the turd-blossom syndrome .....‘This is the great war of our times, It is going to take 40 years’. Bush said in forty years the world would know if the war on terrorism & conflicts in Iraq & Afghanistan, had reduced extremism, helped moderates & promoted democracy. Bush admits to Engel that going to war was a decision based on his personal instinct & not on any long-range strategy for the Mideast: ‘I know people are saying we should have left things the way they were, but I changed after 9/11. I had to act. I don’t care if it created more enemies. I had to act.’ Bush: We’ll Be In Iraq For 40 Years meanwhile ….. The war in Afghanistan is likely to last at least another decade and 10,000 more foreign troops are needed there now, Australian military and political leaders said Wednesday. I would say it’s an endeavour that will last at least 10 years," the head of the defence force, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston told a parliamentary committee. Taliban rebels still control large parts of the southern Uruzgan province where most of Australia’s 1,000 troops are deployed, Houston said, despite some successes by special forces units. Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon, meanwhile, said at least 10,000 more troops were needed to fight the rebellion but they were unlikely to be provided by European nations. About 70,000 troops provided by the United States and NATO countries are helping Afghan forces against the Taliban, who were ousted in a US-led invasion in 2001. "I am of the view that we need at the very least an additional 10,000 troops in Afghanistan and to be frank I don’t see any Europeans who look likely to put up substantial numbers any time soon." Senate Panel Accuses Bush of Iraq Exaggerations
By SCOTT SHANE
Published: June 5, 2008
WASHINGTON — In a report long delayed by partisan squabbling, the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday accused President Bush and Vice President Cheney of taking the country to war in Iraq by exaggerating evidence of links between Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda in the emotional aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
“The president and his advisers undertook a relentless public campaign in the aftermath of the attacks to use the war against Al Qaeda as a justification for overthrowing Saddam Hussein,” Sen. John D. Rockefeller IV, the committee’s Democratic chairman, said in a statement accompanying the 171-page report.
The committee’s report cited some instances in which public statements by senior administration officials were not supported by the intelligence available at the time, such as suggestions that Saddam Hussein’s Iraq and Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda were operating in a kind of partnership, that the Baghdad regime had provided the terrorist network with weapons training, and that one of the Sept. 11 hijackers had met an Iraqi intelligence operative in Prague in 2001.
But the report found that on several key issues, including Iraq’s alleged nuclear, biological and chemical weapons programs, public statements from Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney and other top officials before the war were generally “substantiated” by the best estimates of the intelligence agencies, though the statements did not always reflect the agencies’ uncertainty about the evidence. All the weapons claims were disproved after invading troops found no unconventional arsenal and little effort to build one.

Gus: "the best estimates of the intelligence agencies" were fabrications. The dossiers were sexed-up for a performance with an inflatable fat girl rubber doll. As mentioned on this site many times, the CIA, MI6 and the Pentagon had their little secret disinformation bureaus employed to spread the false information that their other departments would collect as "evidence". Many of these "estimates" could not be substantiated by proper "intelligence". Ahmed Challabi was part of this funnelling and was himself paid US$350,000 a month to do the gleaning of "defectors" from Iraq that would spread the mustard and were paid to do so. Most of these shadowy characters have never been made public. They were paid to bullshit and dance the tune required by the US president. A few were fed to the media via devious means, to put jam on the bread, then evaporated... Saddam was bullshitting too for a while but then he delivered his 10,000 pages dossiers that catalogued the true state of affairs that negated UN resolution 1441. The Yanks did not like it and crossed out a lot of names out of the dossiers to protect the former suppliers of WMDs to Saddam. Saddam had DESTROYED THE WMDs. Thus Hans Blix could not find any. But the US bullshitted about the WMDs being moved around. As if one would attact an army with weapons of mass destructions located in unknown places... The US generals would have baulked at attacking Saddam under these circumstances. THE US ARMY GENERALS HAD TO KNOW SADDAM DID NOT HAVE WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. The US, the UK and the Australian government knew that fact too. THEY LIED.
The Europeans (did not share with the Poms) had similar "intelligence" and they were intelligent enough to know the best estimates of the US intelligence agencies was crap. They also had people on the ground working with Saddam passing the reality of the cheese.
The truth is that Bushit wanted the oil. On top of that, the Ruskies and the Europeans controlled the oil in Iraq and were trading in Euros. Bushit (Cheney) saw red. With the price of oil rising despite an illusionary yo-yo-ing, the oil in Iraq is worth now more than 25,000 trillion dollars to the US economy over the next 40 years. Would not you euthanize your mother for that?
The Senate Panel Accusing Bush of Iraq Exaggerations??? Whitewash!!! The Prez LIED and made a whole lot of people lie to suit his lies. Some people would argue that too many people would have to be involved for the lies to work... Well the lies did not fully work, really. But Bushit went ahead and rolled Saddam anyway. The porkyists embedded with the con had the "journalistic" time of their lives... till things started not to be so rosy. WHITEWASH...
