conspiratorial. He admits that Paul Manafort’s indictments for alleged white collar crimes are not related to Trump’s election, having occurred years previously in Ukraine. Nevertheless, Chait is certain that Manafort is shielding Trump even though according to Chait Manafort is facing many years in prison. Why would Manafort shield Trump? Chait’s answer:

One way to make sense of his behavior is the possibility that Manafort is keeping his mouth shut because he’s afraid of being killed. That speculation might sound hyperbolic, but there is plenty of evidence to support it. In February, a video appeared on YouTube showing Manafort’s patron Deripaska on his yacht with a Belarusian escort named Anastasia Vashukevich.”

Chait’s article is long and heavily weighted with innuendo. Chait, or whoever wrote the article, possibly the person who wrote the Steele Dossier, collects every disparaging fact and fantasy about Trump and assembles them in a way to paint a portrait of a person who must also, without much doubt, be a Russian agent. If the public can be convinced of this, the military/security complex can assassinate Trump and blame Putin for getting rid of an asset who was exposed by the Russiagate investigation, no longer useful, and perhaps prepared to spill the beans.

Another conspiracy theorist, Amy Knight, writes that “The real question is where does the Russian criminal state end and the criminal underworld begin, and how do they work together in what amounts to a new murder incorporated?”

Yaroslav Trofimov tells us in the Wall Street Journal (July 7) that “Putin maps out his own empire” to replace the lost Soviet one.

In the Washington Post Max Bergmann tells us that Trump is going to sell out NATO in Helsinki. This line leads to the supposition that Putin is using Trump to unleash the Russian military on Europe. Many conspiracy theorists have come together on the view that first the Baltic States will be invaded and then Putin will move on to Germany and the rest of Europe. The New York Times’ Roger Cohen even pulls Marine Le Pen into the plot which widens to include ethnically cleansing the West of the refugees from Washington’s wars.

This is the level of absurdity that the American media delivers to the public’s understanding of foreign affairs.

Dr. Paul Craig Roberts was Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy and associate editor of the Wall Street Journal. He was columnist for Business Week, Scripps Howard News Service, and Creators Syndicate. He has had many university appointments. His internet columns have attracted a worldwide following. Roberts’ latest books are The Failure of Laissez Faire Capitalism and Economic Dissolution of the WestHow America Was Lost, and The Neoconservative Threat to World Order.

ruskie spies and american pies...

WASHINGTON — Rod J. Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, on Friday announced new charges against 12 Russian intelligence officers accused of hacking the Democratic National Committee, the Clinton presidential campaign and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. The charges came just a few days before President Trump is expected to meet with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in Helsinki, Finland.

The 11-count indictment includes charges of conspiracy by the Russian intelligence officials against the United States, money laundering and attempts to break into state election boards and other government agencies.

The indictment is part of the investigation led by Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel, into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential campaign.

Russia has denied that its government had any role in the hacking that preceded the presidential election. Mr. Rosenstein discussed the charges during a news conference at the Justice Department in Washington as Mr. Trump met with Queen Elizabeth II in Britain, creating a bizarre split screen on cable news of presidential pomp and an ongoing investigation that has ensnared some of the president’s aides.

the master of fake contradicting confusion...

US President Donald Trump insists that he did not criticise British Prime Minister Theresa May during an interview this week with The Sun newspaper in which he questioned the UK leader's handling of Brexit.

"It's called fake news," Mr Trump declared.

During a joint news conference with Ms May, Mr Trump said he had "a lot of respect for the Prime Minister".

The President said the newspaper didn't include the "tremendous things" he said about Ms May in the interview.

"Unfortunately, there was a story that was done which was generally fine but it didn't put in what I said about the Prime Minister and I said a tremendous thing," he said.

Ms May also glossed over the comments.

Mr Trump said he looked forward to finalising a post-Brexit trade deal with Britain, marking an abrupt change from the Sun newspaper article, which quoted him saying Ms May's strategy would kill such an agreement.

preparing the pitch...

WASHINGTON — The special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election indicted 12 Russian intelligence officers on Friday for hacking the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton presidential campaign. The indictment came just three days before President Trump is planning to meet with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia in Helsinki, Finland.

The 29-page indictment is the most detailed accusation by the American government to date of the Russian state’s role in the 2016 election interference, and includes a litany of brazen Russian subterfuge operations designed to foment chaos in the months before the election. From phishing attacks to gain access to Democratic operatives, to money laundering, to attempts to break into state elections boards, the indictment details a vigorous and complex effort by Russia’s top military intelligence service to sabotage the campaign of Mr. Trump’s rival, Hillary Clinton.

Now the question that has been hanging on the US Presidency for a while is : Has Putin managed to influence the US elections ? And by what means ? Has Putin managed to perform a double-cross ? A double cross being an ‘undetectable’ act of disinformation (read from top). And why would this indictment "happen" just now? Well, when one is about to "negociate" one needs some Trumps in one's hand. One needs to prepare the pitch to suit one's team... Putin would be aware of that. He is an expert on "intelligence".

Back to Masterman, what is the XX (double-cross system) for?:

1. To control the enemy system, or as much of it as we could get our hands on

2. To catch fresh spies when they appeared

3. To gain knowledge of the personalities and methods of the German Secret Service

4. To obtain information about the code and cypher work of the German service

5. To get evidence of the enemy plans and intentions from the questions asked by them

6. To influence enemy plans by the answers sent to the enemy

7. To deceive the enemy about our plans and intentions

By mean of the double-agent system we did much more than practise a large-scale deception through double-agents : by means of the double-agents system we actively ran and controlled the German espionage system in this country [UK].

