Get a load of who won – and presented – a new honor that’s modestly being compared to the Nobel Peace Prize.

If you haven’t heard of the World Law Foundation non-profit organization, you could be forgiven. But despite only existing since 2019, it has already created an award described by the Western press as nothing less than the “judicial equivalent” of the world’s top award for promoting peace.

US officials have spent nearly a week touting a new $400 million weapons package for Kiev to assist in NATO’s ongoing proxy war against Russia, with the weapons, taken directly from the Pentagon’s own stocks, including NASAMS, Stinger and Patriot air defense missiles, Stryker armored vehicles, TOW and Javelin anti-tank missiles, howitzer ammo, HIMARS rockets and 28 million rounds of small arms ammunition.

The European Commission does not have money to subsidize Ukrainian grain exports, while some members of the EU oppose the idea anyway, Reuters reported on Thursday.

Last year, Brussels removed tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian products to support the country in its fight against Russia. In July 2022, Russia agreed to offer safety guarantees to commercial ships carrying Ukrainian grain via the Black Sea. The deal collapsed earlier this month, as Moscow did not get promised relief on sanctions on its own food and fertilizer trade.

Kiev is looking for ways to compensate for the loss of Black Sea route and wants the EU to pay for it. In a letter to EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis last week, the Ukrainian government requested financial aid to cover some of the transport costs via so-called ‘Solidarity Lanes’, which ship Ukrainian products via the EU, Reuters said.

The US special counsel prosecuting Donald Trump for alleged mishandling of classified documents has accused the former president of plotting to delete potentially incriminating security camera footage at his Florida resort Mar-a-Lago. Jack Smith indicted another one of Trump’s employees for alleged involvement in covering up possible evidence in the case.

The new charges, revealed on Thursday in an updated grand jury indictment, relate to an alleged scheme by Trump and two aides – a previously indicted staffer and a maintenance supervisor at Mar-a-Lago – to delete surveillance footage that might show his employees moving boxes of documents before a possible FBI search.

The commissioning of the new USS Canberra in Sydney amid accompanying fanfare and blanket Australian media coverage provided ample testimony to the extent that we are increasingly being taken for granted by the US civil and military leadership. 

During a speech on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden seemed to claim that his administration had cured cancer.

“I said I’d cure cancer. They looked at me like, ‘Why cancer’? Because no one thinks we can. That’s why. And we can. We ended cancer as we know it,” Biden said during a speech in the East Room of the White House.

Biden was scheduled to speak about expanding Americans’ access to mental health care. After the cancer remark, he continued to talk about healthcare for military veterans, which is run by the federal government. 

The strange claim was quickly noticed by Republicans, who have often accused the 80-year-old Democrat of behaving as if afflicted by dementia. 

“Biden just told everyone that he cured cancer. I feel like that would have at least gotten a press release,” quipped Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado.

From the start of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, thousands of foreign mercenaries have joined Ukraine’s Armed Forces. They came to Ukraine from all over the world, but mostly from Poland, the US, and Canada. Recently, however, it seems that their interest in fighting for Kiev has significantly faded. This is evident both from estimates provided by the Russian Ministry of Defense and from foreign media reports. 

American investment banking giant Goldman Sachs has warned that the global oil market will see record-high demand, large deficits, and higher crude prices in the near term, due to low rig count in the US and uncertainty about long-run oil demand.

Speaking to CNBC’s news show “Squawk Box Asia” on Monday, Goldman’s head of oil research Daan Struyven said that the bank expected “pretty sizable deficits” in the second half of this year as demand would reach “an all-time high.”

The investment bank forecasts that Brent crude, a major benchmark, will rise from the current level of just above $80 per barrel to $86 per barrel by year-end, he added.

In a recent exchange with Putin, the Belarusian President, Lukashenko, humorously mentioned the intention of Wagner's forces to attack Poland, a NATO member country. Such an offensive could trigger NATO's Article 5, prompting every member to come to the defense of Poland. Lukashenko suggests that Wagner has a grudge against Rzeszow, a Polish city that helped Ukrainian forces by supplying them with military equipment.

Lukashenko claims to keep Wagner's forces in central Belarus in order to concentrate them on training the Belarusian army and to avoid conflicts with Poland. However, Western intelligence detected a large buildup of Wagner bases near the Polish border, when joint military exercises were planned.
