an apocalyptic canvass .....
from The Guardian ….. Iraq a 'work of art in progress' says US general after 49 die Julian Borger in Washington 'An American general in Baghdad called Iraq a "work of art" in progress yesterday in one of the most extraordinary attempts by the US military leadership to put a positive spin on the worsening violence. On a day in which 49 people were killed or found dead around the country, Major General William Caldwell, the chief military spokesman, argued that Iraq was in transition, a process that was "not always a pleasant thing to watch. "Every great work of art goes through messy phases while it is in transition. A lump of clay can become a sculpture. Blobs of paint become paintings which inspire." Maj Gen Caldwell told journalists in Baghdad's fortified green zone. "The final test of our efforts will not be the isolated incidents that you report daily, but the country that the Iraqis build." Perceptions of how the war is going have become a central factor in next Tuesday's congressional elections, which could determine President George Bush's freedom of manoeuvre in his last two years in office. Maj Gen Caldwell was speaking after a series of public disagreements between Washington and the Iraqi prime minister, Nuri al-Maliki, over proposed benchmarks for his government's performance, and over a recent US raid on a Shia district of Baghdad.’

This master-piss above by a crummy painter, George Dubya Bushit... Hitler was another infamous painter too...
I drew this cartoon two and half years ago (April 2004) ... and this frightens me... because it reminds me that things were not pretty either then. Now, new generals are spruiking the same BS than was spruiked then...
My assessment of the situation was and still is that Bush wanted Iraqi oil, Saddam was selling to the Russians and the Europeans in Euros. Unacceptable money!. In order to make the little foray in Iraq pay, the US troops have to stay at least 20 more years in Iraq, in one form or another. Permanent bases for US armies are being built, the US embassy is about three times the size of any US embassy in the rest of the world... and Embassy staff are usually between 60 to 90 per cent spies... Please forget the business of democracy and the like... It would be good if it did happen but it won't... It can't, and Bushit knew that... and knows that... but spruik to the contrary.
So, no matter how well or not the Iraqi government does to manage the insurgency problem, the US will still be in Iraq in 2026... unless they get kicked out before hand, after bloody battles... But the prize is too good... The US want that oil at any price of lives and will fight tooth and nail to keep it... Using argument linked to morality and fear to massage our worries about it...
Something might crack before hand... The Democrats might dismantle the heist... I have the feeling that the Republicans, a bunch of loonies giving the glorious word "republic" a bad name, have not had time to secure all bases yet... We shall see... 2026... may be 2027... and that would be exactly 100 years since the Brits have been expelled from there too...
giving art a bad name .....
Yes Gus …. It reminds me of your Guernica cartoon.
Obviously the general is a graduate of the bushit school of spin & no doubt believes that his Bush, Rumsfeld & co – far from being just good old fashioned war criminals – must be modern amerikan Rembrandts.
Just goes to prove that enough lipstick can pretty-up the ugliest of pigs …. & rodents.