So far, all that Mueller has ‘uncovered’ is pitifully inadequate to bame the Russians for Donald’s victory. Our Mr Murdoch did far far more damage to Hillary than a couple of "Russian" pictures on Facebook...

The next question would be why would Vladimir Putin interfere with the US presidential elections?

This is the crux of the matter, though it could only be academic, since we do not know if Putin ordered a Russian interference in these elections. And the answer would be that Putin would be mad to interfere, though he would prefer Trump to Hillary. But he would have had to know that both were "loonies" in their own rights.

Ahead of President Donald Trump’s upcoming meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Democrats and Republicans in the United States have shared worries about the possibility of a cozy meeting between the two, Reuters wrote.

After Trump called  Putin a “competitor” and “not my enemy” on Thursday, lawmakers from both parties have voiced stern warnings to Trump not to go soft on the Russian leader when two presidents sit down together in Helsinki on Monday.

“Putin is not America’s friend, nor merely a competitor. Putin is America’s enemy — not because we wish it so, but because he has chosen to be,” Republican Senator John McCain said is a statement.

“It is up to President Trump to hold Putin accountable for his actions during the meeting in Helsinki. Failure to do so would be a serious indictment of his stewardship of American leadership in the world,” he added.

While Donald Trump sees his Monday meeting with Putin as a chance to ease bilateral tensions, legislators on Capitol Hill fear that Trump will fail to put hard questions to Putin over Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and will go soft on the Russian leader to the detriment of America’s allies in Europe, Reuters wrote.

“Easiest” Part of the Trip

Concerns about Donald Trump’s commitment to America’s European  allies  cast a long shadow over the NATO summit that closed up shop in Brussels on Thursday.

Trump headed for Europe on a confrontational note after he  repeatedly demanded in recent days that NATO countries ramp up their defense spending and stop freeloading on the US for security.

https://sputniknews.com/us/201807131066313850-mccain-trump-putin-summit/

Why would Putin be the enemy of the USA ? Trump clashed with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday, saying that Germany was “totally controlled by Russia” because it imports large amounts of Russian natural gas.

He also angered US allies by telling reporters in Brussels that he expected his upcoming meeting with Vladimir Putin to be “the easiest” part of his week-long European trip.

Why is Trump BAITING the Europeans?

Is this the end of diplomcy as we knew it ?

Here I repeat my "interpretations" in a US panto...:

History should be explained from the sewers of machinations. Read on military "intelligence"... (above) to get an inkling of what Old Gus is talking about.

It's a dog eats dog world out there, in the rat holes. Actually it's more of a "who is going to pump more oil world". The sanctions on Iran and Russia are only there to promote the oil from the Saudis. The tariffs on "aluminum" are only there to annoy the Chinese billionaires who have been profiting from a few US "crooked" deals. Obama did not underestimate the Islamic State (IS, Daesh, ISIS, ISIL). It CREATED IT (don't tell me the CIA "did not know" that ISIS was being "created") and used IS to overthrow the "regime" of Assad, or at least maintain a Yankee foothold (as ISIS became really smelly, so we had to "intervene to prevent ISIS taking over" — clever, no? While bombing Assad's own troops and destroying more of Iraq, like Mosul...) in those countries, Syria and Iraq, that would become fully independent with regimes that by all account are far better than the "regime" of the Saudis, which in turn is used on our behalf to throw out Assad and destroy Yemen... So we are still in there advising Iraq on how to deal with "rebels" and annoying Syria by stirring the Kurds as well. Goodness!... The Russians messed up our little plan, but we're squeezing the Russians' nuts and Iran's turbans with sanctions to let them know who's boss. The Europeans have to follow us on this otherwise we won't buy their Mercs and their fuming cheating VW...

My Trump pantomime in Europe is designed to unsettle the Europeans by not knowing which side their bread is going to be buttered. Not new. Since Nixon and his "petrol crisis", the Europeans have been left floundering on energy supply. This was unfortunately stabilised by the Russians (USSR). They have been told to hate Russia, especially hate their "gas". Look, Germany's energy rely "68 per cent (?)" on the Russians. We, Americans, can give you a better deal on our "shale gas" — a bit more expensive mind you but so much more beautiful — and it comes in big US boats, registered in the Bahamas. And should you get involved with a new pipeline from Russia, we'll spank your bottoms. And we only demonise Assad because he runs a socialist government, a bit like Cuba. We hate socialism far more than terrorism, because terrorism is only a small loonies' game (that's why we had to destroy ISIS, because it tried to become a "government", while it was only supposed to be a terrorist organisation) while socialism is an annoying structured style of government that spreads profits to all, via free education and free healthcare... Is this not mad? And Assad does not want to let our friends, the Saudis, run a gas pipeline through Syria, because that would upset his mates: our enemy Russia, as confirmed by my friend John McCain.

And by the way, the "Arab Spring" was started by the CIA (under Obama), to unsettle (destroy) the Shiites (Iran) and promote the Sunnis, our "friends", all in the name of the Petrodollar. That's why we are demonising Russia and China and their friends for trying to deal petrol in Yuans and Roubles... What is the world coming to? Macron is a puppet of the US aristocracy (through the Soros "democratic" media), May is a pissy weak dictator which we love nonetheless because she speaks American, Merkel is a trouble-maker in trouble because we (under Obama) made sure Europe would be invaded by "refugees", "migrants" and "Muslims" to divide it into bits — by destroying that other good-for-nothing Libya (Gaddafi) that wanted to sell its oil in a PanAfrican currency.

