There is no solid definition of Swiss neutrality in the Swiss Federal Constitution. The neutrality initiative demands the Federal Council to actively pursue its peace function. Our country would thereby regain scope. The 2022 launched neutrality initiative has been achieved. On 11 April the initiative committee submitted 133,000 signatures for the initiative. This sets the course for a referendum on a definition of neutrality in the Swiss constitution.

China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning has agreed to attend next month’s Ukrainian peace conference in Switzerland with one proviso, that Russia be invited. Mao said that Beijing supports the “timely convening of an international peace conference that is recognized by both the Russian and Ukrainian sides.”

That sounds reasonable, after all, one would expect that peace negotiations would include the representatives of the warring parties. But that is not the case here. And while more than 90 countries have confirmed that they will attend the upcoming meetings, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has excluded the one nation whose presence might make a difference. A photograph has been discovered of the then Prince Charles receiving an award from a former member of the Waffen-SS.

Charles was given an honorary law degree during a ceremony at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada in 1983. 

In his acceptance speech, Charles praised those who had “sacrificed their lives 40 years ago” in the fight against Adolf Hitler.

Yet the award was conferred on him by a Nazi collaborator – the university’s chancellor Peter Savaryn.

The recent startling advance of Russian forces in northeastern Ukraine has dampened quite a bit of the enthusiasm in the pro-Kiev camp following passage in the US Congress of the supplemental aid bill in April. Controversial American talking head Tucker Carlson is heading to Australia after a surprise invite from a high-profile local figure.

Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News host turned divisive freelance journalist, will headline a series of ‘freedom conferences’, Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer has announced.

Carlson will appear at events in Cairns, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne between June and July this year.

In a statement issued by Palmer’s United Australia Party on Monday, the businessman said the tour is aimed at “waking up Australia and encouraging people to join the fight to protect the future for themselves and their families”.

The time has come to push Moscow to end its war on Ukraine — by supplying Kyiv with the right weapons fast, removing boneheaded restrictions on their use and making clear that Russia simply can’t win.

The rather timid headline for a recent aggressive story in the New York Times (NYT) introduced a detailed investigation by that newspaper of how the governance of Israel has been captured by brutalised backers of apartheid.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak last week found a new and ridiculous way to announce a national election by standing in front of No.10 Downing St in drenching rain, without an umbrella.

But the campaign quickly grew more serious. Sunak’s first election promise was that his government would reinstate compulsory national service for all 18-year-olds. This is a bold idea for an unpopular government to stake its future on. Did Sunak do this because of the seriousness of the military threats to Britain or because of the desperation of the British Tory party to win votes?
