President Donald Trump has said that British troops “can take care of themselves” when asked whether the US military would support them if the UK deploys forces to Ukraine as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Trump at the White House on Thursday, where they discussed a plan to reach what he called a “peace that is tough and fair.”

“I’m working closely with other European leaders on this, and I’m clear that the UK is ready to put boots on the ground and planes in the air to support a deal, working together with our allies, because that is the only way that peace will last,” Starmer told reporters after the meeting.

Donald Trump may have only recently re-entered the Oval Office, but his radical anti-climate ideas are on the march across the globe.

A CORRECTIV investigation can reveal that politicians, think tanks, and economists are now spreading Trump’s ideologies in Germany – right up to the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its leader Friedrich Merz, the front-runner in the race to be Germany’s next leader, with federal elections due to take place on 23 February.

The Washington Post is revamping its opinion section to focus on American values, with an emphasis on “personal liberties” and “free markets,” the newspaper’s owner, Jeff Bezos, announced in an email to staff on Wednesday. The move has led to the resignation of opinion editor David Shipley and sparked debate among journalists and readers.

I read the definition of antisemitism adopted by Australian universities and my first thought was “we need a list”, not of what is considered antisemitic, but of what is not considered antisemetic. Now it would be helpful to have a prescriptive list of what one can say about Israel without being smeared as an antisemite.

“We have decided to offer Ukraine NATO membership. But it is also clear that we must all agree on it if it is to happen,” said Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen following the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at NATO headquarters in Brussels on February 13.

Poulsen must have referred to the previous U.S. president’s wish for Ukraine to be in NATO, because the new president’s defense minister, Pete Hegseth, said the opposite following Donald Trump’s 90-minute telephone talk with Vladimir Putin: No NATO for Ukraine, and give up territory, meaning Donbas and Crimea, which joined the Russian Federation by referendum.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has announced plans to begin releasing documents related to Jeffrey Epstein’s case, including the deceased sex trafficker’s list of contacts, alleged clients, and flight logs to his private island, “hopefully” as early as Thursday.

Epstein, a financier who mingled with the rich and famous for years, allegedly introduced numerous young women – some of whom were underage – to his powerful acquaintances and flew them to his private Caribbean island aboard his jet, dubbed the “Lolita Express.” He was arrested in 2019 and died in his Manhattan jail cell later that year, with his death officially ruled a suicide.

Germany's likely next chancellor Friedrich Merz made a surprise visit to Paris to meet French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that a group of European leaders will head to London Sunday to discuss joint plans on defense and security.

Tusk said that the European Commission is preparing a defense package, details of which will be announced at the special summit of European Union leaders scheduled for March 6.

Keir Starmer has announced that Britain will “fight for peace in Europe” with a generational increase in defence spending paid for by slashing the foreign aid budget.

The move, just two days before the prime minister is due to meet Donald Trump, raised immediate concerns that he was pandering to the US president, and fury from aid groups that say it could cost lives in countries that rely on UK support.

In a surprise announcement, Starmer announced the biggest increase in defence spending since the end of the cold war, with the budget rising to 2.5% of GDP by 2027 – three years earlier than planned – and an ambition to reach 3%.

The recent United Nations vote to condemn Russia for the war in Ukraine saw unlikely allies in Russia and the United States, which both voted against the resolution. On this episode of the ScheerPost podcast, Ray McGovern joins host Robert Scheer to discuss what this vote means and how a potential new peace with Russia is reminiscent of the days of John F. Kennedy and the Soviet Union. Ray pays tribute to Aaron Bushnell, the Air Force serviceman who set himself on fire in protest of the genocide in Gaza and points out how Trump’s peace in Europe sets up a glaring contradiction for his attitude in the Middle East.