So as you can see, our CIA has been very very busy, our Pentagon has been busy, and our Secretary of State has been replaced to better represent our unilateral values... It takes a lot of spies to manage all this crap, so we give you the illusion of "America First", but in reality we want you to tighten your butts and idolize Yankeedom. Yankeedom is presently called Donald. It would have been called Hillarydom had my friend Murdoch not salvaged Neoconservatism. If you don't pray to the dollar, and this go for you as well, the Chinese, we will provoke you, annoy the shit out of you, until you make a mistake and we will denounce your bad will... It takes one to know another... And so on and on and on... Since the time of the American Revolution, our dollar has been designed to conquer the world. Full stop. Don't delude yourself with fake gods or any other currencies. Capice?

And we love the Nazis in Ukraine and the pseudo-Nazis in Israel... Global warming? you're kidding me....

meanwhile, at the gnome-killing gaze department...

AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT SILENT ON OPCW REPORT

 By James O’Neill*

On 7th April 2018 an incident occurred in the Syrian city of Douma, 10 km North east of the capital Damascus. It was alleged, initially by the jihadi extremists occupying the city that a nerve gas attack had been carried out by Syrian government forces.

On the basis of this allegation from sources with a well-known record of, at best, dissembling, and some photos provided by the MI6 front organisation known as the ‘White Helmets’, some western governments were quick to condemn the Syrian government and by extension its Russian, Iranian and Hezbollah allies.

Before an investigation had been carried out, and in the absence of any reliable evidence, the United States led “coalition” embarked on a massive strike by missiles on Syrian targets.

On 9th of April 2018 the office of the Foreign Minister Julie Bishop issued a press release, condemning the “reported chemical weapons attack by the Syrian regime (sic) which killed 70 civilians and injured hundreds more.” It went on to claim that Syria had used “chemical weapons on multiple occasions.”

Following the air and missile strikes by the United States, the United Kingdom and France, DFAT issued a further press release on 14th April 2018. The statement said that “today (14th April) the US, UK and France responded forcefully to the Syrian regime’s illegal use of chemical weapons on 7th April in Douma. Australia supports these strikes, which demonstrates a calibrated, proportionate and targeted response. They send an unequivocal message to the Assad regime and its backers, Russia and Iran, that the use of chemical weapons will not be tolerated.”

There was much more in the press release in the same vein. The dubious source of the information was totally disregarded, as was the relevant international law.

Just like the Mad Queen in Alice in Wonderland, Bishop wanted the verdict before the evidence.

The presence of United States, United Kingdom, French and Australian forces in Syria has no basis in international law, a factor disregarded repeatedly by the Australian government and by the Australian media since Australia joined the “coalition” attacks on Syria in September 2015.

The Australian government has refused to release the legal opinion it obtained about its proposed involvement in Syria. It would be a fair inference, in accord with the overwhelming weight of international legal opinion, that the opinion expressed in the suppressed document stated that the “coalition” government’s involvement in Syria was illegal under international law.

That was a view reinforced as recently as 28th of June 2018 in a report presented to the German parliament by one of its research committees. The German report (available only in German) rejects the principal arguments advanced by the United States and its allies (including Australia), namely, that Syria was “unable or unwilling” to defend itself against the attacks of ISIS and like groups; and intervention was possible under the self-defence provisions of Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. Bishop had advanced both of these arguments in December 2015 on ABC National radio.

She also advanced the argument that Australia was acting in Syria at the request of the Iraqi government, something that government promptly denied.

That denial went unreported in the Australian mainstream media.

As the German report reinforces, none of these arguments have any validity in international law. The Australian mainstream media, perhaps not surprisingly given its unquestioning support for Australia’s involvement in Syria, has been silent as to the existence of and conclusions of the German report.

When the United States and its allies attacked Syrian targets following the alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma in April, it was not only the government that was supportive. According to The Australian of 12 April 2018, Labor’s defence spokesman Richard Marles said that he would support an American airstrike, as Labor had done with regard to the now discredited alleged chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun.

There has now been a further development. The OPCW, the organisation responsible for investigating allegations of chemical weapons use (among other things) has now produced its interim report on its investigation into the alleged Douma chemical weapons attack. The most important paragraph in the interim report reads as follows:

” The result shows no organophosphorus nerve agents or their degradation products were detected in the environmental samples or in the plasma samples taken from alleged casualties.”

This conclusion is entirely consistent with what the Syrian government and its allies said at the outset: there was no chemical weapons attack, and certainly not by them. They also said at the time that this was a public relations stunt by the White Helmets and their jihadist friends.

From the point of view of the jihadists, this stunt produced the desired result – a chorus of condemnation of the Syrians and their allies, and the added bonus of having the Americans and their allies bomb Syrian government positions. Not for the first or last time was an this example of the US and its allies assisting the terrorist cause.

What is also completely unsurprising is the studied silence of the Australian government and the Labor opposition to the OPCW report. Foreign Minister Bishop, so quick to condemn the Syrian government in unequivocal terms before the OPCW had conducted its investigation, cannot now bring herself to apologise for her premature rush to judgement.

That the attack by the United States and its allies was contrary to international law, as is their very presence in Syria, is also something that consistently escapes her attention.

For a government so fond of stating its belief in, and support for, the “rules based international order”, it is another example of the manifest hypocrisy of their position. A belief in the supremacy of international law demonstrated in actual adherence, as we have also seen in numerous other examples, is clearly something that is selectively applied by this government.

On the basis of past performance, including but not limited to Australia’s involvement in multiple illegal wars waged for and on behalf of its “joined at the hip” American ally, the silence from the Labor opposition is similarly unsurprising.

As Machiavelli said, “one who deceives will always find those who allow themselves to be deceived.”

It is long past the time when Australia ceased its posturings on the international stage. Actually adhering to international law would be a good start.

Acknowledging the findings of the German parliamentary committee that Russia’s presence in Syria is legal, but that of the United States and its “coalition” allies is not, and that they should accordingly leave would also be a step in the right direction.

NYMAG's claim that Donald Trump was "recruited" by the KGB in 1987 during a visit to Moscow to try to build a hotel continues to make waves on social media. The wild accusation was just too much for some Twitter users.

NY Mag's article, titled "What if Trump Has Been a Russian Asset Since 1987," alleges that political statements made by the real estate mogul in the late 1980s seemed to be "built around themes that dovetailed closely with Soviet foreign-policy goals."

The article claimed (without offering any substantive proof) that the Kremlin might have gained dirt on Trump during his 1987 or 2013 Moscow trips, and argued (again based on conjecture) that the businessman may have been reluctant to publish his tax returns ahead of the 2016 election due to what were effectively "bribes" from Russia in the form of property purchases by wealthy individuals who happened to be from the former USSR.

The article suggested that Russia had the perfect "motive to engineer a caper like this," mentioned in the long-discredited "Steele dossier," created by a former British intelligence agent working for the Democratic National Committee, and discussed how Trump's foreign policy supposedly serves Russia's interests (notwithstanding the fact that Trump's White House has bombed Syria, expanded sanctions, closed Russian consulates, expelled Russian diplomats, expanded NATO's presence in Eastern Europe, and started a nuclear arms race).

By 2001, the US "intelligence" agencies had been briefed BY THE US GOVERNMENT to find ways to go to war against Saddam Hussein. This desire FOR WAR had long been held in the Conservative ranks on both sides of politics. They are the "hawks".

Al Gore did not win the Presidency.  Bush Junior did. The Supreme Court that decided on the validity of the Florida votes was conservatively biased of course. The Florida vote had been rigged by conservative forces, but the Democrat did not challenge further.

Under George W Bush, the "intelligence" agencies did what the President wanted: MANUFACTURE fake "Saddam has weapons of destruction" dossiers so Bush could go to war. This MANUFACTURING OF FAKE information was later acknowledge as "intelligence failure". Bullshit. It was disinformation 101 from the start.

After the "Mission Accomplished" rigmarole, the real shit hit the fan, slowly.

5,500 US soldiers died in Iraq, more than 20,000 got maimed, others, injured recovered, though they nearly all suffer from mental health problems because of what they did and saw. Between 250,000 and one million Iraqi people lost their life as a DIRECT consequence of this little war. About 4 million people got displaced/exiled.

Under Obama, the intelligence build some different fake documentation — mainly fake cases for war against Libya and Syria, while fiddling with Egypt's own problems, with the help of the Saudis. When Russia prevented Syria to fall under the US/Saudi control (IS had gone a few gory steps too far and had to be reined in), the "hate Russia" campaign hit a new high. By then, the return of Crimea to Russia was fresh and had already soured the belief that no-one could really try to challenge the US desires, unless they were evil or mad or both. As Obama's tenure was coming to a close, the next President, Hillary Clinton would bomb Damascus and teach the Russians a lesson they would not forget.

The "intelligence" agencies were already preparing fake info with the "Assad gasses his own people" mantras under various guises, and using the "White Helmets" to provide the beef (fake beef). These "gassing" stories would make everyone in the west squirm at the callousness of Assad. Journos were busy polishing these stories, without any verification whatsoever. Hey it's war out there. The "moderate" Al Qaeda rebels (remember, they had downed the twin towers in New York) were now working for the Americans, under strict supervision of the "intelligence" agencies to defeat Assad. Many of these rogues soon turned into IS.

Assad, since 2007, and the previous rulers of Syria, since 1949, had been thorns in the side of the Empire, of which the Saudis are the EXCLUSIVE Muslim end, thereof.

But the Russians came along and spoiled the "inevitable" result. Still mopping up the last of the 'rebel" areas, Assad won the war against the US sponsored personnel (including IS). Meanwhile, it could be shown that the US "intelligence" in Syria was bunkum (manufactured). The punitive bombing by the US and the European against Assad's "gassing of his own people" fizzled because the Russians announced that should one Russian hair in Syria be disturbed during this "punitive bombing", the Russians would respond in kind and sink all the ships and destroy all the planes involved in that mission.

At this level, you can be sure that the US "intelligence" agencies knew that the RUSSIANS WERE NOT JOKING and had the firepower to do so within less than half an hour EXACTLY.

This really pissed off the US "intelligence" agencies that by then had already been embroiled with trying to unsettle President Trump.

The "intelligence" agencies had been groomed for a victorious Hillary. More than 90 per cent of the personnel, including the head, in the CIA was favoring  Hillary. When by a Murdoch inspired miracle, Trump won, the "intelligence" agencies went bananas. They had been briefed to manufacture the "hate the Russians" for Hillary's Presidency — and they also had been concocting some Putin-Trump "connectivity" (fake), just in case.

The nightmare for the US "intelligence" agencies had just begun. Under Obama they had developed and continued their "hate Russia" portfolio — while Trump, during his campaign made noises about the US becoming friend with Russia. This was why they had been snooping on the Trump-Putin connectivity before the elections. Being Friends with Russia was contrary to all what the "intelligence" agencies had been working for: destroy Russia. Some of the CIA and FBI personnel got really shitty and declared that "Trump shall never become President." Tough titties.

Meanwhile, of all other nightmares, a honest Bernie was stirring the pot for "crooked" Hillary with SOCIALIST sentiments, which should be the main base of the Democrats, not the rich bozzocrats that were financing Hillary's campaign. Wikileaks revealed emails that PROVED the DNC was secretly doing its best to DISHONESTLY sink Bernie Sanders and favor Hillary Clinton. The FBI was in a quandary. Comey became the fall-guy. He went on a limb by himself to say that these emails were TRUE and were seriously embarrassing for the DNC. The problem was to find WHO had released these emails to Wikileaks. The simpler solution was to manufacture some more anti-Russian propaganda. Guccifer became the next fall guy — possibly created by a savvy US private "intelligence" network to be attributed to Russians in Russia, then, slowly, Guccifer would be shown as coming directly from the Kremlin. For two years now, the "intelligence" agencies have tried to "expose" this Trump-Putin connection and they still do not have a single proof. NONE. They even CANNOT MANUFACTURE SOMETHING PLAUSIBLE. Even Trump is aware of what the "intelligence" have been trying to concoct, against him and against the Russians. The Russians are aware as well. They know.

So some journalists at the Washington Post are getting their knickers into knots. They have NO IDEA, yet they pontificate with gravitas:

Opinion By David Ignatius Columnist

The American intelligence community has never faced a problem quite like President Trump — a commander in chief who is suspected by a growing number of Republicans and Democrats of deferring to Russia’s views over the recommendations of his own intelligence agencies.

“There are almost two governments now,” worries John McLaughlin, a former acting CIA director. He discusses the Trump conundrum with the same vexation as a dozen other former intelligence officials I’ve spoken with since the president’s shockingly acquiescent performance onstage Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

How are current intelligence chiefs handling this unprecedented situation? They are operating carefully but correctly, trying to balance their obligations to the president with the oaths they have sworn to protect and defend the Constitution. The officials continue to serve the elected president, but they are also signaling that they work for the American people.

Daniel Coats, the director of national intelligence, admirably rebuffed Trump on Monday, a few hours after the president seemed to accept Putin’s denial of meddling in the 2016 election. Coats gave the White House a heads-up, but he didn’t clear his statement. He believed it was essential to defend the intelligence community immediately.

FBI Director Christopher A. Wray made a similar show of independence here Wednesday at the Aspen Security Forum, saying the Russia investigation wasn’t a “witch hunt,” as Trump claims, and affirming, “Russia attempted to intervene with the last election, and . . . it continues to engage in malign influence operations to this day.”

Yes, the intelligence" agencies have never faced a problem quite like Trump. He knows they are bullshitting on the Russian front, and he knows they HAVE SPIED ON HIM DURING THE ELECTION CAMPAIGN, contrarily to the spirit of the process. Trump cannot say too loud that the "intelligence" agencies have been crapping about, but he can say this or that to the world — and NOT TRUST THEM, UNTIL THEY SHOW SOME respect. Meanwhile He wriggles...

Here, we must mention that Trump ISN'T AN IDIOT. Mueller's investigation is not so much designed against him but to protect the "intelligence" agencies from their own shit. Trump knows he cannot say certain things that would show the dishonesty of the "intelligence" agencies, but he can "ignore their advice". He would have his own team working on how to defuse this mexican stand off (secretly working to expose Mueller's crap): how to expose the dishonesty of the "intelligence" agencies without destroying them? Another "intelligence failure" explanation? Will Mueller resign because...?

This was a similar situation that destroyed the SDECE (French spy agency) in France, 1969. By then General de Gaulle had enough and retired. Trump will carry on, triumphantly... The others will fold their tent. Am I a seer or a fiction writer?... We'll see...

unnamed source to give unnamed non-proof...

The report says the US Embassy in Moscow fired her quietly last year to avoid embarrassment.

A Russian woman allegedly spied on the US Secret Service on behalf of Russian counterintelligence while she was working at the US Embassy in Moscow, says a report by The Guardian, citing an unnamed source in US intelligence.

According to the report, the woman was hired by the US State Department and worked for the Secret Service as a part of her duties at the embassy. As a consequence of those duties, she had access to the embassy's intranet and email systems, which could have possibly enabled her to access highly confidential material, such as the schedules of the US president and vice president.

The woman only came to the attention of US counterintelligence in 2016, after a routine security sweep determined she had regular meetings with representatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB), Russia's counterintelligence service. The investigation was performed by two investigators from the US State Department Regional Security Office (RSO), the report says.

The unnamed source told the newspaper that the RSO sounded an alarm in early 2017, but the Secret Service did not launch a proper inquiry of its own. Instead, the woman was quietly fired by the Secret Service months after the RSO's warning, possibly to avoid any embarrassment, The Guardian's report says.

"The Secret Service is trying to hide the breach by firing [her]," the source told the newspaper. "The damage was already done but the senior management of the Secret Service did not conduct any internal investigation to assess the damage and to see if [she] recruited any other employees to provide her with more information."

"Only an intense investigation by an outside source can determine the damage she has done," the source added.

"The discovery of a suspected FSB mole on its staff within the US embassy in Moscow would be hugely damaging to [the Secret Service's] reputation and could have severe consequences for the safety of other Secret Service staff and those it is mandated to protect," the Guardian report reads.

-------

According to a statement by the Secret Service, "the article is wrought with irresponsible and inaccurate reporting based on the claims of 'anonymous' sources." Russian nationals in Moscow are employed "to assist our attaches and agency by engaging the Russian government, including the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the Russian Ministry of the Interior (MVD) and the Russian Federal Protective Service (FSO) in the furtherance of Secret Service interests."

The US Secret Service, a Department of Homeland Security division usually associated with the protection of the US president and other high-ranking officials, actually has a broader mission, formulated as the "protection of the nation's leaders and the financial and critical infrastructure of the United States." Though DHS was formed in 2004, the Secret Service was created in 1865 to combat the proliferation of counterfeit currency.

is this a "plant"...?

Britain’s Guardian newspaper is reporting that a Russian spy has been caught working in the US Embassy in Moscow. It’s alleged she had been there for over a decade and was cunningly disguised as a Russian.

In revelations that frankly pose the question of whether America’s security agencies should continue to use the term ‘intelligence’ when describing themselves, the Guardian alleges that the woman had actually been hired by the US Secret Service.

It’s also claimed that having given the Russian national the all-clear to work at the very heart of America’s diplomatic mission in Moscow, they then allowed her access “to the agency’s intranet and email systems,” including “the schedules of the president – current and past, vice-president and their spouses, including Hillary Clinton.” The Secret Service was either working at a level of genius mere mortals cannot begin to understand, or they were being incredibly stupid. I know where my money is.

The Guardian reports that: “The woman had been working for the Secret Service for years before she came under suspicion in 2016 during a routine security sweep conducted by two investigators from the US Department of State’s Regional Security Office (RSO).

“They established she was having regular and unauthorised meetings with members of the FSB, Russia’s principal security agency.”

If this story is true, surely not even the most rabid American patriot could blame Russia’s FSB of taking advantage of that situation.

It’s alleged that the Secret Service found out about the suspicions in January 2017, but instead of launching an inquiry, it decided let the suspect go quietly a few months later “to contain any potential embarrassment.”

It’s possible they also wanted to give her a few extra months to make absolutely sure she’d stolen all the secrets available to her, although this is pure speculation on the part of your writer, but you wouldn’t be surprised either, would you?

The Guardian was told by the US Secret Service that it “recognizes that all Foreign Service Nationals (FSN) who provide services in furtherance of our mission, administrative or otherwise, can be subjected to foreign intelligence influence.”

That will be reassuring to Americans, because if the Guardian’s story is correct, it did appear that they hadn’t recognized the danger.

It’s reported that an intelligence source claimed “her frequent contacts with the FSB gave her away… numerous unsanctioned meetings and communications.” Gave her away after more than a decade… nice one Sherlock.

Is this "revelation" part of a development that will surprises us a a month's time? Was this lady a double agent employed to feed selective bullshit to the Russians? Had this Russian been suspected to be a double agent for a long time by the Russian GRU — a "fact" that would make the use of such agent useless... thus revealing her existence might give MORE VALUE TO the information she would have passed on to the Russians?

the fake syrischer zivilschutz...

Until July this year, the name of the group “White Helmets” was not very well known in Germany. Establishment politicians and the mainstream media much preferred using the term “Syrischer Zivilschutz” (“Syrian Civil Defence”). It sounds more decent, more serious – more official. A bit like “Red Cross” or like the well-respected German organization “Technisches Hilfswerk” (“Federal Agency for Technical Relief”) – a civil-protection organization controlled by the German government where 99 percent of its members are dedicated volunteers.

At the end of July 422 members of the organization managed to escape from Syria on quite a delicate route: They crossed the Syrian-Israeli border with the support of Israeli security forces. On July 22 the Twitter account of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) published the following statement: “Following an Israeli Government directive and at the request of the United States and additional European countries, the IDF recently completed a humanitarian effort to rescue members of a Syrian civil organization and their families.” Later the same IDF account empathised that this action should be considered as an “exceptional humanitarian gesture”. Again: The term “White Helmets” was not mentioned, instead the IDF spoke about a “Syrian civil organization”. The UK, Canada and Germany announced that they would accept members of that organisation as “refugees”.

It didn’t take long for German government representatives to discover the topic in order to present themselves as humanitarian pioneers, with the whole migration lobby clapping hands again. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said: “From the beginning of the conflict they have saved over 100 000 people.” He described it as an “act of humanity” to allow some of them to receive protection in Germany. And even German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer who was last lambasted for his criticism of unlimited migration, saw his chance to make a nice gesture. Seehofer said: “I have decided that Germany will take in eight members of the ‘White Helmets’ aid group and their families and grant them protection.”

Resistance against the migration of “White Helmets” to Germany is only visible within the political parties Die Linke (the Left) and the Eurosceptic AfD.

Heike Hänsel, member of the German Bundestag for Die Linke attacked Seehofer for his statement. “It is totally contradictory that minister Seehofer claims that he wants to fight terrorism, but on the other hand wants to accept those supporters of Islamist terrorist militias in Germany.

Markus Frohnmaier, an MP from the AfD party criticised the German government as well: “The mercenaries of the so-called White Helmets who are suspected of cooperation with terrorists in Syria and who are strongly financially supported by the UK are a security risk for Germany. Under no circumstances should they be accepted as migrants to Germany.” And Frohnmaier added: “The UK should take all of them!

According to the Russian media (far more reliable than the western media on such issue) the "White Helmets" have been responsible for the disinformation in regard to "Assad gasses his people" by staging fake (and sometimes less "fake") gassing events, to get the West to bomb Syria.

Presently, other terrorists groups are preparing some pockets of fake "gassing" when Idlib will be taken over by the Syrian army. These "gassing" would be seen by the West as "gassing beautiful babies" and, as John Bolton warned, would lead to the West bombing the Syrian forces... Ugly fake flag events...

it's a naughty world under the carpet...

An intelligence service given free rein to commit ‘serious crimes’ in its own country is an intelligence service that is the enemy of its people.

The quite astounding revelation that Britain’s domestic intelligence service, MI5, has enjoyed this very freedom for decades has only just been made public at a special tribunal in London, set up to investigate the country’s intelligence services at the behest of a coalition of human rights groups, alleging a pattern of illegality up to and including collusion in murder.

The hitherto MI5 covert policy sanctioning its agents to commit and/or solicit serious crimes, as and when adjudged provident, is known as the Third Direction. This codename has been crafted, it would appear, by someone with a penchant for all things James Bond within an agency whose average operative is more likely to be 5’6” and balding with a paunch and bad teeth than any kind of lantern-jawed 007.

The Pat Finucane Centre, one of the aforementioned human rights groups involved in bringing about this tribunal investigation (Investigatory Powers Tribunal, to give it its Sunday name) into the nefarious activities of Britain’s domestic intelligence agency, issued a damning statement in response to the further revelation that former Prime Minister David Cameron introduced oversight guidelines with regard to the MI5 covert third direction policy back in 2012.

Cameron’s decision to do so, the group claims, was far from nobly taken:

“It can be no coincidence that Prime Minister David Cameron issued new guidelines, however flawed, on oversight of MI5 just two weeks before publication of the De Silva report into the murder of Pat Finucane. The PM was clearly alive to the alarming evidence which was about to emerge of the involvement of the Security Service in the murder. To date no-one within a state agency has been held accountable. The latest revelations make the case for an independent inquiry all the more compelling.”

Pat Finucane, a Belfast Catholic, plied his trade as a human rights lawyer at a time when the right to be fully human was denied the minority Catholic community of the small and enduring outpost of British colonialism in the north east corner of Ireland, otherwise known as Northern Ireland. He was murdered by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989, back when the decades-long conflict euphemistically referred to as the Troubles still raged, claiming victims both innocent and not on all sides.

Unlike the vast majority of those killed and murdered in the course of this brutal conflict, Finucane’s murder sparked a long and hard fought struggle for justice by surviving family members, friends and campaigners. They allege – rather convincingly, it should be said – that it was carried out with the active collusion of MI5.

... and mad dog barked at the wrong tree...

Vladimir Putin’s simple-minded nature is to blame for the growing tensions between the US and Russia, Defense Secretary James Mattis has claimed, flexing his elite Marine Corps analytical skills.

The Pentagon chief on Sunday accused Russia’s president of being a “slow learner” whose irresponsible denseness is creating “animosity against his people” – incendiary comments that somehow clash with the view of his current boss, Donald Trump, as well as former US President Bill Clinton.

According to ‘Mad Dog’ Mattis, Putin’s alleged subpar intelligence has led to the deterioration of US-Russia relations, which have “worsened” since the start of the Trump administration.

The defense secretary added that the Russian leader is “someone that we simply cannot trust” because of his purported fondness for “ripping up” international agreements. Mattis might have missed a couple of things, though…

In two short years, his own US administration has unilaterally withdrawn from the Iran nuclear accord, shredded trade deals, pulled out of the Paris Agreement on climate change, and threatened to axe the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty.

To further prove his superior mental prowess, Mattis declared that Putin “tried to muck around” in November’s midterm elections – despite the fact that even the Russiagate disciples at the Daily Beast conceded there was no evidence to support such a claim.

Speculating about the soundness of Putin’s noodle is a time-honored Pentagon tradition. In February, 2015, it was revealed that a Pentagon study had concluded that the Russian president had Asperger’s syndrome.

The study’s lead researcher came to this conclusion based on “movement pattern analysis” – or in layman’s terms, watching videos of Putin, and then diagnosing his state of mind.

Though I am not a linguistic expert, the fact that Putin speaks several languages, and understands a few more, seems to be an indication of intelligence. And let's not forget Putin's "side-kick", Lavrov, the Russian Foreign Minister, who speaks about 8 languages and has a formidable intellect armed with a powerful memory.

Putin tries to make friend with the West, but the USA rejects this and yet Putin tries again and again. Is this a proof of being a "slow learner"?. I don't think so. It proves a certain tenacity and knowing that this is the RIGHT THING TO DO and that the imbeciles on the other side might see this as well.

I don't think a "slow learner" would have outlasted three US Presidents and their cabal of nasty warriors, Three French Presidents and their loony cabinets — and a couple of German Chancellors, without mentioning the four or five idiots at the helm of the UK, who still don't know whether they are coming or going.

As well, Putin's days at the KGB would have given him a solid background in the way the West deceitfully operated and one of best weapons against this has been to tell the truth.

adding dirty water to the sauce...

A US media company is doubling down on its report that sought to substantiate key allegations contained in the infamous Steele Dossier ‒ primarily that Trump’s personal lawyer traveled to Prague to meet with Russian officials ‒ but have still not provided any evidence to back up their claims.

The portion of the Steele Dossier in question revolves around Michael Cohen, formerly US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, and an alleged trip Cohen took to Prague in August 2016 to meet with Kremlin officials and coordinate Moscow's assistance to the Trump campaign. The dossier refers to Konstantin Kosachev, a Russian politician, as a "Duma figure." Kosachev has not been a member of the Duma, the lower house of Russia's parliament, since 2012.

The idea that the Kremlin would send Kosachev to serve as its architect of collusion with the Trump campaign is laughable, even to Mike Carpenter, "a former Russia specialist at the Pentagon." He told McClatchy for an article published on Thursday that doing so would be "as discreet as sending [Secretary of State] Mike Pompeo to meet with an informant on a sensitive issue."

And surely if Cohen did indeed travel to Prague, there would be records of it. Well, there aren't, but that doesn't mean that the story — the implications of which could be huge for Trump's presidency — doesn't meet the evidentiary threshold required to run a report in a major publication.

clockwork orange...

By Ken Livingstone...
Britain's conservative newspapers are obsessed by claims of Russian intelligence interfering in UK and US elections and Skripal allegations, but they have no interest in exposing the illegal activities of MI5 and MI6.

The Undercover Research Group worked with the Guardian newspaper to expose the fact that in the last 50 years 124 organisations have been infiltrated and spied on even though many of these were anti-war and anti-racist activists, environmentalists or animal rights groups – a total of 144 spies targeted them. Whilst I would expect our intelligence services to infiltrate terrorist groups planning to bomb and kill, it's hard to see what threat people campaigning for equal rights posed to Britain.

A total of 24 agents infiltrated the Socialist Workers Party, a small Trotskyist group with a couple of thousand members, even though London's police recorded that the SWP did "not have a recorded propensity for violence," the Guardian wrote.

It was also revealed that many of these undercover agents seduced women in the organisations and left them pregnant. The government has been forced to set up a public inquiry headed by a retired judge, Sir John Mitting, who will investigate the last fifty years of these activities. I have been approached by lawyers working on this inquiry who wanted to know if I was aware of the identity of any agents who had been spying on me. I'm really looking forward to going to the public hearings when they start.

The second biggest organisation targeted was the anti-Vietnam war campaign (which I was a part of) which had nine spies allocated to it between 1968 and 1972, even though all we ever did was go on demonstrations.

Altogether ten environmental campaigns and nine anti-racism organisations were spied on as well as twenty-two left-wing groups. Oddly, those campaigning for animal rights were also penetrated, along with the campaign against apartheid. Some trade unions had undercover agents working in them and even families who were campaigning against police misconduct towards their family.

Mitting's inquiry has revealed that the police have data on over a thousand political groups from those years.

I'm hoping that his inquiry will also reveal the full extent of racism in MI5, where senior officials did not believe that black people could be recruited to any high-level role in the organisation because they could not be trusted. This has been revealed by Dr Dan Lomas of the University of Salford, who has investigated MI5 files from the 1960s. Those files reveal opposition amongst Whitehall officials to the Labour government's plans to make it illegal to discriminate against workers on the grounds of their race.

Lomas reported that MI5 had a deep distrust of Jews and that in the 1950s discrimination against homosexuals and anyone with mental illness permeated MI5. As the Labour government in the 1960s continued to recruit black people they were not allowed access to secret documents and still today MI5 is being criticised because of the absence of racial minorities in top posts.

At a meeting at the Cabinet Office in 1967, MI5 warned of their concerns about members of the Windrush generation. Officials recorded that "coloured staff" had to be resident in Britain for ten years before they could be vetted. MI5 warned that "simply from the colour of a man's skin which gave him a chip on his shoulder," this posed a risk to Britain. But Lomas has made it clear that there are no MI5 files recording any instance of a black British person spying for our enemies.

When I became leader of the Greater London Council in 1981, I would finish a phone call at home and put the phone down, but if I picked it up to make another call I could hear a recording of my previous conversation being played back. So I assumed I was a target of MI5, but as I didn't have any secrets I wasn't too worried about it. I only really got interested in MI5 during the 1987 general election when I was standing as a candidate. The Tory press had reporters following me throughout the campaign and attending every public meeting I held. At a meeting in Kilburn just a week before polling day, the other speaker was Captain Fred Holroyd, an ex-intelligence officer who was a critic of the methods MI5 used against the IRA in Northern Ireland. The moment he started to express his doubts he was immediately accused of mental instability and dismissed as an intelligence officer.

I found Fred's speech amazing. Although he was right-wing, loyal to Britain and had been army-barmy as a child, he genuinely believed that MI5's dirty war against the IRA was increasing their support.

The audience was most shocked when he revealed that he worked in the same corridor in army intelligence in Northern Ireland as Captain Robert Nairac, who had illegally crossed the Irish border to allegedly assassinate a senior IRA member John Francis Green on January 10, 1975. On his return Nairac showed Fred photographs of Green's body but the gun he allegedly used to kill Green was also used on July 21 1975 when three members of Ireland's most popular pop group, the Miami Showband, were murdered.

Fred told the audience that Nairac had led a group of loyalist Ulster Volunteer Force members over the border, stopped the coach carrying the band and planted a bomb in the minibus. Because of a mistake the bomb went off killing two of the UVF members in his team. The other UVF members, along with two British soldiers, then shot the three band members in cold blood. Their plan, he claimed, was that this outrageous killing would wreck the ceasefire which the Labour government had negotiated with the IRA. Holroyd told us that this had been organised by rogue elements in MI5 who feared Wilson's government was pro-Soviet Union and wanted Wilson out of office.

According to Fred, this campaign was called Operation Clockwork Orange and these rogue officers in the army and MI5 had worked with Airey Neave, who was Thatcher's closest confidante and shadow Northern Ireland secretary. He was absolutely clear that Neave knew about these dirty war killings.

I didn't automatically believe that all this would be true, but I was shocked the next day to see that not a single journalist reported what he had said in their papers. This made me deeply suspicious and so I raised these issues in my maiden speech in the House of Commons shortly after the election. Two Tory MPs intervened to stop my speech which was the first time ever a member's maiden speech had been interrupted.

I put down dozens of questions to the government and challenged Margaret Thatcher directly during the Prime Minister's Question Time. Her response convinced me that the allegations were true, but the government consistently avoided answering or investigating my accusations. I also got help from Colin Wallace, another former intelligence officer in Northern Ireland, who was part of the Clockwork Orange project, but once he was considered unreliable he had been framed with a dead body put in the boot of his car and was convicted of manslaughter, although this decision would be overturned by the courts years later. The journalist Paul Foot was also investigating this and produced an excellent account in his book 'Who Framed Colin Wallace?'.

I continued to get two years of abuse from Tory MPs and Tory newspapers, until civil servants searching files at the public records office in Kew to find an answer to one of my questions, found the only Clockwork Orange file that had not been destroyed. Alan Clark, who was then a minister of defence, wrote in his diary about the panic in the ministry now that this had all come out. He said: "Two crises occupy the department… the first is something to do with the dirty tricks campaign… as far as I'm concerned dirty tricks are part and parcel of effective government".
